🎨 Introduction to Cloning in Photoshop

This paragraph introduces the video's aim to teach viewers how to clone themselves in a photo using Photoshop, similar to a previous tutorial on cloning in Premiere Pro. The narrator emphasizes the importance of taking non-overlapping photos with consistent lighting and suggests changing outfits or acting as if interacting with oneself to create a more convincing final image. The process begins with importing the photos into Photoshop and setting up the layers for editing.

05:01

🖌️ Editing Process and Layer Masking

The second paragraph delves into the editing process, starting with opening the photos in Photoshop and using the 'Place Embedded' feature to import them as layers. It details the use of the lasso tool to select and mask individual characters in each photo, ensuring they appear distinct and non-overlapping. The narrator discusses the importance of matching lighting and correcting any inconsistencies, such as shadows or lighting differences, using the brush tool on layer masks. The paragraph also addresses potential issues like missing body parts and provides a step-by-step guide on how to fix them using the brush tool to refine the layer masks.

Keywords

💡Clone

The term 'clone' in this context refers to the digital replication of an individual within a single image, creating the illusion that there are multiple instances of the same person. It is central to the video's theme, which is teaching viewers how to create a 'cloned' effect in Photoshop. The script mentions 'how to clone yourself in Premiere Pro' and 'how to clone yourself in Photoshop,' highlighting the main instructional goal.

💡Photoshop

Photoshop is a widely used image editing software by Adobe. In the video, it is the primary tool for achieving the cloning effect. The script provides a step-by-step guide on how to use Photoshop features like layer masks to combine multiple photos into one, showcasing the software's capabilities for editing and manipulating images.

💡Layer Mask

A layer mask in Photoshop is a tool used to hide or reveal portions of a layer without permanently altering the image. In the script, layer masks are crucial for combining the different photos of the individual, allowing each 'clone' to be seamlessly integrated into the final image, as seen when the script describes the process of selecting and masking each photo layer.

💡Lightroom

Lightroom is a photo editing and organization software also by Adobe. The script mentions editing photos in Lightroom before bringing them into Photoshop, indicating a workflow where Lightroom is used for initial adjustments and Photoshop for more complex editing tasks like cloning.

💡Aspect Ratio

Aspect ratio refers to the proportional relationship between the width and height of an image. The script mentions basing everything off the same aspect ratio when opening photos in Photoshop, which ensures consistency in the dimensions of the final composite image.

💡Framing

Framing in photography and videography is the composition of the visual elements within the shot. The script emphasizes the importance of proper framing when taking photos for the cloning effect, to avoid overlap and ensure that each photo can be easily integrated into the final image.

💡Selection

In Photoshop, making a selection refers to the process of outlining a specific area of an image to apply edits only to that area. The script describes using the lasso tool to make selections around the individual in each photo, which is then used to create a layer mask for the cloning effect.

💡Brush Tool

The brush tool in Photoshop is used for painting and editing with various brush settings. The script instructs viewers to use the brush tool with a soft edge to smooth out the layer masks, fixing any inconsistencies in lighting or edges between the cloned images.

💡Non-Destructive Editing

Non-destructive editing means making changes to an image without altering the original pixels. The script mentions the benefits of working with layer masks as a non-destructive method, allowing for adjustments without permanently affecting the original photos.

💡Export

Exporting in the context of image editing refers to saving the final composite image in a specific file format. The script concludes with the process of exporting the edited photo after all the cloning and adjustments have been completed in Photoshop.

💡Thumbnail

A thumbnail in video production is a small, cropped version of an image used to represent the video. The script mentions cropping the final image to a 16:9 aspect ratio for use as a thumbnail, indicating an additional step in the video creation process.

play00:00

hey everybody welcome back to another

play00:01

video today's video I'm actually

play00:03

referencing a video I made a few weeks

play00:05

back and that video being how to clone

play00:06

yourself in Premiere Pro and I figured I

play00:09

figured that some of you who had watched

play00:11

that video might actually want to know

play00:12

how to do the same thing but with your

play00:13

photos today's video is going to be how

play00:15

to clean yourself in Photoshop and then

play00:18

basically just how to make multiple of

play00:20

yourself in one photo but without

play00:22

further Ado let's uh let's get started

play00:24

so you're probably thinking first things

play00:25

first I'm gonna open photoshop on my

play00:26

computer I just bought it awesome first

play00:29

things first as you might have guessed

play00:30

you actually need to take the photos

play00:32

just like the cone effect in the last

play00:33

video you need to frame yourself so you

play00:35

first off don't overlap but you do have

play00:38

slightly more forgiveness if you do in

play00:40

Photoshop it's a way easier to mask that

play00:42

and you need to make sure that you take

play00:45

enough photos with the same lighting so

play00:47

it's very very easy to match it it also

play00:49

helps if you change your outfit or you

play00:50

just like look like you're interacting

play00:52

with yourself so acting as if you're an

play00:54

individual character in the world and

play00:55

you're all hanging out together that'll

play00:57

help sell the deal a little bit more but

play00:59

the biggest thing is to make sure that

play01:00

you take enough of yourself so you have

play01:02

multiple characters and you don't

play01:05

overlap yourself now that you've done

play01:07

that now that you've seen what I'm

play01:08

talking about let's actually dive in and

play01:10

bring that into Photoshop and get

play01:12

started on the actual editing process

play01:14

okay so now that we actually have our

play01:15

photos they're taken they're done or

play01:17

whatever we're ready to actually bring

play01:19

it in Photoshop so let's go ahead and do

play01:20

that what we can go ahead and do now is

play01:22

Click open instead of new file because

play01:25

new file we would have to set parameters

play01:27

like the image size or the canvas size

play01:29

DPI and so forth but because we're going

play01:32

to base everything off the same exact

play01:34

photo aspect ratio the quality

play01:36

everything like that we're going to go

play01:38

ahead and press open so open find out

play01:40

wherever you saved your photos in my

play01:42

case I made a folder called photos and

play01:44

that has all the photos that I just took

play01:46

and edited in Lightroom so go ahead and

play01:48

click the first photo in the sequence as

play01:49

you can see trunk clone picks one is

play01:52

what I named it that's the first one so

play01:54

let's go ahead and click that and Bam

play01:56

here we go look at me all Goofy standing

play01:58

over here by this tree now what we're

play02:00

gonna go ahead and do is actually go

play02:02

back to file so back to file

play02:05

go down to place embedded click on one

play02:08

place

play02:09

make sure that looks okay press the

play02:11

check mark if it is and do that for

play02:13

every photo you could obviously click

play02:15

and drag them all in but this is just a

play02:16

way to make sure that the framing is

play02:18

exactly the other photos framing but all

play02:21

right so now that we have all six layers

play02:23

or all six photos that I took as you can

play02:24

see down here in the layers panel in

play02:27

Photoshop we're actually ready to turn

play02:29

off all the layers except the first one

play02:31

uh so go ahead click all these off you

play02:34

can click the little eyeball perfect

play02:35

there we go and now we're back to what

play02:37

we looked like we just started with a

play02:39

minute ago except we have six more

play02:40

layers or five more layers that are

play02:42

turned off let's go ahead and turn on

play02:44

the one right above the bottom layer

play02:46

click the actual layer make sure it's

play02:48

highlighted like that and I'm going to

play02:49

go ahead and go over here to a lasso

play02:51

tool right here or alternatively you can

play02:54

press L on the keyboard and I'm going to

play02:56

just lasso myself out here keeping it

play02:58

very close to my body so I don't affect

play03:00

much of the image and let go now you can

play03:03

see the little marching answer the

play03:04

little dotted line surrounding me as a

play03:08

character in this scene so what that

play03:10

will do is tell Photoshop hey the only

play03:12

thing I want to be left in the frame is

play03:14

what's inside this selection so go down

play03:16

here once again if your layer is not

play03:18

selected make sure it is and then go

play03:19

ahead and press the layer mask Button as

play03:21

you can see me number two I mean number

play03:24

one are now in the same frame there is

play03:26

slight issues with this and I'll zoom in

play03:28

to show you and you might realize this

play03:30

already but if you zoom in holding alt

play03:32

and scrolling up or down on your

play03:34

keyboard not your keyboard your Mouse um

play03:36

you can see that the lighting is you

play03:38

know slightly different because this me

play03:40

created a slight shadow that might not

play03:42

be visible to your naked eye but when

play03:43

you compare them you probably will see

play03:45

it so what we can go ahead and do is

play03:46

press B open our brush tool back up make

play03:49

sure that your brush is as soft as it

play03:50

can go so turn your hardness all the way

play03:52

down and maybe we'll increase the brush

play03:54

size to I don't know a little bit more

play03:55

that was good so now I'm going to paint

play03:57

this back in and basically just smooth

play04:00

out that line that cut that I had

play04:03

and kind of paint back in some of the

play04:05

white things feel a little bit more

play04:07

consistent a little bit more real but

play04:09

you still have uh me now here unaffected

play04:12

the border of my image won't really

play04:14

affect me as a character and there we go

play04:17

um that's a whole lot better of a mix

play04:19

now we can even you know do this a

play04:21

little bit more we'll increase the brush

play04:23

size press X to switch from black to

play04:25

white so now we're on black as you can

play04:27

tell and I might add or subtract some

play04:29

more of this back in to fix the lighting

play04:31

and make it look a little bit more

play04:32

consistent and I think that's good so

play04:34

what we alternatively we do is do that

play04:36

for every other photo we'll do one more

play04:38

and then I'll you know we'll skip to the

play04:40

end so turn on layer three now and then

play04:42

we know okay there's Trent outside let's

play04:44

do one that's a little bit better uh

play04:46

maybe layer five sure so now we have

play04:49

layer five and we know we can do the

play04:50

same thing we can start the same way so

play04:52

go to lasso tool I'm gonna select a

play04:54

bigger selection around me so once again

play04:57

go ahead after you have your selection

play04:59

make sure the layer is selected and

play05:01

press the layer mask tool panel now bam

play05:04

there's three of me here but you can

play05:06

obviously tell the lighting here is a

play05:07

much different situation than the last

play05:09

one and that's a good thing because this

play05:10

will teach us how to fix or correct

play05:12

those issues so once again Press B to

play05:15

get brush tool back out see what color

play05:17

you're on if you're on black like I am

play05:19

that's fine for me right now I'm going

play05:20

to start with that you can always add

play05:22

back whatever you take away that's the

play05:24

benefit of working in a non-destructive

play05:26

layer mask let's erase some of these

play05:28

lines here except oh no we'll come back

play05:30

to that in a second so uh let's cut away

play05:34

some of this

play05:35

and overall it's pretty good except for

play05:39

the giant missing elbow of mine on the

play05:41

ground here and now this is what I mean

play05:43

by organize yourself in your frame so

play05:46

where you don't overlap so you don't

play05:47

have to do this but in case you did this

play05:48

I'm glad this happened because now I can

play05:50

show you what to do in case you end up

play05:52

in this type of situation so what I'm

play05:54

going to do is actually press on the

play05:56

bracket key to shrink down my brush tool

play05:59

alternatively you can go up here and

play06:00

just slide it but it's a little faster

play06:02

that way and I'm going to go ahead and

play06:04

zoom in holding alt and zoom and just

play06:08

kind of Trace out the edge of my arm to

play06:10

get started just so I know where it's

play06:11

actually at because it's kind of hard to

play06:13

know if you can't see it perfect now now

play06:16

oh my foot's missing but it's starting

play06:18

to look a little better

play06:20

um and we can keep working on this right

play06:21

so let's press X and erase some of this

play06:24

layer do it over here with the baseboard

play06:27

oh no I cut into my hand press X switch

play06:30

back keep going right we'll keep uh

play06:33

slowly etching this out you can do this

play06:35

a lot of different ways this is just the

play06:36

way that I'm showing you because it's

play06:38

very very simple and easy it just takes

play06:39

a little bit more time the better you're

play06:40

going to photoshop the faster you'll

play06:42

want to do things but they are more

play06:43

complex and take a little bit more

play06:45

knowledge so we're starting simple in

play06:46

the future videos if you're like oh use

play06:48

the pen tool you should use the pen tool

play06:49

and just Trace yourself sure I know I

play06:51

could have we're not doing it that way

play06:52

we're doing it this way for a reason

play06:54

look oh perfect beautiful now let's

play06:57

paint this line out

play06:59

bam beautiful there's three of me

play07:02

there's actually six photos in this

play07:04

sequence like one right here and a few

play07:06

others I'm gonna go ahead and add those

play07:07

in but you get the gist of it you get

play07:09

the point so let's go ahead we're gonna

play07:10

together you're gonna finish yours I'm

play07:13

gonna finish mine we're going to edit

play07:15

our photo in Photoshop and then export

play07:17

it as a single image and it'll see it

play07:18

when I'm done with this part so uh let's

play07:20

cut right to that okay so I went ahead I

play07:23

finished it as you can see now I did two

play07:25

things one I cropped it from four by

play07:27

three to sixteen by nine so I can use it

play07:29

both as a thumbnail and put it in this

play07:30

video you know and make it look okay but

play07:33

other than that all I did was the same

play07:35

thing we talked about in here as you can

play07:36

see in this group every photo layer is

play07:39

masked as you can see if you double

play07:41

click on the layer mask you can see what

play07:42

was layered out that might have been an

play07:44

issue but oh well but nonetheless I'm

play07:46

not saying this is the best method I'm

play07:47

not saying I'm an expert at doing this

play07:49

type of thing but it is you know it's a

play07:51

little quirky it's fun it's a you know a

play07:53

nice history rhyme post or whatever

play07:55

um but nonetheless it really is that

play07:57

simple go ahead take your photos you

play08:00

know take them make sure you don't

play08:01

overlap yourself if you do that's okay

play08:02

just do what it taught you and then from

play08:04

there bring it in Photoshop layer mask

play08:07

each one select your person or your

play08:09

character as you know its own individual

play08:11

section of the layer other than that

play08:12

that's it so I hope you guys enjoyed

play08:14

this video if you did and if you want

play08:15

something be sure to both hit subscribe

play08:17

like the video and share it with a

play08:19

friend and as always thanks for watching

play08:21

I will see you guys in the next video

play08:22

let me know in the comments what you

play08:23

want to see on that one too

play08:25

all right see you guys later goodbye
