Transcripts
so what is the science behind goal
setting and thriving especially in such
a challenging and changing Marketplace
economy and time in the world so this
couldn't actually be more timely because
I'm currently teaching a DBA class in
our Doctorate of Business Administration
program number one ranked by Forbes and
it's called high performance leadership
and one of the elements we cover is the
science the Neuroscience specifically
the Neuroscience behind goal setting and
I get the privilege of sharing my Thrive
Journal which is the proprietary system
I created based on the science of the
mind and how to get change and I thought
about this in terms of how important it
really is because for years we had
science that told us that you know you
really can't change patterns or beliefs
or you can't change your personality by
the way you can your personality is a
function of your experiences it can be
very young can even be generational
experiences right there's so much data
and science out there now about
how even in utero even through
generations like they did studies on
Holocaust Survivors and the children of
the Holocaust Survivors and how there's
markers on their DNA on their mnra of
Trauma from that time in fact the book
that I was thinking about is by Mark
wulin it says it didn't start with you
but anyway I share all that because now
the science has shown we actually can
change behaviors we can change thought
patterns we can change outcomes we don't
necessarily give get rid of the old
patterns we overwrite the belief systems
and we develop new neural Pathways
because our thoughts our emotions our
reactions you know the belief systems
that we have about ourselves our lives
other people our potential those are all
automatic repetitive beliefs that can be
changed so if they're working for us
great if they're not we can change them
there was a study done I think it was at
a Harvard uh I forget the name of the
study and I want I want to mention it
but it said something like we have
60,000 thoughts in a day so about 60,000
thoughts and they probably followed
someone around or they put electroids on
their brain and they measured how many
times the brain was activated in a
thought and of those thoughts 90% are
repetitive thoughts that are coming from
the more autonomic part of the brain so
the lyic system the more subconscious
habit habitual autonomic system one as
Daniel Conan and thinking fast and slow
says so knowing that and knowing the
importance of making sure that those
repetitive thoughts and patterns are
moving Us in the direction of where we
want to go there is such science behind
how to get there the problem is most of
the time we don't actually use those
systems we're so focused on doing and
action and you know accomplishing goals
and the Tactical strategies without
understanding the science of the mind so
that is where Thrive comes in and why
it's so important by the way all
proceeds from the Thrive Journal if you
buy the thrive Drive journal on Amazon
go to Walsh college so proud to say that
but I share that so you know I'm not
asking you to invest in this for me I'm
asking you to invest in this for you and
any benefit goes to support our
incredible teaching and learning Mission
at Walsh college but why Thrive works
and the importance of this framework is
Thrive as an acronym for six propulsion
systems of the autonomic subconscious
mind to get neurological change timing
handwriting repetition
imagination visualization and emotion
any one of these can work to get change
in the autonomic part of the brain when
you combine all of them especially the
timing portal that we talk about in the
journal by the way it's a very brief
Journal we get right in and we get right
out and most of the pages are the actual
journaling that you do this is what
drives change so I want to challenge you
all today this video is a little
different than a lot of my Monday
motivation videos because it is so
important I see this with my class I see
it all the time with my colleagues you
know as Leaders as entrepreneurs you're
probably thinking gosh a lot of the
stuff I deal with at my company is
really interpersonal communication
interpersonal emotions it's the triggers
we have I know for me when I hit a
hurdle when I hit a barrier in my job it
has very little to do with Talent
ability or capability why because I have
the skills or I know people that do it
has to do with with my own self
leadership and my emotions and my
beliefs and my triggers of is it am I
going to have enough time am I going to
do this well uh oh what if this happens
our brains are wired to Keep Us Alive
not to see us healthy and Thrive that's
what we have to do and that's why I
created this journal because I did a
focus group of 17 participants over the
course of three weeks and we measured
statistical significant change against
their Locust of control I won't get into
this too much detail I probably lost
some of you already because I'm getting
too much academic and science but this
is why this is important so you know
this is not woo woo this is based in
real science Neuroscience in fact in my
book Locus which kind of accompanies the
journal but you can do the journal
without Locus but I'd recommend reading
this we talk through the science behind
it and I give you resources on the
studies so why is this important if
you've been seeing the same patterns
over and over again in your life in your
business with the results in your
business right I was just talking to a
company the other day and they were
frustrated they were having the same
problems with their team members and
they were like how do we get them too
and I said wait a second how do you
shift how you're hiring and mentoring
not so much focusing on the outcome but
the input right so that's why these
books this book is so important
especially this framework so there is a
scientific way you can change the belief
systems and the patterns of your life so
if you have a belief system like well
that won't happen for me my company will
never hit this amount I could never have
this role because I'm fill in the blank
right those are belief systems that we
can change and when we change we alter
the neural Pathways of our brain and
when we alter the neural Pathways in our
brain then we produce different results
because our brains are incredible
pattern matching machines and we can
seek out what is in harmony with our
beliefs the dominant beliefs the
subconscious beliefs this is why when
you go to buy a new car and you're aware
of it and all of a sudden you see new
car everywhere and it's like everybody's
got my car color make model everything
it didn't just happen that way your
brain has now hyper attuned to it and
that's what we're doing in the Thrive
framework we want you to hyper attune
your brain to the goals the standards
the results the outcomes that you want
by your standards by your definitions
and what works for you so here's my
challenge those of you that go on Amazon
and I'll put a link and you purchase a
copy of the Thrive Journal you can buy
as as many as you want they make great
gifts for folks I mean this is a great
way to give somebody a gift that pours
into them and improves their life right
it's just such a great gift because it's
like paying it forward so many times
ahead but if you get a Thrive Journal
send me a message let me know you
purchased it I will invite you to an
invite only special invitation Zoom
Meetup where we will meet we'll talk
through it we'll have other people on
there as well so it won't just be you
and I it'll be us in a group of people
that bought the Thrive journal and we'll
talk through specifically the Thrive
elements I will help you set your goals
I will help you apply those Frameworks
give you kind of a crash course and the
science behind it and pour into you
because I truly want to see you achieve
this change and for those folks that are
high performers that are success-driven
individuals you will take advantage of
this offer I know it because you see it
in front of you and you're like this is
what I've been waiting for so go ahead
secure your copy of the Thrive Journal
go ahead buy it it'll ship to you and
then send me a message and then I will
set up a zoom group probably like in the
next month we'll give people a couple
weeks to do this and I'll set it up in
the next month so where are we now April
we'll do it in May we'll get together
and we will Thrive so remember you can
change your beliefs you can change the
outcomes in your life and you can change
the results and there is science behind
goal setting and life change
