Transcripts
well I've had people come to me over the
years and and say Kyle I really think
that I've committed the unforgivable sin
and they're very serious about it and I
say what can I do
so I want to take some time and answer
this question but first before we answer
it we need to understand exactly what
the unforgivable sin this is part of the
problem people don't know what it means
so Jesus talks about it in a number of
different passages we read about it in
Matthew 12. we read about it in Mark 3
also in Luke Chapter 12. so let me just
read one of these passages Matthew 12.
and so I tell you every kind of sin and
slander can be forgiven
but blasphemy against the spirit will
not be forgiven
so Jesus makes clear that every kind of
sin that you can think of can be
forgiven murder lying stealing adultery
you name it all of these sins are and
sins like them can be forgiven so all we
need to do is is cry out like the the
tax collector and Jesus's Parable and
say father forgive me Father have mercy
on me it's when you trust that Jesus
Christ died on the cross to pay the
penalty of your sin when you trust in
him and his work
so every kind of sin that we commit can
be forgiven except for one
and this sin is commonly known as the
unforgivable sin and it's pretty clear
to me how what this sin is and the way
that the Bible describes it it is
someone who willfully and stubbornly
rejects Christ and the gospel even after
the spirit has given you some kind of
gospel Clarity so so this person
understands quite well what they are
saying no to you you you see what is at
issue you see what Christ has done you
understand the gospel message you you've
tasted of it in on some level and you
look at Christ's offer of forgiveness
and you say no it's not for me
John Calvin offers a similar answer when
writing on this topic he defines the
unforgivable sin this way
he says Those who commit the
unpardonable sin with evil intention
resist God's truth although by its
brightness they are so touched that they
cannot claim ignorance
so this unforgivable sin can very often
overlap with apostasy now apostasy means
that it means someone who belonged to
the faith but then decided to turn away
from it so at one point you profess
Jesus as your lord and your savior
profess that's the key word but then you
abandon him and and said I I don't want
him I don't believe in him I don't want
to take part in him any longer you
renounce Jesus Christ
but we do have to understand that you
don't have to be an apostate to commit
the unforgivable sin you can resist
Jesus all of your life much like the
Pharisees did a willful resistance
towards him and you can eventually at
some point commit the unforgivable sin
now you might be thinking to yourself
well Kyle what is it what does it mean
when uh for me because I I've resisted
Christ all all my life and and and and I
think to myself I want him now but I
think for all my years of willful
resistance maybe I've committed the
unforgivable sin
is it too late for me well I would
answer that by saying no it's not too
late for you at all in fact you have not
committed the unforgivenable sin and the
reason that I know this is is because of
the fact that you aren't or that you uh
you are worried about it
you see the person who commits the
unforgivable sin is is not worried about
it their heart is hardened they they've
abandoned Christ and they don't care
about it you they they love themselves
they they love their way of life
but if you're saddened because you
believe that you have you have committed
the unforgivable sin well that right
there is an indication it's a reliable
sign that you have not committed it so I
would counsel you then to cry out to God
and to seek his Mercy to repent of your
sin to turn from your sin and to trust
Jesus and he will save you
and and when you trust Jesus and you'll
be saved you don't need to any longer
worry about what your sins will do to
you eternally Romans 8 1 says that there
is now no condemnation for you
so for all of those today who hear Jesus
call
today is the day of salvation that's
what the Bible tells us don't put it off
any longer don't put it off any longer
because you and I don't even know how
much longer you will live you you don't
know how much longer God will have this
offer of forgiveness on the table for
you understand that
there was a pastor years ago named
Adrian Rogers fantastic preacher
and one time he was preaching and he
noticed that there was a man who was who
was listening very intently to Adrian's
preaching
and Pastor Rogers he extended the
invitation to trust Christ as his Lord
and his Savior and the guy was sitting
there in the balcony but he he got up
and he just started pacing back and
forth back and forth a bit
and then he eventually left the building
now two weeks later Adrian got a call
that someone was in the hospital and
they were dying from terminal cancer and
they only had weeks to live
so when he got to the hospital he he
realized that this was the man that he
saw pacing back and forth in the balcony
and he said to him he said sir didn't I
see you at church a few weeks ago pacing
back and forth in the balcony and the
man said yes that was me
and he said well did you trust Jesus
Christ as your lord and savior that day
and he said no I didn't
and he said well what is stopping you
from doing that sir you you only have a
few weeks to live it sounds like
and he said sir you don't understand
when I rejected Christ on that day
pastor
something died in me
nah I don't want anything to do
with your Jesus and what he has to offer
friends God is a god of Second Chances
and third and four chances
but there does come a point in which he
says
that is enough
therefore I plead with you I plead with
you
call to the Lord while he may be found
call to him why he's near Isaiah 55 says
seek his forgiveness
and you will be forgiven
well I hope you've been helped by this
video in some way if you have just go
ahead and smash the like button that
will push this video out to more people
that can truly be blessed by it well
thank you so much and God bless you in
the way
