hello behind me I have the three-step
road map for how to be consistent so I'm
going to zoom into each of these they
are a couple three different exercises
that I did the other week I just like
laid out a flip chart spread out on the
floor had my cat next to me and I did
these exercises and I'm just feeling a
lot more rejuvenated but this is the
three-step road map for how to be
consistent okay should I use my stick to
be all professional this is actually a
cat toy normally cat toys go on the end
of this look at me my stick there are
three main reasons that you are not
consistent and we are going to dive into
each of those reasons as get into this
the first reason is you have no vision
you don't know what you want you have no
Clarity maybe because you have no
Clarity you're actually working towards
something you don't even want in the
first place and it's really hard to be
self-disciplined when you don't want
something the second reason is you are
having an identity issue where you want
something and you're saying I'm not the
type of person that could have it I'm
not smart enough I'm not charismatic
enough I'm not hardworking enough
whatever the reason is you have an
identity mismatch with what you want and
what you are saying that you are and the
third reason is no clear action plan no
step-by-step thing sit down to work and
it's just write the book and it's just
nebulous and it's like I don't know what
I'm going to do so we're going to solve
each of those three issues for you today
okay the first one we're going to look
at is your identity so it's okay if you
can't really see this because this is
just my personal one there's just one
question to answer so you've got to quit
telling yourself I'm not this type of
person or I'm not this enough or I'm to
this or whatever these things are you
have to get your identity in aligned
with it because if you really want
something then it is part of your
identity and part of your purpose to go
and get that thing and you have to start
thinking not about term terms of like oh
I just want this thing but it's in terms
of is this part of my purpose and is
this part of my potential and am I not
reaching my potential by doing this
thing and this takes kind of a long it's
kind of a long shift to get into this
but one exercise that I found really
helpful is this brainstorming exercise
and I've found that I've kind of
underestimated the power of
brainstorming because a lot of times you
just think oh well it's just going to be
the first couple ideas that are the good
one anyways but as I was doing these
brainstorming exercises there were a few
cases where it was actually the 28th
idea that ended up being the really good
one and it really stretches your mind a
little bit more so I encourage Divergent
thinking at first to really cast The Net
wide and prioritize after the fact so
this exercise is a few steps what I did
here on this one one belief that I was
having an issue with is that I'm not a
serious business owner I'm just kind of
like I'm just like doing YouTube here
and there you know I'm not really like
putting all this effort into it but the
question is what would I do if I was a
serious business owner and I challenged
myself to brainstorm 50 things as the
first step of this exercise so since
things I wrote were like having a more
serious website have you seen my website
it's not very serious right now it's
going to get better getting a new camera
getting fully dressed for filming
reading one book A Week in the niche and
I just brainstormed all these things
like 50 things what would a serious
business owner do and now we're not
going to do all 50 things because that
would just be overwhelming the point's
not to do that so the Second Step then
is to go and rank them on a scale of 1
to 10 how much impact would this have on
me in the next 3 to 4 months we're
trying to keep the timeline short and
there's a phrase I just heard Sev kill
businesses and a lot of times like the
enemy of great is good so what I'm
talking about seven is like seven out of
10 ranking something for some reason
there's a big difference between a seven
and an eight for years I'm always
telling people don't settle for a seven
don't settle for a seven don't settle
for a seven now nothing's going to be a
10 or perfect but I'm like come on you
got to get to an eight there's like a
big difference between there so like
even if I go shopping I like rate it in
my head is this a seven or an eight so
you're going to go through and rank okay
this 10 was have a 10 impact two this
would have a two impact and you go down
the list and you say how much impact
would this have then the final thing you
do is you write down the 10 the nines
and the 8 I I stopped at 8.5 so when I
wrote this down I got to a list of about
10 things and from there I added them to
the calendar what are tasks Garrett can
do cuz he's working for me what are
tasks that I can do and we're delegating
them and putting them on the calendar
because if these really have a 10 impact
in the next four months then I need to
do these and hone in on these things and
it really cuts out the fluff like yeah
it seems like maybe getting a Sony
camera would be good or it seems like
all these things would be good but it's
really good at prioritizing and just
giving the clears your mind just be able
to say no what is more impactful about
this is you start becoming the person
that you think you're not if you have an
identity shift I'm not a serious
business owner it's like well what would
a serious business owner do and I'm
going to start taking steps to do that
and if over a long amount of time I
start taking steps that a serious
business owner would take then I become
a serious business owner I see myself in
that way so that's the case if you know
what you want you have the vision but
the identity there's just some like fear
or I'm not this enough or whatever
second issue maybe don't have long-term
vision and the question is are you doing
what you really want and if you're not
doing what you really want why are you
doing it it's going to be so much harder
to be self-disciplined on something that
you don't really want if you have two
goals one of them is unrealistic and you
really want it and one of them's like
more realistic but you just kind of want
it choose the unrealistic one every time
because on the way to that even if you
don't get that unrealistic thing your
life is going to be so much more like
what you want it to look like always go
after the thing that's most exciting my
anchor words are always scared and
excited does it make me excited and it
makes me a little nervous that's the
thing going that direction if it doesn't
make you a little nervous if you feel
very self-confident about it it's kind
of like myn numbingly boring so these
here are three questions that Steven cvy
recommends you answer if you're looking
for this thing first off what I want to
say is if you don't have Clear Vision I
think you actually do have Clear Vision
you just haven't admitted it to yourself
yet if that's the issue boom you can
just move on to the next thing but I
think even clarifying your vision with
these three questions is really helpful
and again we're Divergent brainstorming
so the first question is what do I want
to be known for what do I want to
achieve and what unique contributions
can I make and I brainstormed at least
10 for each of these things I think
you'd have even better results if you
brainstormed more but the point is not
to just believe the first thing that
your brain thinks and think okay that's
a thing because sometimes like I say
number 28 is a thing that's really good
and that came up with a vision statement
kind of putting those three prompts
together some of them had a lot of
overlap we are known for inspiring
people to retire and dream bigger and we
offer a ro model for other women to
follow we make a million dollars each
year and have a bestselling planner in
Target and we have a highly empowered
team okay and the third and final thing
is you need a clear action plan it
cannot be nebulous and I mean it needs
to get specific enough to where you know
what you need to do do tomorrow you sit
down and the task is small enough the
task cannot be write a book because you
sit down and you're like uh should I
brainstorm or should I outline or should
I hire a coach or you know all these
different things so there's all these
things you could do but it's important
to have it narrowed down to what is my
next step tomorrow and always have what
is my next step tomorrow and getting it
as clear as that but basically it's all
about dream segmentation that's my thing
so you say okay in a year I want to have
a book written so you make yourself
quarterly Milestones okay you got four
benchmarks okay I want to have it
outlined by this spot rough drafted by
this spot edited by this spot published
by this spot you just give yourself kind
of four benchmarks to make sure you're
on track then when you get to quarterly
planning you get to quarter one you got
your 3 months January February March I
have an undated version of this on the
website by the way so you can start
whenever pick when you want your quarter
to start and you say okay if I want to
have it rough drafted by this point that
means I want to have half of it rough
drafted here I want to have it outlined
by here and you give yourself monthly
benchmarks then maybe if your monthly
Benchmark for January was you wanted to
have half the book rough drafted then
when you get to monthly planning you
give yourself four weekly benchmarks
okay maybe I want to have brainstormed
all these things one week I want to have
the outline the next week I want to
Rough Draft a quarter of the book next
week and a quarter of the book the next
week and then when you get to weekly
planning you set daily benchmarks so if
you said I want to have the book
outlined by the end of this week then
you say okay tomorrow my action step is
I want to brainstorm all of what the
chapters could be and that system is Big
Picture enough to make sure that you
stay on track just like if you're
planning a wedding you want to have an
end date that makes it kind of serious
when you have the state and so you want
the big picture but you also want what
am I doing tomorrow I need my specific
task when I sit down tomorrow and
eventually just create one habit
eventually if you're writing a book for
example your habit is you sit down to
your desk every day for me when I was
working on YouTube every day I was at
the coffee shop 6:00 to 7:00 a.m.
working on YouTube but beyond just that
habit you need to know what is due today
like you need a goal like you don't want
your Habit to be you sit down and you
kind of just work and you're not sure
when you're done you want you need to
know when you're done this is my task
for today and I know that if I get that
task done it's making progress and you'd
be surprised how just giving yourself an
hour a day 5 days a week my life looks
completely different just after four
years of just doing this system I love
this quote a lot of times people will
overestimate what they can get done in a
year so maybe they get discouraged
because they didn't reach it but they
underestimate what they can get done in
10 years maybe you feel like a little
discouraged in the moment but just keep
hanging on and you will get there so I
mentioned having a vision getting your
identity aligned with it and having an
