havu we're working on the Aeroplane

today so what we have here here is a

tricycle gear call it a tricycle gear

cuz the wheels in the front and I don't

know it's kind of

uh helps the airplane land a little

easier I should say track easier when

it's coming in anyway I'm not a tricycle

gear fan I'm a tail dragger so we're

going to convert this thing to tail

wheel

airplane what we have to do is we have

to take all this assembly we have to

move it normally it would be right under

here I'm going to put it just forward to

this we're going to take all these bars

out and we're going to move them to the

other side and redo this and make room

for it in here and then we're going to

get rid of all of this right here all

this

structure is there only for the tricycle

setup back here that keeps the the

landing gear from twisting and then up

under here there is so much going on

with all the extra braces to put that

wheel under there so what I'm going to

do is

pull I'm going to leave that for now the

the front wheel the nose wheel but I'm

going to get all this pulled out and

then I'm going to move the gear forward

I'm going to widen the gear just a

little bit and then once I have that

done and I have a wheel back at the back

we'll make a tail wheel assembly I'll

show you how we do that then I'm going

to take all of this out and I'm going to

re brace the nose this is kind of just

for aerodynamics it doesn't really

support anything it's pretty flimsy but

uh I'm going to paint this as well so

it's pretty ugly looking see the Bondo

on here but I'm going to clean all that

up and uh we'll get that painted and

then yeah that nose wheel I'm going to

take all that out also these chokes

these are chokes I don't really like

these they're kind of in a stupid

position so what I'm going to do is take

them out shorten them up and I'm going

to put them up here with the pull

starter so that they're nice and short

and clean we're going to clean up all

this

wiring um what else do I got to redo oh

I'm going to pull the brake cables out

here in just a little bit cuz they'll

get shortened up and sexed up

so yeah let's get to

stripping

well as I was taking things apart I

decided to unfold this Fabric and have a

look at it looks like somebody was

making new uh new for this they started

with the

fuselage but I'm not going to use that

fabric I'm I'm going to I'm going to

cover the wings I'm going to cover the

tail feathers but uh this fabric I'm

going to fold it up and put it away and

uh the new owner if I sell it they can

put it on cuz I'm going to leave it open

tube frame I think it'll do better in

Crosswinds and I don't want it

collecting dirt out here in the desert

another beautiful day in havit

wind's blowing a little but it's nice

it's probably

60° the old truck coming home from

picking up the

airplane and uh something

happened not sure if the fuel injector

pumps going or I got injector problems

or what but uh started blowing a little

white smoke got really bad fuel mileage

going down and back so we're going to

tear into it today get this injector

pump off I'm going to send it to

Industrial and have them diagnose it and

go through it and figure out what's

going on see how quick of a turnaround

industrial can do on this injector pump

cuz I need this truck in the next couple

of days so they have a pretty good

program if you send a pump up right away

and put a 911 on it say you got a farm

tractor in the field or whatever they

will get the pump turned around as quick

as possible for those

scenarios anyway um let's get into

that sealed

up got the injectors out clean them up a

little bit get them in a box get that

stuff sent to Salt l Lake City and uh

see what industrial can do to get a

turnaround on this thing get her running

again several days

later well it's a new day here it's kind

of chilly

today um still got this thing apart

however um something showed

up so let's get this opened up and see

what we got literally 4 days to turn

this

around

foam lots of foam let's see what we got

here they did a better job packing it

than I

did of course the good thing was it was

broke when I sent it so what we got

here we got a set of injectors I

believe yeah let keep them opened up

set of

injectors and the

pump we'll get this thing put on the

truck and uh see if it fixes my problem

better the uh they did find a couple

problems with the pump

so there was a return spring that was

messed

up and uh I think it was just generally

wore out from what they reported so

we'll get this thing back on the truck

here putting the pump back on I think I

got everything ready I got a couple

injector lines loose over there kind of

messed up my cable here but I think

clean I don't see a ton of smoke so the

Smoke's not white anymore that's a good

sign um I may need to creep the timing

up just a little bit more on it

I kind of went conservative on the

timing so we'll drive it around we'll

see how it starts cold that's that's

usually the big tail if it'll fire cold

it's usually pretty

close um anyway take this thing for a

test drive here in a minute and see how

it

does well let's see if this old girl

runs any

better so far it's a lot cleaner on the

tail p

definitely not near as much smoke power

feels

good yeah feels good rims out good I had

them put a little bigger governor spring

in it so got a little more RPM a little

more top

end but uh definitely the bottom end is

really nice it's how uh it's how it

should

be I don't know uh I don't know what all

went sideways in that other pump but it

definitely had a lot of things out of

whack so it was pretty nice to uh be

able to pull that thing off send it up

to them get a quick turn around because

I've got to leave to go to California

like Friday and I need this truck to run

putting that pump together and doing a

911 rebuild on it
