airport what a very good morning to you
in studio Rachel as well as to the
viewers at home of course I could you
are right here at the T International
Airport here in where we expected to see
our champion any minute now uh Rachel
now I tell you what before I came on air
I took my mouth guard for and I remove
my gloves as well but I'll tell you what
I did not at any point let my guard down
because I understand Rachel that a man
with a lethal punch a lethal knee is on
South African soil so I had to be
prepared for that but the man that I'm
talking about in case I just haven't
really caught on to my drift it is of
course the history maker drus dupy of
course over the weekend he made South
Africans PR by becoming the first South
African to hold a UFC title the
middleweights title that is of course by
not only South Africans because it is a
special feat for everybody that is on
the continent Rachel he is the first
African born breed and trained athlete
to have a UFC title he did that got that
impressive feat by beating America Shan
Strickland bya unanimous decision as you
said Rachel on Sunday morning a lot of
South African supporters woke up to
watch that particular fight and because
of that we're going to go straight to
them now to get the sense of this
anticipation that they are feeling for
the champion let me go straight to a
group of gentlemen that's been waiting

it about M martial arts that makes you
you know want to follow the sport
especially because a huge section of
South Africa always looks at the more
prominent Sports the the the ball
playing sports but why did you choose to
follow mix martial um Mi martialart is a
physical Sport and um as I'm a rck
player I like phys being
physical um the discipline in the sport
learns you everything everything about
the sport is perfect uh I'm crazy about
the sport are you in two WS are you able
to to defend yourself let's say if
someone you know the type of country
that we live in and somebody comes to
you tries to take your phone or whatever
the case may be are you also able to to
wrestle off one or two people surely
I'll definitely definitely I'm trust
even in a r St you look like you could
be handy in the scrubs let me go to your
friend is's wearing a springb jersey
just perfect for the conversation let's
speak about uh your love for this
particular sport are also a follower of
the sport are you a follower of drus
himself have you been part of this
journey for a long time as well like
your buddy oh definitely uh as you said
we are brothers so we follow this sport
since he went to EFC and we followed the
journey went up to the
UFC and we are just absolutely proud for
him to be the first South African world
champion and the fourth champion in
African history in the UFC so definitely
we're just we're so proud of him came up
against s Strickland in that particular
game particular fight my apologies first
two rounds it seemed like hey uh the the
American was trying to spoil our party
here in the South but ders came through
in the L three rounds really showing a
stey determination that is Testament to
South Africans you know we saw with the
spring box at the World Cup he exhibited
the same type of determination at any
point did you doubt that he would come
out of that Slumber for the first two
rounds and become a champion eventually
I definitely believe he would pull
through the first two rounds uh as we
all know uh he has South African heart
he doesn't give up so definitely the
first two rounds we always shaken a bit
but when that third round came and he
started beating up Strickland we all
knew D is going to pull it through what
is next now for for for for DRZ what is
next for him um when is he going to
fight again would you guys in South
Africa like to see him fight on home
soil oh definitely we'd love to see him
fight on home soil uh we'd have to make
a plan to see him in South Africa but
just to settle the score we have him to
pull Israel out of definitely for that
title fight to defend in Africa thank
you let me come across to you you
speaking about you want other want I
mean
I'm not going to lie I'm not you know
too clued up on the sport but I knowa is
a very powerful fighter was UN beting
for a very long time men Pap and FL will
always be jolof rice Pap and FL will
always the jolof rice and I've seen AR
is's speaking about he's ready to go if
that particular fight does take place
would you like to see that fight I know
also has African rul Nigerian even
though he rains and he lives in New
Zealand right but would you like to see
that particular fight of two African
people in Jungle Rumble in the Jungle
level of a fight in the UFC we will fill
up lofter
Stadium are you also a a massive UFC fan
have you been following the the the the
the sport for a long time yes I've been
a fan of uh the the MMA scene ever since
uh days of uh Rampage Jackson um my
father brought me up into liking this
sport so that he can so that he taught
me how to be able to be confident in
myself and be able to defend myself so
yes I've always been a fan and I've
always been a fan of trickers and are
you teaching the young ones I see the
you've got two young ones they're proud
South Africans with the flag are you
making sure that they also have the same
type of abilities to defend themselves
how important is that yes because uh
where we are from we come from kiso uh
very dangerous Township in the west
brand and
from a very young age I've always taught
them that they should always protect
each other as brothers they they also
have sisters so I've always told them
please please make sure you guys take
care of each other so I've always taught
them MMA and also boxing and this is
going to be a future UFC
champion hey am
I'm hearing they're saying that you can
defend yourself you you throw punches
you're a future Champion is that is that
true and you what made you excited to
take up the opportunity to take uh
martial arts and be able to to defend
yourself now he's always watched uh he's
always watched uh UFC with me and he's
always taking a keen liking to it I know
it is violence but it is also a sport
you know it also teaches discipline you
see so it's mixed martial arts so
there's a sign of respect for the
opponent we only do in the cage we don't
do outside of the cage so I've always
instilled that discipline within him all
thank you so much for your time that was
of course the fans Rachel they say they
wanta they say they want to see their
Champion back on home also very
important message from one of the
gentlemen here saying Beyond sport that
he's teaching his children the art of
defending themselves because that is
something that they will need to do for
themselves but also their sisters we
know the country that we live on so
sometimes it's just bigger than the
sport the discipline itself back to your
studio Rachel thank you so much out
there at the aao International Airport
for US waiting for trus dupy to
officially touch down on South African
soil
