Transcripts
almost every running shoe coming out this fall has something like the words x max or Â
next in their name and there's a reason for that it's made to Signal a technological leap in the Â
world of running shoes in the last few years we've seen a huge development especially in Â
racing and workout shoes the Foams are better the technology is better they're faster more Â
durable more supportive more expensive than the shoes you probably have at home here are Â
exhibits a b and c of 2020 for let's call him Bulbasaur Tander and Squirtle Pokemon Â
seriously what it's clever it's out of style Pokemon is never out of style you're such a Â
dweeb well you're a Gary what these shoes are some of the best to hit the market this
season all of these shoes were launched in September of 2024 and each has a type Â
of technology that sets them apart for one reason or the other now we're going Â
to review each shoe we'll talk a little bit about why they're cutting edge and Â
then we'll compare them with each other to help you decide whether any of these Â
shoes is right for you okay so first let's bring up Bulbasaur the Hoka Mach
X2 I'm convinced that the Mach X2 is the most aggressive workout shoe ever to be created hok Â
up pulled all the stops on this one one it has the most aggressive Rock forward Â
profile that I've ever seen which basically just means that the Mach X2 will thrust you Â
onto your toes with more power than almost any workout shoe that I've ever seen now on top of Â
that it also has a f length carbon plate that basically reaches from heel to toe and then Â
on top of the carbon plate is a layer of pea foam so that's super critical really bouncy Â
and lightweight foam now if that weren't enough Hoka also did this little cheeky thing where Â
cut tiny parts of the midsole at the bottom just to save that extra ounce or two of weight all in Â
all creating an absolute killer of a workout shoe you might be wondering why I keep calling Â
it a workout shoe like if it's so fast can I just use it in a race well you can as long as Â
World Athletics is not snooping around your local Turkey Trot the thing is these shoes are illegal Â
the stack height is Too Tall it's 44 mm to wear in a World athletic sanction event and that's Â
why I think these shoes are Cutting Edge they're not made for races they're made for running super Â
fast on training days in side note if you're a Hoka person the shoe might feel a little familiar Â
to you the thing is we've reviewed other shoe on this channel with the same kind of rock forward Â
profile the same long carbon plate and the same little cutouts in the midsole that's right the Â
weirdest shoe of 2024 the clo X1 you can tell the Mach X2 is Cut From the Same Cloth there are only Â
subtle little differences between the two so the cello X1 actually has two layers of pea foam to Â
the mach x2's one layer making the cello maybe a little bit faster the cellow also has a more Â
pronounced Heel To Toe drop so 7 mm to 5 mm but I think all in all I like the Mach X2 a little bit Â
more for a few reasons the upper feels a bit more breathable the laces are much easier to manipulate Â
and also the Mach is quite a bit cheaper so I'm comfortable marking the Mach X2 down as Â
the meanest workout shoe of 2024 and one of the first shoes designed specifically Â
for working out and actually not made for races at all okay number two Charmander okay I guess Â
we're sticking with this hey if you know if you want to reference Pokemon why not just stay with Â
the common ones like uh Pikachu Pikachu wasn't a starter Pokemon not a what the A6 glideride
Max okay disclaimer right away I'm not a physiotherapist or a podiatrist so no Â
buying these shoes running 100 mile weeks getting hurt and then blaming the marathon handbook I'm Â
adding these shoes to the list because they're an interesting attempt at creating a stability type Â
shoe that doesn't weigh a million pounds and that actually doesn't feel clunky at all the Â
glideride Macs are meant to correct under pron ation or supination or feet that roll outwards Â
when you run and how they do this is they have a hardened Eva plate in the midsole made to help Â
Runners who might have weak ankles and weak big toes move through their stride a lot better and Â
avoid collapsing feet which can lead to a whole lot of problems as6 calls the technology guide Â
Soul which is just some guard rails around your feet to ensure that they're moving from front Â
to back and in this plane and not side to side because like many of a6's releases this year the Â
shoe is made with speed in mind so underneath it has a layer of FF blast plus foam which is about Â
20% lighter than the regular foam that A6 has been using in the past on their training shoes Â
and then on top of the FF blast plus foam is a layer of FF blast Max foam that is apparently Â
even more responsive and that we're going to start seeing more and more in as6 models of Â
next year so FF blast plus FF blast Max are you with me what what I also like about the glider Â
rides is that they're wearable by neutral Runners like me so I've had issues with stability shoes Â
in the past they just feel like Overkill they're usually super heavy so I'll brand these as good Â
performance training shoes for under pronators and neutral Runners alike that actually weigh Â
less than the typical bag of flour okay let's move on to number three everybody's Â
favorite Squirtle I'm so so sick of this just kidding I'm a Charmander guy the oncloud surfer
next bear with me I have a theory in the last few years companies have found a way to make faster Â
and more responsive shoes than ever before but the tradeoff is that we've made these shoes huge Â
because we don't know how to pack that foam that super critical foam in a small package I think Â
what's coming next are shoes that are every bit at fast and responsive but that will come Â
in a much smaller package the cloud Surfer next is an example of the future we're sending you Â
back to the future okay like kind of it's not the fastest shoe out there it's not the comfiest shoe Â
out there not the most responsive but it does do something that most other shoes don't do it packs Â
a great punch in a smaller container it's shaped and size like a vintage shoe from 20 16 it packs a Â
generous slab of super critical foam so on calls its type of foam Helen foam it packs it inside Â
of a 30 mm stack height which is a lot smaller than most other shoes so these are the sneakers Â
for people who say hey I really like how the new shoes feel I like how they're bouncy I like how my Â
legs feel after I use them but I don't like being so high up on a platform like if that's you these Â
are a really cool creation that I think you'd like and the fact that they have a bit less material in Â
them might be what allows the cloud Surfer Nex to be sold at a pretty affordable price see I Â
think of the cloud Surfer NEX is just a smartly built shoe the midsole has that cloudtech phase Â
technology that just rocks you forward comfortably on each individual little hole or as an calls them Â
cloud and then as I just mentioned it has that Helen foam in the midsole for extra propulsion the Â
top is pretty Breezy and then the outs soole has a good amount of grip just keep you nice and on your Â
feet but what really impresses me with the shoe is that an kept it at 30 mm of Stack height and made Â
it so Compact and you can think about it as an old-fashioned training shoe infused with New Age
Technology so before we get into comparisons I think it's important to say that say you're new Â
to running you don't need to buy the shoes from this year there are plenty of good sneakers out Â
there that come from 2023 2022 and far beyond they're usually cheaper too this video is more Â
to inform you about what was new out there what are some cool technologies that you might want Â
to try now for those of you who are interested in these 20124 models let's compare them which Â
ones are better we've divided our ranking into eight different categories and came up with the Â
scoring system starting at price at $150 USD the cloud Surfer next Takes the Cake in my opinion Â
it's one of the last truly affordable shoes out there certainly the best bang for your buck out Â
of these three shoes next is weight so our winner here by a very slim margin is actually the Mach Â
X2 and that's pretty impressive considering that I think it's the biggest shoe out of all three Â
so a lot of lightweight foam classic Hoka shoe big and light one point for the Mach X2 three is Â
stack height so but simply these two shoes are of the era 44 mm of Stack height sounds pretty tall Â
kind of typical these days whereas as mentioned 30 mm of Stack height Cloud Surfer NEX will feel Â
much different now I'm not giving any points here because this is a matter of preference Â
some people like a super high stack height others like a really low one if you know which one you Â
are you can already start to rule out some of these pairs number four Comfort the cloud Sur Â
for next is a little hard The Mach X2 is a little weird the glideride is just right now I may be a Â
little bit biased towards as6 shoes I've been wearing a lot of as6 this year so there is a Â
matter of preference here but the people that have worn this that I've spoken to all seem to have Â
the same opinion that it's just a comfortable shoe it's soft around your foot and seems to Â
accommodate most types of feet whether narrow or wide number five speed okay that one's easy Mach Â
X2 hands down number six cushioning this one's also pretty easy I'm giving it to the glideride Â
max here because that's the one that makes my legs feel best after a run whereas this shoe Â
here the Mach X2 is pretty aggressive and this one here doesn't have all that much cushioning Â
so point for glideride number seven style hugely subjective but I think I need to give it to the Â
cloud Surfer next cuz it's the only shoe out of these three that you can really wear in public Â
and look good you might even fetch a compliment okay and number eight grip oh I can't believe Â
this is coming down to grip I do have a winner for grip and it's really tight like to be honest don't Â
wear any of these shoes on ice but if I have to pick a winner for grip one that stands the test Â
of a slippery run in the grass I do need to give it to the cloud Surfer next so this is our winner Â
for today so this concludes our review but don't think these are the only three sneakers hitting Â
the market this fall there is another big shoe with either the word X next or Max hitting the Â
market very soon and I can't tell you what it is but little hint it rhymes with Crooks blin can Â
I say that yeah I okay I guess I can't say that but I'm going to go get this shoe and I'm going Â
to review it because I want to catch oh my God no them please don't oh yep this video is ruined
