Transcripts
one thing that's remained very
consistent throughout almost every entry
in the super mar Brothers series is that
the King Koopa really wants to kidnap
Peach and force her to marry him using
that power he would gain to rule over
the entirety of the Mushroom Kingdom
sometimes this power grab happens off
screen and the players have no
indication of why or how this happened
where today I thought it'd be
interesting to fill in those gaps
showing you all exactly how the princess
is kidnapped in each and every game most
of the times these are cut scenes that
explain what happened but in a few
instances you do need to dig a little
bit deeper and do some extra research to
figure it out for yourself and oh yeah
before we get started with everything my
name is Copycat and if you haven't yet
then please subscribe to my channel
hitting that Bell to stay notified when
I upload new
videos the very first game to come out
in the franchise is Super Mario Brothers
that was released for the NS in 1988
where in playing the game it gives you
no idea to how the events of it started
need to actually read The Game's manual
as it sets up the story for you nicely
here the description of the game reads
one day the kingdom of the peaceful
mushroom people were invaded by the
Koopa a tribe of turtles famous for
their black magic The Quiet peaceloving
mushroom people were turned into mere
Stones bricks and even field horse hair
plants causing the Mushroom Kingdom to
fall into Rune the only one that can
undo this magic spell is the princess
toads AKA Peach the daughter of the
Mushroom King unfortunately she is
presently in the hands of the great
Koopa Turtle king AKA Bowser somehow
some way possibly in a different
dimension Mario hears about the story
and sets off at an adventure to rescue
the princess which is precisely where
our game
starts the next game to be released on
the NES and Western markets is Super
Mario Brothers 2 that was actually a
reskin of a Japanese Mario clone called
Yumi Cojo doy DOI panic only being
replaced by the true sequel as that
entry was deemed too hard and too
similar to the original where in this
title Peach isn't kidnapped at all
that's mainly because things take place
in the subcon dream world that I'm going
to assume exists in a third separate
Dimension from The Real World and the
Mushroom Kingdom so it's kind of
confusing meaning her blonde look might
actually be bleached and she's naturally
a brunette so I'd love to know your
thoughts on that controversy in the
comments
below the final of the original NES
Trilogy Super Mario Brothers 3 came out
in North America in 1990 where at the
game's beginning Peach actually gets the
help of the Bros to rescue the kings
that have been transformed by the evil
Koopalings while Mar and Luigi are off
in their adventure to regain the king's
wands and return them to normal Bowser
swoops in and kidnaps the princess
taking her to the dark lands of World 8
not too much else to the story as you
don't even find out Bowser's motivations
in this one but I think it's safe to
assume it's probably the same old just
wanting immense
power before we move on I just want to
look at the true Japanese sequel to the
original Super Mario Brothers 2 also
known in North America under the title
of the Lost Levels which I didn't
realize is supposed to take place in a
parallel Dimension to that first entry
where again the King Koopa takes peach
in a very similar manner things are
slightly different as Bowser even
employs his brother in this title to
fight against our mustachioed heroes but
the end result is still the same the
princess is rescued and the Mushroom
Kingdom is
saved the first handheld game in the
series is Super Mario Land that came up
for the game boy in
1989 where Princess Peach isn't the
Damsel in Distress in the entry and
instead that role goes to Princess Daisy
as the setting here is in her sarasaland
kingdom instead of Bowser the evil alien
Tanga is the antagonist wanting to marry
Daisy and hypnotize all the inhabitants
to rule over everything for himself I'm
not sure how Mario found out about this
place or even knew that there was
trouble brewing in this different land
but Peach and Daisy apparently are
cousins so that might have something to
do with
it up next is the Super Mario World SNES
entry set within the mysterious Dinosaur
Land with things beginning with their
Trio of Heroes traveling to this place
in an attempt to revitalize it from
Bowser's rule little did they know that
Bowser had actually retreated here and
upon Peach's arrival he and the Koopa
Lings kidnapped her I think in this
instance just is a way to get back at
Mario these events are all told to you
by the Yoshis who in the end join your
journey in liberating their land and of
course rescuing the princess from
Bowser's dir
Castle the next handh Hill game to come
out is Super Mario Land 2 that also was
released for the Game Boy but here in
1992 where there were absolutely no
princesses to be seen in this title at
all but that's for a very specific
reason this is because the head
developer of the game heroi kotake said
he wanted to divert from the
conventional ideas established by past
Mario games thinking that it would be a
better change of pace of Mario's
fighting for something that belongs to
him rather than fighting for someone
else's benefit personally I think this
actually worked well and the nonlinear
gameplay really added to the experience
leaving us with probably the best
pre-color Game Boy game which is an
honor as this system was pretty
rudimentary the first game to be
released in the 3D realm is Super Mario
64 for the N64 and when this particular
Story begins you learn that her
Mustachio man has been invited by Peach
to have cake at her castle most likely
in celebration for the events that
occurred in Super Mario World once you
reach the castle for your dat you
quickly realize that Bowser's
infiltrated and taken everything and
everyone hostage including the princess
and most of her toads now I'm assuming
she's trapped within the painting that's
found down the hallway that leads to the
first floor Bowser boss fight as you
don't see her held ctive at any time and
you only see her physical self at the
very end during the
celebrations the next game also in the
3D realm is Super Mario Sunshine for the
GameCube where Peach is actually
kidnapped twice while the pair are
visiting Delino Isle both times by
Bowser Jr the first is when you
initially get to Delino Plaza and she's
taken by the kid Koopa who's pretended
to be a sort of shadowy goopy version of
Mario where here if you just spray this
version of Bowser Jr a few times then
he'll drop the princess and leave just
as a side note Bowser Jr has been
wrecking Havoc by covering important
landmarks with his magical paintbrush
that he apparently got from a strange
man in a white coat AKA Professor EAD
this is oddly the same person who gifted
Mario the flood device in the first
place which I am going to to say is a
bit strange as he's supplying both sides
of this battle and it's tough to say
what benefit comes out of doing this the
next time Peach's kidnapped is when you
chase Bowser Jr to pin a park and have
to fight and defeat his Mecha Bowser via
water rockets at the end of this he
reveals that he had somehow taken the
princess and that Bowser told him that
she was his biological mother and that
Mario was the real capture in the
scenario this of course is a lie I I
hope and by the end of the game I think
Bowser Jr understands this although it
would be really interesting to one day
know who his true mother
is nendo will return the series to its
2D platforming environment with the
release of new Super Mario Brothers for
the dual screen system where the game
starts with a little cut scene
explaining exactly how the princess is
stolen away here this occurs when Mario
and Peach are taking a little stroll
near the castle and all of a sudden a
mysterious Thundercloud appears that
scares all of the Toads away Mario then
goes to investigate this and while he's
distracted Bowser junor jumps out from
behind the bushes to snatch her up and
will now run with her from Castle to
Castle all the way until World 8 I'm
really not sure the psychology behind
kidnapping Peach again so soon after
just learning such a valuable lesson but
I guess we can't assume any of the games
are connected in any way
right up next is the space based Super
Mario Galaxy we entry where things start
off with peach holding a star Festival
in celebr ation of the special Comet
being in the Skies over the castle for
the first time in a 100 years Mario is
of course invited to this party but upon
his arrival discovers that Bowser is
attacking in his brand new UFO and is
started encasing everything and everyone
in some sort of Crystal material Bowser
then uses his UFOs power to lift the
castle off the ground and in the space
with peach inside of it taking her to
his newly created Galaxy and trying to
make her his queen of of the Universe I
feel like Rosalina would have been the
more obvious choice over Peach who
probably didn't even know there was life
in space or galaxies in the first place
plus it sort of seems like she's the
princess of all space where Peach is
just the princess of the Mushroom
Kingdom the second installment of the
new Super Mario Brothers Subs series
came up for the Wii in 2009 where in it
Peach is taken right at the beginning of
the game during her birthday
celebrations at the castle while all the
heroes are about to enjoy a delicious
looking cake Bowser Jr and the
Koopalings emerged from within it and
stun everyone in the room they then pick
up the cake throw it on Peach trapping
her then pick it up and carry it to
their ship returning to Bowser with the
princess it honestly just seems like the
King Koopa does all of this just to ruin
Peach's birthday party probably just out
of bitterness that he wasn't invited a
petty move but it led to a great game so
whatever up next is a sequel to the
first space Bas entry here called Super
Mario Galaxy 2 that also was released
for the Wii but this time in 2010 which
Alli starts the same way as before peach
holds a star Festival Mario's invited to
that star Festival but somewhere along
the way Bowser ruins everything and
kidnaps the princess he then takes her
to the center of the universe to hold
her captive where he once again wants to
rule over every Galaxy with peach as his
Queen it sort of seems like he's just
going through the motions at this point
and his running out of ideas I mean the
plot of this one is literally the exact
same so did it take place 100 years in
the future during another star
celebration I I doubt it but I
maybe Nintendo would perfectly blend the
3D and 2D Mario environments to create
Super Mario 3D land for the 3DS where
Bowser this time at least has a slightly
different reason for kidnapping the
princess as here he wants to gather all
of the super Le from her tail tree and
give them to his minions to have an
advantage over the Bros while he's
transporting the princess back to his
lair she actually somehow manages to
escape but eventually becomes recaptured
which might be the only time this
happens across the entire franchise
unfortunately there's no cutscenes in
this title and instead everything is
conveyed through these postcard-like 3D
pictures that the brothers gather
throughout the different
worlds the third installment of the new
super Mara the sub series was called new
super Brothers 2 and was released for
the 3DS in 2012 where things start off
with raccoon Mario and fox Luigi going
on a coin hunt from Peach's castle
leaving the princess alone on her
balcony while they go out to gather some
goodies just as they leave a Koopa clown
car appears with all of the Koopalings
in it and take the princess hostage
damaging the Bros who were just
returning from their adventure and
depowering them I haven't found any
motivation or ankling in this one to why
Bowser wanted to kidnap Peach for now
what's the 12th time and I seriously
can't believe Nintendo lasted almost 5
decades just recycling the exact same
story the final of the new Super Mario
Brothers Subs series came out for the
Wii U in 2012 where the opening cut
scene has Peach Mario Luigi and the two
Toads enjoying a nice dinner that of
course is interrupted by Bowser and the
Koopalings here they use a gigantic hand
that descends from their Airship to
smash the dinner table talk Our Heroes
way off in the distance and take over
the castle with peach in it I didn't
realize that it was the crew getting
smashed into the acorn tree which is why
that PowerUp is in the game as they
spread across the Mushroom Kingdom for
you to use and
find I remember being very happy to find
out that peach wouldn't be used as just
the damsel and distress in Super Mario
3D World but that doesn't mean that
there isn't a princess for you to rescue
as this time that role goes to a bunch
of sprixie princesses
Bowser wanted to use these strange
fairy-like be as they could build his
new World Bowser domain for him as these
characters possess the power to create
pretty much anything you can imagine
from scratch this made them extremely
useful to the King Koopa and gives him
another way to attempt to take over the
Mushroom Kingdom but of course with the
help of Mario and all your friends he's
easily
defeated in the absolutely massive Super
Mario Odyssey Nintendo switch entry
Bowser's back to his old ways wanting to
capture the princess and make her his
bride in the process ruling over every
Kingdom together the opening cut scene
is actually very interesting as Bowser
seems to easily overpower Mario and
somehow shreds his hat into a million
little pieces sending him hurdling
towards the Earth to land in the cap
Kingdom this is where our hero meets
cppy and the adventure begins where you
have to go from Kingdom to Kingdom
trying to clear up the mess that the
brutal have left and save the princess
as well I think it's cool to note that
Bowser wants something very specific
from each place he visits for his and
Peach's wedding which includes her Tiara
from the cap Kingdom who is actually
Cathy's sister who funnily enough is
named Tiara in the sand Kingdom he goes
within its depths to get a diamond so he
can craft an epic wedding ring in the
wooded Kingdom he steals their secret
flowers for the bouquet in the lake
Kingdom he gets the lock ladies to make
peach a custom wedding dress in the
Metro Kingdom he steals the band that's
usually playing with May Pauline in the
seaside Kingdom he takes some sparkling
water for his guest to enjoy in the
luncheon Kingdom he steals a delicious
stew and on the Moon Kingdom he
obviously just uses the venue itself for
the wedding even though the ending is a
bit controversial as Peach rejects both
Mario and Bowser and leaves by herself I
do like how it shows she's done relying
on others and I'd have to imagine that
Nintendo's self-aware and know it's
finally time to move away from this very
outdated trope
the newest entry in the series is Super
Mario Brothers Wonder for the Nintendo
switch which is the very first one to
not include any kidnapping at all
instead needing to rescue the flower
Kingdom from the corrupted Bowser this
is a nice change of pace as it allows
you to experience something different
for once and in a very different place
but in the end it's still the same old
Mario all right that's going to be it
