🏋️♂️ Home Gym Cable Attachments Comparison
In this section, Joe Gray introduces a detailed comparison of three types of cable attachments for home gyms: Mag Grips, Prime Fitness handles, and cheaper knockoffs. He outlines the goal of the video to provide insights that will help viewers make an informed decision. The Mag Grips are made in the USA by a small family business and offer eight different handle types. Prime Fitness, a larger organization, offers three multi-functional handles, while the knockoffs, modeled after Mag Grips, come in five types and are available on various platforms like Amazon and Walmart. The paragraph emphasizes the importance of looking beyond price and delving into functionality, fit, and build quality.
📏 Varieties in Cable Attachment Widths and Angles
This paragraph delves into the variety of handle widths and angles offered by the three brands. Mag Grips lead with more options, ranging from close to very wide grips, accommodating different athletes' needs. It also discusses the personal preference for medium grips over wide ones. The angles of the handles are examined, highlighting the differences in design and their impact on targeting different muscle groups. Mag Grips are praised for their individually built handles that accommodate natural wrist positions, while Prime's multi-angle handles lack this specific fit. Knockoffs are criticized for their incorrect handle orientation and lack of variety in angles, reducing their effectiveness in targeting specific musculature.
💰 Price and Durability Assessment of Cable Attachments
The focus shifts to the price point and durability of the cable attachments. While the knockoffs appear to be the cheapest option, the paragraph argues that they effectively offer fewer unique handles, making their value proposition less attractive. Mag Grips and Prime Fitness products are compared in terms of build quality, with both showing commercial-grade durability. A specific critique of the knockoffs' poor quality is presented, with examples of damage right out of the box, indicating a lack of durability. The paragraph concludes with a comparison that acknowledges the knockoffs' lower price but questions their longevity and functionality.
🛠️ Build Quality and Longevity of Cable Attachments
This section provides an in-depth look at the build quality and longevity of the Mag Grips and Prime Fitness handles compared to the knockoffs. The Mag Grips, even after years of use, maintain their pristine condition, showcasing their exceptional durability. A minor issue with the Mag Grips' carabiner hole size is noted, but it does not detract from their overall quality. Prime Fitness handles are also praised for their commercial-grade quality, although the plastic twist knobs are seen as a less favorable design choice. The knockoffs, however, are described as already damaged upon arrival, with poor build quality and materials that are unlikely to withstand regular use.
🏆 Ranking and Recommendations for Cable Attachments
The final paragraph wraps up the comparison with a personal ranking: Mag Grips first for their superior fit and function, Prime Fitness second due to their portability and space-saving design, and the knockoffs last due to their low quality. The paragraph acknowledges the price advantage of the knockoffs and the convenience of Prime's design but ultimately endorses the Mag Grips for their excellence in every aspect. An analogy is drawn from the TV show 'The Good Place' to illustrate the trade-off between quality and quantity, likening the Mag Grips to high-quality ice cream and the knockoffs to a less satisfying frozen yogurt. The paragraph ends with a call to action for viewers to share their thoughts and a mention of additional resources available for those interested in cable attachments.

set of Mag grips maybe you're
considering the Prime Fitness handles
cuz they're the same thing or even
looking at the knockoffs because they're
so much cheaper today we're going to
take a look at all three compare them
side by side and come out with the
details you need to make the right
decision for your home gym let's

what's up everyone Joe gray here today
to talk about one of my all-time
favorite topics cable attachments we're
going to take a look at the mag grips or
maximum Advantage grip cable attachments
we're going to compare those side by
side to the Prime Fitness 3in1 and 4
in-1 handles and also include the
knockoffs that you might find on Amazon
Walmart those kinds of things and take a
look at what makes them all different
the same better worse whatever it might
be we're going to start off with some of
the details like pricing and
Manufacturing first to get it started so
the mag grips are made right here in the
United States by small family run
organization they come in a total
currently of eight different handle
types so that is three close three
medium what they call a 3/4 grip and a
wide the Prime Fitness handles uh are
also made here in the United States they
are a slightly larger organization than
the mags but the construction the idea
everything was very similar to the mags
except for that they created three
handles instead of eight in an attempt
to put more into one so your close grip
handle instead of needing three you have
one that goes neutral pronated sated a
medium that does the same and then a
wide that is there 4 in one last
certainly not least are the knockoff
attachments uh these are modeled after
the mags which obviously came first they
are sold on places like Walmart Amazon
as well as a bunch of individual
retailers selling them as well I'm not
sure who created them first but these
ones that I have here today that we're
going to take a look at are from balance
from the knockoffs come in five
different handle types it's two close
two medium and a wide the wide is a
little bit closer to the 3/4 grip of the
mag and they come in a package deal so
you got to buy all five at once and they
clock in at about
$120 sometimes go on sale for a little
bit less at $26 a handle these are the
obvious lowcost leader and that might be
the end of the discussion for a lot of
you you see a better price uh whereas
$300 is what it would cost you about to
get the same set for Mac but we're here
today to dig a little bit deeper than
just the price we're going to look at
the function the fit everything that
goes into these that makes I believe the
mag grips still the reigning King and
best decision for most of you so let's
dig in further what makes the mags
unique compared to most of the other
offerings on the market is primarily the
optional widths the different angles to
the handles as well as the paddles
themselves so all of these use a very
similar p paddle handle so we're just
going to skip on over with that one
let's start off and take a look at the
different width options available all
three companies offer a close grip
option which are very similar in terms
of their widths Prime sneaks in another
offering in be right after that which is
you might call their medium so it's
their second 3in one handle you then
jump to medium handles which the uh mag
grip has the Prime 4 in one is
technically their medium grip and the
knockoffs have mediums as well and then
you jump to the wide category where
Prime does not have one the mags have
their 3/4 and wide offering and the
knockoffs have their one wide offering
so in terms of total options available
the mag grips kind of take the wind in
in terms of being able to reach from
close to very wide which gives you a
different stimulus different opportunity
Etc and also more options if you have
differ sized athletes in your gym that
kind of thing what I will say is is that
if you are an individual buying for
yourself the wide handle can be too wide
my wife doesn't like the wide handle
even the 3/4 grip isn't her favorite
she prefers the mediums I do twoo most
of the time so while the mags offer more
it's not necessarily a home run right
out the gate win for mags just because
they offer more options let's take a
look at the next step which is the
actual angles of the handles
themselves okay so all three offerings
have a very similar concept to the way
that they've put together their handles
what we might call a paddle handle but
what we see kind of at initial glance or
similar handles actually differ quite a
bit in nuances that in my opinion make a
big difference Okay so we've got the
three medium handles for Mad grip right
here we've got the neutral the super and
the pronated if we look at the top
hypertrophy coaches out there they will
tell us that a super supinated grip
which brings our elbows closer in to the
body will activate the lats more you can
go ahead and do that for me you probably
feel your lats
firing you come at this kind of 45°
angle and you start to have a little bit
more upper back included it's kind of a
more well-rounded back approach and then
as you flare kind of all the way up you
lose those lats but you get kind of a
full upper back and rear delt exercise
so these three different handles allow
us to Target different musculature in
the back to fix imbalances to just kind
of spread the love around whatever it
might be as you deem
necessary when we compare that to the
primes things get a little bit different
so the primes are also three different
angles but where they differ here is if
you look at the mags in the pronated
supered uh position specifically you'll
notice that they have a different not
only angle but orientation to them so as
you do a supinated grip your wrists kind
of in a little bit and angle uh
your thumb up whereas if you go pronated
it flips around your your thumbs are
pointed down and your pinkies are
up the mags because they are
individually built for each exercise
each Orient R ation each angle they can
accommodate that natural position of
your wrists to be able to pull more
effectively to not put strain on your
wrists the whole deal the threein ones
and fourin ones from Prime can't do that
they have to just abide by the
structures that they were built so you
still get the different angles of the
padels supered pronated neutral but you
do not get those more comfortable angles
for your wrists for the movement
patterns Etc so in terms of Being Fit
for purpose the mags win over the primes
for that piece for sure okay now let's
take a look at the knockoffs so the two
mediums have the exact same
angles almost across the board in terms
of how they are built the function
Etc there's not these are essentially
the exact same handles they instead
decided to the handles the wrong
way which just makes for an awkward
handle design in general and does not
give us that same ability to have the
supinated neutral pronated kind of
targeting different muscle approach so
the mediums are basically just one
handle the close grips are the same
thing you have two close pronated grips
um they are slightly different pronation
one is very pronated and one is slightly
pronated but they are both pronated uh
so this is really not two handles it's
one so what we thought was five handles
for the price of that $120 mark is
really more like three handles for that
120 Mark now that is still significantly
cheaper than the mags you're still
getting like one handle free at that
point but the comparison from a price
stance is much better so the mags allow
us to do things that these other handles
do not the primes come in in a close
second because they do offer the
multiple angles they're just not fit for
purpose as much as the Maxs the
knockoffs in my opinion missed the mark
almost entirely in terms of having
different angles for different purposes
they just clearly didn't know what they
were trying to clone they thought they
did the right job and we get this okay
the last piece of the puzzle we're going
to take a look at is fit finish and kind
of the overall durability of these all
right so this is the mag medium superate
this was one of the very first ones that
I bought I have used it for five plus
years at this point it gets used pretty
close to every week for some different
variation and it is in pristine
condition if I was to just simply oil
and wipe off this metal piece up here
you would not notice anything different
beside between this one
and the brand new medium neutral that I
just received the other day they look
almost identical in terms of their fit
finish everything so brand new versus
five plus years they look the same the
one negative I see pretty often from
people in terms of the build is is they
don't like this hole going on here they
it doesn't accommodate some of the
bigger carabiners which is more common
in some of the higher-end uh Home Gyms
so you end up having to have an add-on
that you buy from Amazon which then
means you're now spending more money it
also just doesn't look as clean as if
they had a slightly bigger uh hole here
now for me I connect these uh to my
Inspire f 2 and before that was to my
Powertech leverag gim both use smaller
carabiners so that's never been a
problem for me but for you you might
have to consider that as an additional
add-on if we look at the primes they
have a very similar uh build quality and
durability so both of these were made to
be used in a commercial gym the mags for
example are offered by Legend Fitness as
a stand standard offering on their
products so these are meant to be used
and abused by hundreds and thousands of
people throughout the year uh for years
on end and come out looking the same the
primes same thing commercial Quality
Equipment uh I'm not a huge fan of the
twist knobs I kind of feel like for
something that costs as much as it does
a plastic twist knob is just kind of not
great it aesthetically isn't my favorite
thing functionally isn't my favorite
thing it does what it needs to do but
it's not perfect Prime has the same deal
going on as the mags with the small hole
and having to add the extra Carabiner
piece um I added the spinny one which
works very well so um slight nod to the
mags just because they don't have to
have the twist knob but if you travel or
have some uh say you go to a commercial
gym or you have limited storage space
the primes do win in that regard so it's
kind of a toss up between the two
depending on your space and your needs
now we're going to take a look at the
durability and build of the knockoffs so
right out the gate this is how one of
them arrived it is bent gashed and
already falling apart right from the
get-go this was out of the box
this handle on the other hand is already
tearing out of the seams and the rubber
is coming off mind you I have not done
anything to these other than take them
out of the box to look at them and they
were already like this the O-rings that
come on here which is in theory a nice
option my wife commented oh I like that
compared to the mags then she looked at
them and realized that they were already
falling off in and
bent um yeah just everything about these
is very low quality the rubber is loose
um if this hit a corner of a machine or
bench something metal some kind of uh
object I think these would start to tear
even more than they already are I would
not expect these to hold up in any
environment of regular use for any
length of time so you've got the mags
and the primes that are built to last in
a commercial gym environment let alone a
home environment and these which didn't
even survive shipping let alone being
used for regular uh workouts all right
so probably pretty obvious at this point
that if I was going to rank these I
would say mags first Prime second and
the knockoffs third I will give a nod in
a couple of areas though so obviously
the knockoffs are still cheaper even if
you factor in my belief that you really
only getting three handles they still
come in cheaper than the mags or the
primes the prime are better in terms of
portability and space saving where one
handle takes up the space of three for
the mags which is a benefit for those of
us with constrained space for storage in
a home gym or travel purposes for a
commercial gym the mags on the other
hand win in terms of their fit function
and design in terms of each individual
exercise so where does this all boil
down to I think I have the perfect anal
analogy for the relationship between
these three and it comes from one of my
favorite TV shows of all time the good
place if you haven't seen it highly
recommend it Ted Danson's character is
an immortal being and he is talking
about humans he has a conversation and
says something along the lines of there
is something innately human about frozen
yogurt you take something perfect like
ice cream you make it a little bit worse
so that way you can have more of it and
to me that is exactly what we have here
when we're talking about the mags versus
the knockoffs you took something that
was just fantastic in pretty much every
way possible the mag grips and you made
it worse in pretty much every way
possible so then that way you could have
more for less it's not my cup of tea but
I understand if you go that route where
do the primes fit in that analogy well I
think probably the mag grips would be
your very high quality vanilla or
chocolate that just perfectly
simplistic ex just expertly crafted ice
cream and the primes are that pint sized
version that's got a whole bunch of
funny stuff in it so something where
they tried really hard to be creative
but it just doesn't pan out in the end
to be anything better than the original
so that's my take on the M grips versus
the primes versus the knockoffs but I
want to know what you think after all
this where do you stand are you team ice
cream or you team frozen yogurt make
sure to leave that in the comments below
and definitely use that analogy make
sure you only talk about ice cream or
frozen yogurt in the comments that way
anyone who hasn't watched the full video
and is reading the comments is going to
be very confused about what the hell
you're talking about you may have
noticed that I'm a little bit of a cable
attachment junkie or even a snob it's
