💡ADHD

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. In the video, ADHD is the central theme, as the speaker discusses a new way of thinking about ADHD and transforming it from the inside out. The script mentions a 12-year-old girl with an ADHD diagnosis who struggles with social and academic challenges.

💡Clouded Mind

The term 'clouded mind' is used metaphorically in the script to describe a state of mind where one is unable to focus or pay attention, as if surrounded by a dark, dense cloud. It is a key concept in the video, illustrating the cognitive experience of the girl with ADHD, who feels enveloped by a cloud that obstructs her ability to hear and engage in the classroom.

💡Metaphor

A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn't literally true but helps explain an idea or make a comparison. In the video, the 'cloud' is a metaphor for the cognitive fog experienced by individuals with ADHD. The speaker uses this metaphor to help the girl transform her understanding of her ADHD and improve her focus.

💡Externalization

Externalization refers to the process of expressing or making known one's thoughts or feelings. In the context of the video, the speaker uses externalization by encouraging the girl to describe her 'clouded mind' in detail, which helps bring her subconscious thoughts into her conscious mind where they can be addressed and transformed.

💡Cognitive Functions

Cognitive functions are the mental processes that involve the way people think, perceive, remember, learn, and problem-solve. The video discusses the transformation of cognitive functions in individuals with ADHD, particularly focusing on how the girl's 'clouded mind' metaphor can be altered to improve her cognitive abilities and overall functioning.

play00:08

hey there

play00:09

Anders from transforming ADHD here

play00:12

thanks for watching the transforming

play00:15

ADHD YouTube channel if you're watching

play00:18

it on the on home page

play00:19

welcome to transforming ADHD calm in

play00:23

this video I'd like to introduce you to

play00:25

a new thing a new way of thinking about

play00:28

a DD and having a clouded mind so a lot

play00:35

of I or some of my clients with the a DD

play00:38

diagnosis without the hyperactivity are

play00:42

the type of child or teenager that kind

play00:46

of hides in the back of the room is not

play00:49

very academically progressive if you

play00:53

will or and they're kind of socially

play00:57

isolated because they're kind of walking

play01:00

around in their own world or just not

play01:02

paying attention to much of what's going

play01:04

on around them now the girl I'd like to

play01:08

talk about today it was a 12 year old

play01:11

girl and she had the AVD diagnosis she

play01:15

had a lot of problems socially she had a

play01:17

lot of problems in school mostly in

play01:20

school because as she said when she was

play01:24

in her seat in class she kind of wasn't

play01:28

there she kind of couldn't really hear

play01:32

the teacher but she couldn't hear the

play01:35

teacher when she was in the front row so

play01:36

back of the back of the class did

play01:38

certainly didn't help or anything but

play01:41

her hearing didn't didn't nothing was

play01:44

wrong with her hearing nothing her was

play01:47

wrong with her physiologically so I

play01:51

wanted to talk to her about like what

play01:54

was her experience and now we're moving

play01:57

into the whole externalization theme of

play02:01

using a metaphor to describe the

play02:04

cognitive process of what's going on

play02:06

inside of her

play02:07

if you've seen any of my other videos

play02:09

you'll know that this is a big theme for

play02:11

me and this is how you can transform

play02:14

ADHD from the inside out now this girl

play02:18

described that when she was in the

play02:21

classroom it was like she was inside a

play02:24

cloud

play02:25

now this cloud when I asked her to

play02:28

describe the cloud was very dark very

play02:31

humid and all around her head like in a

play02:37

two meters six feet radius around her

play02:42

head and inside of her head so a clouded

play02:46

mind is really what that is the metaphor

play02:49

for that is really powerful because you

play02:52

if you imagine that that is a real

play02:54

experience which of course it is for her

play02:57

if you imagine that that's a real

play02:59

experience sitting in the back of the

play03:01

room with a cloud around your head and

play03:04

inside your mound your mind you can't

play03:07

really think much you can't really do

play03:10

anything you can't really hear much you

play03:13

can't see much nothing is going on and

play03:16

you might as well just let your mind

play03:17

wander if that's the experience you have

play03:20

you will be socially isolated you will

play03:25

be academically in a bad place right so

play03:31

in order to help this girl we need to

play03:34

work with the metaphor because the cloud

play03:37

obviously wasn't real it's not a

play03:39

physical cloud in the real universe it's

play03:42

a cloud inside that mental parallel

play03:46

universe where all our cognitive

play03:49

functions lie so in order to kind of

play03:55

help her transform this cloud into

play03:57

something else we needed to put a lot of

play04:01

words on that cloud around it to

play04:06

describe it in detail what happens when

play04:08

you describe things in detail is that

play04:10

they are kind of dragged out of the

play04:13

subconscious mind and into the conscious

play04:16

mind

play04:16

where you can transform them really

play04:19

easily so well what I did with the girl

play04:24

was have her describe the D the the the

play04:28

cloud in detail like I already explained

play04:30

to you if you want to do this process

play04:33

with yourself close your eyes

play04:35

leave your eyes open however you want it

play04:38

then imagine how big is that cloud of

play04:42

yours if you're talking to your child

play04:44

just ask if the child mentions a cloud

play04:47

or if you ask do you have a cloud

play04:50

clouded mind if they say yes go with

play04:53

that metaphor they say no it's not the

play04:55

right metaphor leave it if you have it

play04:59

that metaphor to use of your mind now

play05:03

describe in your mind are allowed if

play05:06

you're alone or and with somebody who's

play05:09

listening to this video with you

play05:10

describe what the cloud is like where is

play05:15

it how how thick is it how how high is

play05:18

it how what is it it's reach does it go

play05:21

inside your mind what does it do in

play05:23

there and so on you can even describe

play05:26

the temperature that feel the texture

play05:28

everything around about it now when

play05:32

you've done that imagine how you would

play05:36

like that cloud to be instead when I

play05:41

asked the girl about this she said well

play05:44

right now I have the cloud kind of close

play05:47

in and inside of me but really it's not

play05:51

very uncomfortable the cloud so if I

play05:54

could just kind of create a space inside

play05:57

of that cloud then that would be a

play06:01

really good focus zone to kind of leave

play06:04

out all the defocusing things that were

play06:09

going on in her classroom so what she

play06:11

did was kind of imagine that the cloud

play06:14

turn lighter white it's a really white

play06:17

and fluffy like a really nice summer

play06:20

cloud and then have it go on the outside

play06:24

of the teacher obviously and the

play06:26

blackboard or the or the board

play06:29

in the front of her so that she could

play06:31

see what was going on in front of her

play06:33

and then kind of going around her back

play06:36

so that her head was clear and she had

play06:39

free access to whatever the teacher was

play06:41

doing that way she minimized all the the

play06:46

defocusing noises around her and she

play06:49

still had or she turned what was a

play06:52

really problematic cognitive function or

play06:55

pattern into a really really effective

play06:59

cognitive pattern in a matter of minutes

play07:02

so now ask yourself if you have a cloud

play07:05

like that what would you like to do with

play07:06

it her her her solution may not be the

play07:11

right one for you which one would be the

play07:14

right one for you and if you do create

play07:16

that space or some kind of space around

play07:18

you or if you let the cloud to solve or

play07:21

if you let the cloud become something

play07:23

else entirely it's up to you figure out

play07:27

what you need and then imagine that you

play07:29

can actually do that and allow it to

play07:33

happen because when you do that you'll

play07:37

realize that the pattern that was

play07:39

obstructing you really can be turned

play07:43

into something really powerful for you

play07:45

and that's what I mean when I talk about

play07:48

transforming ADHD from the inside out

play07:51

of course this isn't just about ADHD

play07:53

it's everybody who can benefit from this

play07:56

but it turns out that most people with

play07:59

the ADHD diagnosis can really benefit

play08:02

from this approach because it has such

play08:04

power and it's fast and you don't have

play08:09

to fight to kind of keep it as it is

play08:14

this girl didn't have to remember like

play08:17

every time I have the dark cloud what

play08:19

get what is it that I'm meant to do then

play08:21

because from now on she has the white

play08:24

cloud why would why would she

play08:27

cognitively change that back no reason

play08:30

so

play08:32

so she changed it once and for all and

play08:35

that changes her thinking I thought

play08:38

patterns or cognitive processes from

play08:41

this day on in those situations and she

play08:44

has a lot easier time focusing

play08:47

concentrating listening paying attention

play08:50

and noticing what's going on around her

play08:54

which also has or had great impact on

play08:57

her social abilities now she'd still

play09:01

have to learn to socialize in a new way

play09:04

because she was it she approached people

play09:06

in a different way and they were able to

play09:08

get feedback from her when she when they

play09:11

approached her

play09:12

so not cured by any means but certainly

play09:16

a significant step of the way

play09:20

towards having a fully functional ADHD

play09:25

mind with all the powers that come with

play09:27

it so transforming the cognitive

play09:33

processes from the inside out is such an

play09:37

awesome process and I hope you had fun

play09:38

with this I hope you had a revelation or

play09:42

a kind of an insight into your own mind

play09:44

or into your child's mind if you have a

play09:49

child if you have a any kind of child

play09:52

really but a teenager with the ABP or

play09:56

ADHD diagnosis show them this video let

play09:59

them know that there is hope for them

play10:02

that there are there are endless

play10:04

possibilities of transformation inside

their minds then or even before that
