and here we are with the iPhone 16 the

16 plus to be exact and this is one of

Apple's cheapest big phone Flagship this

year and spoiler alert it's a really

good iPhone that feels very similar to

last year's model but just refined and

offers the most vibrant colors since the

iPhone 5c now it's only about you know a

week or so since uh switching from the

pro iPhone to the 16 plus and honestly

this might be the phone everyone should

look into if you want Apple's latest

iPhone let me explain now just as a

quick refresher I did want to go over

the specs of the new iPhone 16 real

quick so the iPhone 16 this year still

comes in two sizes 6.1 in and 6.7 in on

the plus model now inside these new

iPhones it's Apple's a18 chip they're

jumping two generations for the non-pro

iPhones this year to give users much

better performance but also give that

boost when Apple intelligence becomes

available in a future update now besides

that this also comes equipped with 8

gigs of RAM and you can spec both the 16

and 16 plus up to 512 gigs of storage

now what is new this year though

design-wise are three things first

things first the action button finally

made its way to the base model iPhones

and this will basically let you activate

a bunch of shortcuts which you can set

up in the settings I personally have my

action button set to focus mode just cuz

you know during the week I'm almost

always on do not disturb mode so I don't

get distracted and procrastinate but you

can conf configure it to a bunch of

different actions or apps in the

settings now second thing that they

change here is the camera module on the

back we have two cameras on the back

that are in a pill shape again very

reminiscent of the iPhone 10 they went

back to this design to help capture

spatial video a lot better on these new

base model iPhones so yeah I definitely

dig this new old camera design a lot now

last but not least which also has

something to do with the cameras uh is

the brand new camera control button

which sits right near the power button

on the right side of the iPhone now the

pros also have this new camera control

button right here and I'm actually glad

that it's here on the base model iPhone

16 and 16 plus cuz typically new

features are reserved for the Pro Line

like we saw with the action button last

year now this will basically allow you

to control a bunch of camera settings on

the fly with just a press and swipe but

we'll talk more about this in just a few

minutes now the new colors this year are

absolutely fire they're the most vibrant

colored iPhones I've seen in a while so

the iPhone 16 comes in a few different

colors it comes in the usual white and

black colors and then there's teal

ultramarine and this beautiful pink

color which I personally think is the

standout color this year now as much as

I love showing off these new colors I've

been traveling way too often and I

actually got to protect this new iPhone

16 so Bank sent over a few of their

cases for me to use with this new iPhone

16 series now this is their armor tint

plus like I mentioned earlier now looks

a bit different from the back if the

saturated colors don't give that away

the camera module on the back for sure

will I'm actually kind of glad that

Apple moved away from you know the usual

Square camera bump and went with a more

simple pill-shaped cutout I think this

looks way better in my opinion but what

do you guys think besides that though

everything else design-wise feels and

looks like the iPhone 15 from last year

now Apple did improved the durability of

the front glass making it a lot stronger

and more durable than previous iPhones

and the max safe charging on the back

did get an upgrade to 25 watts versus 15

watts from previous generations but you

do have to use the new Puck and as for

its performance it's running the all new

a18 chip and it's incredibly fast not A8

pro fast but any High demanding games

that you throw on this phone from the

App Store can play those games without

this phone breaking a sweat or if you

need to you know bulk edit highr photos

in Lightroom it's going to be able to do

those tasks no problem now I know what

you're going to say there's one thing

that Apple needs to do on these based

iPhones and it's 60 HZ and to be quite

honest it didn't really bother me as

much as people complain about it now I

get the argument of you know some

Android phones that cost $200 have had

120 Herz for a while but as someone who

just switched over from the 16 Pro with

promotion it really isn't as bad as

people say it is but I agree with all of

you guys we need 120 Herz on these base

iPhones so hopefully we get a faster

refresh rate next year cuz I think

performance is really going to shine

with the way Apple's been making these

processors all right now let's talk

about this new camera control button uh

I think a lot of people are going to ask

about this since it's basically a new

way for people to capture photos and

videos and change settings without

having to touch the screen all right so

first things first it can be used to

launch the camera from anywhere and you

can assign thirdparty apps to launch

instead of the default camera app now

this can also be your dedicated shutter

button it's super simple so when you're

on the camera app you can just press

down on the button and it'll take a

photo now now when you press and hold

down on that button it'll record a video

instead it's all really cool stuff but

besides that you can soft press twice

before taking a photo and that'll show

you a few different settings pop up like

your Zoom your exposure your

photographic Styles your f-stop and then

you can swipe and soft press to confirm

different settings it's all really neat

actually now I'm not sure if this is

something that I'll use on a regular

basis but maybe just you know to quickly

change the photographic Styles but yeah

we'll see how it goes in a month or two

when I do a full review on these new

iPhones and as far as camera Hardware

goes it got a slight refinement in terms

of the sensors so we still have a dual

camera setup here for the base iPhone 16

but just like the pr line this year they

renam the camera to the 48 megapixel

Fusion camera now I'm not exactly sure

what that means but I do know that this

Now features an even better

anti-reflective coding than previous

iPhones so hopefully less ghosting and

Reflections at night but yeah the iPhone

16 and 16 plus actually has a lower

aperture than the pr line but the actual

sensor is different

uh here on the 16 and 16 plus we have a

slightly smaller sensor and the pros

have the bigger sensors on the main

camera uh and for my testing the minimum

focusing distance on the base 16 is

going to be a lot closer uh than you

know on the Prine which is something I

actually prefer now what this means is

that you have way better macro

photography using the main 1X and 2x

zoom function uh but since the Prine

this year got an upgraded 48 megapixel

Ultra wide camera you kind of have more

flexibility there on the pr line in

terms of macro photography now as far as

photo quality goes I've only been able

to shoot a handful of photos Since

switching over from the pro iPhone but

here are some of the photos that I've

taken so far now most of these shots are

shot on the 16 plus and I shot them

using the ultrawide the 1X and 2x zoom

in my opinion the processing this year

is just a little bit better than last

year uh just like the a18 pro we also

have a new ISP on the a18 chip which I

think is way better at processing the

little things like shadows and

highlights now even though we're still

on Smart HDR 5 I'm noticing that photos

look a little bit more lifelike and a

bit more contrasty than before it is

still flatter looking than other Android

phones which does open up things to you

know like color grading in Lightroom uh

but what is cool on the 16 Series this

year though is the inclusion of their

next Generation photographic Styles

which is kind of like film recipes for

Fuji film cameras but a little bit more

toned down and a lot easier to customize

you can get super creative with the

colors and adjust the tone and the

shadows and highlights before shooting

your photos or the look after you've

taken the shot now I still need to play

around with this feature a little bit

more but so far some of the styles that

you know I've been able to cook up here

are looking quite good for everyday

shots but let me know if you guys want a

dedicated video on the best photographic

Styles and I'll try to make a video on

that now on the video side of things we

didn't really get anything major here

compared to the Prine uh but I am happy

to report that quick take videos now

record in 4k 30 versus 1080p30 I think

this is an awesome upgrade and this is

probably one of my other favorite

features on the camera this year besides

the new photographic Styles now as far

as battery life goes if you're not

looking into the pro line and want to

stick with the base 16 series and you

want the best battery life definitely go

for the 16 plus it's been really good

for me I think I'm getting about an hour

or two more than the 16 Pro I was just

using and how I've been using the 16

plus as of late is just replying to a

bunch of emails and messages scrolling

and posting on social since I was on a

trip to Berlin recently and shooting a

bunch of photos for this video uh and I

was able to get about 7 hours of screen

on time which is pretty good and can

easily last you an entire day and maybe

till the next morning now I will still

be doing a full review on both the 16

and 16 plus once iOS 18.1 comes out with

apple intelligence I'll also be doing

the same for the iPhone 16 Pro and 16
