Transcripts
i think if somebody asked me what
i would advise them about becoming a
counselor when they're right at the very
start of the journey
i would say don't hesitate but
just start small take one of our
introductory
courses a good example would be the ics
kl2 which is the introduction to
counseling skills
see what you think of it it's only a few
hours long it will
give you a good introduction to what it
might be like to just
sit with someone to listen to them and
to hold them if you will metaphorically
hold them
in a space which is dedicated to hearing
what they have to say if you like that
then there's a nice easy progression on
to the
counseling skills course the cskl2 where
you'll learn a little bit more about the
skills that you
found you were introduced to on the icsk
and you'll practice them you'll start to
listen to
yourself practicing them you'll start to
learn a bit about yourself
and then also i would say you're gonna
work with silence one of those
very underestimated listening skills to
give someone a bit of silence as they
think about them
what they're saying to you is a gift to
anybody
and if you like that then it's a nice
easy progression on to
cstl3 the level 3 in counseling studies
where you learn a little bit more
to about counseling theory to add to the
skills you've developed in
in the level 2 in counseling skills
and lo and behold by the time you've
completed level three
you'll really know whether this is
something you want to do
i think you'll know at that point
whether it's something you want to do
for a living and then you can take that
next step quite a big step i would say
it's quite an investment in time
into the level four but you'll be ready
for it by that point
and you'll be able to commit to the two
years that it takes for you to do the
level four
diploma and at that point
i would sort of say it sounds very
cheesy to say there's no looking back
but you know you'll be in a good place
at that point to start practicing out in
the counseling world
you
