🌸 The Fragrance of Jannah: A Powerful Evocation

This paragraph discusses the significance of smell in Jannah, drawing on scientific and spiritual insights. Smell, being one of the most powerful senses, evokes memories and stirs emotions. In Jannah, the fragrance is ever-present and holds deep spiritual meaning, as highlighted in the Qur'an and Sunnah. Examples include Prophet Ya'qub's experience with Yusuf's scent and Anas ibn Nadr's claim of smelling the sweetness of Jannah during the Battle of Uhud. Believers are welcomed with gentle, fragrant breezes when their souls leave this world, and the last person to enter Jannah will sense its scent from afar. The oppressive will never smell Jannah, whereas the righteous, like the hairdresser of Firawn’s daughter, are honored with beautiful fragrances even after death.

05:01

🌤️ The Pleasant Atmosphere and Timeless Light of Jannah

The second paragraph details the perfect atmosphere in Jannah, from the temperature to the constant fragrance of musk. Even everyday occurrences like burping emit pleasant scents, and incense of aloe wood enhances the fragrance. The weather is always serene, with rain that comforts rather than disrupts. In Jannah, clouds rain whatever the inhabitants desire, and a wind spreads musk on all sides. The light in Jannah is eternal, with no sun or moon, and the difference between night and day is only marked by the opening or closing of curtains. Light emanates from Allah’s Throne, illuminating Jannah perpetually, and people do not sleep, as sleep is unnecessary in this eternal state of rest and refreshment.

💡Perfume of the Hairdresser of Firawn’s Daughter

The perfume of the hairdresser of Firawn's (Pharaoh's) daughter is mentioned as a profound example of sacrifice and faith. Highlights

The fragrance of Jannah is spoken about in the Qur'an and Sunnah because smell evokes both memory of the past and excitement about the future.

The incense burners of Paradise will perpetually burn aloe wood, enhancing the fragrance of Jannah.

The rainfall in Jannah will serenade the people and never be stormy, making the weather in Paradise always pleasant and perfect.

A cloud will come over the people in Paradise, and they can ask it to rain whatever they desire, adding to the endless joy and satisfaction.

There is no night or day in Paradise; the people know the time by the opening and closing of curtains or screens.

The ground of Jannah is described as white marble of silver, reflecting the purity and beauty of Paradise.

The people of Jannah do not sleep because sleep is the brother of death, and there is no need for rest or escape in Paradise.

Transcripts

play00:00

- So now you walk out of your new home,

play00:02

and you have your new Jannah body,

play00:05

and you start to observe the ambience,

play00:07

and the environment of Jannah.

play00:09

And the first thing

play00:10

you might wonder is, what is that smell?

play00:13

You see scientifically,

play00:14

smell has the power to evoke

play00:16

even more than what we see and what we taste.

play00:19

It's the most overwhelming of our senses

play00:21

that Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la has given to us.

play00:23

So, think about what is it like

play00:25

to breathe the air of Jannah?

play00:27

And that's why the fragrance of Jannah

play00:29

is spoken about so much in the Qur'an and Sunnah.

play00:33

Because smell actually has the power to do two things:

play00:36

it evokes both memory of the past,

play00:38

and excitement about the future.

play00:53

Think of the Prophet Ya'qub 'Alayhi Salaam, Jacob,

play00:56

when he was smelling Yusuf 'Alayhi Salaam from afar,

play01:00

and how much comfort the fragrance

play01:02

of his shirt brought to him.

play01:04

Life had no taste to Ya'qub

play01:06

without the smell of Yusuf 'Alayhi Salaam

play01:09

And think of Anas ibn Nadr,

play01:10

the uncle of Anas ibn Malik,

play01:12

may Allah be pleased with them.

play01:13

As he was rushing towards Uhud,

play01:15

when everybody else was running away.

play01:18

And he was saying, "Ini ajidu reeh Al Jannah"

play01:21

"I can smell the sweetness of Jannah behind Uhud".

play01:25

As if to say,

play01:26

that nothing in this life brought any joy

play01:30

after the scent of Jannah was smelled by him.

play01:33

And how are the believers' souls taken in this life?

play01:35

What are they welcomed with?

play01:37

The Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam says,

play01:39

"Ba'atha Allahu alayhim reehan tayiba"

play01:42

that Allah sends upon them gentle, beautiful breezes.

play01:46

And every single Muslim that is left on this Earth,

play01:50

will encounter it and die peacefully,

play01:53

until Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play01:54

resurrects their souls once again.

play01:56

So, when you enter into Jannah,

play01:58

it is all around filled with this amazing fragrance

play02:01

which the believers will be able to enjoy,

play02:04

even before they enter.

play02:05

In the famous Hadith of the last man to enter Paradise,

play02:08

the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said,

play02:10

that this man could smell it from outside of its gates

play02:13

and it just made him long for Jannah that much more.

play02:16

And the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said,

play02:18

that the smell of Jannah could reach you

play02:20

from a distance of more than a hundred years.

play02:23

Think about that in terms of worldly distance.

play02:25

The context of the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam

play02:27

saying that is when he said whoever kills a man

play02:30

from the people of Dhimmah,

play02:32

which are non-Muslims that live

play02:34

under Muslim protection,

play02:35

that tyrant will not smell Paradise

play02:38

even though its smell could reach you,

play02:41

from the distance of a hundred years.

play02:43

So, the oppressor will never smell Jannah.

play02:45

But SubhanAllah the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam

play02:47

was taken aback by the smell of someone's perfume,

play02:51

during the night of Al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj.

play02:53

And who was it?

play02:54

Jibreel 'Alayhi Salaam says

play02:56

to the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam when he asks,

play02:57

"What is that smell, that beautiful smell?"

play03:00

He says, it's the perfume,

play03:01

of the hairdresser,

play03:03

of the daughter of firawn.

play03:05

The perfume of the hairdresser,

play03:06

of the daughter of firawn.

play03:08

Of all people, why her?

play03:09

It seems kind of random, right?

play03:11

But this was a young woman,

play03:13

who was combing the hair of the daughter of firawn,

play03:16

and when she dropped it she said, "Bismillah."

play03:18

In the name of Allah.

play03:20

And just for that,

play03:21

Firawn throws her and her babies,

play03:24

into the bottom of a burning ditch.

play03:26

Only to have the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam

play03:28

ask Jibreel 'Alayhi Salaam about her amazing fragrance

play03:31

in the highest heaven.

play03:33

So, while the perfume of the oppressed is overwhelming,

play03:36

the oppressors like firawn,

play03:38

will never even smell Jannah.

play03:40

And there's a powerful connection there.

play03:42

So, when do you notice the smell?

play03:44

Now, every footstep in Jannah provokes a new smell of musk.

play03:48

So, as you walk out of your door,

play03:50

you smell it here,

play03:51

you smell it there.

play03:52

The Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said

play03:53

the burps of the people, in Jannah, are musk.

play03:57

And the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said

play03:58

that the incense burners of the people of Paradise

play04:00

will be aloe wood.

play04:01

And that's going to be burned perpetually,

play04:04

and continue to increase the good smell of Paradise.

play04:07

As for the temperature, it is always pleasant and perfect.

play04:11

The rainfall is never stormy,

play04:13

and it's only there to serenade the people of Paradise.

play04:17

You never have to stay indoors,

play04:18

like think if you go to a vacation resort

play04:20

and you have to constantly monitor the weather.

play04:22

You don't have to stay indoors in Jannah

play04:24

at any point because the weather is bad.

play04:26

In fact, the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said,

play04:28

that while we are in Paradise,

play04:30

a cloud will come over us having that which

play04:33

no eye has ever seen

play04:35

and no ear has ever heard of.

play04:37

And the people will say to the cloud,

play04:39

"Amtiri alayna"

play04:41

"Rain upon us!"

play04:42

And the cloud will actually respond and say,

play04:44

"Ma turidoona an umtirakum"

play04:46

"What would you like me to rain upon you?"

play04:48

And the Profit SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said,

play04:50

"It will then rain whatever you wish upon you

play04:53

and however much you desire".

play04:55

Then Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la will send a harmless wind,

play04:58

and it will spread heaps of musk

play05:00

on their right and on their left.

play05:02

And then it will come on their faces,

play05:04

and their hair, and their garments,

play05:06

and it will please them

play05:07

in ways that they continue to increase in beauty.

play05:11

Now, is this in the daytime or the nighttime?

play05:14

Is there even a sun and a moon in Jannah?

play05:16

Al Imam Qurtubi said,

play05:17

"The scholar said there is no night and day in Paradise;

play05:20

rather, they will be an everlasting eternal light.

play05:24

And the only way they know that nighttime has come

play05:28

is because the curtains or the screens will be put up,

play05:30

and the doors will be closed.

play05:32

And they will know when daytime comes

play05:34

because the curtains and the screens will be taken down,

play05:37

and the doors will be opened".

play05:39

It's also narrated that the people of Jannah

play05:41

will wear one gown in the morning

play05:43

and another in the evening.

play05:45

So, you have nighttime and daytime colors

play05:48

but it's all the same in Jannah.

play05:49

"La yarona fi-ha shamsan"

play05:52

"And no sun is ever seen".

play05:54

Now, Imam Al-Samaak Rahimahullah

play05:56

He said that I met Abdullah Ibn Abbas,

play05:57

radiAllahu Anhu in Medina.

play05:59

And that was after he became blind.

play06:01

So, it was when he was very old. And I said to him,

play06:04

"What is the ground of Paradise like?"

play06:06

He said, "It is white marble of silver

play06:09

as though it is a mirror".

play06:10

And he said, "I asked him,

play06:12

and what is the light of Paradise?"

play06:14

And Ibn Abbas radiAllahu Anhuma, said,

play06:16

"Have you ever seen the light right before sunrise?

play06:20

Its light will be like that

play06:21

but there's no sun and there's no cold".

play06:24

Now where's that light coming from in Jannah?

play06:27

Imam Ibn Taymiyah Rahimahullah says,

play06:28

"Wal Jannah-tu laysa fiha shamsun wa-la qamarun

play06:31

wa-la laylun wa-la nahar"

play06:32

In Jannah there's no night, there's no day,

play06:34

there's no sun, no moon.

play06:36

But morning and evening will be known

play06:38

by a light appearing from where?

play06:41

From the Throne of Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la.

play06:43

So, the light is shining

play06:45

from Allah's Throne.

play06:46

And that light is illuminating all of Paradise from above.

play06:50

And how beautiful is that light?

play06:52

So, if the lights stay on,

play06:54

when do we get to sleep in Jannah?

play06:55

Because I'm sure Jannah is sleep for some people.

play06:58

And the question is,

play06:59

"Why would you want to sleep in Jannah?"

play07:00

The Prophets SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam was asked,

play07:02

"Do the people of Jannah ever sleep?"

play07:04

And he said,

play07:05

"Al-Nawmu akhul mawt wa ahlul Jannati la yanamun"

play07:08

that sleep is the brother of death,

play07:11

and the people of Jannah do not die.

play07:13

Now, you may want to relax a bit in Paradise,

play07:16

but why would you want to sleep?

play07:18

And if you think about sleep in this life,

play07:20

it really is a mercy to us, so that we can rest.

play07:23

And sometimes maybe even escape our troubles

play07:26

or at least refresh ourselves a bit.

play07:28

But what is there to escape from in Jannah?

play07:31

And what do you need to refresh from?

play07:33

Your body, your mind, and your soul

play07:35

are perpetually refreshed.

play07:37

Now, another element of this is that in this life

play07:41

you fought your sleep and you fought the comfort of your bed

play07:45

seeking the reward from Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play07:48

and the coolness of Jannah.

play07:50

And when you think about, in this life

play07:52

when you finish a long day of work,

play07:54

your body is too exhausted

play07:56

to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

play07:58

But once you get to Jannah,

play08:00

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la is not just giving you

play08:02

the reward, but he's giving you the capacity to enjoy it

play08:06

in a way that you never could have in this life.
