from John 6:
51-58 our reading from the holy Gospel
according to John Jesus said to the
Jewish crowds I am the living bread that
came down from heaven whoever eats this
bread will live forever and the bread
that I will give is my flesh for the
life of the world the Jews quarreled
among themselves saying how can this man
give us his flesh to eat Jesus said to
them amen amen I say to you unless you
eat the Flesh of the son of man and
drink his blood you do not have life
within you whoever eats my flesh and
drinks my blood has eternal life and I

will have life because of me this is the
bread that came down from heaven unlike
your ancesters who ate and still died
whoever eats this bread will Live
Forever The Gospel of the
Lord today's Gospel
Reflection today we're diving into one
of the most mind-blowing passages in the
gospel where Jesus says something that
totally flips the script on everything
we think we know about food life and
what it means to follow him so let's set
the scene Jesus has just fed the 5,000
and now he's got this crowd following
him they're pumped because well let's be
honest who wouldn't be excited about
free food right but Jesus isn't about to
just hand out bread and fish no he's
about to give them something way more
profound he says I am the living bread
that came down from heaven whoever eats
this bread will live forever and the
bread that I will give is my flesh for
the life of the
world whoa the crowd is like wait what
did he just say that we need to eat his
flesh and yeah that's exactly what he
said but let's not just stop at their
confusion let's dive a little deeper
here's the deal Jesus is talking about
the Eucharist this is where he gives
himself body blood soul and Divinity
it's not just about a symbol or a nice
reminder it's him truly present think
about it the god of the universe the
creator of everything is giving himself
to us in this incredible way Pope
Benedict the 16th put it like this he
said in the Eucharist Jesus does not
give us a thing but himself he offers
his own body and pours out his own blood
the Pope's words remind us that he's
offering us his very life why because he
wants to be that close to us he wants to
be that intimate with us
now the people listening to Jesus were
struggling to wrap their heads around
this they're quarreling saying how can
this man give us his flesh to eat and
instead of dialing it back Jesus doubles
down he says unless you eat the Flesh of
the son of man and drink his blood you
do not have life within you this isn't
just about a physical nourishment this
is about eternal life so what does this
mean for us today well it means that
every time we come to mass every time we
approach the altar we have this
incredible opportunity to encounter
Jesus in a real and profound way it
means that we're not just going through
the motions we're being transformed
let's not take this for granted let's
approach the Eucharist with hearts full
of gratitude and awe let's allow Jesus
to nourish us to strengthen us and to
send us out into the world to be his
Witnesses and so today let's pray and
receive Christ with Open Hearts and let
him lead us to eternal life
life we invite you to continue praying
