Transcripts
Now you can go for a walk and stare at your phone and see absolutely nothing don't stare at your
[ __ ] phone look around look at the people that are around you if you just go and eat like white
[ __ ] pasta every day you're gonna be that dude that's like you know it's the [ __ ] white pasta
and i know how to cook like two minute noodles every day like that's [ __ ] attractive right
who the [ __ ] wants to be around that? How to become more aware of your surroundings you ask
have I got some pointers on this big thing that i find a lot of people
tend to do is when they go to work whether you drive a car or if you drive if you get on the bus
or the train or tram you typically go the same way every time right i mean this is your way to work
you get on it's mindless you don't think about it and then you just end up it's like you wake
up at your desk or wherever you work whatever you do wake up talking to this person like
hi yeah that's right so you end up just kind of on a pattern it's like
second nature the way you do things so the first thing to think about here is
which way are you going you're going the same way every day go a different way oh i know it's scary
isn't it it's terrifying what if what if i i'm late what if i uh don't know where i'm going and
i go like there's like a no through road and then i get caught in this traffic there's more traffic
that way there's i can't go this way well i can't do this because i can't change it's like yeah you
can change you can change your pathways this is new pathways that you're creating in your mind
i'll get into why this is important in a minute let's just say you work in an office building
or something i know it's the quickest thing i can think of you work in an office building and you've
got a few more blocks to go until you reach that building so you never go right down the street and
you know that it runs parallel with your office or google maps says that it does so you just continue
the same way every day you're not learning [ __ ] anything when you walk that same way every day
if you want to become more aware of your surroundings you need to experience more
surrounding it's literally that simple there's nothing else to it there's no [ __ ] science book
that i need to get out and be like whoa blah blah blah it's like you need to experience more things
it's like if you want to get better in your relationships you know you need to experience
either more relationships to understand things or you need to experience more things in your
relationship so that you get better at combating and dealing with things in a relationship so more
of these things can definitely be better now we're so sensory we have everything from our eyesight
and our hearing and we have everything from our sense of smell and touch and all these types of
things get shut down when it becomes so second nature it's like driving a manual transmission
stick shift so you know you first drive that and then you're like [ __ ] the clutch and then
like the brake and then you're like hitting the brake instead of the clutch and your head's going
through the windshield and you're just like i'll never get this but then eventually you know you're
going around a roundabout or you're like turning corners and you're like flying through gears and
[ __ ] like it becomes second nature that's your life your life has become second nature
so changing things up by going a different route or taking that side street and stuff and when you
take these side streets don't stare at your [ __ ] phone look around look at the people
that are around you i've got a story that when i went to la i went to a club it was on melrose
avenue and it was about 45 minutes for me to walk so i was like okay i didn't want to catch a cab
or anything like that so i was like oh that's cool i'll walk i haven't been here before let
me tell you walking through hollywood every five to ten minutes it's like i saw a different suburb
within hollywood like the people were different the cars were different the traffic was different
like the street lights looked different the houses were different the front yards were kept
and then unkept and then there was people that were on the sidewalk people that were homeless
people that were intense over here i would have never seen that perspective had i not decided to
walk that 45 minute walk i mean i saw everything like and like you do in la you know you would see
a super rich kid that's got like you know a million dollar car and then you'd be stepping
over someone that's passed out on the sidewalk there'd be a strip club on the other side it was
like just this crazy uh contrast like right there in that moment that i would have never witnessed
had i not gone for a walk and seen that now you can go for a walk and stare at your phone and see
absolutely nothing bill burr said like people on their phones they're on their phones they glued to
it so much that jesus could you know come down to earth and that no one would [ __ ] see him because
they're staring at their phone there's a level of consciousness that you develop
over time you don't just go click your fingers and become conscious you have to you have to become
it through cultivating it through things in your life so go a different route on your way to work
or that person that you're not very familiar with that you know you work with or you go to school
with uh that's a family friend or whatever it is and you don't really know anything about them but
they're always there at that gathering they're always there at that work party or whatever it is
talk to that person it's scary i know it's [ __ ] scary but it's scary because you don't know
what it's like if we keep living our lives going we don't know what this is like oh we don't know
how this is going to go i get it it's natural for us like we're humans and we're trying to
protect ourselves but we're not living in the [ __ ] bush anymore we're not living out in the sticks
and going oh we need to protect ourselves from every little thing it's like we live in a city
we live in suburbs we have friends of friends we have acquaintances there's nothing there's no harm
in approaching somebody that is a friend that you trust a friend's friend or somebody that you've
seen a bunch of times but you just sort of never really got around to talking to it's like expand
your network expand the people that you know and hey you know like if you're on a dating app or
if you're interested in other people or different cultures it's like go experience some of those
cultures try some different food this is another one becoming more aware is also about
knowing how things taste and knowing how things feel you know it doesn't mean you have to go and
like [ __ ] everyone doesn't mean that you have to go and get [ __ ] up on like burritos one day
and then you know eating italian whatever the other day if you just go and eat like white
[ __ ] pasta every day you're going to be that dude that's like you know it's the [ __ ] white
pasta and i know how to cook like two minute noodles every day like that's [ __ ] attractive
right who the [ __ ] wants to be around that honestly here's the thing about it though
this [ __ ] doesn't take one day to do this is a process this is a lifelong process you're going to
be experiencing tasting touching and feeling and smelling all kinds of different things throughout
your life but this is if you choose to do it these things require your attention your time
and your mind to actually focus on and learn about you know you can't go to school
and you know be on your phone the whole time and not pay attention in class you just never learn
anything so your life is like that i never leave this place i've been here for 30 years my grandpa
is like this you know i actually brought him a tv it was a bit smaller it was a 32 inch tv but his
tv was a [ __ ] ancient shoebox it was hilarious but it was terrible because it wasn't compatible
with digital you know tv so it was all [ __ ] and i said here's a tv it's a bit small but it's like
much more modern it's a good tv and it was way too far away from where his seat is in the lounge room
so he was like oh very good oh thank you and then he was like oh it's a bit small like you know i
said well you're gonna have to rearrange your room a little bit so that you can sort of fit
it and stuff and he's like no he didn't want to move his couch he didn't want to move where the tv
is which is in a terrible [ __ ] spot by the way he didn't want to change anything and it's this
very thing as well where it's like i know he's missing out because he's never tried any different
arrangement in his house and so he never knows what that's like he doesn't know how it feels to
be more productive to be more aware of things around him it's like he's chosen to be locked
into that little tight safe that he puts himself in so don't be that person be the kind of person
that is willing to expand yourself and by the if you're watching this video you're probably
interested in doing this anyway so take my advice there and actually challenge yourself to see
what it is what does it look like when i go this different way to work maybe this person that i've
not been speaking to for ages is actually a decent person i had a thing like that um i went to a
friend's party after i came out of high school and i've been in uni for a few years i never
spoke to this girl that was at his party and i was like oh hey yeah blah blah blah you know i
didn't you know how's it going i didn't know that you knew so-and-so and all that kind of stuff
and i was just like in that moment i was like why the [ __ ] didn't i talk to this person before
you know i was like why didn't i do this why didn't i do that because then you start to learn
more about communication you start to learn more about people you might go oh yeah now i've talked
to a whole bunch of other people i've started to learn that lots of people are kind of the same
and you know copying each other as opposed to being maybe naive about it and being like oh like
this unique individual person like oh they're all out there and stuff it's like all right you might
actually learn lots of people are very much the same or you might see some you might say
different you might go oh i spoke to someone else and they're like really unique and really cool and
that inspires me to learn more about myself you know i've learned more through that process so
it's very easy to get comfortable in this world but being uncomfortable is really where growth can
really start to happen so you're gonna be [ __ ] uncomfortable just trust me like if you
do something different if you go a different way you will see something different and then that in
itself can inspire you to change more and in turn become more aware of your surroundings so leave a
comment below and tell me what sort of things in your life have pushed you to become more aware and
progress to different things that you otherwise wouldn't have done before see you in the next one
