😱 Проблемы с Source Filmmaker и Wrangler

A.B.A.F. (All Beards Are Fucked)

Transcripts

play00:00

So you like Halloween, huh? You like using the silly spells in Team Fortress 2?

play00:04

Well, so do I. But isn't Halloween supposed to be scary? Then what's with all this having a good time bullshit?

play00:10

Listen, man. For your sake, I hope you don't do it,

play00:13

But if you really want a scary time, drop TF2 for a bit and visit its deranged cousin over in the...

play00:19

SOFTWARE SECTION.

play00:21

SOURCE FILMMAKER [sp00ky music]

play00:26

"Oh my Goooooood!"

play00:35

This program haunts me in my dreams!

play00:38

And I know it's trying to kill me!

play00:39

But the amount of glitches I experienced while making "How it feels to play Engineer."

play00:44

I'm telling you this shit's possessed!

play00:46

Gather round all of you this Halloween,

play00:48

I have a frightful story for you.

play00:50

The story of the time I had to ADD THE WRANGLER TO A SOURCE FILMMAKER SCENE

play00:55

*scream*

play00:56

My story starts with a prayer.

play00:58

Please Valve, please update Source Filmmaker so that it doesn't use a 2008 version of TF2!

play01:04

Why do you curse me to manually animate things as simple as picking up Engineer buildings and using The Wrangler?

play01:10

But they only responded with:

play01:12

Dota, Dota, Counter-Strike.

play01:14

I didn't understand.

play01:16

So onwards I pressed to manually animate the Wrangler.

play01:19

The Sentry shield is simple enough

play01:21

it's its own model, but this god forsaken LASER

play01:25

This laser has stolen so many hours of my life that I'll never get back!

play01:29

"How?" you ask?

play01:30

Listen to my tale of woe.

play01:32

I began by importing the laser, but alas! It was PINK!

play01:36

That's not right!

play01:37

It needs to be red!

play01:38

So I googled how to color it.

play01:40

Turns out that it's controlled by what I like to call,

play01:43

"Source Spaghetti."

play01:45

But first a quick explanation. This is a ControlPoint.

play01:48

It represents a point in space and can be used to move and rotate objects

play01:53

Particles usually have very simple ControlPoints.

play01:55

Medic's beam has two ControlPoints.

play01:58

One for where the beam starts, and one for where it ends.

play02:01

HOWEVER,

play02:01

the Wrangler laser has this THIRD ControlPoint that controls its color?

play02:08

*generic female scream, thunder*

play02:09

And this is where the "Source Spaghetti" starts.

play02:12

This control point's positional X, Y, and Z coordinates correspond to the laser's red, green, and blue values using a scale of negative 255

play02:21

to positive 255, which necessitates the equation "X times 2 minus 255",

play02:26

where X is the RGB value that you want.

play02:29

What? You didn't get that?

play02:31

THAT'S BECAUSE IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE!

play02:35

Even if you don't get it, I got it.

play02:37

However, no matter what I did with ControlPoint 2, the laser's color NEVER CHANGED!

play02:44

*another scream, this time male*

play02:44

"Well," I said, "this isn't my first rodeo. Surely, i can fix this in a jiffy."

play02:49

But how wrong I was.

play02:50

Firstly, I went into the particle editor to see if there was a color value in there.

play02:55

Eureka! There was.

play02:56

But no matter what you do to it and its surrounding values, nothing happens!

play03:01

Then I wondered, "Just a moment

play03:03

the laser is pink and, when a texture is missing in source,

play03:06

the default replacement is pink and black. Maybe the particles texture is missing or broken."

play03:11

So I asked all throughout town. If someone could please lend me their version of every file related to this laser.

play03:17

I imported them into my directory and it was STILL PINK.

play03:22

By then I was banging my head against my keyboard and finally decided that it's time to concede

play03:27

and verify the integrity of the game cache.

play03:29

*gasp*

play03:30

Reinstall the whole program and deal with all the bugs that THAT causes.

play03:34

BUT EVEN THEN IT WAS STILL PINK!!!!!!!!!!!!

play03:37

At this point I couldn't help but think, "Ha! All this wasted time being a perfectionist and I could just use a different laser."

play03:44

So I installed this custom laser from the workshop that is supposed to be a Star Wars blaster.

play03:49

It's a model instead of a particle. So it took a while to customize it. It doesn't look great, but it works, right?

play03:55

WRONG!

play03:56

When the camera looks at the laser from certain angles it just

play03:59

Disappe-he-hears!!!

play04:02

Then I tried using this laser particle and I don't even remember what happened with this one

play04:05

but I assure you it didnt work!

play04:07

So we're back to this laser.

play04:09

After brainstorming with other SFM villagers

play04:12

I imported the laser into a different map and realized...

play04:14

what the fuck?

play04:15

Why is it blue on this map?

play04:17

And that's when it hit me.

play04:19

Every map has a different default point.

play04:21

Where things load in when they have no other point of reference.

play04:24

You can see here that Badwater's default point is some where

play04:27

below red team's spawn

play04:28

It has no rhyme or reason

play04:29

The Wrangler laser has been loading in and using the default point on the map for its ControlPoint2 value

play04:35

It's a different color on every map,

play04:37

but it doesn't change no matter what I do,

play04:39

so I figured "All right.

play04:40

My program is successfully reading the ControlPoint2 value, but just not changing it!"

play04:45

Alaxe, friend, can you please take my SFM project.

play04:49

Move ControlPoint2 to make the laser red and then send it back to me?"

play04:52

He promptly sent me this in response.

play04:55

*unholy screams, distorted music, windows error sounds*

play04:59

That's right, his computer couldn't even handle the project,

play05:02

so he had to make a new project

play05:03

that was just the laser on Badwater,

play05:05

which I then had to import into my project,

play05:08

which is its own scary unintuitive process!

play05:10

But finally, here we are.

play05:11

It works!

play05:13

Despite reinstalling the program,

play05:15

despite verifying the game's cache,

play05:17

despite replacing the particle files outright.

play05:19

My ControlPoint2 is just irreversibly broken

play05:24

My theory?

play05:25

There's a ghost in my machine,

play05:27

but hey! At least it worked eventually, right?

play05:30

But that's not the only thing I had to do manually. Once a sentry gun is placed,

play05:35

it stops being a gameplay object and just becomes part of the scene. That means that I have to manually control its shooting,

play05:42

which means manually adding each individual muzzle flash.

play05:46

That's right,

play05:46

I had to copy and paste like 50 sets of these muzzle flashes

play05:50

and then manually tell the program "This muzzle flash occurs one twentieth of a second later,

play05:55

and THIS muzzle flash occurs another twentieth of a second later,

play05:57

ANDTHISMUZZLEFLASH

play05:58

*repeat ad nauseum*

play06:00

*repeat ad nauseum, evil, deep laugh*

play06:02

*out of breath* ..and THIS muzzle flash occurs ANOTHER bwehbehbewh..

play06:04

Then after doing that, I have to lock each particle to the barrels of the sentry gun

play06:09

INDIVIDUALLY-Y-Y

play06:12

Truly nothing comes for granted in this program.

play06:15

You think that adding ÜberCharge would be a simple process?

play06:18

But it isn't!

play06:19

The default uber in SFM is broken, for some reason, and always flashes like it's about to end.

play06:24

So you have to go download some cubemaps fixes

play06:27

(Thank you so much SFM community...)

play06:29

and put those in the right directory.

play06:31

Looks good to me!

play06:31

But!

play06:32

What about the weapons? And the hats, huh? That's right,

play06:36

you have to manually change every single model's material that you want to be ÜberCharged!

play06:41

And sometimes it doesn't even wooork!

play06:43

Not only is this a time-consuming process,

play06:46

it's semi-permanent!

play06:47

Since you're actually changing the files themselves,

play06:51

you have to be super careful or else you'll be asking yourself later on.

play06:54

WHY THE HELL IS THIS PYRO LIKE HALF ÜBERED HERE?!

play06:58

See these buildings?

play06:59

They're not actually in Source Filmmaker for some reason!

play07:01

They're like ghost buildings or something!

play07:04

I had to manually add replacement buildings myself.

play07:08

Nothing comes for granted in this program.

play07:11

But you want to get really scared this Halloween?

play07:14

Imagine rendering a scene you've slaved over for hours and it comes out like this:

play07:19

*slowed, distorted engie yells*

play07:21

*DUNDUNDUN!*

play07:24

If you ever want to get into SFM, my friend,

play07:26

please remember the acronym A.B.A.F.

play07:28

All

play07:29

All Beards

play07:29

All Beards Are

play07:30

All Beards Are Fucked.

play07:30

Something about the way these things are texture doesn't mix well with SFM.

play07:34

Usually there's a fix for these beards on the workshop,

play07:36

..but I-I guess none of people used the Grizzled Growth?

play07:40

Anyway, at complete random,

play07:42

the beard will become some crazy neon color.

play07:44

aNd yOU wAnt tO kNoW sOmeTHing fUNnY?

play07:46

It uses the same color as the Wrangler laser uses, via the Maps default point!

play07:52

Isn't that funny?!?!?!!

play07:55

*crying and cackling as fucked up*

play07:57

So what was my solution?

play07:58

HA!

play07:59

Simple really,

play08:00

if I render out the glitched frames individually,

play08:02

one at a time,

play08:04

MANUALLY!

play08:05

The beard is fine.

play08:06

Sounds simple. If not, time-consuming.

play08:08

Let's see how many I had to do-

play08:10

462 INDIVIDUALLY

play08:13

RENDERED IMAGES JUST TO FIX THIS BEARD

play08:15

IN ONE SCEEEEEENE?!

play08:17

And sometimes it's not even consistent!

play08:20

Here you think that the color is based on the beard's position?

play08:23

But look at this shit! It's blue in this camera, but green in this camera!

play08:27

*laugh of defeat*

play08:28

Eventually, my friend, I could take no more

play08:30

And I just asked the guy who fixed the all-father if he could fix the Grizzled Growth.

play08:34

Which he did!

play08:35

The moral of this scary beard story is:

play08:42

Oh but friend, I've scary stories to spare.

play08:45

Look at this scene. Simple, right?

play08:47

Well,

play08:48

this is what it USED TO LOOK LIIIKE!

play08:50

These lights are Satan!

play08:52

They have caused an issue in every video.

play08:55

For the Spy video,

play08:57

I spent a full 10 hour day trying to get rid of these lights, that would bleed through all the walls. After that day,

play09:03

I knew not to ever try anything with these demon-possessed lights.

play09:07

But in this scene,

play09:08

I had to.

play09:09

I used a program to remove literally every light from the map

play09:13

and you won't believe it

play09:14

*electricity crackling, Merasmus theme*

play09:16

THESE LIGHTS ARE SATAN!!!

play09:18

Eventually

play09:20

a villager from the SFM Discord discovered that you just have to type

play09:23

"ent_fire env_lightglow kill" in console

play09:30

*Smol sp00ky laugh*

play09:32

*Big sp00ky laugh*

play09:33

WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!?!

play09:35

I'm certain that a ghost has possessed my computer,

play09:37

but it doesn't always make itself obvious.

play09:39

Sometimes the glitches are small,

play09:41

like the time that this blood decal's position didn't update when I played the video forward.

play09:45

But it worked when I played the video backward.

play09:47

*more distorted, backwards music*

play09:52

And then sometimes when I render something, every other frame becomes a blue mess.

play09:56

Definitely a ghost.

play09:57

And half the time I import a custom map,

play09:59

Source Filmmaker just breaks all its lighting!

play10:02

(classic ghost stuff)

play10:03

This one is fixable, but when even the guy making the tutorial says:

play10:12

I can't say it makes me very hopeful.

play10:14

Of course the program does make my life easier sometimes.

play10:17

"Spline curves" are pretty good at automating some animations,

play10:20

but other times they put the spirit of the devil into my characters.

play10:24

[Text-To-Speech]

play10:26

*bones cracking*

play10:27

Oh my god!

play10:28

Call the Exorcist!

play10:28

*another fucking scream lazy calm down*

play10:29

Look at this sentry.

play10:30

I just want it to go from this, to this.

play10:32

A 180 degree turn

play10:34

It's simple,

play10:35

but for some reason

play10:36

the program thinks that the most efficient way to do this

play10:39

is a freaking backflip!

play10:41

Back you demon, get out of my sentry gun!

play10:43

Thankfully the program has a built-in stress reliever:

play10:46

whenever I find myself getting exhausted,

play10:48

I just move the character's pelvis to the beat of whatever music I'm listening to for endless entertainment.

play11:03

*boo doo ba boo*

play11:05

*BEEM!*

play11:06

Truly countless hours have gone into trying to fix every single little mistaken glitch in all of my videos.

play11:11

But!

play11:12

Since you've made it to the end of this video,

play11:14

I think I'm gonna let you in on a little secret.

play11:15

There's a mistake in the Engineer video and it will probably ruin your entire perception of it.

play11:22

In this scene, where I build a mini sentry on this scout,

play11:25

I DON'T HAVE THE GUNSLINGER EQUIPPED IN THE SFM ANIMATION!

play11:29

NOOOOOOOOO!!!

play11:31

Hey! It's me! I have a T-shirt now! You can find a link to it in the description.

play11:35

I also now have a secondary channel (LazierPurple), so please subscribe to that as well.

play11:38

The suffering in this video was made possible by [people who donated a big amount to pour lil' soul

play11:45

who was suffering all the time doing this video

play11:47

or i can't find the list of people so i can't do anything to it. Sorry :(]

play11:52

You all turned this suffering into a gift.
