🛑 The Virtue of Silence and Modesty in Islam

This paragraph emphasizes the importance of silence in Islam, drawing on the example of the Prophet Muhammad (SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam) and his companions. Silence is a virtuous trait that protects believers from errors, as excessive speech can lead to mistakes that may bring one closer to sin. The companions of the Prophet, like Uthman and Khadija (radiAllahu ta'ala Anhum), are cited for their humility and modesty despite their wealth and status. Khadija is particularly praised for her patience and quiet strength in supporting the Prophet. The promise of a peaceful, noise-free Paradise for those who bear the challenges of this world in silence is mentioned, aligning with the broader Islamic teaching of 'Ibad ur-Rahman' (servants of the Most Merciful).

05:02

🌅 Paradise: A Place Free from Grief and Worry

This paragraph contrasts the inner noise caused by grief and stress in this world with the eternal peace that will be found in Paradise. It highlights how external beauty or calm in this life cannot quiet internal turmoil, but in Jannah, all grief, sadness, and anxiety will be completely removed. The peace and tranquility of Paradise will be so profound that it will allow its inhabitants to praise Allah (Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la) for removing all traces of worry and sorrow. The emotional burdens of this life will no longer exist, as Allah promises a state of complete mental and emotional serenity.

Keywords

💡Prophetic Silence

This concept refers to the silence practiced by the Prophet Muhammad (SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam) and his emphasis on speaking only when necessary. It highlights the virtue of restraint in speech to avoid mistakes or sin. In the video, it is related to how the believer should be careful with their words, reflecting humility and wisdom, as excessive talking can lead to errors and spiritual consequences.

💡Ibad ur-Rahman

Ibad ur-Rahman means 'the servants of the Most Merciful,' referring to devout believers who embody certain virtuous qualities. In the script, these qualities include avoiding idle talk, showing humility, and being mindful of speech. The video connects this with the rewards in Paradise for those who protect themselves from harmful speech and behaviors in this life.

💡Salam (Peace)

Salam, meaning peace, is a central theme in the video, both in this life and in the afterlife. It signifies not only a greeting but also an eternal state of tranquility in Paradise. The video emphasizes that those who spread peace in this life will be rewarded with an everlasting state of peace in Jannah, where they will be greeted with 'salam' from Allah and the angels.

💡Nasab (Exhaustion)

Nasab refers to fatigue or exhaustion. The video discusses how the companions of the Prophet, like Khadija (radiAllahu Anha), bore exhaustion in this life for the sake of Allah. In Paradise, they will be rewarded with a home where there is no noise or fatigue, symbolizing the ultimate relief from the trials and hardships endured in this world.

💡Fitra (Natural Disposition)

Fitra refers to a person's natural inclination towards goodness and purity. The video explains how a believer's fitra leads them to feel aversion to harmful behaviors like gossip and idle talk. Over time, this innate sense guides them towards a preference for silence and peace, both in this world and the next.

💡Laghiya (Idle Noise)

Laghiya represents idle or useless talk, which the believers are encouraged to avoid. In the video, it is mentioned that those who abstain from engaging in idle chatter in this world will be rewarded with eternal peace in Paradise, where there is no laghiya, only words of peace and glorification of Allah.

💡Jannah (Paradise)

Jannah is the eternal reward for the righteous, described as a place of peace, beauty, and relief from all worldly hardships. The video vividly portrays Jannah as a quiet, serene place where the believer is free from grief, exhaustion, and inner turmoil, enjoying the natural beauty and sounds of Paradise, like the wind and the angels' praises.

💡Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah)

Dhikr refers to the practice of remembering and glorifying Allah through words of praise. In the video, dhikr is depicted as a way to bring peace and calm in both this world and the next. In Jannah, the believer will hear the dhikr of the angels and prophets, and the practice of dhikr in this life elevates their spiritual state, contributing to their peaceful experience in Paradise.

💡Israfil (Angel)

Israfil is the angel responsible for blowing the trumpet to signal the end of the world. The video describes his role in the afterlife, where instead of ending the world, he will use his beautiful voice to sing praises to Allah, bringing joy and tranquility to the inhabitants of Jannah. This highlights the shift from the end of the worldly life to the eternal peace of the hereafter.

💡Hard Feelings (Emotional Burdens)

The concept of hard feelings, or emotional burdens, is significant in the context of Jannah, where all negative emotions are removed. The video explains that in Paradise, believers are free from grudges, anxiety, and grief, allowing them to fully enjoy the peace and beauty of Jannah. This contrasts with the inner turmoil people may feel in the world, where external peace may not always bring inner calm.

Transcripts

play00:00

- The natural disposition

play00:02

of the believer is actually

play00:03

to be silent unless necessary.

play00:06

The Prophet SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam

play00:07

praised the person who goes into a gathering

play00:10

and leaves it almost unnoticed.

play00:12

Umar radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu mentioned

play00:14

that a person who talks too much is likely to

play00:16

make too many mistakes. And if you make too many mistakes,

play00:19

then you're more likely to enter the fire.

play00:21

So the believer is very measured

play00:23

about what they hear and what they say.

play00:26

And as they are measuring every single word

play00:28

and considering whether that word will be

play00:31

for them or against them, and observing Prophetic silence,

play00:34

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play00:36

rewards them with the silence of Paradise.

play00:39

But it's not like the silence of this world.

play00:54

When you think of many of the companions of the Prophet

play00:57

SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam,

play00:58

they had every reason to be arrogant,

play01:00

but instead they were very humble.

play01:02

Like Uthman radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu,

play01:04

who was known for his modesty,

play01:06

yet he was the richest of the companions.

play01:09

Or Khadija radiAllahu ta'ala Anha.

play01:10

Despite her prominence, despite her prestige,

play01:13

despite her beauty,

play01:14

Khadija radiAllahu ta'ala Anha

play01:16

was known to be a woman who was

play01:18

extremely humble, extremely modest.

play01:21

Now, we already spoke about the special home for

play01:24

Khadija radiAllahu ta'ala Anha.

play01:26

But remember, one of the things that was said to

play01:28

Khadija radiAllahu ta'ala Anha

play01:29

in the glad tidings that were delivered to her,

play01:32

is that there's a home in Paradise for you

play01:35

where there will be no noise and no fatigue.

play01:38

And SubhanAllah, the word that is used is "nasab"

play01:41

And Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la says,

play01:43

"La yamassuhum fiha nasab"

play01:45

That in Paradise,

play01:47

they're not going to be struck

play01:48

with any type of exhaustion, any type of annoyance.

play01:51

Why? Because they bore all of that

play01:54

in this life for the sake of Allah

play01:55

Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la. Think of how many times

play01:58

Khadija radiAllahu Anha heard an insult.

play02:00

Think of how many times she comforted the Prophet

play02:03

SallAllahu 'Alaihi Wasallam

play02:05

while the noise was taking place outside of her home.

play02:08

Think of how many times Khadija radiAllahu Anha

play02:10

applied the qualities of Ibad ur-Rahman,

play02:13

the servants of the Most Merciful.

play02:15

And then think of ourselves.

play02:16

There are times where you hold your tongue

play02:19

and you want to say something so bad.

play02:22

There are times that you remove yourself

play02:24

from a gathering where you don't participate

play02:26

in certain gossip or certain backbiting.

play02:29

And it gets to a point where it becomes disgusting to you.

play02:32

Where your fitra kicks in,

play02:34

your natural disposition kicks in,

play02:36

and you start to feel an aversion towards those things.

play02:39

And so you want quiet.

play02:40

Also, there are people that

play02:43

talk about getting away from everything

play02:45

because that's the only time they

play02:46

can relieve themselves from stress.

play02:48

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la mentions,

play02:50

"La tasm'aou fiha laghiya."

play02:53

You will not hear in Paradise any type of idle noise.

play02:58

And who is this for?

play02:59

"Alatheena houm 'an al-laghwi mo'aridhoun"

play03:02

Those who protected themselves from it in this life,

play03:05

Allah gives them an eternity without it in the next.

play03:08

Now, there's something very beautiful about this.

play03:10

You know, when you want to go take a walk in Jannah

play03:12

and you want to go "meditate" if you will

play03:15

or sit at one of the cliffs of Jannah

play03:16

and just look at the rivers, look at the water.

play03:19

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la says,

play03:20

"La yas-ma'ouna feeha lagh-wan illa as-salaama"

play03:23

They will not hear anything

play03:25

in it of idle talk, except for, "salam, salam!"

play03:29

So they're constantly hearing, "salam, salam, salam"

play03:32

And you never get sick of salam in Jannah.

play03:34

"Afshou as-salam"

play03:35

You've spread peace,

play03:37

"tad-khoulou al-Jannah bi-salam"

play03:38

and you enter into Jannah in peace.

play03:41

This is Dar al-Salam, this is the abode of peace.

play03:43

Allahuma Anta as-salam. Allah is the source of peace.

play03:47

"Taheeyaatu houm yaouma yalqaunahu salam"

play03:50

The day you meet Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la,

play03:52

You hear salam from Allah and the angels are coming

play03:55

to you from every direction, "salam, salam, salam, salam"

play03:59

And you don't get sick of it.

play04:01

And SubhanAllah,

play04:02

As you are sitting in Paradise and enjoying the quiet,

play04:06

one of the things that the scholars say is that

play04:08

those who brought quiet and peace in this world,

play04:12

they now get to enjoy the quiet in the hereafter.

play04:15

They're not annoyed anymore.

play04:16

Just like the person that's enjoying himself in Paradise

play04:19

because of the tree that he removed from the path

play04:22

because it was a source of inconvenience to the people.

play04:24

Now, he gets to enjoy the gardens of Paradise.

play04:28

The trees of Paradise.

play04:29

So you're sitting there and you're relaxing.

play04:32

And you know, sometimes when someone is quiet

play04:35

in this life or someone is, you know, looking at nature,

play04:38

staring into nature, or taking a walk,

play04:41

there's something that's bothering them.

play04:43

And that might be why they're quiet.

play04:45

So they might be quiet on the outside

play04:47

and it might be noisy on the inside.

play04:48

Maybe they're overcome by some sort of grief.

play04:51

Maybe they're trying to sleep, but they can't sleep,

play04:54

they can't rest because their thoughts are so noisy,

play04:57

their troubles are so noisy.

play04:59

They're hearing so much, they're feeling so much

play05:01

and there's pain inside that's taking away their enjoyment.

play05:04

You know SubhanAllah, if someone is grieving,

play05:06

you could put them on the most beautiful beach in the world.

play05:09

But that grief is so noisy

play05:11

and troubling, and the outer beauty

play05:13

and the outer quiet is not going to quiet the inside.

play05:17

But here's what happens to you in Jannah.

play05:19

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la says,

play05:20

"Ala khaoufoun 'alayheem wa la houm yah-zanoun"

play05:23

That they will not fear, nor will they grieve.

play05:26

So while you're sitting in Jannah

play05:28

and enjoying the quiet and breathing in the fresh air

play05:32

and no longer bothered and not exhausted or fatigued,

play05:35

you say, "Alhamdulillahee al-ladhee

play05:38

adhaba 'anaa al-hazan."

play05:40

All praises be to Allah who removed sadness from us.

play05:44

There are no more worries that stop you from peace.

play05:47

There's no trauma in Jannah. So you're not thinking

play05:50

about anything that's going to disturb your thoughts.

play05:54

It's quiet out of joy and relaxation.

play05:57

And as we said,

play05:58

there are no hard feelings anymore in your chest.

play06:00

"Wa naz'anaa ma fee soudouriheem min ghil"

play06:02

So all the hard feelings are gone,

play06:04

all the emotional turmoil is gone,

play06:06

all the thoughts and anxiety are gone.

play06:09

It's just sitting in quiet and in peace.

play06:12

And people SubhanAllah in this life,

play06:14

they try to go to quiet so that they can remove stress.

play06:18

You don't have stress anymore in Jannah.

play06:20

One dip in Jannah and stress no longer exists.

play06:23

But what do you wanna listen to in Jannah?

play06:24

And this is where it gets really beautiful

play06:26

and very interesting.

play06:27

Sa'ad ibn Said Al-Harithi radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu he said,

play06:30

That there are forests

play06:32

of golden bamboo in Jannah that are loaded with pearls.

play06:36

And when the people of Paradise

play06:38

desire to hear a beautiful sound,

play06:41

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la sends a wind

play06:43

and it will bring about all the sound that they desire.

play06:46

So think about the wind chimes of Jannah.

play06:49

and the birds chirping while you're sitting there.

play06:52

And one of the things that we avoid in this life

play06:54

for the sake of Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play06:56

is sinful music.

play06:57

And in one narration from Muhammad ibn Al-Munkadir,

play06:59

he said that on the Day of Judgment, a caller will call,

play07:02

"Where are those who protected their ears and themselves

play07:06

from the meetings of amusement and the instruments

play07:08

of shaitan? Put them on the dunes of musk."

play07:12

And then Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la will say to the angels,

play07:14

"Asmee'ahoum tamjeedee wa tahmeedee"

play07:17

Cause them to hear My glorification and My praise.

play07:21

So the angels start to do the dhikr

play07:23

of Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la.

play07:25

And when the angels do dhikr, you know,

play07:26

think of beautiful munshideen

play07:29

or qurra, people that recite the Qur'an

play07:31

or recite beautiful poems and beautiful nasheeds.

play07:34

Imagine listening to the angels

play07:36

glorify Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la together.

play07:39

And Shahr ibn Hawshab Rahimahullah,

play07:41

he said that Allah will say to the angels,

play07:43

My devoted slaves loved beautiful voices in this world,

play07:47

but they abandoned some of them for My sake.

play07:50

Meaning the sinful ones.

play07:51

Make them hear what is even more beautiful.

play07:54

So the angels will start to glorify and praise

play07:56

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la

play07:58

in a way that they've never heard before.

play08:00

There's no album like the album of the Malaaika singing.

play08:03

And you can hear that in Jannah

play08:05

and that can be your soundtrack while you're walking

play08:07

in Jannah and strolling and enjoying the quiet.

play08:10

But it doesn't stop there.

play08:12

Imam Al-Awza'i Rahimahullah,

play08:14

he said that there is no one who has a more beautiful voice

play08:17

among the creation of Allah, than Israfil 'Alayhi Salaam.

play08:21

I told you we'd get back to him.

play08:22

Remember, Israfil who has his lips puckered

play08:26

to the horn to end the world?

play08:28

Now, he no longer does that.

play08:30

And he has the most beautiful voice, and

play08:32

Allah Subhaanahu Wa Taalah will command him to sing.

play08:35

And there will remain no angel in the skies

play08:37

except that it will suspend its prayer to listen to

play08:41

Israfil 'Alayhi Salaam.

play08:42

And that will continue as long as

play08:44

Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la wants,

play08:46

and Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la will say,

play08:48

If the people knew My greatness,

play08:50

they would not worship anyone beside Me.

play08:52

SubhanAllah. But it doesn't stop there.

play08:55

What about the prophets of Allah?

play08:57

Remember Dawood 'Alayhi Salaam? And what he has of beauty?

play09:01

Malik ibn Dinar Rahimahullah explains the Ayah,

play09:04

"Wa inna lahu 'ayndana lazulfa wa husna ma-aab"

play09:07

That verily for him, Dawood 'Alayhi Salaam,

play09:10

is closeness to Us and a good place to return to.

play09:14

He said that when the Day of Judgment comes,

play09:16

a high pulpit will be put in Jannah and Allah will say,

play09:20

Ya Dawood,

play09:21

Glorify Me with that beautiful and melodious voice

play09:24

which used to glorify Me within the world.

play09:26

And Dawood 'Alayhi Salaam

play09:28

will start to glorify Allah Subh'anahu Wa Ta-A'la,

play09:31

and that will capture the attention of all

play09:34

of the people of Jannah and give them joy.

play09:36

So dhikr beautifies your quiet

play09:39

in Dunya while increasing your reward in Jannah,

play09:42

but what does dhikr do for you in Jannah?

play09:45

And if this is the beauty of all of

play09:47

the voices and the sounds, the birds chirping,

play09:50

the angels glorifying Allah,

play09:52

the wind chimes, the recitation of the prophets -

play09:56

what are you going to sound like in Jannah,

play09:58

when you glorify Allah?
