Transcripts
[Music]
now during the first clinic i was
asked about golf clubs quite a bit and
i love those questions that is such an
important part of the game and to
understand
what certain clubs do and when to use
them
is very important and when i would talk
about the sand wedge a lot of the
participants
thought that you could only use the sand
wedge
out of the sand now this is my 56 degree
sandwich
and wedges are going to have different
lofts on them
they go from 64 to 52 just depends on
which wedge you get now they can be used
from
110 100 80
70 50 whatever distance it may be
they are not solely for the same
you can use them to chip and they're
great for hitting pitch shots
so when you're learning okay
i want you to do something that's very
important right here
this little t
when you go out and play golf is the
most invaluable thing
you can have in your back teen up every
shot
from tee shot to fairway all the way to
the green
don't tee up your pots and don't tee up
your chips but
teeing up the shots will help you play
better
because you're a beginner and if anyone
gives you a hard time with that
play with somebody else but when it
comes to
other clubs okay you're going to have
a pitching wedge which is either going
to have a
p or a w on it and that loft is going to
be anywhere between you know maybe 48
45 i've seen some at 43 degrees then
you're going to have a 9-iron okay
now these again are for your approach
shots
into greens and teeing off
on par threes and you can hit them off
of par fours or par fives it doesn't
matter you can hit them
anytime and then we have what's called
the mid
club which is a seven iron okay
or your eight and
your six now these again
are for approach shots that go into the
green
and i would definitely like to see you
tee
those up those are very important
because it
just helps you get that much more
of an advantage at this point because
you're not trying to stripe it directly
off the ground
that just makes it that much easier and
as a beginner
that's what you want now when we get
into more
of the longer clubs which are your five
irons four irons three irons your
hybrids
that again is something you can tee out
but those are for
longer approach shots or you can hit
those off the tee
or you can use them on longer par threes
now of course the driver
or a fairway wood you can tee off with
on any hole
and understanding what they're for
and how to hit them and all that uh
stuff that's going to come in the future
will help you become a better player
you're going to understand the different
lofts that come out of each club
you're going to understand that the
shorter clubs are
easier to hit than the longer irons
the clubs that have the most amount of
loft
okay like the 56 degree or even my
pitching wedge is 48
reduce side spin which helps you hit the
golf ball
straighter they just don't go as far and
when we progress through this program
you're gonna have a much
better understanding of which club you
should hit
around the greens regarding chipping uh
which club you should hit
when it comes to a 30 40 50
60 yard shot some of those are called
pitch shots
others they might be a full shot and
then you're gonna understand what you
should hit from 150 yards
into the green and so on and so forth
and
this i thought was a very important
section
and when you set your golf bag
up i have these alignment sticks right
here
and these are vital to your practice
because if you don't have alignment
sticks set up
and you go to the range and don't have a
target
to hit to basically you're just
exercising okay
and when you set your golf bag up you
want to have teas
you want to have golf balls that's very
important
and the rest of the stuff you will
develop and put more in your bag as you
go
and i'm always going to recommend
sunscreen
and water especially this time of the
year but
this gives you a quick introduction into
the different clubs
we'll get more in depth in the irons as
we go through the clinics
but this is a great way to get started
you
