TLDRThis video offers in-depth tips and tricks for DoorDash drivers in 2024, focusing on maximizing earnings through understanding supply and demand, leveraging promotional pay, and strategically selecting orders based on dollar-to-mile ratios. It covers various order types, including food delivery, shop and deliver, and grocery shopping, while highlighting the importance of knowing market hotspots and utilizing the app's scheduling and Peak Pay features. The script also discusses the potential impact of market saturation and the introduction of new features on drivers' income.
Takeaways
- 📍 Understand the submarket dynamics: Different areas within a market can have varying levels of demand and activity, affecting the potential earnings for a Dasher.
- 🏙️ Consider city center vs. suburbs: City centers tend to have more 'power strips' (busy areas with high demand), but suburbs might require more driving and potentially less dense opportunities.
- 📅 Schedule shifts wisely: Being flexible with scheduling can help capitalize on peak times and bonuses, but also be prepared to adjust plans if necessary.
- 💰 Prioritize promotional pay: Promotional pay, including peak pay, can significantly boost earnings and should be a major consideration when choosing when and where to dash.
- 🚗 Monitor supply and demand: Supply and demand greatly influence earnings. Being aware of when there are more orders than Dashers (or vice versa) can help maximize income.
- 💼 Evaluate dollar-to-mile and dollar-to-time ratios: These ratios are crucial for assessing the value of an order, considering both the distance traveled and the time spent on each delivery.
- 🛍️ Be selective with order types: Different order types (like standard food delivery, stacked orders, or shop and deliver) have different pay structures and requirements, affecting overall efficiency and earnings.
- 🏢 Know your power strips: Familiarize yourself with areas dense with restaurants and high demand, as these can be key to securing more orders and better pay.
- 🚛 Consider multi-app driving: Diversifying by using multiple delivery apps can provide more opportunities and potentially higher earnings, depending on the market conditions.
- ⏰ Keep an eye on peak pay trends: Regularly checking peak pay offerings can help identify the best times to dash, especially as these can change frequently and affect overall earnings.
Q & A
What is the main focus of the video script?
-The main focus of the video script is to provide tips and tricks for DoorDash drivers to maximize their earnings in 2024, including understanding the platform's interface, knowing the best times and areas to work, and being aware of different order types and their potential earnings.
How does the script suggest drivers determine the best areas to work in their marketplace?
-The script suggests drivers identify 'power strips' or areas dense with restaurants and busy locations within their submarketplaces. Drivers should consider the density and demand of these areas, as well as their own knowledge of the local market, to determine the best areas to work.
What does the script mean by 'Peak pay'?
-'Peak pay' refers to a per-delivery bonus offered by DoorDash during specific busy times, which can significantly increase a driver's earnings. The script advises drivers to be aware of when these peak pay periods occur and to schedule their work around them when possible.
How can drivers use the 'Dash now' and 'Schedule' features to their advantage?
-Drivers can use the 'Dash now' feature to start working immediately during busy times, while the 'Schedule' feature allows them to plan their work in advance. The script suggests that drivers should be flexible with these features, adjusting their work schedule based on demand and peak pay opportunities.
What is the significance of the 'dollar to mile' ratio mentioned in the script?
-The 'dollar to mile' ratio is a measure of vehicle efficiency, indicating how much a driver is paid per mile driven. The script emphasizes that drivers should aim for a ratio of at least $1.75 per mile to ensure they are making a reasonable profit after accounting for vehicle operating costs.
How does the script define 'stacked orders' and why are they beneficial?
-Stacked orders are multiple assignments given to one driver at a time. They can be beneficial because they increase the potential earnings for a single trip, as the driver can complete multiple deliveries in one go.
What are 'shop and deliver' orders and how do they differ from standard food deliveries?
-'Shop and deliver' orders involve the driver shopping for items, typically at a store like CVS or a grocery store, and then delivering them to the customer. This differs from standard food deliveries where the driver picks up a prepared order from a restaurant.
What is the 'add-on order' mentioned in the script and how does it work?
-An 'add-on order' is an additional order that a driver can accept while already on an assignment. It provides extra cash flow for the driver without significantly altering their current route or delivery schedule.
How does the script advise drivers to handle the potential for lower tips while on 'earn by time'?
-The script advises drivers to be aware that when working on 'earn by time', tips may be lower. It suggests that drivers should weigh the benefits of the hourly rate against the potential for fewer tips and make decisions based on their specific situation and the market conditions.
What new features or order types does the script predict we might see more of in 2024?
-The script predicts that in 2024, we might see more new features and order types, such as grocery shopping, convenience store deliveries, and alcohol deliveries, as DoorDash focuses on expanding into new verticals.

what are the actual best door Dash
Dasher tips and tricks in
2024 as someone who's driven part-time
and full-time I've done this in
different marketplaces and I've
researched this company for years let me
show you in this video without wasting
your time what actually works here on
each different screen so you can
actually start making more money so
first let's look at this home screen
here and our current locations indicated
by this blue dot now your entire
Marketplace is broken into different
segments here and that's different than
Uber Eats and GrubHub now look it as I
click on different submarket places
we'll call it now I'm in the Pittsburgh
Pennsylvania market for context so it'll
say PA Moville PA Fox Chapel just
different subm marketplaces so you have
to think where are you in the sub
Marketplace and how busy do you really
think it's going to be are you in the
city center like I am here are you in
the suburbs and just think about the
restaurants like you know literally your
Marketplace best probably better than
door dash for Hest here and you know
where are the customers where are all
the plazas or restaurants we call just
general areas that are busy with a lot
of opportunities power strips so what do
you think the power strips are and start
to get an idea of how busy do you think
it's going to be now keep in mind if
you're driving in the suburbs versus the
city it stands the reason you're
probably going to drive farther just
because of these spread out Marketplace
and generally there's probably going to
be less power strips it's not going to
be as dense right as your city now note
here how it says schedule so if it was
busy enough and I could start dashing
they call it going online immediately
instead of schedule it'll say Dash now
now anecdotally and for comparison
comment down below if you're already
dashing here I feel like I've been
seeing slightly less availability of
Dash now so if you don't see Dash now
that means a few things either it's not
busy enough just with orders they have
enough Dashers already online and or
scheduling or of course it can be a
combination of those two so what you can
do is you can schedule a shift and you
can schedule ahead of time or just later
in that same day or you could just leave
that app open because let's say enough
Dashers go offline and or order start to
spike and it gets busy then you'll see
that sub Marketplace basically light up
red that indicates that it's busy and
here are the different segments of how
door Dash measures a busy marketplace
now keep in mind there's other times
where I've wanted to dash now just start
delivering and I can't so it just sits
like this it's gray and it never says
Dash now now why is that so there could
be good Peak pay that's a per delivery
bonus or other kind of bonus pay going
on or people know it's going to be busy
other Dashers I should say so it never
gets slow enough or at least an
imbalance of supply and demand to give
you an opportunity to dash now now I
prefer Dash now just cuz I don't always
know exactly when I want to Dash and
things come up now well actually let's
take a look at these schedule in here
because you can schedule something again
later in the week or even the current
day so if I go in here if I just click
on one okay then it gives us a
recommended start and end time but you
can go in here and actually edit this as
well now what I've tried if it says
let's say 400 p.m. right and let's say
it's what it's 3:10 you can see the time
of filming this at the top left there if
I wanted to dash like 3:30 try to get
online sooner than that so I don't have
to wait until 4: sometimes I'll try to
turn these times back now if it's gray
out it's not going to let you do it but
if it's not grayed out sometimes it'll
let you do it and go online a little bit
sooner and that can be good because
let's say there's current Peak pay of
like $3 that $3 extra per delivery and
again in this example at least is 3:10
p.m. I want to go online as soon as
possible because I'm free now and I want
to take advantage of that Peak pay let's
say the peak pay was from 3:00 p.m.
until 5:00 p.m. so I'm free and I want a
dash now now any scheduled dashes will
show up here now keep in mind if you add
a dash at least at the time of filming
this video there's no penalty to edits
or just completely delete that Dash so
I've had it actually where I've
scheduled a dash let's say 2: p.m. and
something comes up or my plans run over
and I realize like oh it's like 1:50
p.m. I'm scheduled to Dash and your
phone you know the door Dash Apple send
your reminders if you can't do it you
can just delete your dash so let's go
back to our home screen here and talk
about arguably I'd say the most
important thing that's going to
determine how much money you're going to
make yes supply and demand certainly we
talk about positioning we talk about
knowing those power strips but door
Dash's pay it's their contribution the
base pay plus promotional pay plus the
customer tips you always get 100% of
customer tips but that promotional pay
in my opinion it's the most important
thing for you so if you click up here in
the promot tab we're going to see all
current active promotions so that
submarket remember your Marketplace
broken down in a different submarket
places so for me it's this downtown
Pittsburgh market so it says today 5:30
p.m. until 7:29 p.m. there's that Peak
pay the per delivery bonus so $2 at this
time $2 at 11:30 p.m. Etc now you can
actually click on this and you can
schedule your dash based on that Peak
pay so if you feel like your Marketplace
is really competitive and you find
rarely you can actually Dash now
whenever you want you might want to do
this if you're free and especially on
the peak pay it could be a much better
time than driving without any bonus pay
now keep in mind of course there's no
guarantee that driving on Peak pay
especially like the top 85 100% offered
Peak pay in your Marketplace is going to
make you the most money what I mean by
that is let's say your Marketplace like
maxes out that per delivery bonus Peak
pay at let's say $5 that's a lot even $4
is a good amount so if you see hey
there's $4 Peak pay tonight I'm going to
sign up and drive on $4 Peak pay and
especially if you drive in a different
subm Marketplace there's no guarantee
that that plus $4 is going to make you
like 30 35 Plus an hour and be better
than a shift in your current normal subm
Marketplace at like $2 Peak pay so
you're going to have to weigh the pros
and cons of that because I love you know
you're going to love it too $4 $3 Peak
pay it sounds really good and well one
you're going to have to track your
numbers we have some resources on your
dm.com spreadsheets Etc so you can track
some of that but that three $4 whatever
it is that Max Peak pay which means
that's typically the highest peak pay
that you see just be wary of that and
always signing up when there's maximum
Peak pay again sometimes it'll make you
more money but sometimes it won't so
you're going to have to track that and I
would keep in on that Peak pay because
door Dash and Uber both so Uber in this
case have talked about tapering or
lowering the peak pay and we've been
seeing that in 2023 and unfortunately I
think that's going to continue into 2024
you're going to have to manage how much
Peak pay if any by the way is being
offered when is it being offered and how
is like the supply and demand during
that day it's a Sunday and they're
offering $2 how is that different than
the same subm Marketplace on a THS THS
and Friday and then remember those power
strips so door Das is going to give you
suggestions of their hotpots they call
it basically the same thing as a power
strip they have both current live demand
you know high demand hotspots and then
they have historical hotspots I'm going
to tell you that you also need to know
your own again we call it power strips
areas that are really dense with
restaurants because you should know
ahead of time just knowing that some
Marketplace like well I know this strip
has a ton of restaurants and even though
it's not currently highlighted as a
Hotpot on door Dash I'm going to wait
over there because I'm going to set
myself up for orders speaking of let's
look at orders here and I'm going to
show you a few examples and just my best
strategy for you in 2024 of how to
handle and kind of look at all these so
here's an example of your standard food
delivery basic single pickup single drop
request here $16 25 cents you can see
guaranteed including customer tip now
with a lot of this it can vary based on
Market so maybe you won't C includes
expected tip maybe it'll say Plus
customer tip or maybe it won't say that
at all and certainly some of this stuff
changes there's different beta tests and
again things in different marketplaces
just want to give you heads up there but
it's always going to show you at least
some kind of pay here and the expected
miles from the pickup to the drop off
here so 8.1 miles so you have the time
here which is helpful cuz you can
consider all right it's what is it right
now 610 in this screenshot example and
they say deliver by $649 but I look at
first and I think you're going to look
at first like what's basically in the
biggest font is the expected pay but
that doesn't tell the whole story sure
1625 is great but we teach you the
dollar tomile ratio how much am I
getting paid for the miles driven
because that's a measure of vehicle
efficiency because it costs money
obviously to operate your vehicle so you
don't want to spend like basically the
same amount of money to operate the
vehicle that you're making because
you're not making any real money and
this stuff is $10.99 work so you got to
pay taxes on that make sure to set aside
at least 20% maybe 30% for taxes so our
goal for you is $1.75 paid off per mile
a rock bottom of what to accept is like
a $120 one to one I call it like a
dollar per mile it's just not enough in
my opinion you're kind of wasting your
time there now obviously if you can get
with bonus pay and centives Etc like $2
to $3 plus then that is a fantastic
shift if you can hover around 175 5 $2
$3 plus then that is a good Marketplace
to drive in so the cash flow or just
generally what you're earning here is
pretty good the dollar toile ratio it's
good but then I consider positioning in
any other problems so you can see the
shopping bag or starting destination and
then that house icon the ending
destination I don't typically drive up
there now there's a lot of power strips
up there it's just a different subm
Marketplace as well so if I got pulled
up there again a different sub
Marketplace door Das is going to tell
you again at least at the time I filming
this video like hey you should probably
get back to your currently scheduled
active subm Marketplace sometimes
they'll tell you you want to switch to
this different subm Marketplace and
that's going to be up to you can you
make as much money or better money in
this new area but keep in mind cuz it is
a different subm Marketplace it may have
different active bonus Bay now you also
want to consider any other problems we
talk about the dollars to time ratio how
much am I getting paid and how much time
is it really going to take in the real
world because yes these apps consider
like traffic delays expected wait times
kind of the norm there but also consider
your Real World Market expertise because
if I looked at this restaurant so we can
see Tall Grass burger here if I know
like well that place gives me problems
all the time that place is super popular
I can actually just think of a shift I
did at a Chinese restaurant that was
absolutely slammed on the holidays and I
knew that place gets really busy so if
you see a restaurant and you'll learn
this over time maybe fast food spots but
it doesn't even have to be fast food
spots if it's just a spot that like Park
in a pain I always have to wait and or
whatever they always mess up the order
just consider that as well now here's an
example of a stacked order it's two or
more assignments for one driver and
there's a lot of things going on here
which is good to see it's a good example
for you so 1950 10.1 mil think about
that dollar toile ratio it's not
fantastic right that's number one now
the positioning here it's taking me out
of the city center that subm Marketplace
that I really like to be in so just for
that kind of fact alone typically this
is something I would decline even though
the dollar to mile it's decent but
there's more here take a look here at
the pickups here there's two different
pickups now one is a food delivery it's
this piece of fiesta but this other
one's a different pickup type entirely
this is a shop and deliver so it's just
like it sounds you either shop for the
items like in this case with CVS here we
can see four items items or sometimes
albeit I've been seeing it less
frequently you'll put an actual order in
at a restaurant and you have to wait now
are one you know it's going to come up
shop and deliver you're going to pay
with the prepaid card that door Dash
gives you but something else to consider
and something I think you're going to
see more and more of in 2024 it's orders
going to the same customer it says both
orders go to the same customer now
that's not the worst because you don't
have to make another drop off it's going
to the same customer you're just going
to have to think again is it worth it
for that positioning the pay and then
any expected shop time as well that's
another thing with these Sho and
deliverers and you can have a standalone
shop and deliver it can just be one CVS
Walgreens r a whatever it is but imagine
it's like seven eight items and then
what happens if an items at a stock now
I'll tell you door Dash is getting
better and better of having preloaded
substitutions maybe one or two
substitutions so anything that helps you
keep that shop time going cuz when you
get into shopping apps like think about
groceries shipped in instacart that the
same rules apply dollars to mile but
dollars to time that time is going to
take becomes almost more important it
becomes a game of how many items do I
got to pick and how much am I getting
paid for it now here's an example of
what's called an add-on order looks a
little bit different but it's basically
the same thing as your standard order
here now it says plus $6 in this case
basically everything else is the same so
get this when you're already on an
assignment basically what I'm looking at
is simply cash flow an extra six bucks
for an additional in this case in
addition to the current route right 1.1
miles and I'm looking at that pickup
destination any problems so do I mind
six bucks for 1.1 miles but yes it's
going to be another stop I'm going to
have to make at in this case a
restaurant now sometimes especially if
you're new or if you meet certain
criteria you might get access to one of
door Dashers incentive programs so
there's top Dasher there's a Dasher
Rewards Beta program there is Priority
Access just kind of depends what your
Marketplace has but these give you
access to higher paying orders typically
orders that pay2 plus dollar a mile now
these can be quite good that's again as
described prior that's hitting our
dollar to mile metric so something like
this this is one of those orders that's
under one of those programs you can see
a high paying offer here
$629 2.7 mies so basically if you're
hitting these metrics if you have access
to the higher payment orders you
basically know that the dollar to mile
is going to be solid again2 plus dollar
a mile so look at positioning look at
the restaurant and you might be able to
be a little bit more picky with these
orders but keep in mind to keep access
on some of these programs you have to
hit certain acceptance rate criteria
okay now let's take a look at a grocery
shopping offer here from door Dash so in
this case
$19.75 now again see here it says
guaranteed it doesn't say guaranteed
plus tips doesn't say guaranteed
includes tips it just says guaranteed in
this example 1.8 mil a stellar dollar to
mile ratio this is fantastic but
remember this is a grocery shopping
offer here so let's see if that really
makes sense so this is from a Target
here we can see 11 items remember with
shop and deliver you're going to use
that prepaid red card so clearly dollars
to mile is Stellar here so basically the
only thing that I would really need to
think about is do I want to shop for 11
items at a Target here and do I think
it's going to be worth my time so they
say what deliver by 2:56 p.m. in this
example it's 2:12 p.m. at that kind of
margin at 1975 1.8 mil quoted at like 40
some minutes I feel like I can shop for
11 items pretty quickly so imagine it
takes you 40 minutes for this entire
thing you basically made 1975 guaranteed
maybe even more let's say maybe they're
not showing a customer tip on this one
and my goal for you is $25 an hour so if
you can do basically 20 bucks in 40
minutes all in then this would be a good
offer for you but think if this was like
$8 for 1.8 mil that's fine but $8
shopping for 11 items think about the
shop time now if it takes 40 minutes in
the Target and driving to the customer
all in right now it makes a lot less
sense because of the Pay Here's another
order type you're going to see these
Dash Mars so all that is is a door Dash
branded basically convenience store
stocking convenience items and just
locally sourced items in your
Marketplace so this one 850 4.6 mies not
too bad here but just to know what to
expect you're going to park you're going
to go in there it's going to basically
be an empty kind of Warehouse a room you
go in there you just say hey standard
pickup I have a pickup for so and so and
those Associates are going to pull all
the items for you so you don't have to
shop you don't got to do anything like
that they're going to pull all the items
for you very similar to gopuff as well
kind of a convenience-based Warehouse
platform and that's it you just pick up
the stuff and then you make your
delivery now there's other order types
like alcohol basically the same thing
though it's just a different procedure
so still look at the dollars to mile
dollars to time positioning pickup Bots
stuff like that but basically every
order type that I just showed you you
can basically do it by getting paid two
different ways now either the earn by
order or the earn by time method so earn
by order it's kind of the traditional
way that you think about it I get an
assignments now now it can be a stacked
order two or more assignments for one
driver sometimes you can get three
assignments at one time but all of that
you're getting paid by offer now with
earn by time you're getting paid by
active time so in your Dasher app you're
going to have dash time and you're going
to have active time dash time is just
when you're generally online so you're
online you're intending to do business
you're just basically waiting for a
request but active time is just when
you're actually on an assignment so
that's BAS basically the moment that you
get the request to the moment that you
complete it and you drop it off earn by
time can be good because let's say you
hit traffic let's say there's a long
wait at a restaurant 15 20 minutes cuz
it's going to happen you're getting paid
and you're getting paid a hourly rate
and actually that hourly rate can
actually have separate bonus pay now so
on the left there's a per delivery or
per offer bonus here in this example $2
but then there's now Peak pay on the
earn by time it's a per hour or per
active hour bonus so in this example
what would have been $13 per active hour
is now boosted up to ,750 so you're
going to have to think what would
honestly make you more money do you have
more delays let's say you're driving
during rush hour and I know like if it
puts me on the parkway or the highway at
all I'm going to be sitting in back off
that's another thing to consider when
you're driving even if that's the case
if I have long delays traffic or
whatever it is problem R imagine you're
driving late at night actually like
10:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. I'm driving
the bar Rush basically and then if
you're on earned by time you don't even
have to worry about long drive-thru
weights because maybe that's all that's
open it's super popular but if you can
combine like a
$34 per hour earn by time incentive then
you're getting paid cuz you're on
assignment you're just sitting in the
Drive-Thru versus earn per offer then
you're not getting paid anymore for
sitting in that drive-thru it could be
let's say a $10 order for $2 a mile and
it's still going to be $10 and it
doesn't matter if there's a delay in
that drive-thru so think about that if
you're driving earn per offer you might
have to be a little more careful of
avoiding the traffic avoiding the
drive-thru only runs but of course
there's a caveat you can only decline at
least at the time of filming this video
One offer per hour on earn by time so
it's probably boost your acceptance rate
which isn't necessarily a bad thing
until it costs you money so I wouldn't
just accept all the time just because
you're on earn by time you're going to
have to do the math again we have a
tracking spreadsheet on your driver
mik.com and also unfortunately door Dash
actually says when you're on earn by
time tips are probably going to be lower
as well and lastly let me talk to you if
you made it this far in the video by the
way consider dropping a like I would
love to have you part of the team here
consider subscribing all I do is help
you make money in different SS hustles
what to watch for in 2024 with these
platforms I think we're going to see of
course new features because every year
I'll tell you this I've been doing this
stuff for years every year door Dash
adds some kind of new earnings either
option or features we just saw that earn
by time in 2023 and there's going to be
more now order types we've already been
seeing different order types like I
mentioned yes there's the restaurant
stuff that's standard but they're
focusing on new verticals groceries
convenience alcohol Etc I'm also going
to mention that we don't know Market
saturation okay that's another thing
that you're going to have to watch here
how many Dashers are in your Marketplace
we don't know of course as Dashers you
don't have access to that I would keep
an eye on that Peak pay what are you
seeing right now go in the app take a
look here and watch that just go in
there like every day even if you don't
plan on driving just take a look and
start to get an understanding of what's
my average dinner rush Peak payet say
maybe $2 understanding that average Peak
pay how much is it how frequently is it
is it just on the weekends is it during
the weekdays when is it and what submar
marketplaces get the most and most
frequent Peak pay as well that's
combined with understanding how to
optimize the different order types
understanding where and when to drive
understanding those power strips in the
sub markets and I'll step back for a
second and fully acknowledge like I
understand it's food delivery it's not
the hardest thing I understand you know
how to do it but I want you to make the
most money because I imagine you have
limited free time like myself so I don't
want you to go out there and waste your
money and not make enough and just kind
of give up cuz it's not even worth it so
do the research watch videos like this
again consider subscribing and keep your
options open as well we talk about
multi-app driving on different apps at
the same time because if something's
going on with door Dash and it's not as
good as you thought maybe another app is
better in your Marketplace
