February 1903 and he was someone who had
very strong Christian beliefs and he was
a very religious man despite in the
1930s the domination of the Nazi party
across Germany Alexis vona because of
his religious convictions was hesitant
with their ideology and what the Nazis
preached was in opposition to what he
believed a number of historians have
claimed that he managed to fool Hitler
in the German general staff as he lived
a double life being on the surface an
Ardent Nazi but underneath completely
resenting the
ideology but he was promoted to become a
member of the foreign Army's West
Department in the Army High command and
in this he was involved in intelligence
and he was responsible for military
reconnaissance on the Western Front and
then the Atlantic attic front he would
in March 1943 become the head of the
department as he was made a colonel but
despite his internal opposition he was
an incredibly smart man who seemed to
judge politics and Military situations
very well he claimed that in September
1939 that following the invasion of
Poland that within 5 years we will have
war with Russia and then the West has
its hands free and carries out its air
armaments program and destroys us he
anticipated Hitler's invasion of the
Soviet Union very early but he was
convinced that Nazism would bring down
Germany and lead to a total collapse and
he foresaw the end of the war and
thought this would lead to the complete
destruction of the German Nation but
only if Hitler could be destabilized it
could be
saved but one of his most important
actions involved one of the most
infamous diversion attempts and
deception attempts of the second world
war operation mince meat this British
oper operation was done to disguise the
1943 Allied invasion of Sicily the body
of a who had died from eating rat
poison was dressed as an officer of the
rawal Marines and a number of personal
items were placed upon him he was
dressed as a captain and was given the
name William Martin and false
correspondence was planted on him that
suggested that the Allies were planning
to invade Greece and Sardinia however
the real Target was Sicily this
information was planted on him and even
a ficed girlfriend was given to the body
with a photograph of a woman claimed to
be Pam placed on him other items
including a St Christopher Medallion
cigarettes and more were placed on the
body and in the belongings and the
corpse was then lowered into the water
off the coast of
fva the Spanish took possession of the
corpse and the Germans were then passed
the information from the letters that
had been planted on it inside of
Hitler's government it was claimed that
the furer does not agree with musolini
that the most likely Invasion point is
Sicily furthermore he believes that the
discovered Anglo-Saxon order confirms
the assumption that the planned attacks
will be directly mainly against Sardinia
and pel
panus Hitler told musolini that Greece
Sardinia and Corsa needed to be defended
heavily because of this and that German
soldiers would be the ones to do this
the experienced first Panza division
were sent from France to salonica in
Greece and further troops were placed
there expecting an invasion but then the
Allies invaded Sicily and still hours
before the invasion of Sicily began
reinforcements were being sent to
Sardinia it was clear that Hitler had
fallen for the deception but Alexis Von
Rena was the one who handed the secret
intelligence over to Hitler the Nazi
hierarchy and specifically vona had
backed this information as legitimate
and he managed to persuade Hitler that
this was legitimate information and he
turned his mentality in belief that
Sardinia was going to be invaded
imminently one historian claimed that he
Faithfully passed on every deception
Rose fed to him accepted the existence
of every bogus unit regardless of
evidence and inflated 44 divisions in
Britain to an astonish in
89 with this Alexis vona may have
exaggerated the information and pass
this on to Hitler due to his issues with
Nazism another report claimed about him
that
Colonel Baron Alexis vona in charge of
the friender here vest the fhw the
Western intelligence arm who had built
his reputation on predicting Allied
Behavior early in the war was wrong on
almost every important count other than
to Discount an invasion of Norway he was
foed by the fantasy invasion of the pass
de Cal and was convinced that the
fictitious British for Army in Scotland
existed was about to be redeployed to
Kent there has been some debate within
historians whether vona fell for the
deception himself or whether he in fact
did not believe operation mince meat and
a deception attempt but still regardless
pass this on to subvert the German war
effort he was of course very intelligent
and he was someone who predicted much of
what would happen during the war so it's
debatable what his mentality was when he
passed the information on he is
mentioned was Hitler's favorite agent
and spy and because of this he may have
played on this to give over the false
orders but vona was later sacked as the
head of the fhw and this allegedly had
nothing to do with the deceptions but
was in fact linked to another incident
however on the 20th of July 1944 inside
of Adolf Hitler's Wolf's slay a bomb
exploded this was part of a huge plot
which aimed to bring down the whole of
the Nazi government and hierarchy and
take control of the German military the
staffenberg plot as it was known was a a
huge orchestrated coup which aimed to
assassinate Hitler and the bomb which
did go off did injure the fura however
there were a number of people killed
Hitler once he had recovered was driven
to round up anyone who had any
connections to the plot to assassinate
him and hinr Kimler along with the SS
did whatever they could to hunt people
down there were thousands arrested and
thousands executed for their alleged
involvement in the plot including many
members of the German military including
even a number of
generals but Alexis Von run was one of
those who was arrested following the
July 20th plot because he was connected
and was friends with a number of those
who were responsible for planning the
coup but he was then released but he
must have known that it was very
dangerous for him and he should really
have made attempts to flee Germany he
was seized again on the 9th of August by
the SS was then brought in front of the
People's Court on the 5th of October
1944 Roland fisler presided over the
case and screamed in the face of Ron and
he then sentenced him to death for
treason at his trial Von Ren was
incredibly Brave and he admitted that
the Nazi policies regarding race were
not in line with his Christian beliefs
and he was then found guilty being sent
to pler anday prison PL anday prison was
a place where hundreds of opponents of
the Nazi regime were executed and some
were condemned on the guillotine but
others were executed on The Gallows or
the hanging beam that was inside the
execution chamber but Hitler had ordered
the painful and brutal execution of
those involved in the plot and
specifically he ordered for these
executions to be filmed so he could
watch them back many of these people
were hanged using piano wire and were
subjected to prolonged ordeals as the
executioners would cut them down before
death revive them then repeat the
execution a number of times it was truly
harrowing on the 12th of October 1944 El
Von run the favored spy of Adolf Hitler
was executed in this manner being hanged
on a meat hook in barbaric and brutal
fashion in a final epar to his wife
Alexis Von stated in a moment now I
should be going home to our Lord in
complete calm in in certainty of
Salvation he became Hitler's favorite
agent of the abair and in the
intelligence Services during the second
world war however he rose to become the
head of the foreign armies West branch
of the ab involved in investigating
Espionage on the Western Front but Von
run either fell for the subversion of
operation mince meat or he happily
passed false information to Hitler
knowing it was incorrect which saw the
huge movement of soldiers away from the
intended Allied Landing sites making
them significantly weaker it's not known
exactly what his mentality was but he
was not necessarily involved in the July
20th plot however was still executed for
his association with with other
conspirators thanks for watching to
