Despite PlayStation's State of Play presentation being a disappointment, Xbox delivered an impressive 90-minute show featuring a variety of games that catered to diverse gaming preferences. The highlight was the reminder that many of these games would be available on Game Pass from day one, avoiding the steep $70 price tag that has become common for new releases. The mention of Stalker 2, developed amidst the ongoing situation in Ukraine, is particularly noteworthy for its impressive visuals and supernatural elements.
🎖️ Gears of War and the Xbox Showcase Success
The script concludes with the Gears of War trailer, which, despite its story focus, looks promising to the speaker. Transcripts
the Xbox showcase was
unexpectedly amazing despite 2024 in
general being considered to be a rather
dire year for gaming and PlayStation's
stateof play presentation being
absolutely dismal Xbox's showcase was
surprisingly very very solid with dozens
of spectacular looking games being
exhibited unlike PlayStation who
dedicated an entire third of their short
half hour presentations Concord a
soulless corporate Zuma shooter that no
one asked for Xbox on the other hand
delivered an action-packed Relentless
90minut Extravaganza showing off varied
gameplay experiences and titles catered
to all sorts of gaming tastes and do you
know what else is better while
PlayStation comes across as looking
microtransaction hungry financially
predatory and to not give a damn about
their loyal audience the Xbox
presentation reminded Gamers the Xbox is
the SST which offers the most value for
money through these
unprecedentedly tough Economic Times
something that Sony seemed to brush
under the carpet like as though it's not
even happening at the moment primarily
what I mean by this is that in Xbox's
case after practically every game was
shown on screen they would remind us
that these games can be played Day One
on Game Pass no huge $70 purchases every
single time you want to play a game this
this is something incredibly important
to remind customers who you are very
aware are thinking about every penny
they spend at the moment essentially the
whole thing came across as though it
showed an incredible awareness of their
core base and their needs rather than
tone death like PlayStation last week so
without further Ado let's begin
discussing some or maybe even all of the
games on the
Showcase so the first came up was Call
of Duty Black Ops 6 which they were
obviously doing um a Call of Duty direct
immediately after the main showcase so I
Shan go into too much I personally don't
play Call of Duty games but the trailer
does look pretty cool so yeah not not
really one for me but yeah it still
looks really really awesome I can see
why a lot of people would be really
really really Mega excited for this one
the next game not going to lie the
moment I saw that it said Bethesda
present I was already just ever so
slightly hyped I can't lie I love
Bethesda games um so for me that was
already a good start and then as as we
go through the whole the whole
presentation what you'll find is that
there's quite a few bits that have been
put uh put together by Bethesda so I'm
already a bit of a fan just a little bit
so as the trailer had got into sort of
full swing I was sitting there thinking
what is this it looks meant to evil I'm
like sitting there trying to place what
is this and um all of a sudden it starts
going almost like a bit mechanical
looking I'm like what is this wrecking
my brain trying to guess what it is I
was enjoying it already and then it
starts going into like all the action
and I'm like oh my God what is this oh
my God is this is this a doom game no
surely not oh oh my God it's a doom game
so yeah amazing looking Doom the Dark
Ages it looks absolutely sick I cannot
wait to have a go on that game it looks
brilliant I'm very very excited for that
absolutely on it the next game I was
like oh what's this is this like a
Walking Dead game or something and you
know obviously I'd had a bit of moan in
my state of play video um about tropes
that seem to be dragged on forever and
ever and ever so I was like oh God a
zombie game but give this trailer a bit
of a chance like it's usually all right
it's not too bad you started seeing some
slightly funky looking zombies was the
moment I realized it wasn't a Walking
Dead game um and that's when I realized
oh hang on a moment this is State of
Decay 3 I'm not really the biggest
player of zombie survival type games but
it does look all right I've got to say
though it is just a trailer there's not
actually any exhibition thereof any game
playay but it does look pretty cool
especially at the end of the trailer
where you have this absolute unit of a
zombie coming forward um which is
something that you don't get in Walking
Dead stuff so yeah looks all right I was
quite happy with it so the next trailer
I was like oh right okay is this a
service game just because of the way
they had it set up with um like the
different characters and their uh class
titles and so on and so forth um but it
was set in um like medieval European
looking sort of environments and was
looking pretty cold pretty dark and I
was wondering if this is going to be one
of them service games how on Earth is
that going to work and I think I might
have been wrong so the game is Dragon
Age the vilard now I've actually got
several Dragon Age games and I've never
actually played them so let me know if
you think I should give those ones a
quick go but actually looks all right it
does look all right I hope theyve not
got it set up as a service game um I'm
hoping that I'm just um worrying
unnecessarily after watching the Concord
trailer yeah it looks pretty fun it
looks like a bit of me um so I might
actually um I'll give that a go when it
comes out and in the meantime I might
give the older ones a go the next one I
saw Bethesda again and then started
hearing the theme from starfields
playing so I was like okay what's this
oh let's have a look so apart from
watching um sort of like maybe the first
15 20 minutes of Starfield on some Let's
Plays I haven't actually had a go on it
to yet myself so is this going to be the
thing that actually kicks me into gear
and encourag me to actually start that
game because I've been meaning to and
just not got around to it yet and I was
watching the trailer and I thought oh my
God that almost looks like a little bit
EV vent Horizon and I'm starting to get
into it a bit so if I needed any more of
a carrot to get on to playing Starfield
I do think shattered space is going to
be that carrot says it's coming out this
year so I will absolutely be giving that
one a go oh but that's not all it looks
like for people who have already got
Starfield it looks like there's a load
of downloads that they're going to be
able to have on the game so yes I really
think I need to get on Starfield sooner
rather than later again another Bethesda
one and I saw sugar bombs and I was like
oh okay you've got me it's Fallout so
yes I do love Fallout I haven't played
Fallout 76 though I really haven't the
last one that I played and I played it
to Absolute death was Fallout 4 so yes I
I was absolutely like quite excited when
I saw this one because I thought do you
know this is going to give me a reason
it's going to give me a reason to play
that game so yeah it was a brilliant
trailer I liked how different it was as
well that it was almost set up like um a
1960s television program with um the
voltech presenter and the panel there
taking the telephone calls and then it
was intering it with gameplay and a a
ghou overseer as well quite liked that
and um yeah it looks absolutely
fantastic again another carrot for me to
encourage me to actually install that
game and have a go on it after having it
on my shelf for such a long time but
then they drop it at the last moment oh
you get to play as a go I always
wondered why we couldn't play as a go
previously or why the character couldn't
start like turning into a goal and so on
and so forth but now we actually get to
play as one I am
absolutely I'm so happy I like that a
lot so yes that's going to be out in a
couple of days and it's straight on Game
Pass yeah love it very very consumer
friendly
so the next game is something I've never
seen before uh CLA obscure Expedition 33
this game looks absolutely brilliant
like outrageous like the trailer as soon
as it opens I'm like what the hell is
going on honestly color me intrigued
like the first part of the trailer where
it just shows sort of like a story um a
story trailer showing I guess what's
going on in the game and I am already
like so ke I I cannot wait to have a
gone on this game even better than that
it seems to have some jrpg elements to
it so yeah love that very excited for
that very very excited for that the art
style of the next game is absolutely
glorious it is it's so different looking
it just looks so good I cannot oh I I
can't I cannot explain to you how pretty
this game looks and I like the
characters on it um I like the
environment I like the sounds it it
looks so imaginative oh I just
absolutely love it it's gorgeous but
this is one of the trailers where you
actually get to see some of the gameplay
and it looks so fun and a little bit
scary but mostly fun I I want to have a
go I love The Vibes of it it seems to
have almost like deep south vibe to it I
like the blues music um I I even like
the accents of all of the characters it
just it feels so different and really
really fresh I really really like it so
yes it's called south of midnight and
it's coming it's coming next year but
it'll be going straight to Game Pass so
absolutely I will be having a go on that
game I love the look of that game the
next game was World of Warcraft that's
not um a game that I've ever
particularly been overly interested in
I've never really had a go on it so
there's not really much that I can
comment on it apart from it looks pretty
good then we move on to Metal Gear Solid
and that was quite an interesting one to
see now I have not had a go on a metal
gear game for a really long time and
I've never actually had a meaningful
playthrough of a metal gear game either
so I actually think this is one that I
might um give some attention to when it
comes out like I've gotten quite used to
playing quite fast-paced games but
obviously this one forces you to slow
right down and really think about what
you're doing and it looks absolutely
marvelous from from the trailer so
that's definitely one that I might have
a look at I don't want to go too deep
into the trailer on that one because
it's not caught my eye as much as some
of the other games on this so next up
they had official sea of Thieves season
13 uh become a villain which um I again
I've never actually had a go on see a
thieves I know a lot of people who
actually really really enjoy that game
um it's not one I've had to go on before
but it does look pretty all right I like
the look of it stylistic Ally this one's
probably the most unique one so far as I
said I've never had a go and see a
thieves myself but by the looks of this
trailer I think I've been missing out
next they showed flint lock the siege of
dawn which is coming out on the 18th of
July and going straight to Game Pass I
can't put my finger on it there's
something about that game that isn't
quite hitting it with me I am not sure
that's one that I'm going to rush to
have a go on I can't put my finger on it
I don't know why it looks all right I'm
probably being a bit harsh
I don't know what's um what's not doing
it for me but there's something about it
that's um not really all there for me
you see the next game though as soon as
I saw this as soon as I saw Isis I was
like oh my God and I immediately felt
this huge amount of excitement welling
up in me and I was like oh my God age of
apology oh my God Age of
Mythology I watched state of play I've
watched this I've watched otk I've
watched a couple of the other ones this
is the first time where I was actually
like oh my God I'm so excited about a
game and it's because it's a game I've
already played a million times but
they've made it new so yes AG of
Mythology I am fully fully hyped for
that very excited bloody love it yes I
don't know else to say I love that game
and they've remade it and I'm going to
be able to play it on my Xbox
and I so happy that it is a play it on
day one with game pass the next trailer
is for Perfect Dark and I thought that
was quite interesting because virtually
all of the trailer is nearly all
gameplay and I liked that I appreciated
that it looks like it's good fun looks
like it's got really interesting story
line to it um very intriguing and I
definitely want to give it a go so apart
from looking like a bit of a first-
person shooter it's also giving parkour
it's also giving day one game pass so
very consumer friendly Xbox I'm loving
it next up they have Diablo 4 and they
start this part of the trailer saying
the following trailer contains graphic
content and may be disturbing to some
viewers it grossed me out all I'm going
to say is if you haven't watched the
trailer and you're not easily grossed
out then you'll be fine but I watched it
and there was one bit
and I was absolutely horrified I've not
played Diablo and I don't know if I can
if I've got to watch that
again oh my gosh so yeah that's coming
out later this year I can't say I'll be
having a go though bloody hell the
moment the next game trailer started
playing I was like oh oh oh oh now I
know some people online have been
complaining about the appearance of the
main character however I am a bit of a
DieHard fan of fa I absolutely bloody
love the Fable games for me I feel like
all of the characters all look a little
bit on the ugly side as it is so it
doesn't bother me personally in fact not
going to lie I think it looks gorgeous
not the main character but the game
itself looks absolutely stunning I just
I love it it's so British now one of the
things I really really really love about
the Fable games is that you can
basically choose whether you go like
down the Goods Route a neutral route or
a bad route and I always cuz I'm such a
goody I always pick like the really
really like good sensible route oh I
just I love it and you would not
convince me otherwise I bloody love it I
will play it regardless of how
unappealing the main character might be
oh and it's another day day one game
pass I love it when there's consumer
friendly practices in place next up
there's frag Punk uh not really
interested in that one it looks like a
service game Zuma shooter and so I'm
going to give this one a quick skip what
I will say though is kudos to Xbox at
least you didn't make the first third of
the entirety of your bloody presentation
all about one of these games I mean cuz
that would be really thick wouldn't it
oh but the next game is so cute it's got
mouses it's called winter burrow it's
got an absolutely beautiful art style to
it it's just so cute looking that I
might punch the wall and then have a go
on the game and then cry because the owl
took her friend it's okay though people
because it's on Game Pass next year next
up we've got um a game called mixtape
which kind of looks like it should be
one of those like ' 80s teenage programs
that you see on Netflix it looks all
right it's not something that I think I
would have a go on but I can see how
that would appeal to um quite a few
people but it's just not really
something that I would be interested in
does look pretty cool and obviously it
has got a really good soundtrack to it
but again not really like my cup of tea
personally then we've got the Elder
Scrolls Online again I love Skyrim but
I'm not an online MMO type person for me
yeah it it looks all right I won't be
having a gar on it uh then we've got
life is strange Double Exposure I've not
had a go on the life is strange games
before it looks like it's really
interesting I like the art style I like
the hopping between one reality and
another I definitely think that I will
potentially be looking at giving that
one a go um when that comes out because
it just looks like quite an interesting
experience next up we've got a game
called Mecha break now when the trailer
first started for that I thought oh
Transformers then quickly realized I had
that completely wrong but it is a Mech
game so I wasn't entirely wrong but
again like I feel like that's something
that when I was younger I was too young
for proper Transformers and then I was
too old for like it's Resurgence so it
doesn't appeal to me but I know loads of
people who will be bang on that um and
then they had Indiana Jones now this was
quite interesting because I haven't
watched the Indiana Jones movies but
this game looks brilliant looks like
it's going to be really really good fun
so I actually think I will play that
game like I've never like been
particularly interested in in in Indiana
Jones before definitely want to give
that one a go like this trailer looks
fantastic for it if it turns out that
this is quite true to the movies maybe I
don't know maybe I should give them a
watch it's like pretty Epic that's like
saying oh I've never seen Star Wars
before or saying like oh I've never
watched the proper Jurassic Park before
it's kind of crazy isn't it then we had
a game called Wu Chang Fallen feathers
and I thought oh here we go we've now
got one of our feudal China feudal Japan
Feud feudal China on this one I think
and I love that type of aesthetic but my
God this one looks like a scary game
does look scary I think it's one of
those games that I would like to have a
go at it but I think I will have to
psych myself up for it it's not like on
Playstation state of play where every
other game was feudal East Asia this is
like the first one so we'll see we'll
see next up is the Val uh very colorful
looks very interesting seems to have an
interesting story line um it is a
storyline trailer so there's only
limited amounts of gameplay in it but
from the gaml that I can see it's it
looks quite fun I do think this is
something that I would like to have a go
on um when it comes out again I I'm a
bit of a sucker for that kind of game I
do enjoy them again with an incentive
like Play Day One on Game Pass you can't
really complain at that can you then
avow is immediately followed by
quintessential British Countryside that
looks like the
cotw that is so
proper rural British Countryside like oh
my God the game is called atom fall and
it almost looks like it's like Fallout
but set in England somehow and like a
little bit more second world war it
looks absolutely brilliant I am
definitely going to be having a go on
that that looks fantastic stalker 2
heart of Chernobyl looks sick it looks
absolutely bloody brilliant it says on
the game trailer that it's actually been
made in the Ukraine like how recently
like still being made in the Ukraine
like I don't really know what's going on
over there at the moment so so if that's
actually been created with all of the
problems that are happening over there
at the moment like that blows my mind
with all of that going on around them
and they can create something like this
again it looks so good I absolutely
definitely want to play that at at the
earliest possible opportunity so the
game looks like you're in the middle of
a war but there's all of these
Supernatural elements going on as well
so it looks super intriguing next you
have Sarah Bond talking about some
updates to the X and S consoles um I'm
pretty happy with the console that I've
got I'm not going to be rushing out to
buy the updated version but still that's
nice for people that are interested in
that sort of thing and last but not
least we have Gears of War eay again
it's a story trailer and it's Gears of
War so I think that's going to go down
quite well I am probably a bit too
chicken to play the Gears of War games I
don't know my brother-in-law used to
like playing them so I'd have to see I'd
have to see I think it looks pretty cool
from the trailer I'm not sure if it's
one I want someone else play it but it's
um it looks pretty awesome I thought it
was a very good show the presentation
was significantly better than the
PlayStation state of play first of all
it was a much longer presentation
secondly it also had Call of Duty
presentation right at the end of it so
it had its own best spoke show um
thirdly it had so much more variety
there was a lot more variety in in games
there was a lot more games they gave
each game um much more time to breathe
they didn't waste an entire third of the
presentation on Zuma shooter bollocks
I've got to say that I do think that
they've they've knocked out of the park
with this one I will say though that
they haven't made anything that I think
think can challenge astrobot like
astrobot was pretty much the only thing
on stay to play that really stood out to
me on this one I thought maybe they
could have done with a few more cute
games they have um winter burrow which
looks really really really sweet but
it's not really a game for kids at all
that it looks like it might be a bit
scary for children to play the owl um
astrobot was that's that's going to be
fun for everybody but astrobot alone is
not enough to rescue PlayStation from
this I think Xbox have really really
really delivered where PlayStation
haven't it's so much more consumer
friendly yes overall I think it was
great I'm really happy with it I'm
really really happy with some of the
announcements I I I think that
PlayStation really need to take a look
at this and think about their game plan
going forward this could be their
undoing this could knock them off their
top spot and this could give Xbox some
much needed boost that they really
really needed like they needed this to
deliver and I really think it has and if
