Transcripts
hi guys it's me sigh I am very excited
to be coming back this summer to work
with all of you in Mammoth I can't wait
as some of you may or may not know the
show that we're working on this summer
is one of my favorites it is the Merry
Wives of Windsor and the reason it's
called The Merry Wives of Windsor is
because it takes place in a town in
England called Windsor and there are all
sorts of really fun people who live in
this town Windsor we have some wealthier
families the pages you have mistress
page and master page and you also have
their best friends the Fords who also
have some money mistress Ford and master
Ford and the pages have a young daughter
named Ann page and the thing about Ann
is she's very young and beautiful and so
many of the men in the town are in love
with her and want to get married to her
there's an outsider from France he's a
doctor his name is doctor Caius and he's
really crazy he gets really angry really
quickly he has a really fun accent and
he like flies into a fury and he's in
love with Han page and he wants her to
marry him so badly and he has a servant
named oh yeah Jack rugby who he likes to
yell at and scream at and tell what to
do he has always pushing him shoving him
around and rugby even though he kind of
gets yelled at is still a really good
servant and always really happy to be
serving doctor caius he also has a maid
in his service and her name is mistress
quickly and she's really fun because
she's kind of the town gossip she runs
around from place to place the place and
lets everyone know what everyone else is
up to so doctor caius is in love with
the beautiful Ann page but there's also
another guy named slender who's in love
with Ann page he's younger
he doesn't have maybe such a good job as
doctor caius and he's not very smart
he's kind of a doofus but you know his
hearts in the right place and his uncle
his older uncle named shallow and I
think shallow is really fun if he's like
an old old man really really wants
slender to get married to Ann page
they've also gone to a Welshman
from Wales if any of you have ever heard
of the place called Wales and the
Welshman is a priest
and they're all trying to get slender to
get married and his name sir Sir Hugh
Evans and he's really fun too because
you can do a fun accent with him
so you have doctor Caius the Frenchman
with the fun accent and you have Hugh
Evans the Welshman with a fun accent and
so they're all fighting with each other
arguing with each other trying to make
sure that the right person ends up with
and now here's the thing no one has
asked Anne what she wants she has a
young man that she's interested in and
his name is Fenton and he finds a way to
sneak in and talk to her and fall in
love with her and they manage to sneak
away from everybody and get married
without anyone knowing about it which is
actually a really really sweet scene now
all of this is going on while there's
another outsider in the town and this
guy is named Falstaff and we've met
Falstaff before another Shakespearean
plays he's here now he is a knight he is
fat he is greasy he is really ridiculous
he's funny he thinks he's the best thing
in the world and he's got some followers
that follow him around named pistol
Bardolph
and NIMH and these guys are kind of like
soldiers kind of like pirates kind of
like thieves they think they're doing
well but maybe they're not doing that
great they like to cause problems and
Falstaff and his friends have ended up
at the tavern they're being kept by a
guy who's called the host of the Garter
he's the dude who owns the tavern and
they're staying there and Falstaff is
thinking how can I make some money what
can I do to get rich easily and he
decides that he's going to tell mistress
page and Mistress Ford that he loves
them and he thinks that maybe if they he
can get them to love him they'll give
him some of their money so he tells his
servants pistol and Bardolph and him
take these letters to these two women
and let them know what's going on tell
them how much I love them and then he
walks off now these guys are not happy
about this
they're like I don't want to be this
guy's mailman I have all sorts of other
things going on what I'm gonna do is I'm
going to go tell mistress page and
mistress Ford's husbands what's going on
so master page finds out that Falstaff
is in love with his wife not really he's
just pretending and also master Ford
finds out now master page doesn't care
he trusts his wife he's like whatever
I'm not worried about it
the master Ford is jealous he gets angry
really really easily and he decides that
he's gonna put on a costume call himself
Brook and try to figure out what's going
on with Falstaff now the best part one
of my favorite scenes is the two wives
mistress page and Mistress Ford Hayden
they know what Falstaff is up to they're
not dumb they know what's going on they
decide that they're going to play a
trick on him so they find all sorts of
fun ways to get revenge on him there's
one really great scene where they trick
him into getting into a laundry basket
and they have their servants John and
Robert carry him out and throw him into
a dirty muddy pile which is really fun
later they tricked him into dressing up
like an old woman and he ends up getting
beaten up there so there's a lot of
really really fun silly scenes the best
thing about this play is the characters
are all huge ridiculous and a lot of fun
it ends up being really really silly and
in the very end the very end of the play
the entire town comes together to pull
one final trick on Falstaff they meet
him in the woods and they pretend like
they're ghosts and fairies and sprites
and they scare him and he really gets
worried and then they reveal themselves
at the end and it's a really really fun
play so I can't wait to work on it with
you guys I really really look forward to
it
