Transcripts
hi everyone welcome back to our channel
i'm anna and in today's
video we're going to talk about
the human person
in the environment
in the most essential learning
competency
the learner has to notice
things that are not in their proper
place
and organize them in an aesthetic way
so that care for the environment
contributes to health well-being and
sustainable development
and demonstrate the virtues of prudence
and fergality towards environment
so we will just summarize the content of
lesson four in one video
so if you're interested to find out more
about this
then keep on watching okay so
let's begin take a look at the picture
posted
what can you say about it
isn't it beautiful
how about this next picture
is this surrounding is this common to
your place
what happened
that is the question that we are
challenged
to answer what has happened
look around you how does your
surrounding
look like
is it orderly or disorderly
have you noticed about the changes in
the weather for the past years
scientists look into the changes in the
environment
and studies show that our world
is changing but not for the better
it's for the worse and who is
responsible for this
well your guess is as good
as mine we
as human beings have a great
contribution
in the effect of what is happening in
our environment
our actions have led the changes
that affect not only our species
but all the other elements found
on earth whether living or non-living
things philosophy
also explores the relationship between
humanity and the environment
we have what we call environmental
philosophy
or environmental ethics
environmental philosophy or
environmental ethics
is a discipline in philosophy that
studies the moral relationship of human
beings
with the environment and its non-human
components if a mining company has
helped uplift the economy of
a certain town is it okay for them to
perform
and open with a mining in an
unspoiled area without permeate
does the company has a moral obligation
to restore the landform these are
some of the questions being investigated
in environmental ethics environmental
philosophers
tackle issues such as humanity's role in
the natural world
the interaction between nature and the
human activities and humanity's
response to environmental challenges
there are three major views regarding
the relationship
between humans and the environment
so the first one is what we call
anthropocentrism
anthropocentrism focuses on the
significant role
of humankind in the world and considers
nature
as the means by which humans are able to
meet their
needs and survive this view
believes that humans are the most
superior or the most important
creatures on earth and that they are
free to
transform nature and use its
resources according to their purposes or
according to their
needs isn't it that landscapes
were reshaped so that structures can be
built on them
farmers uh till the soil for for crops
loggers for lumber to be used for
furniture houses or
firewood and so on so
our nature or our environment
was changed depending on
man's uh needs whatever is suitable
for for men so basically our
environment is um being utilized
uh depending on man's purposes
or needs the next
view is
biocentrism
biocentrism believes that humans are not
the only significant species
on the planet and all that organisms
have inherent value and should be
protected so every specie
has a value that should be protected
as well this view
drives the activities and the movement
for the rights and the protection of
animals our government
has passed laws that recognize the
rights or the welfare of
the animals such as the ra 84
85 or the animal welfare act
of 1998. finally the last
view is what we call
the echocentrism
echocentrism places great value on
ecosystem
and biological communities these view
believes that humankind is part
of a greater biological system or
community
and that we have a significant role as
two words or
guardians of nature this view promotes
the idea that
order and balance in nature
brings about stability and beauty
there are also other views in the
environment such as the
deep ecology
hypothesis
[Music]
these two also emphasize the
the interaction between the living
and the non-living components of the
environment
biologists believe that all biological
organisms interact with each other
and each organism has an
important niche in the echo system
so these are the views which um
sees the relationship between humans and
the environment environmental
aesthetics
environmental aesthetics believes that
maintaining order
in the environment will bring about the
natural beauty
of the surroundings and contribute to
the well-being of people
and other organisms living in it
this is actually the goal of many
countries in
the world uh that they have
to maintain cleanliness and orderliness
in their uh surroundings or or their
environment
because it will uh bring about you know
the natural beauty
of the surrounding if you preserve
you know the beauty of nature
a lot of people will go there and
enjoy the view so um
we cannot deny the fact that the
disorderliness
exists in the environment
because of people's um needs and
demands uh disruption in the
ecosystem is inevitable
recently the philippines has experienced
the onslaught of typhoon ulysses
which caused a great damage to
properties
and caused injuries to people and even
loss of lives so what do you think is
the cost of flooding in our country
as a rational being we know the answer
to that question
but what are we doing to make our
environment a better place to live in
one important development that arose
during the late 20th century
century is what we call
environmentalism environmentalism
is a social movement or an ideology
focused on the welfare of the
environment
environmentalism seeks to protect and
conserve
the elements of earth's ecosystem
this movement aims to correct the damage
and prevent future destruction
so under environmentalism
is environmental ethics which
was presented a while ago environmental
ethics serves as a basis
for reflecting on how our
actions show our regard for
nature we often complain about the
pile of garbage you saw somewhere
but what action have you done
to your surroundings or to your
community
so environmentalism encourages
our individual action but apart from
individual action environmentalism
also encourages the the government
the ngos or the non-government
organizations and other institutions
to uh commit to changing the world into
a better place
to live in there is an urgent
need for humanity to address
the challenges in the environment
environmentalists believe that
in order for humanity to continue
sustainable development should be the
goal
of everyone
sustainable development is the
overarching
paradigm of the united nations the
concept of sustainable development was
described
by the 1987 brunt
land commission reports as development
that meets the needs of the present
without compromising the ability of
future generations
to meet their own needs but there is a
difference between
sustainable development and
sustainability
so when we say sustainability it is
um often thought of as
a long-term goal like it's for us to
have a more sustainable
world but sustainable development
according to unesco refers to the
many processes and pathways to achieve
it so example sustainable agriculture
and forestry sustainable production
and consumption good government
research and technology transfer
education
and training and so on
sustainability relies on three important
principles so the first one
is environmental integrity
environmental integrity refers to
maintaining the state of the environment
so this means that human activities
should not
disrupt the ecosystems and the
communities
located in the area
so preserving the environment is the
goal of this
principle next is
economic efficiency
economic efficiency is the prudence
in decision making regarding the use of
resources
to ensure that there is minimum to zero
waste
so for example our supply of rice should
not be
wasted so in your family so you only
need to
cook the right amount of rice
for for your family members so that
no rice will be wasted
in the end then the third one
is equity
equity demands that we use our natural
resources
in such a manner that these
are conserved so that the next
generation
will be able to use them so in here
the virtues of prudence
and fergality
[Music]
can help us in our personal use
of resources when we say
prudence it is the ability to
regulate one's actions and behavior but
with regards to environment it is a
skill
and good judgment in the use of
resources well fergality
is being thrifty with the use of one's
resources so example by being prudent
you just buy the food that
you will most likely eat or that you
will eat
and then being a frugal means you just
have to
get enough food on your plate
so that nothing will be wasted
now reflect on how you have been using
your resources
at home how can you apply
or demonstrate prudence and fergality
in using your resources at home
or in community how will this
of virtues can help you
in addressing environmental problems at
home or in your community as human
persons
it is our responsibility
to protect and preserve
the place that we live in we must
take care of our environment because
this is our home
this is a serious matter
the world is changing let's start
acting now let's make this place
a better place to live in for the future
generation
as prince ea said
we are a part of nature
and to betray nature is to betray us
to save nature is to save us
because if we don't work all together
to save the environment we will all
be equally extinct
scary right so we don't want that
to happen so it's time for us now to
reflect there's somebody who quoted that
our love for humanity can be manifested
through love and concern for our nature
if you love yourself and you love your
family
then let's help save our
environment this is the last
topic in the first quarter but we cannot
deny
the fact that this is a very essential
lesson in this quarter it is very
important for us to
understand the role of human beings in
the environment
because we live in the environment
so we have to love our
home so this wraps up our lesson in unit
4
and also the last topic
in the first quarter and i will be
seeing you again
on the second quarter topics
that's also for um lessons
so i hope that you continue to watch
the videos even though sometimes i
posted the videos um late
but uh thank you for continue some
support
especially those who still watch the
videos even though
uh they have already finished uh the
topic
so thank you very much i hope to see you
again
on second quarter lessons thank you
again for watching
and hopefully you have learned something
from
this video stay safe
god bless everyone bye
