to be jumping into the villainous side of Naruto with Orochimaru and speaking of anime villains

my favorite at the end of this video but when it comes to Orochimaru he is definitely one of
the more interestingly designed characters of Naruto and I've always been very drawn to him
as a character and on the subject of creating characters and especially focusing on within

like I always do so let's go ahead and dive into building orochimaro in Dungeon and Dragons who is
completely obsessed with extending his life and learning every Jutsu he possibly can but first
things first we gotta pick a race considering his snake-like nature there's absolutely no way
we're gonna be able to avoid going with a Yuan T pure blood these are much more Snake related for
the most part they get features like dark vision and poison immunity they're granted some innate
spell casting like poison spray animal friendship and then at third level they get suggestion and
then lastly they get magic resistance which is going to be very helpful for resisting somebody
else's Jutsu because this gives you advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical
effects when it comes to choosing a background I want to kind of go through orochimaru's life
a bit so we're going to start at the beginning and his General learnings about necromancy and
trying to elongate his life wanting to learn about these things and his General curiosity
led me to the background witherbloom student this is from The strix Haven books it gives you skill
proficiencies in nature and survival as well as tool proficiency season an herbalism kit and
while weatherbloom students really like to read up on the intricacies of necromancy life and death
they're granted some additional spell casting so if we get access to any spells throughout this
build we're automatically granted some additional spells to be able to learn and we'll definitely
keep those in mind when we're choosing some spells later in this build but before we dive into any
spells let's sort out some stats and a starting class we'll be using standard point buy from the
player's handbook and we'll be using the rules from Tasha's which allow us to reallocate some
racial stats to whatever ability score we want usually you're on T's get 1.2 intelligence and
two points into Charisma but we're gonna throw that out the window and use them in other places
so when it comes to strength we're just going to dump it because orochimaro doesn't really focus
on pure strength he's much more Nimble so we're going to take dexterity and bump that to 14. then
our constitution working a bump to 14 he isn't exactly easy to kill so we need some help to round
them out then our intelligence we're gonna bump all the way up to 15 and then get another plus
one from our race facial modifier he is known for being incredibly smart and he likes to study and
learn as many Jutsu as possible so having a high intelligence score really helps with that then our
wisdom we're gonna bump to 12 and then take the two points that would have gone into Charisma and
put it in here boosting it up to 14. this doesn't leave us with any additional points so we're just
gonna dump Charisma when it comes to choosing a starting class we're going to lean a bit more into
ninja stuff right from the get-go as Orochimaru is just getting his feet wet becoming a ninja
before he really gets that hunger for learning as many Jutsu as possible so for our starting
class we're going to be diving into monk when you decide to become a monk you get access to simple
weapons and short swords which is going to be very important because we do see Orochimaru using short
swords you also get saving throws and strength and dexterity and you can choose two skills we'll
grab stealth because you're obviously a ninja and then we'll also grab acrobatics because
if anybody wants to Grapple you you're kind of snake-like and this allows you to Slither out
of anybody's grasp then at first level of Monk we get unarmored defense along your armor class
to be 10 plus your dexterity modifier plus your wisdom modifier also at first level we get martial
arts allowing you to attack with unarmed attacks and using your dexterity modifier for the attacks
and damage rolls your current damage dice for these unarmed attacks are 1d4 but they do go
up if you level up in Monk and then finally if you use your attack action to attack with any
sort of normal monk related attack you can make one additional unarmed strike as a bonus action
then its second level of Monk you get access to key allowing you to utilize some of that chakra
within you at this level you only have two key points to use but you can use them for things like
fluria blows allowing you to take two attacks as your bonus action instead of one patient defense
allowing you to spend one key point to use the Dodge action as a bonus action or a step of the
wind allowing you to use the disengage or Dash action as a bonus action additionally at second
level you get unarmored movement boosting your overall speed by 10 feet then a third level of
monkey get deflect missiles allowing you to take any projectiles coming at you and just completely
redirect them your key points get upgraded from just two points to to three points and you get
to choose a monastic tradition or as it's also known a monk subclass this is where orochimaru's
obsession with life and death is gonna start coming into play so we're going to take the monk
subclass long death monks who take this subclass are completely obsessed with the meaning and
mechanics of dying and that just seems so fitting for Orochimaru that there's no way I could avoid
taking this subclass when you choose this subclass you get a special feature called Touch of death so
whenever you reduce a creature within five feet of you to zero hit points you gain temporary hit
points equal to your wisdom modifier plus your monk level which isn't a ton but it still can
be helpful with five temporary hit points coming to you anytime that you knock somebody out then
at fourth level we're actually gonna jump right over to a multi-class right away because this is
probably the point where Orochimaru starts getting obsessed with learning every Jutsu imaginable
and there's one particular class in Dungeons and Dragons that can learn more Jutsu or in this case
spells than any other class and that's obviously a wizard at first level of wizard get get some
spell casting and wizards get a hell of a lot of spell casting they practically have an unlimited
amount of spells they can copy into their book so if you wind up stealing some Ninja Scrolls at
certain points you can totally just copy those into your Spellbook just expanding your Jutsu
knowledge but even at first level of wizard you do start off with a spell book that contains all
of your spells and it's currently filled with six spells in your Spellbook and by default
you're automatically getting two wizard spells every time that you level up in Wizard but if
you find additional wizard Scrolls to acquire or steal you can add those to your Spellbook as well
it does cost some resources but you already have provision to installed so you could just as easily
steal those resources if you need to and speaking of that spell casting you also get Arcane recovery
so once per day when you finish a short rest you can recover some of the casting energy or your
chakra or in this case spell slots so that way you can cast more due to or spells throughout the day
only trick is that the spell slots recovered can have a combined level that's equal to less than
half of your wizard level and you still can never recover any spell Slots of 6 level or higher but
that's not an issue for you yet because you only have two spell slots at first level right now and
on top of that you do have three can trips you learn as well but instead of jumping into all the
can trips and spells level by level since you do learn so many of them I'm Gonna Save all of them
for the next part of this video so that way we can really power through them but for now let's
just dive into everything you get from being a wizard because that second level of wizard you
get to choose an Arcane tradition or a wizard subclass and like we've mentioned tons of times
already Orochimaru is obsessed with the idea of death so it should be absolutely no surprise
we're choosing the wizard School of necromancy as a wizard Necromancer it costs you less resources
to copy any necromancy spell into your Spellbook and you get the feature Grim Harvest so whenever
you use a spell of first level or higher to kill another creature you regain hit points equal to
twice that spells level and if you happen to be within five feet of it you also trigger the
feature from your monk long death where you gain temporary hit points as well and just to add a
little bonus to the fact that you're a necromancer if you do cast a spell that belongs to the school
of necromancy you actually get three times the Spells level as hit points instead only trick
is that you don't gain this benefit from killing any constructs or Undead because they don't have
any Life Energy within them then at third level of wizard your spell casting gets upgraded so you get
some additional second level spell slots and then at fourth level of wizard you get an ability score
Improvement and we would focus on orochimaru's pursuit of knowledge and wanting to learn as
many Jutsu as possible but I want to give him a little bit of extra security because there is a
situation where he suddenly can't use his arms anymore and without his arms it's pretty hard
to use due to unless we pick up a feat so instead of that ability score Improvement we're going to
pick up the feat War Caster this feat gives you advantage on Constitution saving throws that you
make to maintain concentration on spells whenever you take damage and if a creature is trying to run
away from you and you get the opportunity for an opportunity attack you can use your reaction
to actually cast a spell at the creature rather than and making any opportunity attack which can
be pretty powerful and the most important part which is part of why I chose this feat is that
you can perform somatic components of spells even when your hands are actually occupied which there
happens to be some details on but I'm going to use this as an idea to be able to still use Jutsu even
if you can't use your arms because usually I'd treat the somatic component of a spell as hand
signs you also get to learn another can trip at this level and then a fifth level of wizard
your spell casting gets upgraded again so you can access third level spell slots minute 6th
level of wizard you learned another feature from being a necromancer you get Undead thralls so now
you automatically get access to the spell animate dead and when you cast it you can actually Target
one additional corpse or pile of bones to create a zombie or skeleton and then additionally with
this feature whenever you create any Undead using a necromancery spell that Undead gets additional
benefits like the undead creatures hit point maximum getting increased by an amount equal to
your wizard level and you can add your proficiency bonus to the weapon damage roles of any of those
Undead weapon attacks then its seventh level of wizard you get access to fourth level spell
slots and then an eighth level of wizard you get another ability score Improvement and
this time we're actually going to use it because Orochimaru is all about the pursuit of knowledge
and learning as many Jutsu as possible and while you can actually put in tons and tons of spells
into your Spellbook you can only have so many of them actually memorized at a time and that's
totally dependent on your wizard level plus your intelligence modifier so we're going to go ahead
and boost our intelligence by two points making it so that your jutsus are more powerful and you
can automatically memorize more jutsus than it 9th level of wizard you get access to 5th level
spell slots and then at 10th level of wizard you get another feature from being a necromancer in
order to undeath giving you resistance to necrotic damage and your hit point maximum can't be reduced
just because you've spent so much time studying how necromancy works then at 11th level of wizard
you get access at six level spell slots and then at 12th level of wizard you get another ability
score Improvement so we're gonna go ahead and max out our intelligence finally and then at
13th level of wizard you get access to his seventh level spell slot and then at 14th level of wizard
you get another feature from being a necromancer granting you command Undead so now you can use
magic to bring other Undead under your control so you don't even need to cast a spell if you
come across some sort of Undead creature you can just dominate its mind the creature has to make a
Charisma saving throw which usually most Undead creatures aren't so great at except for maybe
vampires if they fail against your wizard spell save DC it becomes friendly to you and obeys your
command until you use this feature again the other downside here is that if the target has
an intelligence of 8 or higher it has advantage on the saving throw and if it fails the saving
throw and has an intelligence of 12 or higher it can actually repeat the saving throw at the
end of every hour then at 15th level of wizard you get access to 8th level spell slots and then
at 16th level of wizard you get another ability score Improvement and for our last ability score
Improvement we're actually gonna grab a feat we've said time and time again that orochimaro wants to
learn as many Jutsu as humanly possible so just to make sure we add to that we're gonna grab
the feet ritualist this will allow us to learn ritual spells from another spell list and you
can continuously add rituals and the only limit is that you have to stick to the same spell list and
the spell list we're going to dive into is Druid this will give us some very different spells to
choose from and I'll make sure to note a couple of them in our spells breakdown and then at 17th
level of wizard which is actually the max level of this build you get access to a ninth level spell
slot which is the highest level spell slot you can get access to and since we made it through how you
level up the wizard let's dive into all those can trips and spells you would have learned along the
way as I mentioned Wizards learn tons of spells and they can memorize an amount equal to their
intelligence modifier plus their wizard level meaning that Orochimaru can have 22 different
Jutsu memorized at any given point and with being able to have access to pretty much every spell
imaginable not to mention the additional spells you get from your background being a witherbloom
student there would be an absolutely insane amount of spells to get through and considering that
Orochimaru doesn't even need to memorize all the spells because Wizards get a feature called ritual
casting so if any spell can be cast as a ritual they can just cast it as a ritual without having
it memorized so I'm going to run through all of the key spells that he would have ready to go
especially the ones that we actually see in Naruto but when it comes to his full-blown list of spells
I'll make sure that it's completely filled out on the character sheet that's available for all
of my builds over on patreon where awesome people like this and especially biscuit gaming Salvador
and kilon have access to all of that including the full spell list that I will go ahead and
fill out for everything that seems appropriate for Orochimaru and then there's the especially
awesome dungeon master level patrons deaf and happy Benjamin Tristan Bennett game stake and

here on YouTube as well as over on Twitch and then finally above all else there's my god tier
level Patron kilo kilo who just contributes such an insane amount to this Channel and everything
that I do in so many ways and I cannot thank him enough although I try and make sure I come up with
additional ways to thank him whenever possible but now let's jump into those key spells that
we would see Orochimaru cast in Naruto starting with the can trips we definitely gotta grab told
the dead because that feels very orochimaru-like and then for his more physical attacks we have
sword burst and booming blade then jumping over to the level one spells we're gonna grab cause fear
and charm person because even though you don't have the Charisma to back up any intimidation or
persuasion checks Orochimaru does have a lot of people on his side so we're gonna grab a charm
person for that and a lot of people are scared of them so we're gonna grab cause fear for the other
side then the last level one spell I would really focus on is disguise self because he uses that
pretty regularly jumping over to level two spells if you want to bind somebody with a snake you grab
hold person if you want to distract somebody into attacking some clones of yours you grab Mirror
Image if you need to pull off a sound related Jutsu grab shatter and then just to make sure you
can pull off some snake hands we're also gonna grab alt herself when it come comes to level 3
spells you already get anime dead just from being a necromancer and you can even add to that with
summon Undead just to make sure you can summon as many dead Hokage as you possibly can then to make
sure you can remove some seals or curses you're gonna grab remove curse and dispel magic but if
you need to create some sort of seal we're also going to grab Glyph of warding then when it comes
to level 4 spells there's actually two spells I was tempted to grab because there is some in
construct for rashamon but I have a different way to pull off that summoning and I was also tempted
to dive into the Unearthed Arcana with Spirit of death but that is Unearthed Arcana and I try
to stick to only official Source books so we're gonna skip fourth level spells all together when
it comes to level five spells you can upgrade your whole person for hold monster and then to
get that rashaman summoning we're gonna grab wall of force then to make sure you have some ability
to transfer your soul into somebody else's body at level six we're gonna grab magic jar which allows
you to pull your own soul out and put somebody else a soul in a jar then to pull off the four
black snakes technique we're gonna grab Circle of Death then on to level seven spells if you really
want to destroy somebody so quickly grab finger of death if you need to send somebody to a completely
different dimension with a Fu and Jutsu trap grab plane shift and then finally to pull off the long
sword of the sky technique the best way to do that is with the spell Morton kanan's sword then you're
obviously insanely afraid of dying so to make sure you have a backup copy of your body ready to go
the first level 8 spell I would grab is clone follow that up with an upgrade to your rashamon
summoning with Mighty Fortress and then if you want to pull off an underworld transfer grab
Demi plane and you might notice that we've been ignoring some of the giant snakes summoning and
it's really hard to summon a giant eight-headed snake thing unless you're part of a full-blown
cult trying to summon Tiamat so there's a better way to pull it off with illusory Dragon because
then you can make it look how you want it to look then finally jumping into the ninth level's Bells
which is the highest level spell casting you can get in Dungeon to dragons there's two spells we
really want to grab and that's true polymorph to turn a random object into a living creature which
can be up to a challenge rating nine granted this is a little Overkill but we're gonna
summon an M fish Biana which is a huge snake so you have your general Snake Summoning which
is obviously something we could not avoid going with Orochimaru then just to completely cover all
of your bases we're also going to grab the spell wish because if you take this spell just by what
it says and not trying to go crazy overboard and roping in your DM to some crazy plan you can also
use this just to cast any spell of eighth level or lower it doesn't have to be from the Wizard's
spell list it can literally be any spell from any spell list especially using something like
conjure animals to just summon a crapload of snakes at somebody but that's one of the more
simple things you could do the possibilities are pretty much endless with this spell so this will
cover the rest of our bases when it comes to summoning snakes or trapping people or doing
whatever the heck you want to to do but just to not waste a ninth level spell on some of the more
simple stuff we do have that ritualist feat that we picked up and from the Druid spell list there
is a spell called meld into stone and it's very simple but it's something that I didn't want to
forget about you can also grab pretty much every other ritual you can possibly imagine from the
Druid spell list using that feat but that's just one I wanted to make sure I focused on I'll make
