Transcripts
so this has been one of the most
requested video on our channel and
finally we are creating that which is
about what to pack when you are coming
to australia for your studies without
wasting any time let's dive in to this
video now your packing will depend upon
three main factors so the first factor
is the city you are coming in it will
depend a lot on the city that you are
coming in because some cities stay warm
during the year while others get really
cold in the vintage so your packing will
depend on this factor the second is the
type of accommodation you are coming in
so there are different type of
accommodations students usually live in
so you got university accommodation
purpose build student accommodations
hotels airbnb
or living with your friend or family
here now it will depend upon the
facilities that are already there in
these accommodation types so depending
upon whichever accommodation you are
coming in you may have to pack less or
more of certain items and last but not
the least which is very important is
your personal choice at the end of the
day it's a personal choice to bring some
items and not to bring others although
we can give you a general
recommendations but at the end of the
day it is your final call to decide
whether you want to bring certain items
or not so we divided your packing into
different categories so the first and
the most important category are your
bags now luggage bags are one of the
most important things because eventually
you're gonna pack everything in these
bags anyways and what you should do
before buying any bags is to look at the
airline recommendations what type of
dimensions are allowed on your flights
now most of the airlines will have a
standard dimensions for any baggage so
it's good idea to check those dimensions
before you buy any baggage but my
personal recommendation is that you
should definitely buy a high quality bag
when it comes to your baggage especially
if you are coming in overseas and you
might be needing to move few times while
you're even living here it is a no
brainer that you should definitely get a
high quality bags now personally these
days when i'm traveling i'm using
american tourister but that is only the
one brand and there are many other
brands that you can buy depending upon
your budget and your choice but spending
some extra money on a good baggage is a
must so the second thing is electronics
what sort of electronics you should pack
when coming to australia so if you have
already got a laptop a phone then you
should definitely bring these items
unless you're coming from a country
where it is much cheaper to buy
electronics in your home country i would
not suggest you to buy electronics from
your home country before coming here the
reason being is the warranty issues
replacements and so on so if you are
planning to buy a brand new laptop or
planning to buy a brand new phone i
would rather suggest you that you come
here in australia and buy here again it
will be so much easier in regards to
your replacement warranties plus they
will have australian charging plugs and
so on so along with your laptop and
phones make sure you bring your chargers
don't forget them as they are very
important to charge your electronic
devices any earphones headphones or
portable chargers
you can bring them along as well just
make sure to bring these electronics
items in a carry bag especially anything
with the batteries must be in a carry-on
bags now other electronic items that you
may have to bring along is like your
personal grooming equipment like your
hair dryers hair straighteners any sort
of electronic trimmers electric shavers
or any other grooming kits if you
already have some bring them along if
you want to buy them again buy it from
here i've told you the reason already
why you should and very importantly if
you can get couple of universal plugs
which are like your travel adapters
that can be really handy many countries
obviously have a different plug system
so it is a good idea to get couple of
universal plugs from your home country
when you're arriving here and these
universal travel adapters can be really
handy when you're traveling as well now
the next and very important category is
clothing
now when it comes to clothing it is
obviously a lot with the personal
decisions and personal choices as well
the one definite recommendation i have
is do not shop everything overseas i
would recommend that you do some
shopping overseas in your home country
but keep some of your budget for
shopping here in australia as well as
you do want to get on the trends that
they are following here in the country
because you don't want to be necessarily
looking very different from the people
who are around you so when it comes to
clothing here are some general
recommendations what you should bring so
it starts with the t-shirts would say
bring along few t-shirts don't
necessarily need to buy new ones
although i suggest that you can bring
some plain black and plain white
t-shirts
sometimes you might need them for your
work purposes and so on so it's good
idea to have those plain white and black
t-shirts and these are very common
colors here in australia definitely
bring few shorts
obviously your pants your jeans
they are important to bring along now if
you are coming in a colder cities then
definitely bring along some hoodies
sweatshirts sweaters and jackets as well
now you might need to pack an additional
jacket if you are coming to a colder
cities like melbourne hobart or canberra
so definitely bring couple of jackets at
least and just to let you know that the
puffer jackets are very popular here in
australia now i recommend you to bring
at least one set of formal dress
and would be better if it's black in
color the reason being this color can be
used for work or even for casual
purposes like going for party and stuff
as well and very importantly at least
bring one pair of a traditional clothes
from your home country as you know
australia is a multicultural country
there may be chance that you might be
going in for some of the functions
related to your home country here in
australia so you definitely want to wear
those traditional clothes on those sort
of events now when it comes to
undergarments the more the merrier so
for your undershirts your underwears or
even socks as well i would say at least
bring a 14 days of stock so at least 14
pairs of all these items the reason
being is that you might not be able to
wash your clothes every single day
especially if you're gonna study work
and do everything by yourself
and you might be doing it on a weekly
sometimes if it gets busy you might be
doing it on a fortnightly basis so it
will be good idea to bring at least 14
pairs of these items so you can survive
without cleaning those things for at
least two weeks bring along at least
couple of pairs of your sleepwear as
well and don't forget to bring some face
masks as well now the next item is the
footwear
so when it comes to footwear definitely
bring one formal shoes black plain is
the best option to go with one or two
pairs of casual shoes and if you can put
it in your baggage one pair of semi
casual shoes as well you must bring at
least one pair of flip-flops or sliders
they are the must or as we call it in
australia thongs the next item will be
related to your kitchen
so at least bring one to two items of
plates cups
cutleries
including your spoons knives and forks
don't bring any sharp equipment such as
kitchen knife and so on and when it
comes to cooking everyone has the
different preferences as well so it
might be worthwhile for you to look for
some specific cooking equipment that you
may not get in australia or it might be
expensive to buy here so i would suggest
you to compare some of these items what
you can get from your home country and
what you can get it in australia and if
it's expensive in australia definitely
buy them from your home country and
bring along in your bag as i come from
indian background one of the thing that
i did was bringing a pressure cooker and
that was such an important equipment for
me and i'm glad that i brought that with
me no regrets at all for bringing that
item as it was versatile in cooking many
things so it was a must for me and again
depending upon your personal choices you
should be bringing those special
equipments that you may not find here or
might be too expensive to buy now next
thing is in regards to the bedding
it is recommended to bring at least one
to two bed sheets from your home country
although pillows killed is something you
can ask the accommodation you're going
to stay if they're going to provide them
then that's great if they're not
then you may have to buy and bring them
as well the problem with the guilt and
the pillows is that they can take lots
of space and see if you can compress
them somehow and bring them along if
that's a possibility the next item is in
relation to medicine
so you can bring some basic medicines
without any prescriptions
obviously you need to declare any
medicines you bringing in in your
incoming passenger card we've got a
video on that as well how to complete
your incoming passenger card if you want
to know more about which things to
declare and which things do not i
definitely recommend you to watch that
video but if you can't bring a
prescription for some of these basic
magazines then you can get an invoice
from your local pharmacy now if you are
going to bring some specific medicines
that are only prescribed to you then you
definitely need a prescription for that
and i definitely recommend you to even
bring a little first aid kit in your
package as well again all the medicines
must be declared regardless of whether
it's with the prescription or without
any prescription
next items will be related to your
bathroom
so bring at least one or two towels for
sure and you should definitely look at
bringing in at least one daily use item
in your bathroom as well such as soap
shampoo toothpaste toothbrush face wash
and any other creams that you use on a
regular basis and if you're using any
specific creams might be worthwhile to
get some additional package for those
creams the next item will be stationary
so as you're coming here for your
studies might be worthwhile to pack up
some stationery that includes few
notebooks pens pencils some basic
calculator at least for non-finance
students now the last section will be
food or snacks
now generally speaking there are some
items you are allowed to bring when it
comes to food and there are many others
you're not
australian border force and australian
customs are very strict in regards to
what you can and what you can't bring
but you can definitely bring some ready
to eat snacks like your biscuits cookies
chips now as i mentioned earlier there
are some food items you're allowed to
bring while others you're not and for
that we got a really useful videos as
well on the things you can and you can't
bring into australia so i highly
recommend you to check that video out
we'll also put the link of australian
border force website where you can check
specific items that you are allowed or
not allowed to bring
please check that website before packing
in any food items and some other items
as well and last but not the least in
regards to your documents now if you
want to know about what documents you
should carry along when you're coming to
australia we got a video on that as well
so highly recommend you to watch this
specific video where we discuss on what
sort of documents we suggest you to
bring obviously some kovid related
documents might be outdated you might
not need to bring those documents but
there are very other important documents
that you should bring so this video is
highly recommended for that now i might
have missed one or two items here or
there and for that specific reason we
created this comprehensive checklist on
what you should pack when you're coming
to australia for your studies
you can download that from the link in
the description and as always all the
useful links will be in the description
below as well so make sure to check them
out and if you have any specific
questions regarding packing as well
please put them in the comment section
below we love to help as many as we can
and if you do find any value in this
video make sure to share it with your
friends as well and as always thanks for
watching see you in the next one
