Transcripts
hi singers Mickey here with your singing
tip of the week so a couple things first
of all I am still sick cuz apparently I
don't have an immune system so there's
that and today you are watching this
video on the 22nd of October and my new
record comes out on the 31st so we're
about a week away from my record coming
out on all platforms I encourage you to
purchase a copy on iTunes or Amazon or
wherever you get your music from and
it's a great way to support this channel
so I can continue making singing
tutorials for all of you this is the CD
it is called no resolution and I am very
very proud of it the artwork was
designed by my creative partner AR who's
the other person cover in today's video
I'm going to provide you with an
apartment friendly warm-up routine I
know this is an issue for a lot of
singers that live in apartments and when
they try to warm up their neighbors
complain this form of routine is going
to allow you to completely warm up your
voice throughout all of your registers
without earning you an eviction notice
the seven exercises covered in this
routine are vocal fry' humming the lip
trill these straws straws and water and
lululu so grab your water bottle and
let's get started the first exercise is
vocal fry so you can pick any pitch it
doesn't matter where you start and
you're just gonna cycle through between
vocal fry and that pitch like so
now this might sound like it wouldn't be
good for your voice but it's actually
encouraging your vocal cords to vibrate
and close in a healthy way
and it's very gentle on your voice we're
just starting to really wake up that
voice the next exercise we're going to
do is humming and I'm going to be using
a wonderful little tool called a pitch
pipe this is great for if you have
relative pitch and you need a reference
note rather than perfect pitch but you
don't want to use a loud instrument such
as a keyboard or a guitar because you're
warming up in an apartment we're going
to start in the key of F on a descending
five-tone scale
[Music]
and I would just take it as low as you
can to wake up your low range the next
exercise is the lip trill you'll notice
a lot of the exercises that I've
included in this warm-up are the semi
occluded exercises and the reason for
that is we're blocking some of the
airflow which gives us the benefit of
that back pressure and makes these
exercises very effective and also keeps
them pretty quiet so we're not going to
be disturbing the people around us
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
and you can safely take this one and a
half octave arpeggio all the way through
your high register without worrying that
it's not going to be gentle on your
voice our next exercise is v like a
vacuum cleaner on an ascending arpeggio
starting in the key of C
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
the next exercise we're going to do is
straws so I'm gonna use just a regular
old drinking straw and I'm gonna pick a
yellow one and we're gonna start on a
one and a half octave arpeggio again
starting in the key of C
[Music]
[Music]
this looks so weird I'm like an elephant
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
obviously feel free to go as high as you
need to to get your high range and of
course you can use a smaller diameter
straw like a coffee stirrer to really
challenge yourself the next exercise on
our list is straws and water so all
you're gonna do is you're gonna take
your straw and your bottle of water and
you're going to insert your straw into
the water about an inch down from the
surface and we're going to do sirens so
we're gonna go from our chest voice or a
low voice all the way through our head
voice our high voice and back down again
and we're going to try to create an even
stream of bubbles that's gonna tell us
that we're exhaling at an even rate and
getting a nice even intensity throughout
our range so take a nice deep breath and
blow
[Music]
let's do a few more of those take a nice
deep breath very nice and you can try to
go a little bit higher with each one
let's do one more deep breath very nice
I just gave myself a little bit of a
bath here and you can reward yourself
with a little sip of water at the end
delicious
our final exercise is lu lu lu and our
breathy head voice we're gonna start in
the key of a-minor
[Music]
obviously take that as high as you need
to to get into your very very high head
voice congratulations my friends
that concludes our complete apartment
friendly vocal warmup routine so you can
get the job done without getting evicted
I hope this was helpful to you if it was
please like and subscribe and I will see
you back here next Monday for another
vocal tip with me Mickey thank you so
much for watching I love you so much and
until next week happy singing
