Transcripts

play00:00

- You know, if you think about

play00:01

how the believer carries themself in this life,

play00:04

the believer is not someone who seeks to be on a throne,

play00:07

or someone who seeks a position of highness.

play00:10

And the believer is not someone who's relaxed

play00:13

in the sense that they have a great sense of urgency.

play00:16

So, they're not laying back

play00:17

when other people lay back and are heedless.

play00:20

They're fighting with themselves so that they can pray,

play00:22

so that they can strive for the sake

play00:23

of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

play00:25

And while others will do anything that they possibly can

play00:28

to have power and to have prestige,

play00:31

the believer seeks to be humble

play00:33

and instead seeks that prestige

play00:35

and that place of prominence with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,

play00:39

in a high place in paradise instead of this lowly world.

play00:55

The furniture of Jannah reflects many

play00:58

of the themes that are found in the qualities

play01:00

of the believer, and how the opposite is now true

play01:03

in terms of your positions in the hereafter.

play01:06

And so if you think about couches,

play01:07

you know when people talk about couches in this life,

play01:10

usually it's speaking about relaxing

play01:12

after a long day of work.

play01:14

And so, you have couches in Jannah,

play01:17

and it shows up in the Quran along the same theme,

play01:21

people reclining and relaxing with one another

play01:24

after a long life of hard work,

play01:26

and the entirety of this life will seem

play01:29

like a day or part of a day,

play01:31

once we enter into that eternal bliss insha Allah Ta'ala.

play01:34

And then you have thrones and thrones denote honor, right?

play01:38

And many of the thrones in this life, if not all of them,

play01:42

are usually sought by means of corruption

play01:44

and then used as means of tyranny.

play01:46

And the believer is not involved

play01:48

in either one of those two things.

play01:51

And so on the day of judgment, they sit on thrones

play01:53

in the gardens of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala

play01:56

as they avoided all of those things

play01:58

that would've corrupted their good deeds

play02:00

and lowered their position with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

play02:03

So let's look through some of the categories

play02:04

of the furniture in Jannah.

play02:07

So you have the furniture of the homes

play02:10

and these palaces of paradise have been furnished

play02:13

in the most beautiful of ways.

play02:15

They have gardens that you can sit and recline in.

play02:18

You have beautiful couches of delightful colors.

play02:21

You have high beds, and the interiors are lined with silk.

play02:25

You have this magnificent appearance

play02:28

of the drapes and the various colors.

play02:30

You have cushions and carpets that are laid out

play02:33

that match the colors of the gardens.

play02:35

You have all of these things.

play02:36

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la mentions,

play02:38

Feehaa sururum marfoo'ah Wa akwaabum mawdoo'ah

play02:41

Wa namaariqu masfoofah Wa zaraabiyyu mabthoothah

play02:44

Right? So you have thrones raised high

play02:47

and cups in your hands and cushions that are set

play02:50

in rows and rich carpets spread out, and he says

play02:53

Muttaki-eena 'alaa rafrafin khudrin wa 'abqariyyin hisaan

play02:57

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la says,

play02:59

reclining on green cushions

play03:00

and rich, beautiful mattresses.

play03:03

So you have the relaxation of Jannah

play03:07

and that is a common theme. And when you read these ayaat,

play03:10

it refers to the loss of hem, the loss of anxiety, right?

play03:14

You're not really worried about anything in Jannah anymore.

play03:17

And so the reclining position is spoken about to reflect

play03:21

that the soul is now at rest, whereas in this life

play03:24

you were fighting with your body because

play03:26

the soul was not at rest, and you were seeking that comfort

play03:30

in Jannah and forsaking the comfort of this dunyaa.

play03:32

And then you have the gatherings

play03:34

of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala in al-Jannah.

play03:36

So this is one theme of gatherings

play03:38

and these are the people that are sitting

play03:41

on platforms of light, and they are the highest people.

play03:45

You have people that are sitting on platforms of gold.

play03:48

You have people that are sitting on platforms of silver,

play03:51

and you have the lowest person in the gathering

play03:54

that's sitting on a sheet of pearl.

play03:56

But the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said that

play03:58

"No one's going to think that anyone is higher than them."

play04:01

And this is when Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala

play04:03

addresses the people of Jannah.

play04:04

So the people gather and everyone sits

play04:06

on their allotted throne or platform

play04:10

or sheet or whatever it may be.

play04:12

And the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam said that

play04:13

"Everyone is going to see Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala."

play04:16

In the same way that when you look at the full moon

play04:19

you don't have to crowd each other.

play04:20

You don't have to push anyone away.

play04:22

Everyone sees the full moon clearly.

play04:24

Likewise, everyone in Jannah will look up

play04:27

and they will see Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala

play04:29

and Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala

play04:30

will address everyone directly.

play04:32

So this is one theme of the gatherings

play04:35

and the furniture of al-Jannah that you sit

play04:37

on something that represents your rank

play04:40

with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

play04:42

And then ibn al Qayyim rahimahullah he says

play04:43

the description of the cushions

play04:45

and carpets being lined up and spread

play04:49

shows that they are always available

play04:51

for you to recline and sit on them.

play04:54

And they're never hidden

play04:55

and they're never taken away from you.

play04:57

They're never put away.

play04:58

And if you think about, you know

play04:59

if you go to a resort in this life

play05:01

they always put the beach chairs away at some point, right?

play05:04

They always put the furniture away.

play05:06

But the idea of all of these couches, all of these thrones

play05:10

all of these places to relax, always being out there

play05:14

shows you that in Jannah

play05:16

you can do whatever you want, whenever you want.

play05:19

And so this represents this theme of relaxation

play05:23

but as we said, when we relax, we're in conversation.

play05:26

And the best type of conversation is

play05:29

when we are in glory with one another.

play05:31

So Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala mentions to us

play05:34

this glorious gathering when generations come together.

play05:39

So Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says,

play05:40

Thullatum minal awwaleen Wa qaleelum minal aakhireen

play05:44

'Alaa sururim mawdoonah Muttaki-eena 'alayhaa mutaqaabileen

play05:49

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la says, "Imagine this gathering."

play05:51

You have a multitude of those from the first generations

play05:55

those who embraced Islam first.

play05:57

And then you have a few of those who

play05:59

came from the later generations

play06:01

and they're all sitting on thrones that are woven

play06:04

with these precious stones and gold, and they're reclining

play06:08

on these thrones together face-to-face.

play06:11

Think about being in a gathering where

play06:13

you're sitting with Sahaabah,

play06:15

where you're sitting with Taabi'een,

play06:17

where you're sitting with great people

play06:18

that have come before you.

play06:20

And while the majority that would be

play06:21

in that particular gathering would be

play06:24

from the earlier generations

play06:25

there would be some of those that came later on

play06:27

but that follow them in righteousness.

play06:29

And you're sitting around and you're having conversations

play06:32

and you're talking about what happened

play06:34

in your generation versus their generation.

play06:37

You're clarifying moments of history with them.

play06:39

But you're all on the same thrones facing one another

play06:43

as brothers, as equals who love each other for the sake

play06:46

of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and who are now

play06:48

enjoying the bliss from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala together.

play06:51

So that's one category.

play06:52

Then you have those who forgave each other.

play06:54

And Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala mentions

play06:56

Wa naza'naa maa fee sudoorihim min ghillin

play06:58

ikhwaanan 'alaa sururim mutaqaabileen

play07:01

They are the people who we said Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala

play07:03

removes from their chest, any type of injury

play07:06

any type of harm that they had towards one another.

play07:09

And now they are brothers facing each other on thrones.

play07:13

And so, people that forgave each other

play07:16

for the sake of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala

play07:18

And SubanAllah forgiveness, raises ranks.

play07:22

So you're higher in Jannah because you forgave someone.

play07:26

And this is something that's very special

play07:28

because we know that the Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam

play07:30

spoke about people that loved one another

play07:32

for the sake of Allah, and those that loved one another

play07:35

for the sake of Allah are even higher

play07:37

than those who forgave one another for the sake of Allah.

play07:40

So when Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala

play07:41

talks about those who forgave one another

play07:43

for the sake of Allah, they're on thrones that are elevated.

play07:47

But when Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala talks about those who

play07:50

love one another for the sake of Allah

play07:53

they are on these pulpits of lights that look

play07:56

like stars even to those that are on the thrones.

play07:59

And I want you to think about this.

play08:01

Ka'b radiAllahu ta'ala 'Anhu

play08:03

He said that the people that love each other for the sake

play08:05

of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,

play08:07

they're so high in the ghuraf,

play08:09

they're so high in these rooms and these platforms

play08:12

of light in Jannah, just as they were on the day

play08:15

of judgment, that people in the lower parts of Jannah,

play08:19

they see these shining stars, and they comment,

play08:21

Haadhaa rajul minal mutahaabbeena fillah

play08:24

This must be one of those people who loves someone else

play08:27

for the sake of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

play08:29

Think about the way that those people were

play08:33

on pulpits of light, on the day of judgment

play08:35

and they were admired even by the prophets and the martyrs.

play08:38

And now, they're admired by the entirety

play08:41

of Jannah for loving one another for the sake of Allah

play08:44

And they have furniture that can't even

play08:46

be seen by other people in Jannah.

play08:48

So how many people do you love for Allah that are

play08:52

from the shining stars of the earlier generations?

play08:55

And how will you be a star for generations after you

play08:59

to follow in your example?
