Chapin emphasizes the importance of understanding the gospels and becoming a reflection of God's love in a world in need of love. The show begins with viewer mail, highlighting a letter from Tamah, who appreciates the teachings and shares key points from past episodes, such as the sowing of God's power word, the importance of faith, and the transformative power of Jesus' presence. Fr. Chapin then introduces the day's gospel from John, discussing the challenge of preaching the same message over multiple weeks and the importance of the 'bread of life discourse.'

05:01

🍞 The Bread of Life Discourse: A Deep Dive

This paragraph delves into the 'bread of life discourse' from the Gospel of John, which is foundational to the Christian faith. Fr. Chapin discusses the annual recurrence of this discourse during the summer, highlighting its significance. He provides an overview of the discourse, starting with the feeding of the 5,000, which foreshadows the Eucharist. The paragraph explores the reactions of the crowd to Jesus' teachings, their initial shock, and the deeper spiritual meaning behind Jesus' words. It also touches on the importance of prayer and communion with God, as exemplified by Jesus' own practices.

10:01

πŸ” The Search for Jesus and the Quest for Eternal Life

The narrative continues with the crowd's pursuit of Jesus after the feeding of the 5,000, reflecting their desire for more miracles and temporal fulfillment. Jesus, aware of their intentions, challenges their focus on physical sustenance and directs them towards eternal life. He introduces the concept of 'true bread from heaven,' subtly revealing his divine nature. The paragraph discusses the crowd's misunderstanding and their request for a sign, leading to Jesus' declaration that believing in him is the work of God, emphasizing the necessity of faith.

15:05

πŸ›‘ The Hard Sayings of Jesus: Belief and Scandal

In this section, Jesus' 'I am' statement as the bread of life is explored, causing confusion and disbelief among his listeners. Fr. Chapin discusses the difficulty of accepting Jesus' divinity and the eternal life offered through him. The paragraph examines the reactions of the people, many of whom find his words 'hard' and choose to abandon their following of Jesus. He connects this to the broader context of recognizing God's presence and work in the world. The conversation between Jesus and Pilate is referenced, leading to the promise of the Holy Spirit as a guide to truth. play01:05

- Welcome to "Daily Living with Fr. Chapin."

play01:07

Where we consider God's word

play01:09

and how we might be able to apply it into our daily living.

play01:13

Yes my friend, that is what we do.

play01:15

Sometimes the Bible can be a bit confusing

play01:18

so we bust it down like a fraction.

play01:19

We're asking questions along the way.

play01:21

Questions like, what do these gospels have to do with me?

play01:24

That's what I wanna know.

play01:27

How can I take these gospels

play01:29

and apply them into my daily living

play01:31

so that I can become a reflection of God's love

play01:33

to a world let's face it don't know God for sure

play01:36

and definitely is in deep need of more love don't you think?

play01:40

I mean take a look around.

play01:41

There's a lot of bad news bearers out there.

play01:43

How can I take the good news of Jesus Christ

play01:46

and apply it into my daily living so that I can become

play01:50

well, a light in this darkness.

play01:52

I want to be a tool in the hand of God

play01:53

making present his kingdom,

play01:55

not someday, but today and every day.

play01:57

And that's what this show is all about.

play01:59

So glad you could join us today.

play02:01

Oh, we got a good one.

play02:03

But before we get into it,

play02:05

it is time for the viewer mail.

play02:09

Our first letter is coming from Tamah.

play02:11

And I love these letters,

play02:13

because Tamah obviously she takes notes

play02:16

because she reviews the highlights of past shows.

play02:22

So it's kind of like,

play02:23

a review of what we've been talking about.

play02:25

And I wasn't the only one who loved Tamah's letter

play02:31

because Stormy really loved Tamah's letter

play02:35

and absolutely destroyed it,

play02:38

which I was talking with my friend and they said,

play02:42

"Oh, that's so cute. That's so cute."

play02:43

It's not cute.

play02:45

This is destruction.

play02:46

This is the beast that I live with,

play02:48

but I was able to piece it together

play02:51

and record it on a legal pad

play02:53

so I can share it with you.

play02:55

"Dear Fr. Chapin,

play02:56

thank you for the pictures and the bookmark

play02:58

and yes, I do take notes.

play03:00

I do not wanna forget any of your teachings

play03:03

because I learned so much.

play03:05

The sowing of the seed,

play03:06

the sower sow the seed of God's power word and spirit.

play03:11

The word became flesh and dwelt among us.

play03:13

We don't grow the seed.

play03:14

The seed grows us.

play03:17

Storm at sea.

play03:18

Jesus is sleeping in the back of the boat.

play03:19

Seems like he's doesn't care,

play03:22

but he's with us in our storms.

play03:24

Some storms are satanic in nature.

play03:27

The spray often blurs our vision,

play03:29

but Jesus is with us in our storms.

play03:32

In fact, he's in our boat.

play03:35

Belief versus faith.

play03:38

Jairus' daughter came alive.

play03:39

The woman with the issue of blood was healed

play03:42

by the touching of the hem of his garment.

play03:44

Your faith has made you whole, are we ready?

play03:47

Jesus' hometown rejected him.

play03:50

Unbelief. It does four things.

play03:51

It obscures the obvious.

play03:53

It elevates the irrelevant.

play03:54

It attacks the messenger.

play03:56

It spurns its supernatural.

play03:58

We are the hometown.

play04:00

Do we need a savior?

play04:02

Well, I really enjoy your programs every Sunday morning.

play04:05

Look forward to it.

play04:06

Thank you for your teachings.

play04:08

Stay safe, your Presbyterian friend

play04:10

love and Christ, Tamah."

play04:13

Tamah, love the note.

play04:15

Stormy loved the note too, for different reasons.

play04:18

What do you say we get into our gospel today.

play04:20

We are hearing from the gospel of John.

play04:24

"Many of Jesus's disciples were listening and said,

play04:27

'This saying is hard.

play04:28

Who can accept it?'

play04:30

Since Jesus knew that his disciples

play04:32

were murmuring about this,

play04:34

he said to them,

play04:35

'Does this shock you?

play04:36

What if you were to see the son of man ascending

play04:39

to where he was before,

play04:40

it is the spirit that gives life

play04:42

while the flesh is of no avail.

play04:46

The words I've spoken to you are spirit and life,

play04:49

but there are some of you who do not believe.'

play04:51

Jesus knew from the beginning,

play04:53

the ones who would not believe

play04:55

and the one who would betray him.

play04:59

And he said,

play05:00

'For this reason I told you

play05:02

that no one can come to me,

play05:03

unless it is granted him by the Father.'

play05:06

As a result of this,

play05:08

many of his disciples returned to their former way of life

play05:10

and no longer accompanied him.

play05:14

Jesus then said to the 12,

play05:15

'Do you also wanna leave?'

play05:18

Simon Peter answered him,

play05:20

'Master to whom shall we go?

play05:24

You have the words of eternal life.

play05:27

We have come to believe and are convinced

play05:31

that you are the holy one of God.'"

play05:36

The gospel of the Lord

play05:39

and what a gospel it is my friend.

play05:41

This is a deep pool.

play05:42

Tamah, you better get out your pad.

play05:44

There's a whole lot coming.

play05:46

This is "Daily Living" I'm Fr. Chapin

play05:48

you hang out we'll be right back.

play05:49

And we're gonna talk about this gospel

play05:52

and a few other things along the way

play05:54

here as we consider God's word

play05:56

and how we might be able to apply into our daily living.

play06:02

Hi this is Fr.Chapin,

play06:04

host of "Daily Living with Fr. Chapin."

play06:07

It is such a pleasure to be able to come into your home

play06:09

each and every week and share the good news,

play06:11

but it's a bit expensive.

play06:13

So I would ask you to consider

play06:15

grabbing a piece of paper and a pencil.

play06:17

And at the next break,

play06:19

I'm gonna share with you some details,

play06:21

how you can become a partner with "Daily Living"

play06:24

and together, we can take the good news to a lost world.

play06:28

What do you say we get back to the show.

play06:32

Welcome back to "Daily Living."

play06:34

So today we continue our journey through the sixth chapter

play06:39

of the gospel of John.

play06:41

And we are reaching the conclusion

play06:43

of what is known as the bread of life discourse.

play06:47

And this is big.

play06:48

This is big.

play06:50

This is foundational to the teachings of our faith.

play06:54

The bread of life discourse

play06:55

comes around every year during the summer,

play06:57

which should give you an idea

play06:59

of how important this really is.

play07:03

But the fact that it comes around every year

play07:05

and often goes at least three weeks,

play07:07

sometimes four weeks,

play07:09

presents a bit of a challenge

play07:11

because how am I going to preach on the very same thing

play07:15

for a whole month?

play07:17

So today as we leave the bread of life discourse,

play07:21

I would like to take a 10,000 foot flyover

play07:25

and give you a macro understanding

play07:28

of what the bread of life discourse really is.

play07:30

Not just this gospel today, but the whole thing.

play07:32

And how can we apply it into our daily living?

play07:36

So where do we even start?

play07:38

Well, let's start with take this all of you and eat of it

play07:42

for this is my body,

play07:45

which will be given up for you.

play07:49

Or how about take this all of you and drink from it,

play07:53

for this as a chalice of my blood,

play07:56

the blood of the new and eternal covenant,

play08:00

which will be poured out for you and for many,

play08:03

for the forgiveness of sins.

play08:07

These are the words of consecration

play08:09

that we say at every Catholic mass

play08:12

and what we call the Liturgy of the Eucharist,

play08:15

which is the source and summit of our faith.

play08:19

Now of course as somebody

play08:21

who has grown up in the Catholic church,

play08:24

I've been hearing these words my whole life

play08:26

ever since I was a little kid.

play08:28

So the idea of this is my body, this is my blood.

play08:31

These are concepts that I am familiar with,

play08:36

but in our gospel today uh-uh no, no.

play08:39

In our gospel today,

play08:40

these people are hearing these words for the very first time

play08:45

and they're shocking.

play08:47

In fact, if I was going to rename our gospel today,

play08:51

I would name it hard words.

play08:55

"For my flesh is true food

play08:58

and my blood is true drink.

play09:01

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood

play09:03

remains in me and I in him."

play09:06

I mean how do you even wrap your mind around that?

play09:11

Like I said, hard words.

play09:12

So let's talk about it.

play09:14

Technically the bread of life discourse,

play09:17

doesn't start till the 22nd verse

play09:20

of the sixth chapter of the gospel of John.

play09:23

But if you go to the very beginning

play09:25

of the sixth chapter of the gospel of John,

play09:28

it begins with the feeding of the 5,000,

play09:31

which actually foreshadows the Eucharist,

play09:36

which is what the bread of life discourse is all about.

play09:38

Which like I said, is the source and summit of our faith.

play09:41

So let's start with the feeding of the 5,000.

play09:45

The miracle that changed everything.

play09:48

A miracle that involved many people

play09:51

and out of this crowd came many new followers

play09:54

or disciples of Jesus.

play09:57

The Greek word for disciple is mathitis,

play10:01

which translates as students.

play10:03

So in the wake of this incredible, amazing miracle,

play10:07

the feeding of the 5,000,

play10:08

some felt they had found their new professor

play10:12

and they wanted to learn more.

play10:14

Others felt that they had found their new king

play10:17

and wanted to roll out the throne.

play10:20

Still others felt that they found their new Moses,

play10:23

someone to guide them,

play10:25

someone to protect them

play10:26

and lead them out of their present desert.

play10:30

So after the miracle,

play10:33

Jesus instructs his disciples to get into the boat

play10:37

and cross over to the other side of the sea of Galilee.

play10:41

And he goes off by himself to pray.

play10:44

This is something that we see Jesus often do

play10:47

throughout the gospels.

play10:48

It is important to him to take the time to go off by himself

play10:53

and commune with his heavenly father.

play10:56

So I have a question

play10:58

if it's important to Jesus,

play11:00

who is the second person of the Blessed Trinity,

play11:04

God himself, to take time,

play11:07

to steal away by himself,

play11:08

to be alone with this heavenly father and pray

play11:12

how much more important is it for you and I to do the same?

play11:16

But do we?

play11:17

I mean ever?

play11:20

That's a good question.

play11:22

That's a question that's worth an answer,

play11:24

but let's get back to these crowds.

play11:25

They've just been fed.

play11:27

They've just had this incredible miracle

play11:29

of the feeding of the 5,000.

play11:31

They have seen the disciples get into the boat and leave.

play11:34

They have obviously seen that Jesus is not with them.

play11:38

So the search begins.

play11:41

They're looking for Jesus.

play11:43

Why? Well, 'cause they wanted to get fed again.

play11:47

They wanted their temporal needs satisfied.

play11:49

They wanted Jesus to provide for them

play11:53

what they thought they needed.

play11:57

Good thing there is nobody like that around here.

play11:59

So anyway, they're looking for Jesus

play12:01

and they're running along the shore lines,

play12:03

they're pursuing him in boats

play12:05

and they finally catch up with him on the other side.

play12:08

And they say, "Hey, when did you get here?"

play12:11

I love that.

play12:12

"When did you get here?"

play12:14

Of course, Jesus he can see right through them

play12:17

as he can no doubt see right through you and I,

play12:20

he knows what they want.

play12:22

He knows that they're looking for food.

play12:25

So what does he say?

play12:26

He says, "Amen, amen I say to you,

play12:29

you are looking for me,

play12:30

not because you saw signs,

play12:33

but because you ate of the loaves and were filled,

play12:35

do not work for food that perishes,

play12:38

but for food that endures for eternal life,

play12:42

which the son of man will give you."

play12:44

Okay. So there's a whole lot right there.

play12:46

So let's look at it.

play12:48

Let's begin with you are looking for me

play12:51

not because you saw signs.

play12:54

Now that word signs is real important.

play12:57

That word sign.

play12:58

That's a unique word to John.

play13:01

You will never see in the gospel of John,

play13:04

John use the word miracle.

play13:06

Because he always uses the word sign.

play13:09

And a sign is used much like a road sign

play13:13

to point to something else.

play13:16

Because you see when Jesus fed 5,000 men,

play13:19

he was pointing to something else.

play13:22

Of course, these people are focusing on the food

play13:25

and they're missing that something else.

play13:27

And that something else in case you're wondering,

play13:30

is that Jesus can not only provide you bread.

play13:33

He himself is the bread.

play13:36

We're gonna work up to that.

play13:39

Made clear by the idea of which the son of man

play13:42

will give you.

play13:44

Did you notice that word give?

play13:46

Meaning you can't earn it.

play13:48

But of course these people,

play13:50

they don't get it.

play13:51

Much like we don't get it.

play13:52

And what do they ask?

play13:54

"What can we do to accomplish the works of God?"

play13:59

Which of course is a ridiculous question

play14:02

because you can do nothing.

play14:05

We in and of ourselves can earn nothing.

play14:08

But as ridiculous as that question might have been,

play14:11

it does provide Jesus with a rather nice teachable moment.

play14:17

As he says,

play14:18

"This is the work of God

play14:20

that you believe in the one He sent."

play14:23

And I gotta say,

play14:25

if you're looking for a refrigerator quote,

play14:27

this is a very good one.

play14:30

This is the work of God,

play14:32

that you believe in the one He sent

play14:35

begging the question, do we?

play14:37

Do we believe in the one God sent?

play14:41

Because let me tell you my friends, they didn't.

play14:44

They say, "Our ancestors, a man in the desert.

play14:48

What can you do?"

play14:50

I mean, they're referring to Moses,

play14:52

but isn't this kind of ridiculous.

play14:54

Think about it.

play14:56

He's just fed this huge crowd and they're asking,

play14:59

"What can you do?"

play15:01

My friends, our Lord is so patient with us.

play15:05

So he corrects they're theology.

play15:08

He says, "It was not Moses that gave you bread from heaven.

play15:12

But rather my father who gives the true bread from heaven

play15:18

for the bread that God gives

play15:19

is that which comes down from heaven

play15:22

and gives life to the world."

play15:24

You see, he's referring to himself.

play15:26

They don't get it yet,

play15:27

but he's gonna come out pretty clear soon.

play15:30

But right now these are soft words

play15:34

and they sound pretty good.

play15:35

I mean, who wouldn't want that?

play15:38

So they respond, "Give us this bread always."

play15:41

And then here it is, the grand pivot.

play15:44

This is where everything starts to turn and go south.

play15:50

Because Jesus says, "I am the bread of life.

play15:54

Whoever comes to me will never hunger.

play15:57

Whoever believes in me will never thirst.

play16:00

I am the bread of life."

play16:02

This is one of John's seven I am statements.

play16:06

Jesus is claiming divinity,

play16:08

making clear for the very first time really,

play16:11

that he himself is the living bread.

play16:14

I mean, really, can you imagine,

play16:16

now you're God

play16:17

and you're the bread of life come down from heaven.

play16:20

I mean just try to put yourself in this situation.

play16:23

Imagine you were there.

play16:24

Imagine I was there and we're,

play16:27

"I am the bread of life come down from heaven."

play16:29

I mean, isn't this Jesus of Nazareth?

play16:33

The carpenter's son?

play16:35

How can he say that he came down from heaven?

play16:40

This saying is hard.

play16:42

Who can accept it?

play16:44

Well, if that's not the understatement of the year,

play16:47

I don't know what is.

play16:49

This "Daily Living" I'm Fr. Chapin.

play16:50

You stick around, we'll be right back.

play16:52

And we will continue to talk about this amazing gospel

play16:55

that comes to us here as we consider God's word

play16:58

and how we might be able to apply it to our daily living.

play17:04

Hi, this is Fr. Chapin host of "Daily Living."

play17:43

in a whole lot of dark places.

play17:46

What do you say we get back to show.

play17:49

Welcome back to "Daily Living"

play17:50

now just before the break,

play17:51

we were talking about how Jesus

play17:54

has just spoken some hard words to these people.

play17:59

"I'm the living bread, come down from heaven.

play18:03

Whoever eats this bread will live forever."

play18:05

And they're like,

play18:07

"What? Excuse me, what did he just say what I think he said?

play18:11

I don't get it.

play18:13

In fact I don't wanna get."

play18:15

And they say, "This saying is hard.

play18:18

Who can accept this?"

play18:21

Hard words. His flesh to eat.

play18:24

His blood to drink.

play18:26

How could they possibly believe this?

play18:28

In fact, for that matter

play18:30

how can we possibly believe this?

play18:34

Now my friends,

play18:35

I know this is really hard to do,

play18:37

impossible to do,

play18:38

but I want you to pretend for just a moment

play18:41

that you've never, ever heard of Jesus.

play18:44

You know nothing about him.

play18:46

And somebody comes up to you,

play18:48

sits you down

play18:49

and tells you this story for the very first time,

play18:52

including this bread of life discourse.

play18:55

I mean it's absurd.

play18:57

How are you gonna believe this?

play18:59

I mean Jesus is either completely insane

play19:03

or he is who he says he is.

play19:08

There's not a whole lot in the middle.

play19:09

What is he saying?

play19:10

Does this shock you?

play19:12

Well yeah it does.

play19:15

The Greek word for shock is scandalizo,

play19:18

which is where we get scandalized.

play19:21

And it's not a word you hear too often

play19:23

appears only two times in the entire gospel of John

play19:26

Scandalizo. Scandal. Also translate as stumbling.

play19:33

So, these words were shocking

play19:36

and they did cause many to fall away and stumble.

play19:41

And of course the word of Jesus

play19:43

continues to do exactly that today.

play19:47

Jesus does one of three things for people. The word.

play19:52

It can either A, lead you into eternal life,

play19:56

B, cause you to stumble and scandal

play20:00

or C, be completely ignored,

play20:04

which when you think about it is really a scandal.

play20:08

What if you were to see the son of man ascending

play20:11

to where he was before?

play20:14

And then here it is.

play20:16

It is the spirit that gives life

play20:20

while the flesh is of no avail.

play20:24

The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

play20:29

Okay. Now we're talking.

play20:31

I mean up to this point

play20:32

seems like Jesus has been speaking in code,

play20:35

but these words right here represent the code breaker.

play20:41

The spirit gives life.

play20:43

The flesh is of no avail.

play20:47

So once again, how do we come to believe?

play20:49

Well Jesus tells us,

play20:52

"The words that I've spoken to you are spirit and life,

play20:55

but there are some of you who do not believe,

play20:57

for this reason,

play20:59

I've told you that no one can come to me

play21:02

unless it is granted to them by my father."

play21:05

Which very much reminds me

play21:07

of what he said a couple of weeks back,

play21:09

when he said, "Stop grumbling,

play21:10

stop murmuring among yourselves.

play21:13

No one can come to me

play21:14

unless the father was sent me."

play21:15

Draw him. And they will be taught by God.

play21:21

How? By the spirit.

play21:24

In other words,

play21:25

you can't believe this in and of yourself, no way.

play21:28

You're never gonna get like a VA moment and go,

play21:30

okay, I can understand it.

play21:33

This is not something that you can intellectually ascend to.

play21:37

You're not going to attend a Jesus seminar

play21:40

and come out magically understanding the whole thing. Why?

play21:43

Because it is only through the spirit

play21:46

that Jesus reveals himself.

play21:49

That's why the work of God

play21:52

is to believe in the one He sent

play21:55

and they will be taught by God.

play21:58

How? By the spirit.

play22:01

Which teaches and enlivens the flesh, the spirit.

play22:06

This is how we come to believe.

play22:09

You can read all about it in the 14th chapter

play22:13

in the gospel of John.

play22:16

I talked about this a couple of weeks back,

play22:18

but it bears repeating.

play22:20

My friends, we are at war right now

play22:24

and this war is inside of you and inside of me.

play22:28

It is a war between the flesh and the spirit.

play22:33

And hear me when I say the peace that we feel in this life

play22:37

or the flip side,

play22:39

the anxiety that we feel in this life

play22:42

is directly tie to how we are fairing

play22:46

in this ongoing battle.

play22:48

The more we live in the flesh,

play22:51

as we follow the promptings of fleshly urges,

play22:54

the less peace we will have.

play22:57

And the more we live in the spirit,

play23:00

following the promptings of the quiet voice,

play23:02

the more peace we will have.

play23:04

It's really that simple.

play23:07

Hear me when I say you will never have peace

play23:10

if you are living in the flesh.

play23:13

Because we were made for spirit and life.

play23:17

So that is why if we live according to the spirit,

play23:20

following the promptings of the quiet voice,

play23:22

we will have a peace that this world cannot give. Why?

play23:26

"Because if you abide in me, I will abide in you."

play23:30

That's the promise.

play23:32

Remember Nicodemus? Oh, we love Nicodemus.

play23:34

Remember Nicodemus? Of course he was a Pharisee.

play23:38

So he's a big deal.

play23:40

And he comes to Jesus and he's real polite.

play23:43

He says, "Rabbi," which is a term of respect.

play23:47

"We know that you're from God,

play23:49

because no one can do these things

play23:51

if God was not with them."

play23:53

And Jesus gets up in his face and he says,

play23:56

"No one can enter the kingdom of God

play24:00

unless they are born of water and spirit." Why?

play24:03

Because no one can come to me

play24:06

unless it is granted to him by my father.

play24:09

That's why, "I'm the living bread come down from heaven.

play24:13

Whoever eats my flesh

play24:15

and drinks my blood will live forever."

play24:17

This saying is hard.

play24:19

Who can accept it?

play24:21

Well, a lot of people didn't.

play24:24

In fact a lot of people to this day,

play24:26

still refuse to accept this.

play24:30

As a result of this,

play24:32

many of his disciples returned to their former way of life.

play24:36

Jesus said to the 12, "Do you also wanna leave?"

play24:39

Simon Peter answered, "Master, to whom shall we go?

play24:43

You have the words of eternal life.

play24:47

We have come to believe and are convinced

play24:50

that you are the holy one of God.

play24:54

We have come to believe."

play24:58

So I have a question,

play24:59

how do we believe in Jesus?

play25:02

Well for that matter,

play25:04

how do we come to believe in anything?

play25:06

Well, I imagine I was to say to you,

play25:09

"Hey, let's meet down there

play25:11

at that local coffee shop Tuesday.

play25:13

How about 10 o'clock in the morning?

play25:15

I'll see you there."

play25:16

And you say, "Okay."

play25:18

So Tuesday morning rolls around

play25:20

and at 10 o'clock you go to the coffee shop and there I am.

play25:24

So we hang out for a little while and have a good time

play25:26

and I say, "Hey, let's do the same next week.

play25:28

Same time, same place."

play25:30

So the next Tuesday at 10 o'clock you go to the coffee shop

play25:33

and you go in there and I'm there.

play25:36

Let's say this goes on for a year.

play25:39

Every Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock

play25:41

you go to the coffee shop

play25:42

and every Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock I'm there.

play25:45

So let me ask you a question.

play25:48

Do you believe that when you go to the coffee shop

play25:51

at 10 o'clock on Tuesday morning,

play25:52

that I'll be there?

play25:54

Well of course you do.

play25:55

In fact let's go a step further.

play25:57

Would you say that you have faith?

play26:00

That when you go to the coffee shop

play26:02

at 10 o'clock on Tuesday morning,

play26:03

I'll be there.

play26:04

Yeah. Why? The evidence.

play26:08

That's why. Evidence.

play26:11

We live in a world where God's fingerprints are all over us

play26:15

and all around us.

play26:18

I'm reminded of a conversation that Jesus had with Pilate

play26:21

just before he went to the cross to die for you and I.

play26:24

What did he say?

play26:25

He said, "For this I was born.

play26:27

For this I came into the world.

play26:29

To testify to the truth.

play26:32

Whoever belongs to the truth hears my voice."

play26:35

And how do we hear that voice?

play26:36

"If you keep my commandments,

play26:38

I will ask the father and he will send you another advocate.

play26:42

The spirit of truth."

play26:43

A spirit which is what?

play26:44

It don't know.

play26:45

Don't know, but you know it.

play26:47

'Cause it's with you and it will be in you

play26:49

and it will teach you all things.

play26:53

My friend, are you listening to that spirit today?

play27:00

My friend, that same spirit

play27:05

is alive and inside of you today.

play27:09

The only question that remains is, are you listening to it?

play27:15

Ask that spirit to reveal Jesus to you today.

play27:18

And it will.

play27:19

Why? Because that's it's job.

play27:22

To teach you all things.

play27:25

Let us feed on Jesus.

play27:27

Let us abide with Jesus.

play27:30

Let us allow him to lead us through this life.

play27:33

And ultimately to our home.

play27:36

Let us allow him to bring our dead flesh to new life.

play27:41

Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

play27:49

Everyday in this country,

play27:51

somebody does something nice for somebody else.

play27:54

Today, why don't you let that somebody be you?

play27:59

Because the best vitamin for a Christian is be one.

play28:03

This is "Daily Living" I'm Fr. Chapin.

play28:06

Hope you can come back next week and we'll do it again.

play28:09

Until then, I hope you let God live in your life.

play28:12

And I bless you,

play28:14

in the name of the father

play28:15

and of the son

play28:17

and of the Holy Spirit.
