Q & A
What is the main idea conveyed at the beginning of the script?
-The main idea is that our minds are powerful and can significantly influence our lives, not in a metaphysical way, but through our beliefs and how we use our minds.
What examples are mentioned to illustrate the power of beliefs?
-The script mentions scientific studies where people were given a placebo pill and experienced real benefits because they believed the pill was effective.
What is the placebo effect and how does it relate to the script's message?
-The placebo effect is when people experience real physical changes in their bodies because they believe they have taken a real treatment. This illustrates how powerful our beliefs can be in influencing our physical and mental states.
How does the script describe the impact of negative thoughts on our bodies?
-The script explains that negative thoughts can lead to physical changes in the body, such as stress, fatigue, and depression, creating a cycle of negative physical and mental health.
What analogy is used to explain the process of becoming who you want to be?
-The script uses the analogy of an actor playing a role, suggesting that by acting and believing in the role you want to become, you can eventually become that person.
What is the first step suggested to break the cycle of negative thoughts?
-The first step is to imagine and believe that you are already the person you want to be, even if it feels like a lie at first, because this positive belief can eventually become reality.
Why is it important to 'fake it till you make it' according to the script?
-Faking it till you make it is important because by consistently acting like the person you want to become, you reinforce those behaviors and beliefs until they become a natural part of who you are.
How does self-doubt affect the process of achieving goals?
-Self-doubt can lead to failure because it undermines confidence and causes second-guessing, which can result in mistakes and a lack of effort. Believing in success is crucial for actually achieving it.
What role does an actor's belief in their character play in the analogy?
-An actor's belief in their character is crucial because it shows the importance of fully committing to the role without doubt, which parallels how we should commit to the roles we want to take on in our own lives.
What is the final piece of advice given in the script to avoid feeling terrible?
-The final advice is to avoid seeking validation from others and focus on becoming who you believe you should be, as relying on others can make it harder to achieve personal growth.
Outlines
🧠 The Power of Belief and the Placebo Effect
This paragraph discusses the profound influence our thoughts and beliefs have on our lives. It introduces the concept that our minds are more powerful than we realize, using the placebo effect as evidence. The placebo effect is demonstrated through a study where participants, both given real and fake pills, reported improvements due to their belief in the pill's benefits. The narrative then shifts to illustrate how our beliefs can trigger physical reactions, such as fear and relief, affecting our mood and energy levels. The paragraph emphasizes the mind's control over our physical state, suggesting that negative thoughts can lead to depression and a cycle of failure, while positive thinking can break this cycle and improve our well-being.
🎭 Faking It Till You Make It: The Role of Belief in Personal Growth
The second paragraph delves into the strategy of 'faking it till you make it,' suggesting that by pretending to be what we aspire to be, we can eventually become it. It emphasizes the importance of understanding the core of what defines our goals, using the example of becoming a painter to illustrate the concept of regular practice. The paragraph advises against self-doubt and highlights the need for full commitment to the role we are playing in our lives. It draws a parallel to acting, where an actor fully embodies the character to achieve authenticity. The message is clear: by believing in ourselves and our abilities without doubt, we can overcome challenges and achieve our objectives. However, it also touches on the potential downsides of seeking external validation, suggesting that sometimes, focusing on personal growth without the need for others can be more beneficial.

Transcripts
we are what we think about ourselves
your mind is more powerful than you can
realize but not in that metaphysical
spiritual kind of way because if you
don't use it properly you'll only end up
in an endless cycle of failure with no
way out I'm going to show you examples
of how your beliefs can actually change
you and how you can take advantage of
that so that you can become who you want
now before you consider this just
another cheap motivational that
you've already heard there are literal
studies that specifically try and
understand how strong your mind can be
when you believe in something you see
what they do is they call up a bunch of
random people the scientists tell these
people they're going to give them a pill
that will give them some benefits it's
going to improve their mood it's going
to increase their energy and it's going
to help them relax but there is
something the test subjects don't know
about they are split into two separate
groups the first group gets the pill
they were told about with all these
benefits while the second group gets a
fake pill that has no real medical
ingredient in it now when looking at the
results the scientists realized that
both groups reported improvements in
their mood in their energy just as they
were described but how could that happen
if only one group got the real pill well
the answer is both groups believed they
are getting the real pill so even if the
second group got the fake medicine
because they believed they are getting
the real one with all its benefits their
bodies responded to that this is the
placebo effect you can see real
improvements in your body just by
believing it's a real effect that's been
studied and proven it's not just fake
but how is this relevant in
becoming who you want want to be you
can't just take a fake pill and believe
it will help you achieve your goals yes
but there is something very important
these studies show us that most people
don't pay attention to and it's the
exact reason why we want to take
advantage of our minds imagine you're
standing outside at the bus station
waiting for the bus to arrive on the
other side of the road you see a guy
walking in a weird way he seems kind of
angry while walking he turns his head
and sees you looking at him suddenly he
starts running across the street
straight towards you you panic what the
is going on your heart starts
beating you start feeling shaky you
don't know what to do he's coming
towards you fast but right before he
reaches you he gets hit by the bus even
if you're still in shock a little bit
you start exhaling in relief what I want
you to understand from this story is
this you believed you were in danger so
your body physically reacted to that you
had no way to know if you were in actual
danger or not but you believed it and
that believing made your heartbeat
faster made your muscles tense up and be
ready to go and the same happened after
he got hit by the bus because you
believed you were safe now you started
relaxing your body slowed down and if
you can see real physical changes in
your body just by believing something
that means your mind can control your
body no so like look I'm
controlling my body that's just the
basic definition the deeper definition
is this your mind has power over your
physical self this means it controls how
you feel how your body responds to
things even what your organs are
supposed to do what goes through your
mind has a real reaction in your
physical body think about how powerful
that can be and we can use that because
if your mind can control all of this you
can start to understand so much more
about why you end up having periods of
depression and sadness imagine
constantly thinking about how your
life is you think about how there's
nothing good with it how there's nothing
worth doing what's even the point
anymore imagine having constant negative
thoughts it's no wonder your body starts
reacting to that you start having less
energy you start feeling slow and you
don't feel like doing anything anymore
maybe you don't even feel like eating or
taking a shower anymore and this just
feeds back the cycle you're not getting
anything done so you feel bad you
believe you are worthless so you
physically feel like and you can't
get anything done like that this goes on
over and over and it all starts from
some negative thoughts if you believe to
be depressed you will start feeling
depressed until you believe even harder
that you are depressed until it becomes
your reality negative thoughts make your
body body feel stressed which means bad
hormones like cortisol which prevent you
from sleeping which make you more tired
and you can't get anything done again
because you're tired all the time you
start gaining weight and feeling
sluggish and so many more negative
reactions they are real physical
substances that your body releases just
because of what you think just some
simple thoughts become real physical
substances that mess with your body you
will never get out of a bad period if
you keep believing you are stuck in the
bad period how could you get get better
if you don't even believe you can get
better it needs to start somewhere so
what you're saying is if you ever feel
sad just stop feeling sad LOL while it's
not that simple the first step to fix
this cycle is still very doable for
everyone imagine you're out of a bad
period what would that look like imagine
you're not depressed you don't feel like
anymore what would you feel instead
imagine you're happy you're in a good
mood you're getting stuff done but why
would you even imagine it you already
are happy in a good mood getting stuff
done now you might say that's not true
but it doesn't have to be true you just
believe that it's true you just lie to
yourself but this is a good lie even if
it's just a lie now if you repeat it
long enough eventually it will become
true there's a very popular saying for
this and there's a reason why it's so
popular it's because it works even if it
sounds like it just works you
just fake it till you make it you just
pretend what you want to be you pretend
you are not depressed you pretend you
are confident or or you pretend you are
funny or whatever you want but even
though a lot of people know about this
already most of them never make it and
that's because they are pretending in
the wrong way you have to look at it in
a more basic way imagine you want to
become a painter you believe you are a
painter at the most basic level what
does being a painter mean what is a
painter very simply a painter is just
someone who paints okay but that's not
all does he paint one time does painting
one time make you a painter I don't
think so so what else is it then if it's
not just one time maybe it's someone who
paints multiple times that sounds a
little bit closer but if you think about
it you could say the definition of a
painter is someone who paints regularly
and you can apply this to anything else
you might want to become someone with an
aesthetic physique well someone with an
aesthetic physique doesn't lift just one
dumbbell and that's it someone with an
aesthetic physique is someone who lifts
regularly so if we clarified what it
means to be something the only way to
make it a reality is to fake it the
right way imagine you're an actor
playing the role of who you want to
become an actor believes he's the
character he's playing he acts like the
character would act so by this idea you
have to act and do what your ideal
character would do because when you keep
acting like this over and over
eventually you stop being an actor and
you actually become the character if you
believe you are something and you act
like it long enough eventually you
become what you believed but while
imagining you're an actor there is one
last very important thing you need to
remember unless you want to fail you see
when an actor plays a character there is
one very specific thing he doesn't do I
remember seeing a meme that kind of
shows what I'm trying to say imagine one
day you're at work or out for a drink or
doing the shopping when someone shouts
cut and it turns out you are Gary Oldman
all along that's how good of an actor he
is the point of this is that basically
he doesn't leave any room for any doubts
just as you can get anything done by
believing you can get it done it's just
as easy to doubt yourself to believe
that you will fail and you will end up
failing this way you will second guess
yourself and make mistakes that you
wouldn't have made normally you can
still fail even if you don't doubt
yourself success is never 100%
guaranteed but by believing you fail
before you even try it you're already
starting from a bad position how can you
achieve anything if you don't even
believe you're capable of achieving it
if you already think it's impossible
it's going to be impossible for you the
good actor just never doubts his
character you 100% believe in it you
become the actor and even if you fail
you know you tried your best and you can
learn from it so just be a good actor
but one of the biggest reasons why you
might be feeling terrible in the first
place is because you believe you're
alone and you need someone for that
however the truth is you probably don't
need someone in fact you might be better
off not trying to find someone so you
can have an easier time becoming who you
believe just as I explained in this
