Transcripts
hello and welcome to the taking the biz
YouTube channel this is a new series
dedicated to you the GCSE business
students so if you're taking GCSE
business exams at the end of the year
stay tuned because in this video we're
going to take a look at the topic of new
business ideas
[Music]
so the UK economy is made up of millions
of businesses run by individuals teams
of people or owned by thousands of
shareholders and governed by board of
directors but each of these businesses
is going to have been founded on a
business idea somebody behind the scenes
of that organization will have come up
with an idea for a new business
organization and in this video we're
going to have a look at why new business
ideas come about and how people generate
new business ideas so if we start with
the why one of the most basic
fundamental reasons why there is a need
for new business ideas it's because of
the pace of change of technology
technological advancement provides
opportunities for new business ventures
and ideas as new technology materializes
some businesses may become obsolete but
it provides an opportunity for new
business ideas to materialize for
example as new technology enters the
automobile market many manufacturers of
traditional petrol or diesel based cars
may find that their vehicles become
obsolete over the next decade but it
provides exciting opportunities for new
businesses to enter the market with
fresh ideas based on more modern fuel
systems that might be of service to the
automobile industry as well as new
technology prompting new business ideas
to materialize we prompt new business
ideas to come about as well because we
change over time what we want because
trends in society evolves because
fashion changes because our tastes as
consumers change over time it means that
some old business ideas become obsolete
whilst new business ideas can take
advantage of these new changes in tastes
and trends and sand fashions in society
so for example the way that consumers
demand their music has changed over
recent years the trend for music to be
recorded in a physical format like a CD
or even before that on a cassette that
has become obsolete and people no longer
demand their music in that format now
people want their music to be more
convenient they want it to be available
on more devices they want it to be
digitally down loadable and that has
meant that for some businesses that
produced old forms of music their
business idea is now obsolete but it's
created the opportunity through these
changes in consumer tastes and trends
and fashions for new business ideas to
emerge but if that's why new business
and ideas come about how do people
actually come up with them the
entrepreneurs that are starting
organizations where do they get the
inspiration from for their business
ideas well essentially the inspiration
for a new business can come from two
different sources the idea could be
original something that hasn't been
tried and tested before or the idea
could just be an adaptation of previous
business ideas an idea that seeks to
improve a concept that is already out
there so many many entrepreneurs like to
try and launch a business that does
something different that does something
new that brings an original idea to the
marketplace for example the first
entrepreneur that decided to start
manufacturing vegan food would have had
an original idea for that business
concept the very first entrepreneur that
decided to start making stationary for
left-handed people would have had an
original business concept the very first
entrepreneur decided to take the idea of
a fast food restaurant had an original
business concept but actually most new
businesses that start are developing a
brand-new or original business idea most
new businesses that begin take an idea
that is already in existence that a
previous entrepreneur has already
trialed and they find a way of adapting
it potentially taking a business idea
and either giving it a new spin or a new
slant or maybe even improving that
previous business concept so there could
be something as simple as using a an
existing business idea or an existing
concept but bringing it to a new
geographical region that hasn't
experienced that type of business before
it could be just taking a business idea
that already exists in your local area
and providing customers with better
customer service or with a product that
is of superior quality or maybe you're
just adapting somebody else's idea and
offering it at a lower price than
existing businesses are already
providing it for but most new businesses
that start use this exact method in
order to try and generate their business
concept then they take an existing
business idea adapt it in some way and
base their business around this new
concept so that's one new business ideas
come to fruition and how entrepreneurs
try to stimulate them hopefully this

business revision we'll see you soon
