video and today i'm going to talk about

something that i've mentioned before but

this definitely deserves its own video

and that is chain shots chain shots are

vital to pvp and can absolutely

determine the outcome of a fight so

let's get right into it when you're

playing cfds you should always try and

collect as many chain shots as possible

because they're that important you

should open every fight with a chain

shot because you want to try to mobilize

your enemies so you can get a death

spiral going around them you can check

out my video on that for more info but

also you can just use it to keep people

from running if they're trying to escape

and you can even chain shot someone's

mast from their own boat if you are on a

brig or a sloop all you have to do is

load a chain shot into the cannon aim

straight up and shoot the mast on the

sloop or the back mask on the brig

the most difficult thing when it comes

to dealing with chain shots is actually

aiming them they're a little heavier

than normal cannonballs meaning you have

to aim a tad higher than usual and these

shots can be some of the most difficult

to make in the game but luckily for you

all you have to do is hit any point in

the mass meaning your vertical aim is

not nearly as important as your

horizontal aim and to give yourself the

best chance of actually landing a hit

you should aim for the crossbar of the

mass fine tuning that horizontal aim

very much depends on the speed of your

ship versus the enemy ship so for

example if the enemy ship is slower than

you you want to aim a bit behind the

mask whereas if they're faster than you

you're going to want to aim a bit ahead

of it and if you're going about the same

speed you might be able to get away with

just aiming directly at it

but you also have to take into account

the speed of an enemy ship that's

turning relative to your own ship so a

lot of this is just very complex stuff

that ultimately comes down to just

having a feel for it so the more you

practice the easier it will get also at

the time of this video it seems that

semi recently rare has actually shrunk

the hitbox of chain shots so if you see

one miss by an inch and you feel like it

should have counted you are not alone so

if you actually managed to land a chain

shot first of all congratulations but

don't celebrate too early because any

decent crew is going to immediately

start raising their mass back up so you

want to aim blunderbombs right at the

sail length controls on the enemy ship

to keep them off of those until the mast

falls all the way down another good way

to do this is if you have a rigging ball

or a jig ball or weary ball you can use

these immediately after chain shots to

prevent them from being able to raise

the mass back up and once it's down you

can then start circling around them and

getting shots in then we should probably

also talk about defending against chain

shots and the first thing to know about

that is that chain shots make a very

distinct sound when fired from a cannon

very different from normal cannonballs

that you should always be listening far

when in a fight and if you see a chain

shot that is on track to hit your mask

you need to start acting immediately

generally the first thing you should do

and while it definitely depends on the

situation you probably want to

straighten your wheel because if your

mask gets knocked down and you're still

spinning you're gonna be off track and

possibly even aiming straight into an

enemy broadside so straighten your wheel

and then go grab the sail length

controls start lifting your sail back up

and then once your sail is back up you

want to go and put a single plank on it

lower it that way you're not just a

sitting duck and then go and finish

repairing it lastly a more advanced move

that might take some experience to know

when to actually pull this off is if

you're up against a similar size or even

smaller crew it might be worth it to let

your mast fall so you can keep firing

because if you're close enough to where

they can continue firing on you while

you're trying to repair your mast it

might actually be smarter to stay on

cannons and try and get some holes on

their ship or even get them with a one

ball to where they have to get off

cannon to either repair or revive or

something like that which will give you

time to repair your mast and escape
