here's a crosscourt dinking exercise
that will help you with your positioning
as well as your ball control going
crosscourt we're going to dink balls
crosscourt back and forth whether it's
forehand or backhand doesn't matter what
I would like for you ladies to do is
maintain a good position on the court in
other words Don't Drift to the corner
and simply hit the ball crosscourt we
want to make make sure we're maintaining
a good Court position as if we were
playing a real point so we'll be dinking
at the same time you ladies are going
crosscourt that direction Nancy you and
I are going to be going crosscourt this
direction ready
go feel free to move the ball around a
little bit we're working on our ball
control
here if you make a mistake that's okay
pick up the ball and just keep
going
obviously safety is a concern if a ball
is rolling near your feet stop play and
we'll just resume when we're ready
again Jamie Sue and Amber keep going but
keep in mind when we do this exercise
there's also an awareness piece if you
were playing a point and your teammate
fell down you would obviously have to
slide over and help out if your opponent
is moving around you want to be aware of
that and notice what's going on out of
your peripheral vision so while our
Primary Vision is focused on the ball
that we are hitting our peripheral
vision is still somewhat focused on what
our teammate or our other opponent is
doing that's why using a second ball oh
that was pretty cool
actually that's why using a second ball
for this exercise is so important
because not only are we working on our
control of the ball moving it to the
inside of the Court outside of the court
and our positioning and our movement and
balance but also there's an awareness
piece that we focus on we want to
maintain our Focus as there's something
else going
on scaled up version of this if we want
to make this extra challenging let's add
a ball for each team so Nancy if you
want to get another ball Nancy now that
you have an extra ball you and I will
rally two balls back and forth and Jamie
Sue Amber you're going to Rally two
balls back and forth let me scoot you in
just a little bit here again we want
kind of realistic positioning as if we
were playing a real point you would not
want to just drift to the corner and
Rally from here because you expose the
middle so we're going to start at the
same time you and I are going to Rally
both of these back and forth at the same
time two balls are going back and forth
this way it is going to require some
Focus need to pay attention but we are
working on the awareness piece so that
you always know what's going on with
your teammate and both opponents not
just the ball ready we'll count it down
from three 3 2 1
go and we'll just simply try to maintain
the rally very good
Nancy we'll pause and and start again
again if a ball rolls by your feet it's
okay to pause and just start again
Safety First ready 3 2 1
go o we had a collision right
away you may find that it's a little
distracting at least initially as you
practice this though you'll start to
find you can feel a little bit of a
rhythm back and forth not just between
you and your teammate but amongst all
four players if you can establish a
Cadence with all four players now you
know you've done a good job with this
exercise let's try it again 3 2 1
go very
good not too terribly difficult is
it pause grab that ball it's not
easy but it's not impossible either uh
kind of fun huh yeah so let's add a new
element to this we're going to turn this
into a game this game is called
collision course if we can get any which
one of these four balls to collide with
each other that we we score a point so
this is kind of a collective effort
we're all cooperating together you and I
are primary teammates here and then we
have secondary teammates over here
working together you and I are trying to
keep each ball going as long as we can
at the same time their balls are
crossing over again creating that
awareness and that
Focus ready to give it a go let's see if
we can get to three points total ready 3
two 1
go oh now
we no points on the feed that was pretty
cool but no points are awarded on the
feed here so we'll try it
again here you go Nancy ready 3 2 1
go you ladies oh keep going keep going
if if one ball fails keep the remaining
going okay we made a mistake go and grab
that ball the Nancy you ladies keep
going if you make a mistake if we both
make a mistake at the same time we'll
all start at the same time if one player
makes a mistake as long as there's no
interference collect the ball and then
we'll resume as the other players
continue follow 3 two 1
go very
good now if we do this right
eventually we'll find a Cadence among
all four
boss remember to
breathe
oh you ladies keep going we'll join you
in
progress and we'll see if we can get two
of these pickle balls to collide with
each
other
time we'll try one more time hopefully
we can get hopefully we can get one
Collision but it it's a lot right we
don't want but the thing is we don't
want to be overwhelming we want it to be
intuitive where you're just feeling
right exactly you get like a Zone find
the Flow State find that zone and then
once you get in it you will notice the
viewers will notice there's a Cadence
you you you'll get it we haven't quite
gotten it yet but we will with enough
practice you'll find that little
Cadence so ladies what we're trying to
do is find a Cadence among all four
balls if we can get in this Flow State
we'll find it eventually where you and I
are dinking back and forth in
coordination with each other other
players are dinking in coordination with
each other and all four Now find a
Cadence eventually we'll get them to
collide that's the game Collision Course
get one of these um combinations of
shots to collide with each other ready 3
two 1
go good
rally
we got it oh we had
it that's too bad keep going keep
going keep
going keep going good feel it feel it
feel it nice we got
it oh no it hit my paddle all right that
was better though you feel that we got
into a little bit of a rhythm right
there and you could kind of see it they
were kind of crisscrossing at the same
time how do you like that one that's
kind of fun huh but you it it does
develop that intuitive play you don't
have time to think you just have to do
right but then there's also that
awareness that something else is going
on that's
distracting that you have to just ignore
but be aware
