🚀 Building Clientele from Scratch
Stephanie Mitchell, an online marketing coach, addresses solo estheticians on strategies to build a clientele from the ground up. She emphasizes the importance of not relying on chance for client attraction but instead suggests having a system in place to consistently reach new people weekly. Stephanie recommends focusing on online presence through Google My Business profiles and positive reviews, as well as utilizing Facebook and Instagram advertising to control how and where potential clients find you.
📈 Consistent Content Creation
The second tip from Stephanie is about the significance of producing high-quality content regularly and reusing it across different platforms. Content is defined as any form of informational material shared online, such as emails, social media posts, photos, videos, and blog posts. Stephanie advises choosing a content format that one enjoys creating and can maintain consistency with. She shares her personal strategy of turning YouTube videos into blog posts and emails to engage her audience and establish herself as an expert in online marketing for beauty professionals.
💌 Post-Appointment Client Engagement
Stephanie's third business tip involves creating connections and community with clients, especially after their first appointment. She suggests that estheticians should not become invisible to clients between appointments and should use email marketing to send follow-up messages, care tips, and product recommendations. This approach not only maintains rapport but also educates clients and encourages rebooking and upselling. Stephanie also talks about the benefits of automated emails and regular newsletters to keep clients engaged and informed.
💼 Diversifying Income Streams
Paragraph four discusses the importance of having multiple income streams for estheticians. Stephanie points out that retail product sales can be a significant revenue generator, often accounting for over 50% of gross revenue. She recommends resources for learning retail sales techniques and highlights the potential of online shops for 24/7 sales. Beyond retail, Stephanie encourages exploring additional revenue sources like creating a skincare line, offering online consultations, and securing sponsorships or partnerships with brands.
🛠️ Outsourcing and Scaling Business
In her final tip, Stephanie stresses the need for estheticians to get help and outsource tasks to scale their businesses. She suggests that outsourcing can include graphic design, social media management, content conversion, and website maintenance. Stephanie also encourages investing in education and coaching to fill knowledge gaps and enhance business skills. She mentions her own course, 'The Ad Lab,' which teaches beauty professionals how to use Facebook and Instagram ads effectively to reach new clients.

hey guys it's Stephanie Mitchell here
I'm an online marketing coach for beauty
business owners and this video goes out
to all my solo estheticians today we're
going to talk about my five business
building tips to build a clientele from
scratch whether you are starting fresh
whether you've moved to locations no
matter where you're at in your business
we're going to talk about how to grow
and scale today now I get estheticians
ask me all the time Stephanie how do I
build a clientele this is a huge
question because building a clientele is
how you build a business and there are
so many ways to build a business there
are so many things that you have to
focus on in order to scale from niching
down to specific services to always
learning and growing your craft whether
it's at the treatment bed or in your
business but my zone of expertise is in
one specific area which is online
marketing so how new people find you how
you show up online and on social media
how you follow up with clients in order
to increase sales and rebookings all
that good stuff there are millions of
ways to grow a solo Aesthetics business
and today I'm focusing on my five
favorite business building and marketing
tips in order to scale your clientele
your revenue and keep growing in the
direction that you want let's jump into
it okay my first business building tip
is don't leave client attraction up to
fate don't just wait for it to happen to
you have a system in place to get
yourself in front of new people every
single week so many people start out
their Aesthetics business whether you're
a new suite renter you've got a new
storefront you have a home-based spa so
many people start out their businesses
hoping that they're going to get clients
from two places number one foot traffic
so people just kind of randomly
stumbling across their business and
number two word of mouth so I'll start
with a few clients who are mostly
friends and family and existing contacts
and then they'll tell their friends
they'll tell their friends and it'll
just be a Snowball Effect and that
sounds great but waiting for those
things to happen is taking the power
away from you to build your business and
have control over how people find you
and where they find you you need a
system to have hundreds of new people
discovering your business every single
week now that might seem like an
impossible number but actually when
you're dealing online that's not
impossible at all that's very doable
there's so many different ways that you
can do it so you can focus on Google for
example so focus on building a Google my
business profile and getting a steady
stream of reviews on there so that new
clients find you you every single week
when they just search on Google for like
you know the best facial around or where
can I get the best Lashes in Chicago or
how do I get a hydrafacial in Los
Angeles and then people will stumble
across your Google profile they'll see
your amazing reviews you're going to be
at the top because you've got all those
amazing reviews
that you can have thousands of people
discover you every week if you decide to
focus on that but that's not the only
place you could also focus on Facebook
and Instagram advertising which by the
way is something that I love it's
something that I teach I've got a free
class about Facebook and Instagram ads
that you can find at the link in the
description of this video below
Facebook and Instagram ads even by just
spending five ten dollars a day you can
have hundreds and even thousands of
people in your town your ideal clients
discovering you every single week that
is something that doesn't change that is
something that's completely in your
control and it's just a matter of having
those people then discover you love you
fall in love with you and want to book
with you or let's say you're amazing on
Instagram and you just happen to be a
boss at creating content whether it's
Instagram reels Instagram stories and
you find that a lot of people are
finding you through your Instagram page
keep it up keep up that consistent
content creation if you love it if
you're good at being consistent at it
keep doing it and you will find that
your business grows or it could be
something else there's so many different
ways to get your business in front of
hundreds or thousands of people new
people every week but whatever Direction
you decide to go in
stay consistent with it do not leave
client attraction up to fate have a
system that you do every single week or
every single day or every single month
in order to have new people discover you
don't wait for Word of Mouth to happen
or foot traffic to happen they're nice
when they do happen and they can build a
business over time but especially when
you're first starting out you can't
leave it to fate or time or somebody
deciding to tell their friend about you
alright my second business building tip
for you is to put out amazing content
consistently and to reuse that content
in multiple places now when I say
content a lot of people shiver and
they're like oh my gosh like content oh
what does that mean does that mean that
I have to like spend hours writing blog
posts every week or does that mean that
I have to like consistently be on
Instagram posting every single day okay
if you hate those things do not panic
content doesn't need to look like that
but putting out content from your
business is so important content is
essentially any sort of written visual
audio informational content that you put
out into the world especially online
that does some amazing things for your
business content could look like weekly
emails to your clients posting on
Instagram three times a week photo
shoots of your business videos that you
shoot of clients of yourself or daily
life in your Suite YouTube videos having
a podcast for example a podcast all
about skin care creating Tick Tock
content having blog posts having
informational graphics and infographics
that you make on canva there are so many
forms that it can take and my suggestion
to you is to choose a form of content
that you actually enjoy creating like I
love doing YouTube videos like this
they're a little bit of work but they do
so so many good things for my business
so many people say that they find me
through YouTube and I'll tell you a
little bit more about how I use content
in my business in just a second but
first point is choose a place to create
consistent content that you actually
enjoy and that you know you can stay
consistent with and here's the main
point you need to be putting out
consistent content for your business on
a regular basis why well you cannot
operate your business in a dark room
with only you closed in and never
exposing what you do or your services or
your education or any of the things that
you have to share with the world never
exposing that online your business
simply will not grow if you continue or
you start out your business operating in
this dark box that people can't see into
creating content will help you do some
amazing things in your business for
example it will help you get more eyes
on your Instagram content it will help
you be seen as an expert by your
audience will help you build new
audiences in places like YouTube or
apple podcasts create stronger bonds
with your existing clients as you
educate them and it will help you get
found on Google by people who search you
SEO baby oh my gosh it works now I
personally create content for my
business in three main places every
single week first of all I make a
YouTube video so like the one that
you're watching here
and then I have a copywriter who turns
it into a blog post so she actually
create takes my YouTube video listens to
it and turns it into a written blog post
for Me Some people prefer watching
videos and some people prefer reading or
skimming contents and then after that
that blog post and YouTube video gets
sent to my email list every single week
so I've got an email list of about 28
000 people right now and they get an
email from me every single Tuesday or
Wednesday with my freshest content
having that email that I send out and
Publishing content regularly on my blog
on my YouTube helps me brand myself as
the expert when it comes to online
marketing for beauty professionals it
helps me stay top of Mind among my email
list and people who already know me so
they're thinking of me regularly and it
creates that trust and that Bond so that
when I do have something to sell or when
I am ready to to promote something
people are so much more receptive to it
content does not need to be hard here
are some ideas for coming up with really
good content ideas whatever format you
decide to publish it in start with what
you're good at and what you love talking
about and something that you could go on
forever about now write down five ideas
for topics that are things that you
could go on forever about for example
how to eat better to prevent acne or
maybe the best organic and natural skin
care ingredients and how to detox your
skin routine or how to go makeup free
there are so many topics I'm sure you're
passionate about write down five of
those topics
next write down five ideas for questions
that your clients ask you all the time
you probably get asked similar questions
from clients often about their skin care
about their home routine about products
about different issues that they've had
um these questions might seem basic to
you but if even one person asked you you
know it's a question that many people
wonder
now once you've written down those five
ideas you now have 10 topic ideas and
that could even be 10 weeks of content
one topic per week
now decide the format that you want do
you want to publish on Instagram reels
and create an Instagram reel about this
topic do you want to send it out as an
email do you want to create infographics
about these topics do you want to write
blog posts do you want to make a YouTube
video and the great thing is that you
can reuse the content in multiple places
for even more effect for example like I
said I always take my YouTube videos and
turn them into blog posts and then I
email them to my list three birds with
one stone content is so key so be sure
to be creating regular consistent
content that builds your business and
you will find especially after a few
months that the effect comes back to you
and you're growing your business my
third business building tip for you solo
estheticians is to create connection and
Community with clients after their
appointment especially after their first
crucial appointments
now I have been to a lot of salons and
spas in my life and it has very rarely
happened to me that I go in for an
appointment and I'm disappointed usually
I have a great experience but what
happens afterwards
I go back home
a way to I wait a day I wait a week I
wait a month I even wait a year and I
never hear from that hairstylist or
esthetician or Salon or Spa again I
never hear a boo from them they don't
follow up after the appointments and
it's so disappointing what about
continuing that relation outside of the
treatment room what about not making
that client feel like you only care
about them during your point during
their appointments what about getting
follow-up messages from my esthetician
about skin care products that I might
love to use at home about different
conditions that I've talked to her about
and her advice for them about how to
cleanse my face at night time there's so
much content and so much information
that she could send me in order to build
up her reputation as the person I go to
for skincare advice but so many
estheticians skip this you want to make
your clients feel special appreciated
and continue building that rapport with
them after their first appointments but
most people don't do this and so they're
missing out on a huge opportunity to
educate clients and like I said build
that relationship with them just because
they don't think of it the client
becomes an afterthought until their next
appointment until they're the ones that
reach out to you but in the meantime you
as a business owner you as an
esthetician as the Skin Care expert
you're invisible to them unless they
follow you on Instagram which is what a
lot of estheticians Hope for oh well you
know I told them to follow me I saw that
they followed me so they're getting all
my updates not true only 10 to 20
percent of your followers are regularly
seeing your posts so in between
appointments they're not seeing from you
they're not hearing from you they're not
thinking about you
so the question is what is the best way
to stay in touch with clients between
their appointments
email marketing oh my goodness I love it
it's automated it's free and it's such a
great relationship Builder start with
adding every single client that comes in
for an appointment to your email list
you can either add them through your
booking software so when they book their
appointment ask for their email address
and it'll get put into your booking
software in your list of contacts or you
can add them yourself through MailChimp
so when they come in get in the habit of
giving them like a new guest
consultation form or a new guest welcome
form and get them to fill out their
email address as part of that or you can
just ask them at the beginning or end of
their appointment hey can I just quickly
put your email address into my phone so
I can keep in touch with you if you feel
like it's a hard sell and they are
resistant to giving that a lot of
clients are resistant to giving their
email address give them a benefit say
when you add to my email list you're the
first one to know about my VIP sales and
you get 10 off of your next appointment
easy sell from then you have two options
for how to keep in touch with clients
through email and I actually recommend
that you do both of them the first is
automated emails and the second is
weekly or monthly emails to your whole
list let's start off talking about
automated emails you can send in
automated email to clients the day after
their appointments telling them how much
you loved meeting them asking them for
feedback maybe in the form of a Google
review or Yelp review and then giving
them tips for taking care of their skin
and home care or whatever kind of
services that you do you want to show
yourself as a valuable source of
information right from the start in that
first email
then the week after that clients can get
another email from you with recommended
home care products based on their needs
and the services that they requested
during their appointment
if you have an online shop be sure to
link to it otherwise get clients to send
you back an email to reply back to you
in order to order products from you easy
peasy
then the sky is the limit for these
automated emails you could have one to
five emails that go out to clients
automatically every week in order to
educate them send them your best content
remember we talked about that creating
content and follow up with product
recommendations and upselling the next
best service to them yes these emails
can also be used for rebooking by doing
this you will sell more you will book
more and you will build that trust and
that Rapport in that relationship in
between appointments that is so missing
from so many estheticians and their
relationships with their clients when
they're not at the treatment bed the
next option for email marketing and I do
this too is weekly or monthly emails to
your whole list I do this rain or shine
I send out an email every Tuesday to my
list of 28 000 people and they love the
content that I send out so I personally
update them on my life I send them
little life updates I send out my new
YouTube videos and my blogs I give them
business tips
that's me but what about you as an
esthetician well you could give out skin
tips you could update on new trainings
that you're doing and show photos and
videos of what you're learning right now
you could share with them these new
products that you just got that you're
carrying now and that you're excited
about the sky is literally the limit
with this
all right business building tip number
four for solo estheticians is to have
multiple income streams now
you know as an esthetician how important
retail products are in fact a lot of SDS
make more than 50 percent of their gross
revenue from retail product sales so
hopefully you've got a great line of
products and maybe even multiple brands
that you're carrying that you love
talking about and educating about and
maybe you've taken some courses and
leveled up your skills in terms of
selling retail products now that's not
my expertise but there are some great
resources out there to help you learn
how to sell more retail products you
could make thousands and thousands of
extra dollars every month through retail
so I have two recommendations for you
one check out Daniella Warner she has a
course called Spa retail rock star
um and it is the A to Z on how to build
more sell more educate more and
essentially sell with confidence so
check out Spa retail rocks star and then
also skin carelet has a course called
sales hater Academy skincare lit is an
amazing resource for estheticians to
learn more and educate more about skin
conditions products all that stuff and
they also have some business and
marketing courses so check out sales
hater Academy another excellent way to
Boost Retail Sales of your products is
to have an online shop this is a place
where you can set up through Shopify
through Square wherever you host your
website you can probably add an online
shop to it and you can have people
buying products from you 24 7 and even
people that aren't your clients from
your state or out of state or maybe even
in a different country could buy retail
products from you such a great way to
boost sales and I have some great
interviews with experts who are in the
beauty industry who are going to share
with you how to sell more retail
products online I've got a link to their
interviews around this video so be sure
to click that if you want some tips to
sell more retail in your business but
retail products are not the only place
to build more Revenue into your beauty
business there are so many different
places that you can move into in order
to double triple your income
and hopefully with covid we've all had
our eyes open to the fact that business
is never stable you can never just rely
on one place to build revenue so let me
give you some ideas here's my friend
Alyssa Cotter she's a solo esthetician
who takes clients but also has so many
different ways that she builds Revenue
in her business first of all she's got
an apparel line for estheticians this
apparel line is so cute and it sells out
every few months when our store opens up
she also hosts online classes for
estheticians about marketing business
Etc
recently she just opened up a brand new
line of products called lissy skincare
she's starting with one product and
building from there and her estheticians
are obsessed and she also hosts events
and Retreats for estheticians every year
that's so inspiring right that doesn't
necessarily mean to be you you don't
have to build up a
you know huge following on Instagram of
other estheticians but there are so many
different ways that you can build
revenue here are just some of them
having your own skin care line that you
develop white label
um that you create on your own and you
sell to clients or maybe hosting online
paid consultations on Zoom
uh selling skin care courses to clients
so if you've got clients that deal with
a specific type of issue maybe you can
create a mini course and sell it to
clients who maybe can't come in for an
appointment
also getting sponsorship or partnership
deals from Brands if you have a bigger
following on Instagram or somewhere else
especially this could be a great deal or
becoming a sponsored educator or
promoter for a skincare line
um or you know even selling courses or
hosting events for other estheticians if
you want to build a community of
estheticians there is so much
opportunity there I sell online courses
I know how much revenue there is to be
built in educating Beauty professionals
so there you go there are so many places
where you can build revenue apart from
your services and Retail products I want
you to think about is this something
that I'd like to do would I like to have
multiple places in a buffer so that if
ever I have a slow month in my business
can I still make enough money to pay my
rent and my living expenses and all that
stuff so think about your goals for the
next year or two and maybe what
direction you want to grow in my fifth
and final business tip is to get help in
your business and Outsource it wherever
possible here's the thing we cannot do
everything by ourselves if you want to
grow out of the treatment room and focus
on your business instead of just being
in your business you're going to need to
build a team whether that's other
estheticians that you hire
or an administrative person someone who
helps you with operations in your
business there's so much room for growth
when you want to scale it's not my
expertise but my friend Reya Schwartz is
a seven figure esthetician and she has a
course called building your seven figure
team she specifically teaches you step
by step how to go from solo to having
your first employee your third employee
your fifth your 10th Etc
I definitely recommend that you check it
out there's a link below to learn more
but what about even before that when
you're solo and you don't necessarily
have the client base or the revenue in
order to start hiring
does that mean that you're stuck
absolutely not there are two main ways
that you can start scaling your business
even when you're still solo the first is
outsourcing work online and the second
is through training and education to
level up your business and your skills
so let's chat Outsourcing work here are
some of the big things that you can
Outsource and how to get help with it
first of all graphic design for Flyers
social media or business cards you can
find someone on Fiverr on onlinejobs.ph
and work with someone in the Philippines
who they actually do amazing work you
could check out upwork for Freelancers
or work with a professional who
specializes in Beauty businesses such as
Piper De Young or daring creative two
amazing women who have Graphic Design
Studios
also social media posting if you have a
hard time staying consistent with social
media creating Graphics posting staying
consistent you might want to look at
some of the same places Fiverr online
jobs or upwork to hire a social media
assistant
next thing you could look at Outsourcing
is turning your videos into blog posts I
have a much easier time and faster time
making videos but I know that having
written blog posts a lot of my
audience loves written blog posts and I
get found easier through Google with
them so you might want to find a great
copywriter on Fiverr or one of the other
websites that I mentioned and then take
get them to take your videos and turn
them into written blog posts
also you can do the same kind of thing
and take some of your content from
Instagram and get a virtual assistant on
some of these same websites to turn your
content into emails so taking Instagram
content reusing it into emails get your
virtual assistant to send an email to
your email list weekly using your
Instagram content as inspiration
also what about getting a website up and
running and updating it there are so
many good people who are great at
websites one person I can recommend is
Kirsten Voss her and her team are
amazing for this so check out
kirstenfoss.com and she can create a
beautiful Spa website for you
one other thing that I definitely
recommend is outsourcing of Photography
and video you can find a great
photographer in local Facebook groups or
search photography hashtags on Instagram
and I'm sure you're going to find
someone who's going to do some great
photos for you and like I mentioned
before the second place where you can
really level up and scale your business
and get help from the outside is through
taking courses and investing in coaches
who can help you fill in some of the
gaps in your knowledge and your
expertise and the things that you
naturally are good at so there are
hundreds of amazing coaches and
Educators in the spa and esthetician
industry
um and it would take me forever to list
them all out but one person that I can
tell you who might be able to help you
in some ways is me I know little of me
I'm just being modest here so I teach
Facebook and Instagram ads to Beauty
profession Nationals and I've had
hundreds of estheticians take my course
the ad lab where they learn how to get
in front of thousands of new clients
every single week and book their dream
clients for facial Services waxing
um laser hair removal lashes makeup
whatever it is you do there are so many
new people out there who would love to
find you
my biggest tip for getting in front of
new clients consistently is to invest a
little bit of time and money into
Facebook and Instagram ads they work
amazingly so if you want to check out
the ad lab you can go to
www.joinadlab.com
and of course give me a shout in the
comments if you have any questions about
it
all right thank you so much for watching
this video I really hope that this has
helped you wherever you're at in your
solo esthetician journey to get some
inspiration of oh my gosh these are the
five things that I can do to really
level up my business just to remind you
what they are first of all have a system
in place to consistently get in front of
new people every single week I
especially love Facebook and Instagram
ads for this number two put out
consistent content anywhere you choose
to be consistent with it and it will
naturally grow your business and have
more people find you number three create
community and connection with your
existing clients through email marketing
number four build multiple income
streams in your business there's so much
opportunity as an esthetician to have
your services make up one part of your
revenue and have all these other income
streams for buffering your financial
situation and then the final tip is to
get help in in your business to
Outsource things when possible and also
know when it's time to take classes and
invest in coaches that can help you
level up
thank you so much for watching I hope
you appreciate this video let me know in
the comments what you think if you're
going to be trying any of these five
ideas and of course if you liked it give
it a thumbs up it really will help other
estheticians like you find my videos
