having come from Boulder Colorado in
anticipation of this time
and it's my pleasure to share my work
with you and to have a continuation of
the seminars and conferences that I
offered in Kyoto and now in Tokyo
so this is an opportunity for me to
remind myself as well as all nurse
Educators and nursing clinicians and
practitioners
that theory is really essential to guide
our practice and it's very important in
the clinical practice world that we are
Guided by something beyond the economics
and Beyond the industrial technical
models of of tasks and procedures this
is an opportunity for nursing to be
informed by its moral and ethical
Foundation its philosophy and values
toward humanity and sustaining human
caring so my theory
is really related to helping you to see
your practice differently to help you to
be in a different way with your patients
and with yourselves and with your
colleagues so my theory is referred to
as the theory of human caring it's
sometimes referred to as a theory of
transpersonal caring because it takes
place in the moments with you and
another human being or a family
or even a colleague it's also related to
a model of caring science that helps us
to advance our practice and really
fulfill our mission so in some ways my
work is giving you permission to
practice nursing in the fullest way of
what you love and what has called you
into this very ancient and Noble
profession so it's my privilege to be
here with you in Japan offering these
series of videos to help you better
understand the theory but also how to
live it out in your personal and
professional life because underneath the
theory is really you you become the
theory you become the starting point by
beginning to engage in self-caring and
self-knowledge and really advancing
knowledge about human carry that we can
no longer take for granted so this is my
