A full-blown trainwreck happened in the U.S.

during the presidential race as President Joe Biden got cooked.

You already know that the Nov. 5 U.S. Presidential Election will be a rematch

between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

During yesterday’s first presidential debate, the incumbent shot himself in the leg and,

who knows, maybe some other presidential body parts, too.

In fact, things got so dismally bad, the liberal media and Democratic politicians

are now running around yelling they want Biden to drop out of the race in favor of a replacement candidate.

But the primaries are long over.

The election is due in four months’ time.

Never before has a U.S. political party substituted their guy on the ballot that late into the race.

Joe Biden refuses to stand down.

Everyone in the Democratic camp is freaking out,

sounding the alarm, and going into full panic mode,

while the conservatives are predictably having a field day.

Today, we’ll discuss what the hell happened in that debate

so that the world’s most powerful leader is now about to be kicked off the ballot by his own allies.

Although Trump doesn’t say a word, the video captures the overall vibe just perfectly.

This time, the first presidential debate followed a new format.

Both Trump and Biden had officially and rather pompously ditched the organization

that had been in charge of the debate for decades.

Both candidates didn’t like the 2020 format

as the moderators were losing control over the debate and the format was viewed as too strict.

This time, the two hopefuls squared off privately at the CNN Atlanta headquarters.

The debate kicked off at 9 P.M. ET on Jun. 27.

Dozens of millions of Americans tuned in live.

Each candidate was given two minutes to answer the question and one minute for rebuttal.

Outside of their speaking time, the candidates had their mics muted

to avoid potential cross-fire and Trump’s fuming comebacks.

The range of topics included the usual suspects, such as illegal immigration,

the distribution of financial aid packages to Ukraine and Gaza, and the ban on abortion

Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruled,

and the red states began banning the procedure.

Again, the questions were rather predictable,

and both candidates could have their answers rehearsed.

It wasn’t the topics that Biden tripped over, though.

It was his performance and delivery.

We had a couple of videos assessing the presidential candidates’ odds

ahead of the election and highlighted senility as Biden’s biggest challenge.

Previously, the Democrats were shrugging it off as a non-issue.

After all, he was exceptionally eloquent at times

and even cracked his trademark jokes with the media.

He seemed very much alive.

But the first debate showed he wasn’t.

Right from the get-go, Biden was faltering through his speech

and, worse, trailing off in his remarks.

The minimal prerequisite for a U.S. presidential

hopeful is the ability to string coherent sentences.

Biden, by contrast, got his points mixed up real bad and muddled the words.

Long story short, he came across as a frazzled and confused 81-year-old.

Don’t get me wrong.

It’s perfectly normal to forget stuff at 81, except it’s not if you’re running for president.

He’s aiming for the world’s most important job,

and not a berth on a board game team in a retirement home.

Let’s dive into the specifics.

The moderators asked the candidates about Medicare,

a health insurance program for senior citizens.

That was supposed to be Biden’s forte, as he’s always been one of its biggest supporters,

and the program proves to be quite popular.

Instead, he began mumbling incoherently and ended up saying, “We finally beat Medicare.”

What? Seriously?

Sure enough, he just misspoke.

But again, you’re the president of a superpower attacking a simple question live on national TV.

You just need to say it clear, which Biden didn’t.

And when the conversation shifted to the candidates’ age and fitness,

Biden claimed he could outplay Trump in a golf match and was overall doing great.

That was arguably Biden at his most animated throughout the entire debate.

To make matters worse,

Biden was apparently struggling to speak in a raspy and totally unconvincing monotone.

When it was Trump’s turn to speak, a seemingly bemused Biden was looking around

as if he’d had a hard time figuring out his whereabouts.

All of that made Trump, lo and behold, sharp, engaged, and vigorous.

But he hasn’t changed.

In the 2016 and 2020 debates, it was Trump

who often sounded like a confused and unstable rambler.

He hasn’t improved dramatically, but compared to the older guy right next to him,

Trump delivered a pitch-perfect spell-binding performance.

He did indulge in a fair share of insults, swipes, and accusations, but let’s face it.

How would you pick a retirement home resident over an edgy rabble-rouser?

It may be an unpleasant but obvious choice.

We’ll talk about the reactions to the debate after a brief commercial.

and the Democratic Party staffers alike began sounding the alarm.

The CNN hosts were visibly stunned and even tried to downplay Biden’s debacle.

But one Democratic Party insider didn’t mince their words,

telling the media, “We’re screwed!”

Both Politico and The New York Times ran front-page pieces

calling for a replacement and mulling ways to make it happen.

After all, the primaries are over, and Biden got the nod.

In the span of a single day, things got so tense,

the entire nation began discussing a potential replacement.

And this vocal nationwide conversation isn’t helping the candidate’s cause.

The ongoing political turmoil may well see Biden step down.

But what’s going to happen next?

How do they pick a new candidate without the primaries?

Officially, the candidate will be nominated at the August Democratic National Convention.

These days, the convention is a highly choreographed event

designed to advertise the candidate and bolster their appeal.

But what if there’s no candidate to advertise?

In this case, the convention will have to follow the procedure that had been in place

up until the primaries came along in the mid-20th century.

The parties had been selecting the delegates at the state level.

They all convened at a rally and voted for the eventual nominee.

Now, what’s it all about?

Currently, the Democratic Party has delegates and superdelegates.

The former must vote at the conclusion of the primaries.

These are the local party members who cast their votes in accordance with people’s will.

The superdelegates include the party leadership:

House representatives, senators, governors, and other sinecures.

The latest act forbade them from voting

if the primary election winner’s name was already known.

Should Biden pull out, both the delegates and superdelegates

will be eligible to vote for any candidate they please.

And they’ll be in charge of making the pick.

The procedure is quite straightforward.

One delegate, one vote.

The one racking up 50% + 1 vote is the winner.

If no one scores the majority of the votes, a re-vote is held until someone gets the nod.

Before the primaries became a thing,

10 or more voting rounds were par for the course.

Behind the scenes, the candidates and their allies were cutting deals

by trading their vote for political office or concessions.

Otherwise, they were just pitching their candidacy.

If Biden stands down, that’s what a convention is going to look like.

A similar thing happened in the U.S. quite recently.

In January 2023, it took 15 rounds of voting on the House floor

for Kevin McCarthy to win the speaker race.

The procedure followed the exact same rule: voting ad infinitum until there’s a winner.

Long story short, what typically is a huge PR stunt may well turn into a political battleground

with several hopefuls looking to secure the nomination.

But who is likely to be those candidates?

So far, no one has started campaigning.

And yet, a couple of names are being tossed around.

One is Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California.

He’s been nursing presidential ambitions for quite a while.

The guy was even trying to canvass his potential support numbers

in the event of competitive primary elections.

California is both the most liberal and the most populous state in the U.S.

If California were a country, it would be the world’s fifth-largest economy.

Newsom does have some clout and leverage.

He has a fairly good reputation, too.

True, he was involved in a minor COVID-related controversy.

He’s not exactly the people’s favorite candidate.

But his bid will be acceptable.

His policies fall within the moderate-to-liberal range.

Two is Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan.

She’s repeatedly featured on the potential candidate lists for two reasons.

First, she’s a popular Democratic governor in a battleground state,

which can help tip the election their way.

Second, the Democrats have long sought to have a woman as their candidate.

Whitmer rose to national fame when in 2020,

the FBI prevented the radical right-wingers from abducting her.

She’s a moderate, and Biden supporters will likely vote for her.

Candidate #3 is Kamala Harris,

the current Vice President and the first-ever female VP.

She looks like an heir apparent.

After all, if he were to step down from his presidential duties,

she’d take charge of the Oval Office.

But she has a mediocre popularity rating,

and she hasn’t done anything super-important or notable in her capacity as VP.

Finally, it’s Michelle Obama, the former First Lady.

Her husband Barack may not run for a third term,

even though the suburban liberals may fancy this possibility.

But since Obama’s third run is not an option, Michelle’s bid will sit right with the Democrats.

Over her husband’s eight years in office,

Michelle built a great reputation as a perfect First Lady and showed her human side, too.

If she ran, she’d have a good shot.

The trouble is, Michelle seems to be reluctant to do it.

She explicitly said it to the media multiple times.

You can’t force someone to run.

That’s roughly the list of the most obvious replacement candidates so far.

But the convention may yield a few surprises.

The Democrats have multiple popular politicians to choose from.

They can even unretire Bernie or Hillary as a hopeful, but that’s probably a bad idea.

Although Bernie can speak lucidly,

he’s older than Joe Biden, while Hillary is universally hated.

In short, the national convention is going to be a thriller to behold.

But for all this to happen, they’ll need Biden to agree to step down,

which so far isn’t happening.

If he stays in the race, the Americans will be facing a tough choice

between a convicted felon and a senile mumbler.
