In the video, dreams play a crucial role in the narrative. The protagonist, Yusuf, has the ability to interpret dreams, which is a gift from Allah. Dreams are depicted as symbolic and prophetic, guiding the actions and fate of characters. For instance, the king's dream of seven fat cows being eaten by seven thin cows and seven green stalks of grain being replaced by seven dry ones foretells seven years of abundance followed by seven years of famine.

Yusuf's foresight and wisdom in managing resources during the seven abundant years ensure that Egypt and the surrounding regions are prepared for the impending hardship.

💡Prison

Yusuf's time in prison is a critical part of his journey. He is imprisoned unjustly after refusing the advances of the minister's wife. Prophet Yusuf - Part 2 - The Dream Comes True This story has been taken from Tafsir Ibn Kathir

play00:46

and has been reviewed for authenticity  by Luqmay’s Shariah Advisory Board.

play01:00

The prison cell was dark and musty. Yusuf was here because he had refused

play01:07

to obey the Minister’s wife. She had wanted him to be

play01:11

unfaithful to the minister and to Allah. Two other men also entered the prison with him.

play01:18

One of them was the cupbearer  responsible for the King’s drinks

play01:23

and the other one was the royal baker. The two men had had strange dreams.

play01:30

“Can you please tell us what these dreams mean?” they asked Yusuf.

play01:36

Yusuf knew the meaning of dreams because  Allah had given him that special knowledge.

play01:42

He understood that one of  them was in GRAVE danger.

play01:46

But before telling them about the  dreams he told them about Allah.

play01:52

“It is Allah, my Lord, who taught  me how to interpret dreams.”

play01:57

“My fellow-prisoners! Which is better:

play02:00

many different lords or Allah—the  One, the Supreme?” He asked them

play02:05

and invited them to worship Allah alone. “ One of you will present the king with

play02:11

wine to drink. As for the other...  he will be killed.” Yusuf told them.

play02:16

“Oh!” “hmmmm...”

play02:21

“Tell your king about me when you get  freed,” Yusuf said to the cupbearer.

play02:26

Soon, the two men went to court. Just as Yusuf  had said, one of them was killed in punishment

play02:34

and the other went back to serve the king. Hum! Hum! Hum!

play02:42

Hey! Don’t stand there watching.  Get going with your work.

play02:46

Ah! Time for the King’s morning drink.

play02:57

The cupbearer met the King everyday. He had the chance to tell the

play03:02

King about noble Yusuf. But Shaitan made him forget.

play03:07

Days turned into months and  months turned into years.

play03:12

And Yusuf stayed in prison... His family didn’t even know where he was,

play03:19

who could help him now?

play03:22

But Yusuf knew Allah was with him and he  kept praying to Allah without losing hope.

play03:35

Ladies and gentlemen, please behold!  His majesty, the King of Egypt!

play03:43

My dear princes, respectable priests

play03:46

and honorable chiefs. I have gathered  you here for an important matter.

play03:54

Today, I had a strange dream. I saw seven  fat cows and seven thin cows. And the thin

play04:02

cows ate the fat cows. And I saw seven  green stalks of grain and seven dry ones.

play04:11

I am completely baffled by this dream. Do any of you know how to interpret dreams?

play04:20

The king is out of his mind! What nonsense!

play04:24

Cows and grains! I always said  he was unfit to be the king.

play04:30

“Please accept our apologies, my majesty. These  seem like mixed up dreams. We do not know the

play04:37

meaning of such dreams I’m afraid.” Hmmmm...

play04:41

The king was disappointed. He knew in his heart that

play04:46

this dream was a different one. But alas! There was nobody who could

play04:51

tell him what it meant.

play04:58

“I remember! I know just the person! Just let me  go and visit Yusuf in the prisons, Your majesty.

play05:06

He’ll know what your dream means.”

play05:13

Yusuf! You truthful man! So good to see you! I’m here about the King’s dream actually.

play05:22

The King saw seven fat cows being eaten  by seven thin cows and seven green stalks

play05:25

of grain and seven dry ones. Please tell me what this means

play05:29

so I can go and inform him. What a strange dream it was!

play05:34

But Allah had given Yusuf special knowledge  and Yusuf immediately knew what it meant.

play05:41

“For seven years there will be great harvest,  rain and lots of food but then for seven years

play05:47

there will be a famine, you will not  have rain or any harvest.” said Yusuf

play05:54

The cupbearer hurried to the king  and told him what Yusuf had said.

play05:59

The king was impressed. Go and bring this man to me!

play06:06

His Majesty the king wants  you to come and meet him.

play06:11

What an honour! He’s going to be free at last.

play06:16

This man deserves it! But Yusuf replied,

play06:21

“Go back to your King and ask  him about the case of the woman.”

play06:26

“Your Majesty! Very strange man, that Yusuf! He  has refused to come! He wants you to investigate

play06:33

the matter of the woman who sent him to prison. Hmmm..very well, very well.

play06:43

Out with the truth ladies, what  was this matter with Yusuf?

play06:47

What did he do? He is innocent, your Majesty!

play06:52

He didn’t do anything.

play06:56

I must confess.I am the one to blame. I wanted him to be disloyal

play07:01

to the minister, but he was not. That settles the matter! Go and bring Yusuf

play07:07

to me. And tell him he is clear of all charges! I’ll appoint him as my close advisor.

play07:19

After living many years in  the cold and damp dungeons,

play07:24

finally, Yusuf was able to breath in  the fresh air and enjoy the sun’s light.

play07:31

When the king talked to Yusuf, he was even more  impressed, because Yusuf was extremely wise

play07:39

and knowledgeable. From now on Yusuf

play07:42

has my complete trust and favour. Yusuf asked the King to appoint

play07:47

him as the treasurer so he could manage  the store houses and the grain properly.

play07:54

The king agreed. And so, Yusuf ended up

play07:58

becoming a high ranked minister in Egypt. But what of his family?

play08:04

Was his father alive? Would he ever see them again?

play08:13

The seven good years passed by. Yusuf  looked over the crops and made sure they

play08:18

were distributed properly so they could  last in the next seven years of drought.

play08:24

Then came the seven difficult years.

play08:28

The drought affected Egypt  and all the surrounding lands.

play08:33

Yaqub and his sons lived in nearby  Kan’aan and they too had no food now.

play08:40

They heard about the righteous treasurer of  Egypt who was giving away grain for a low price.

play08:48

The brothers took some money from their  land and left for Egypt to buy grain.

play08:54

But Yaqub kept Bin Yameen, the youngest brother,  with him because Bin Yameen reminded him of Yusuf.

play09:08

When the brothers came to Yusuf  he recognized them at once.

play09:13

But his brothers had no idea who he was! Yusuf gave them their supplies and asked them

play09:20

to bring their youngest brother next time. “Don’t you see I’m the best of hosts?

play09:26

If you don’t bring him next time, I  will have no grain for you.” said Yusuf

play09:31

“We’ll try to convince his father to let him  come. We’ll try our best.” the brothers replied.

play09:37

Yusuf told his servant to secretly  put their money back in their bags.

play09:43

He feared they had no more money  to bring back a second time.

play09:49

“Dad! The minister has refused to give us more  grain if we don’t take Bin Yameen with us.

play09:54

Do send him next time. We’ll take care of  him.” the brothers said to their father.

play10:00

Should I trust you like I did  with Yusuf before?” said Yaqub.

play10:05

Then the brothers unpacked their  bags and found their money in it.

play10:10

“Dad! What else could we ask for! The  minister gave us back our money!” they said

play10:16

“Now we can buy more food for our family. We’ll

play10:18

watch over our brother and get  an extra camel-load of grain.”

play10:23

“I will never send him with you, not  until you swear by Allah that you will

play10:26

bring him back to me ” said Yaqub The brothers gave their promise and

play10:32

were soon back in Egypt along with Bin Yameen. Yusuf was pleased to see his brother Bin Yameen.

play10:41

“I am your brother, Yusuf.” he told him, “Don’t  be sad because of what they’ve been doing!”

play10:47

Yusuf wanted to keep his  brother in Egypt with him.

play10:51

But how could he do that?

play10:54

Yusuf thought of a plan and slipped  the cup into Bin Yameen’s bag.

play11:03

Hey you! You’re thieves! “What have you lost?” asked the brothers

play11:08

“The king’s precious cup! It’s missing! “We didn’t come here to make trouble.”

play11:14

replied the brothers. “We’re no thieves!”

play11:17

“What if you’re lying? What  punishment should we give you?”

play11:22

“Whoever has the cup in his bag, you can  take him as a slave. That’s how we punish

play11:26

the wrong doers in our land.” said the brothers Fine then! Our minister will inspect your bags.

play11:33

Yusuf searched their bags, and the  cup was found in Bin Yameen’s bag.

play11:40

“No surprise he’s a thief! His brother  Yusuf was a thief too.” said the brothers

play11:45

Yusuf knew they were lying. But he kept quiet. “Kind Minister! Please take one of us in

play11:52

his place.” The brothers requested Yusuf. They were thinking about their promise to Yaqub

play11:58

about bringing Bin Yameen back safely. But Yusuf refused.

play12:09

“Dad! Your son has stolen! You can ask the people of the caravan

play12:14

and even the people of that city! We are telling the truth.

play12:19

Your souls have made you do an  evil act. But I’ll be patient.

play12:24

Allah will bring them back to me.” said Yaqub. Yaqub missed Yousuf and Bin Yameen a lot. He

play12:32

would cry so much for them that he became blind. “You’re going to ruin your health or even die

play12:40

if you keep thinking of Yusuf like  this!” the brothers said to Yaqub.

play12:44

I only complain of my sorrow to Allah. I know  something from Allah that you don’t.” he replied.

play12:52

“My sons! go and look for Yusuf and  his brother. Don’t lose hope in Allah.”

play12:59

“Minister! Our family is  going through a rough time.

play13:03

We have brought very little money, but please  give us more grain.” the brothers requested Yusuf.

play13:10

“Do you know what you did to Yusuf and  his brother in your ignorance?” said Yusuf

play13:16

“Are you Yusuf?!” they exclaimed “Yes. I am Yusuf, and this is my brother.

play13:23

Allah has been very kind to us.” said Yusuf The brothers admitted they had been wrong.

play13:30

Yusuf had power and he could  punish them in any way he wanted.

play13:36

But Yusuf….forgave them. “May Allah forgive you.” he said. “Take this

play13:44

shirt of mine and put it over dad’s  face. He'll get his eyesight back.

play13:50

Then bring your whole family to me.’ “You may think it’s because of old age,

play13:56

but I can actually smell Yusuf!” said Yaqub. You’re just lost in that old error of yours!”

play14:04

The brothers came back to their father with the  good news and put Yusuf’s shirt on his face.

play14:12

“Didn’t I tell you I knew something from  Allah that you didn’t know!” said Yaqub.

play14:19

Welcome to Egypt,” said Yusuf to his family. He brought his parents to the throne

play14:26

and they all prostrated to him. “Dad! This is the explanation of the dream that

play14:32

I had! Allah has made it a reality.” said Yusuf. He then thanked Allah and made dua to him.
