Transcripts
hello everyone my name is beansprout and
today we're going to be talking about
something i wanted to talk about for a
while
and i understand a lot of fans of these
styles of games
are very young so i don't expect there
to be a
rational argument down in the comments
section cuz i know there's gonna be a
war there
but if you can and you are mature enough
to understand my points
and know where i'm coming from try and
keep it as civil as you can
i don't want this to turn into a massive
argument i just want to
express my views and why i don't like
these kinds of games
i do want to bring up under the mail's
video on halo
and how a lot of people disliked that
video and
left without having to hear him out the
video was titled
halo ruined first person shooters i feel
that title is an
inaccurate representation of the video
the video
was pretty much was him giving his
thoughts on halo and how it changed the
industry and
how he likes more classic run-and-gun
shooters than the kind of cover-based
shooter that halo kind of introduced
and now i'm not disagreeing with him i
understand his points and i know where
he's coming from i just wanted to bring
that up
because that's kind of what this video
is going to be like and
near the end of the video he explained
that battle royales are kind of ruining
it for
fans of games like halo just like halo
ruined it
for a game for fans of people who like
quake or doom
and i do feel that games like halo and
doom and quake
should be able to co-exist but battle
royale's
should not be considered a genre because
it is a game mode
and the way mayo explains what a
what a battle royale is is an extremely
accurate representation
just listen to it doom was back and all
these games could exist how they wanted
we can have our halo fans our call of
duty fans our doom fans
and we can all co-exist but now we're
facing much darker times
i'm talking of course about battle
royale games which are 90
running around picking up items waiting
in lobbies and falling from the sky
but that's a subject best left for
another video that i'm sure even more
people will hate
so let me close on this point i'll bet a
lot of old school halo players are
having a similar adverse reaction to
pubg
and especially fortnite because now
they've lost their classic halo
experience
you see it's not a very intuitive
gameplay design
and i don't understand how so many
people find addicting i feel there's not
really much challenge that comes
from playing battle royale games i
really like the challenge in video games
and that's why i decided to start trying
to pick up dark souls i'm still stuck on
the second area but it's a
phenomenal game that i'm loving and that
is why i've just started to play doom
eternal on nightmare because
i just want to try and get better at the
game and i like the challenge it brings
around
but battle royales do not have this
challenge they just
don't have this challenge and that's one
of the reasons i really don't like these
kinds of games
and i've never really been a big fan of
multiplayer i mean
titanfall 2 great example of a brilliant
multiplayer that i would not get off of
i played that game for years and years
same with doom 2016's multiplayer that
was phenomenal
unpopular opinion but i pretty i really
enjoyed it
but i feel that these kinds of games are
lazily put together
and at times can be absolutely broken
and detract from the entire game
in general big example being cold war
that game i feel was only really broken
on launch because they put so much
effort
into putting the cold war weapons into
warzone and just look how that game
turned out when it first came out
another example of developers just
getting lazy because they know they can
make profit off of a battle royale
is pubg when it got poorer to the xbox
pubg was
not finished when it came on xbox but
the developers
just thought that they could release it
and get away with it because of how much
profit it would make them
and yeah they kind of did get away with
it and it makes me sick that people can
get away with stuff like this
releasing unfinished video games like
that
i know i'm pretty sure they finally
fixed pubg for xbox
but seriously there is no excuse to have
that kind of game
be like that on launch another thing i
really hate about this genre
is that pretty much every game is a
free-to-play game with
overly intrusive micro transactions that
take away from the inexperience in
general
once again going back to call of duty
they made sure that the in-game store
worked before making a good game
and a lot of battle royale games have
the battle pass system
that in turn is not a bad system and is
a great replacement for
loot boxes but when they have battle
passes that you have to pay for
it is just kind of a scam if you really
think about it
you're paying full price for a pass that
you might neck might not get all the
content for because you might not be
able to finish it because of work school
whatever
and don't say well it's your own fault
if you do if you don't finish it because
it's not you have
a lot of people have other stuff to do
and they set a time limit
for you to finish the thing that you
already paid for
and now i feel games like halo the
master chief collection
handle passes perfectly by having you
not pay for the pass
and even if the season ends you can go
back and finish the pass anyway
if you really wanted to because i have
not
spent any points on any passes except
for halo reach
because it's the only halo game that i
really play and you see i feel this is a
much fairer way of doing battle passes
and even if you don't get to keep the
pass to complete later
at least make them free because while
paying for something like that is just
a waste of money if you're not gonna get
all the content from it
and do maternal and the master chief
collection do this greatly do maternal
has a pass
that is free it goes away after 30 days
but it is still
free and the master chief collection has
its free pass that doesn't go away
and that is just such a good way of
doing these battle passes that
it's hot that it's hard to overlook
things
like paid battle passes that end after a
certain time limit
and i do feel there is many more ways to
monetize games
like that such as story dlcs and
that kind of stuff or expansions like
destiny does and i understand destiny
has a battle class as well
but those come built into the expansions
which come with way more content that
you already get and
not to mention the main gameplay loop
like mayo said earlier
is drop in get loot and wait in a lobby
and there is a lot of down time between
fights because it's a massive map with
usually 100 to 150 people and now this
isn't a bad thing in general a lot of
games do need down time even do maternal
has downtime in between fights
and not to the extent that battle royale
games are
and i do realize that i am comparing an
arena shooter to a battle royale
but if they reduce the size of some of
these maps
then it would make the games a lot more
interesting because
well there would be more people to fight
in a video game about shooting people
or if it's a different kind of battle
royale game then
it would just make it a lot more
interesting because there would actually
be people to fight
but if you made it this far without
disliking and leaving i hope you did
understand where i'm coming from and i
do understand
i understand a lot of the reason why
people like these games
and i'm not saying that in general they
are trash
because i have enjoyed a few of them
mainly being apex legends and warzone
but i can't find any appreciation for
those games anymore but because of the
state that cold war released in
and the fact that we're probably not
going to get another titanfall game
because of the sheer success of apex
legends
which just makes me sad but like i said
if you understood
thank you for actually hearing me out
and listening to my points
and if you enjoyed the video then give
it a like maybe
try and get more people to understand
where i'm coming from
and if you really enjoyed the video if
you kind of like this kind of
content then consider subscribing i do
mostly
cover doom and other retro shoes style
games like that
but if you do like that stuff then it's
a great place to come and just watch
stuff i guess
and if you haven't already then consider
joining my discord it's a great place to
come and chat to people
and just talk to people who like video
games and all that kind of stuff
and get and get updates on what i'm
going to be doing with my channel and
stuff like that
it's just a great place to come and join
but anyway thank you for watching
have a nice day and enjoy whatever type
of game you want i don't care
if you enjoy battle royale or not i just
don't
but but like i said thank you for
watching have a nice day
[Music]
