Q & A

Outlines
💸 Avoid Overpriced Hype Watches
The first paragraph discusses the pitfalls of buying watches based on hype rather than value. It critiques Tag Heuer for relaunching an overpriced quartz watch in collaboration with Mike Tyson, suggesting that despite the initial popularity, the high price for a quartz movement is unjustified. The speaker also advises against purchasing a skeleton watch from Christopher Ward due to its niche appeal and the potential for it not to blend well with everyday attire. The paragraph emphasizes the importance of considering whether the hype is temporary and whether the watch will remain appealing in the long term.
🕰️ Timeless Watches Worth the Wait
Paragraph two focuses on watches that are worth considering for their design and value. It praises the Omega Speedmaster with a white dial as a stunning and sought-after piece, recommending that enthusiasts wait for the hype to die down to get it at a fair price. The paragraph also touches on the appeal of Studio Underdog and Nomos watches, suggesting that while they are stylish, potential buyers should consider the longevity of their appeal and whether the unique designs might lead to buyer's remorse. The speaker also advises against purchasing a Rolex solely for the sake of impressing others, as it may not have the desired effect and could be seen as cliché.
⏱️ Patience for Potential in New Watch Models
The third paragraph discusses the Bremont Terranova watch, suggesting that while it may not be a great first iteration, it has potential if given time to evolve based on customer feedback. The speaker encourages a 'wait and see' approach, indicating that new models often improve over time and that it's wise to give them a chance to mature before making a purchase. The paragraph also addresses the topic of watch replicas, advocating for replicas that respect the original designs and exist in a symbiotic relationship with the original brands, while warning against those that lack local service points and consumer protections.

Transcripts
there are so many watches out there and
it's easy to talk about the ones you
should consider buying because there are
so many watches out there but there also
watches you shouldn't buy these are 10
watches that I think you shouldn't spend
your money on let's dive
in tag hoyya had a giant hit back in the
80s and '90s they were the Formula 1
Watchers they were hugely popular and
even I had one just like Swatch tag have
figured out that collab relaunches Drive
sales so they thought do you think
people would be willing to pay
$1,500 for a reissued watch with an
unspecified quartz movement so they
collabed with Mike Tyson and launched
the kith hoer Formula 1 watches this
makes sense Nostalgia sells and
Nostalgia for a beloved 8s watch and the
legendary ear biting lisping boxer from
the 80s was a genius move these watches
in part helped by scalpers seem to be
selling relatively well but don't buy
one of course you do you don't listen to
what I have to say but tag hoer
generally are among the most overpriced
watches out there and $1,500 for a
quartz watch is on the very expensive
side these watches should absolutely be
more expensive than a moons watch they
are not just plastic they are metallic
watches but keep in mind TSO will sell
you a mechanical PRX for
$1,000 maybe you like them and to be
honest I do think they look pretty cool
I just still say don't though because
right now it's all hype and I'm a little
bit tired of jumping from hypee train to
Hype train it's incentivizing the wrong
behavior from Brands and I also think
there's something to be said for waiting
a couple months and considering whether
you actually think this is cool or it's
just the latest barbar's rubar bar or
Gangdam Style that you'll end up hating
in 6 months but okay if it gets new
customers into the watch world and out
of the Apple watch then maybe it's okay
I'm a little bit on the fence for this
one cryistal W 12x I own 12 I love the
12 the 12 is one of the best value for
money integrated sports watches out
there today they are excellently made
they look good and are relatively
affordable it's a skeletonized model
with Christopher Ward's own sh 21
movement inside it's a really nice watch
but the reason you shouldn't buy it is
that it's a skeleton right now
everything CW does seem to be a hit the
community loves them and we go bananas
for chiming watches and moon phases and
skeletons now generally I would advise
against firsttime buyers buying a
skeleton watch they don't blend well
with a lot of clothing the details can
kind of be a bit much it's like that
floral parrot pirate shirt that you
think is cool it is but it's also loud
and shouldn't be the first thing that
goes into your wardrobe you have to
start with a plain white T-shirt or a
plain white Oxford branching out into
skeletons is for later in your watch
collecting journey and if you have the
basics down then go for it but don't
make it your first watch the C Santos is
a massively popular watch I would guess
that it's one of the most popular men's
watches in K's lineup the tanks and
pasas and panther likely sell a lot to
women but the Santos is the one men go
for I love it it's goodlooking it's a
bit of a scratch magnet but it just
wears perfectly it's dressy and it's
casual it's versatile without being
Bland in any way this year they launched
a dual time version my own personal
opinion is this watch has two problems
problem number one is that it's it's a
$9,000 watch with a celita movement
inside normally I'm not too bothered
about kier's movement decisions but this
one just seems wrong to me if you get
angry about hublo costing $88,000 with
the celita movement then the Dual time
should bug you as well the second
problem is that this isn't a great dual
time implementation it's not really
useful and it doesn't in my opinion look
particularly good the square Santos is
best as a time only or time and date
only watch with Roman numerals and all
the cier bells and whist
the Dual time is just too much visually
so I would say get a regular
Santos Zin is a niche fan favorite they
have their u50 line which has proven to
be a best Siller for Zin at 41 mm and at
11.4 mm in thickness for a watch that
goes to 500 M at under $3,000 you are
getting a lot of watch for your money
and yes nobody's ever going to go to 500
M but that's not the point the point is
that the watch could do it and that's
technically impressive and has a value
at least it does to me now they have the
hydro series these are watches that go
to 5,000 m of depth and they do this by
filling the case with oil and also doing
some other cool engineering Innovations
it's technically massively impressive
but this is to show off you can't
service this thing yourself you can't go
to any random watchmaker it has to go
back to Zin which wouldn't be the end of
the world if they were the size of Omega
but Zen is a bit smaller so it's going
to be more of a hassle it's impressive
they deserve props for what they've done
but I would just get a regular
u50 the Omega speed master in white okay
you should actually buy this watch if
you like it it's a stunner and it's a
watch that enthusiasts have been
dreaming about for years there have been
limited and low production speed masters
with white dials throughout the years
there are the Olympic models and the
Alaska projects that come to mind but
this watch is regular production there
are no limitations and if you like it
buy it but don't buy it from a flipper
don't buy it above retail if if you wait
a couple of months or so it will be
available Below Retail the speed Master
in Black never sells above retail and
once the initial hype of this watch dies
down this watch will become available
you won't have to wait years and years
and it will be cheaper on the secondary
market so if you don't have a purchase
history that guarantees you the watch
right now I would wait until production
really kicks in and you can get it
everywhere two brands in one Studio
Underdog and nomos Studio Underdog does
casual dress style watches they are most
famous for their Pizza and watermelon
dials Nas has the tangente which they
just released in something like 50
different color variations this is a
little bit like skeletons color is cool
color expresses personality but at
$1,000 or more this is not Monopoly
money and you have to take into account
the longevity of the watch how long are
you going to think that that pizza dial
is going to be fun it's the parrot shirt
again you potentially get a couple of
laughs out of it but at some point you
risk being the guy with the pirate
parrot shirt there's absolutely nothing
wrong with that but just be careful if
these watches were a couple of hundred
my reasoning might be different but
because the price point is where it is
you risk regretting it get a studio
Underdog by all means they are great
Watchers but consider carefully if the
one with the crazy dial is the wise
choice and to be clear I wasn't always
the style icon that I am today I've had
that parrot pirate shirt I've had the
screaming pink chinos and I've had
lacquered red Oxford shoes make sure you
have your Staples in place
first if you like Rolex you like Rolex
you won't get any hate from me the
reason I say don't buy a Rolex has
nothing to do with their branding or
their ads or their availability it's
about exclusivity and perception don't
buy a Rolex to impress people nobody and
I mean nobody cares enthusiasts are not
impressed by Rolex not unless it's a
long EG GMT or bite bezel a regular
Rolex is respected but nothing that
raises an eyebrow regular nonat
enthusiasts might recognize the watch
but they don't care to them it's just a
watch that midlevel managers and
recently promoted management Consultants
buy because that's what you do if it's a
woman wey one it's likely a two-tone
datejust as a gift from a husband as a
wedding gift or a birthday gift or an
anniversary gift again nobody raises
their eyebrows if you like Ro
cool buy it but after more than two
decades of watch enthusiasm under my
belt I just know that nobody cares
nobody's
impressed this was a tough one but I
might be a little bit of a crusade about
bremont if you have the time consider
watching my video about them I'm not
totally against the new brand Direction
it's bland but it's not a disaster to do
an airc and land themed branding for me
I think you shouldn't buy the teranova
because it's a first try from bremont
they're trying to do something new like
the time Automark did the 1159 the 1159
was not good in its first iteration the
dials were flat they looked cheap and
almost looked like fashion watches at
least the dials did the cases were a
whole different story but a couple of
years later they added new textured
dials and made a whole lot of changes to
the dials that just improved the 1159
models massively the teranova is not
great in its first iteration it feels
too busy and has far too much going on
on the dial and yes I've seen it in the
metal I do think though that the design
has potential and I think that if you
give it a couple of years of Real World
customer feedback then potentially
Breman can get to a better state with
his watch it's maybe not so much a don't
buy but more a don't write them off
completely statement give them a chance
to update and refine the model there's
potential in the teranova to be much
better it needs a little bit of work so
let them do that and then consider
it okay so this isn't a watch but
basically just don't listen to me you
should always make up your own mind if
you like something go for it if you
think it's an okay price go for it when
it comes to Watchers caring what others
think or being swayed too much by some
random YouTuber is not the way you
should go you do
you I've made clear on multiple
occasions that I have absolutely no
problem with homages and replicas as
long as it isn't a pure fake with a
Rolex or chudo logo of the dial I don't
care Rolex is not going to go out of
business Innovation and real watch
makers are not going to disappear
replicas can only exist because the
originals exist it's a parasitic and
symbiotic relationship I also think that
a lot of replicas are for the money
really well built again check out my
video on the subject but there's one
thing I didn't cover in my video about
homages and replicas don't buy watches
that don't have an in-country service
Point some Chinese brands have built an
EU or a US site where you get two things
that I think are very important first
the pricing reflects the actual price
when you buy from some random Chinese
company and they send directly from
China you will be hit by import duties
and taxes that pump up the price
significantly second you have zero
consumer protection $500 $250 even is
not nothing and you can forget about
some no-name Chinese company giving you
good customer service if the watch
doesn't work if they have a Us store or
an EU store you get all the consumer
protections that you would get from
Rolex or moo or Crystal a ward with a
pure play Chinese manufacturer you might
get a $5 gift voucher to me that
consumer protection has a value that's
it for this time as always if you've

know what you wouldn't Buy in the
