Transcripts
all right so this video we're checking
out the beta fpv air 65 this is their
ultral light entry into the tiny web
space I did a video a while back on the
happy model ultral light the mulus 6
2024 this is 17.7 G I'll link this video
in the video description if you missed
that video um but they have well beta F
has now come up with their versions of
the ultral light and uh mine weigh 17
although in the marketing materials they
sent me it says it'll be 17.1 G um I'll
show you the weights here and scale a
little bit later in the video but yeah
they're both 17 G there's two versions
the one on the left here is the racing
version and the one on the right is the
freestyle version and I'll talk about
what the differences are here but uh
just wanted to note that yeah finally we
are going away from the one size fits
all you know before a new whoop mod
comes out and it is going to be for all
Pilots freestyle or racing whether you
like it or not and I'm glad to see that
beta FB is going away from that um they
made a model specifically tailored for
people that want to race and then they
have another model specifically tailored
for those that want to do freestyle so
let's talk about what's new and what is
different about these um so first off
we've seen all these parts except for
one in Pre previous videos and let me
just kind of Point what out what all
those ports are so we have the frame
this is their ultra light frame I've
done videos on that before the motors
are the 0702 SE Motors I've done videos
on that before as well and then the
canopy the ultral Light canopy they're I
think they're all Air branded so I knew
eventually a uh full bind and fly model
was going to come out but I went back
and forth with beta fpv on these models
quite a bit they sent me some prototypes
to test out and gave them some feedback
and this is ultimately what they've
ended up with the new part of course
here is the flight controller which is
what makes this so light and um well
they're they're calling this the air
flight controller um I have I'll I'll
show you what it looks like here they
have a um an un soldered model here so
this is what the flight controller looks
like uh get your rubber grommets and
screws for mounting get your antenna for
the VTX and they've got the
180° um battery connector of course BT
2.0 that's what they're famous for so I
also have done videos on this one this
one showed it before in previous video
this is the new part this is the one
that um makes this model so light and uh
it is 0.8 mm thick so very thin
PCB and it has the flight controller it
has the 41 ESC so there's uh four 5
amp's on here with uh blue J firmware it
has the VTX 25 to 400 m power switchable
but this one does not have the receiver
so the express all receiver they decided
to leave it out on this
board uh as you can see here it is
attached on top right there uh there's
some heat shrink around there and it is
this receiver you see before this is
their one with the flat antenna uh this
one and this was running the latest
Express lrs firmware this um flight
controller is running a new processor
it's a g
473 MCU which is a lot faster than the F
411s uh has more Arts as well they got
rid of the USB port and they're using
the um a t plug now which is a little
bit lighter than the metal Port uh but
then you need the extender and those are
included in the um in the full build so
this is the USBC to GST plug those are
included if you've seen some previous
videos on their the Pavo Pico Etc they
they've kind of gone to this plug on all
the their models just because it just
sheds some weight off of there and then
there's no motor plugs on these you have
to solder directly to the board but you
see the motor pads are pretty big on
here now um happy model made a diamond
shape board kind of like this a while
back but had some issues and they just
continue that and then they made this um
newer board the Super X I think is what
they call it which is as you can see it
is um um I guess Square shaped with some
curves on there and that one has the
receiver VTX flight controller all
together so the receiver is actually
built into that board however I've heard
that um they've had some issues with the
see the soer pads are really tiny on
that one had some issues with the uh
flight controller I guess burning up
when people sold her to them so they
there there's a new version of this
board out as the version 2.0 that have
the motor plugs soldered on from the
factory so um apparently that will
dissuade people from soldering directly
to the board can't apparently that will
cause the board to
fail uh so the version two has the motor
motor plugs on them uh directly whereas
the one I have on here which you're
seeing is a version one they soldered
these motors directly onto the pads but
what would happen is and people got
these models they would uh burn a motor
out then they put a new motor on solder
it on and then you know most people
aren't the best um skilled
solders and they would add basically too
much heat to the board which would fry
the uh little chips there which are the
mosfets for the the uh um esc's and
that's how these boards would fail so
they went to motor plugs in these so
there's a lot of trade-offs when going
with these really tiny Parts here and
dealing with um basically beginner level
people that don't know how to really
solder that well they have they have the
wrong equipment they're adding too much
heat not enough heat Etc and damaging
the boards when they work on them so
having these bigger pads here I think
helps mitigate that um but in order to
you know you cuz you only have so much
space to fit stuff on the board in order
to sort of get everything in here and um
have these larger pads they decide to uh
in this in this Le this initial
iteration of the air 65 so you have a
flight controller with a separate
Express LS receiver and I think that um
if you have say like if you if you want
to go with a different receiver like
free sky or Crossfire then you could do
that um because obviously it does not
have a built-in receiver so for those of
you that were looking for products that
don't have a built-in Express receiver
for whatever reason you hate Express RS
then yeah this is a nice way to go you
can actually get the uh version of this
without um well you could probably I
don't know if it actually comes without
expresss or not but maybe you could ask
them for a version without the receiver
and then add your own receiver so uh
anyway this is basically the key to
getting the weight down as much as
possible so here's the other side of the
board here so it does have the built-in
btx uh you know it's kind of interesting
the the the previous board had the
built-in receiver but it but the the VTX
would be on separately and that's what I
did in my my custom build like this is
from November of 2023 this is their old
5 amp board um and then the VTX they are
separate this year weighs 17.3 g but
it's not there's no canopy because it's
an inverted design so uh you know
obviously uh you can get the weight down
to around the 17 g mark fairly easily uh
in fact what I'm probably going to do is
take this board and build an inverted
version of this without the canopy cuz I
forget the we of the canopy but I could
probably get this pretty much well under
17 G and get even better performance
okay so what is different between these
two models so everything's the same
except for the motor KV and the props so
the uh freestyle version comes with the
HQ ultral light prop and if it was 703
SC motor but it's 23,000
KV and the race version comes with the
geman 129s prop so this is their ultral
light version of their prop but this
motor KV I believe is yeah this one is
27,000 KV so 4,000 KV more and honestly
I I couldn't get a clear answer from
them as to the reasons why they
chose uh the the prop and the KV the
motor for what they did but it makes
sense when you fly them so in terms of
flight characteristics on this one here
the the lower KV with this prop is this
is a I think a
slightly lighter prop than the jump van
so uh this has the lower K has a little
bit more torque and so when you're
flying this freestyle you have a little
bit more control uh in terms of like
what you want to do in terms of throttle
control plus when you're at Full
Throttle which you'll often be at Full
Throttle more often in freestyle when
you're trying to do like power loops and
other typ types of Tricks the um motor
the lower motor KV is actually better
because uh you don't have huge voltage
sags which is what you want to avoid now
when you have a racing you know setup
here with the higher KV with this prop
here I feel like it has a little bit
more grip in the turns which is better
for racing but uh this is definitely not
great for freestyle I did try to do some
freestyle with this and um whenever you
go Full Throttle it you get such so much
voltage sag that you end up not being
able to do the tricks um in the same way
you can with the freestyle version so um
definitely if you are more of a
freestyle flyer get the freestyle
version and vice versa cuz if you try
and get the one version and do the other
types of flying you'll find that the the
performance is not as great for that
type of flying and so get the one that
that the uh version is intended for
additionally uh they have different pit
tunes for the different versions the
race version has a different pit tune
from the freestyle version of course
that makes total sense and the tunes I
feel are really good for each type of
flying I didn't feel like I had any
control issues or kind of weird
oscillations or vibrations everything
seemed to work really well on the tunes
that they were sent with and I flew
these with the uh 300 milliamp lava
lipos from bpv with the uh BT 2.0
connector there is uh as you probably
guys know there's a 260 milliamp hour
version of this battery which is a
little bit shorter weighs 1.1 G less I
don't have those yet they are on the way
supposedly I I haven't received any
tracking information yet so I had to get
this video out on basically based on a
certain embargo time so I will have to
make another video later on that battery
on this setup here I'm wondering if the
pids might be different or might need to
be different for the lighter battery cuz
what you're going to probably end up
with on that battery is less flight time
of course and uh probably a lot better
performance but less flight time so uh
in terms of flight time on this battery
for each of these I got roughly 3
minutes of flight time uh coming down to
about 3.75 volts after the um after I
unplugged it so I always check the
voltage after I unplug and the voltage
recover to by 3.75 volts if you run this
these batteries all the way down to
where the uh whoop just falls out of the
sky I believe the voltage will cover
back to about 3.4 volts and it'll sag
below 3 volts like 2.9 volts um you
don't really get that much more flight
time if you do that and I'm not sure if
it's worth it to destroy your batteries
because if you keep doing that to these
batteries even though they are very
resistant to that kind of abuse uh you
do uh reduce the longevity of this
battery so just something to keep in
mind but you know if money is No Object
and you just want to destroy the
batteries and buy more by all means uh
go for that all right so here is the
weight of the racer version 17 G and the
weight of the freestyle version oh this
one's 17.1 G and then with the with the
batteries we're at 25.4 for the
freestyle and then the race version with
the battery is uh
25.4 oh in in case I forgot to mention
the camera is the same as the one from
the previous generation the CO3 I
believe is what it's called so no
difference there in terms of field of
view or image quality really only the
only big difference here is the F
controller that is the main uh reason
why this is so light and of course
they've add that you know external
Express L receiver and then they've
removed the USB port Now using that GST
plug and then you know um terms of the
the the the the right angled or the um
180° connector there I think it is
pretty much exactly the right length
unlike the mobula 6 it just goes in
there and then go ahead and plug it
in and you can see it's it's got enough
length there so the battery is not that
far forward and of course that maintains
that nice balance when you're flying all
right so anyway one last look around
around everything here's the bottom
there with the motor wires soldered
on and yeah I've had I've had many
crashes with this already it's done very
well none of the props have broke uh yet
and I I've cleaned off all the grass and
stuff that I landed in some grass wiped
all that off but it cleans up pretty
well it's holding up very well and
crashes so far and uh yeah I'll have
another video later on this one with the
260 m power light but whenever that
comes in and I'll have a whole video on
that one not sure if I'll put that on
the main Channel or the second Channel
but um I will have a video on that one
and give you my thoughts on that but
overall pretty happy with these um if
you're a eracer definitely check it out
if you're a freestyler definitely check
out this one think you're going to find
the performances are pretty good for
that type of flying for a tiny whop of
course keep in mind it is still a tiny
whoop and hopefully uh we'll see this
trend continue where the weight keeps
going down um I'd like to see 16 G tiny
whoops in bind and flies if possible you
know could be could be done I think if
they make a version of this with the
without the canopy make it inverted um
you know get you know you can use the uh
plastic screws instead of the metal
screws Etc you know maybe come up with a
new version of the flight controller
with the built-in Express lever receiver
maybe a lighter camera um there's ways
you can shave weight off of here even
more so perhaps sometime down the road
later in 2024 we'll see a 16 G version
of this one but 17 GS is the lightest I
think in terms of a pre-built tiny whoop
and um yeah links will be down in the
video description if you want to check
it out what I'll do for this video talk
to you guys in the next one
