the nine invested first appeared on the
scene in 1976 and we became a bank in
1980 at that time there were eight of us
who used to sit around the table we
listed in 1996 on the janitor of Stock
Exchange we started expanding
internationally in 1992 we have 10,000
people around the world from the
original 8 so we've made you know great
strides in building our brand both
globally and in South Africa from just a
small entrepreneurial boutique we are
first a human environment and second a
corporation that means that if you work
here you've got to come as yourself an
open and honest individual presence not
hiding behind titles and rank and you
know degrees and and those kinds of
things you come as you you know that's
why we're looking for real human beings
to work in the environment cuz we want
our clients to engage real human beings
if you can you'll fit right in the
responsibilities that we have as a team
in general is to make sure that all of
our services and offerings and products
are digitized to be made available to
the clients so we work very closely with
a lot of different business units
it crosses multiple business units in
terms of unique offerings between
private banking and wealth and
investments and it's just finding ways
to make sure that we can make that about
the client one of the key things for me
it's been a team that works quite smart
it's been a team that works hard but
also play hard we have highly skilled
people and it is a challenging
environment your mind is always
stimulated from the people around you
you know and the solutions that you have
to come up with the reason that I came
in is because the people that I work
with I have learnt more both technically
and professionally from the people that
I work with and I have in any other
environment people worked in from a
leadership perspective it's fantastic
because everybody's job is to make sure
that you're doing better
whether it be professionally personally
or just in terms of job performance
never felt like the
inside of the team is not there to look
out for you it's a very open team we
have a lot of open discussions it's
unique in terms of the teams that I've
worked with previously which is
fantastic so at its core a c-sharp
developer for investing develop C shop
there is a lot of different things that
C shop is a language is able to do
particular to digital channels our remit
is one of five things first
most other than is security because we
are the front door to the bank from a
servicing perspective we need to make
sure that it all of the code that we
write is secure then it is integration
sanitization validation and
transformation is less restrictions here
and we are open to new ideas we are open
to innovations so obviously what you
come up with will be challenged but it's
a space which does not have restrictions
in terms of technology but it's somebody
who is passionate and takes pride in
software craftsmanship and you have to
have the passion you have to want to
deliver quality solutions that's a very
open desk policy place many times when
we are dealing with an issue somebody
will put up their hand and say I need
help and then there will be three Dave's
at the desk trying to figure out what
the answer to this particular issue is
because again we disseminate that
learning across the team from an
experience perspective it does help to
have experience doing C sharp work
within the dotnet framework and they are
as a part of that validation process to
make sure that you're right for the job
and we do check that the technical
competency is up to a certain level but
that's the first interview every other
interview is to see whether or not
you're a fit for the team whether or not
your work within the team
[Music]
you
