good morning it is a joy to be with you

all again on this beautiful Lord's

day uh so I don't know uh how how what

you all all that you shared but uh in

our conference we've been talking about

caring in the way that God has cared for

us caring for one another in the way

that God has cared for

us

and this morning I'm going to talk about

the gift of community and

fellowship is that the heart of caring

for one another the way God has cared

for us is

relationship

Rel relationships are uh where we

experience so much of the hurt that we

experience but it's also in relationship

that we experience the healing that God

has for

us uh yesterday David talked about the

four movements of the scripture creation

fall Redemption and

renewal

renewal now if you think about those

four movements of the scripture from

beginning to

end uh throughout all of those is

relationship so in creation we see that

we were created for a relationship and

fellowship with God and with one

another and then in the fall we see that

relationship with God and with one

another was

broken and then in our Salvation our

Redemption Jesus restores us back into

fellowship and relationship with God and

one

another

and then the really good news is and the

end of the story is that we are looking

forward to a day when we will experience

perfect relationship with God and one

another so how we feel about

relationships and fellowship it's a part

of who God creat cre us to

be in fact if you think back to the very

beginning God created us in His

image and if you think about what is

God's image God's image and God's person

is Father Son and Holy holy

spirit so God has existed for all

eternity as the most wonderful beautiful

relationship so being made in God's

image we're made at our very core to

live in relationship and

this is important because it it helps us

understand why the Brokenness that we

inevitably experience in relationship

with God and one another is so

painful for when relationship ship are

broken with God and one another it it uh

does something to the very heart of who

we

are so hopefully you can see just by

that how important our fellowship with

one another

is so I want to share three words of

encouragement when it comes to uh the

community the church community and our

care for one

another and the first point is that our

care for one another what we're calling

biblical care and

counseling is for everyone and it

primarily happens in the context of

community

so this is what the book of Hebrews the

writer to the Hebrews says in chapter 3:

12 and

13 which uh Hebrews 3 12 and

so here the writer to the Hebrews is

talking to you and I brothers and

sisters and he's giving us a a very

serious warning take care

so there's a possibility that we would

have a evil unbelieving heart that would

lead us to Fall Away From the Living

God and there's a possibility that we

can be hardened by the deceitfulness of

sin so this is a very sober and

serious uh word of of caution that the

writer provides for

us it may make us feel concerned that

that that this would even be a

possibility but here's what the writer

says is our solution and uh uh to to

this

possibility he says in verse 13 exhort

one

another so that's encourage one

another and how often does he say to do

this he says do this every

day not just on Sunday and not just on

Wednesday but every

day that's really really uh telling

because our struggle in this life

doesn't just happen on Sunday or

Wednesday does

it our struggles with fear and anxiety

and uh and discouragement happen every

day I'm I'm sure everybody here

including myself has some experience

every day of doubting God's love of

experiencing shame or experiencing

guilt

so what do we do every day we are in

need of one another to encourage us to

exhort

us to remind each other of the hope of

the

Gospel

this way I think about it is I need you

to remind me that what I really need is

Jesus I need you to remind me that what

I really need is to remember that Jesus

is

enough

and that's every

day that may be on one hand

discouraging but I hope it's very

encouraging to

you because what this tells us is God

knows just how needy you and I

are you we we can't be too needy for for

help shag chick has and isn't that

sometimes the struggle we we we uh the

way we treat one another in church is uh

or the Temptation is to put on a face or

a front that I'm okay I don't need that

much

help

the Temptation is to pretend that I have

things put

together and that's a heavy burden to to

carry that's a lot of pressure to put on

ourselves and one another to to look

like we have it all

together

but what this says is every day we're

fighting some kind of battle and we need

encouragement and it's not enough for us

to just encourage ourselves and and ju

just between me and Jesus figure this

out

the writer to the Hebrews is saying this

happens in

community and it's not just for the

pastors to do the work of encouraging

and caring and

counseling

others this is for all of us one

another and and it makes sense too right

because if uh if we're to do this if

we're to encourage one another every day

uh we need as we need all of us doing

this and involved in

this so Paul trip says sanctification is

a community

project

that's the first point number

two biblical counseling and Care sees

sanctification as a lifelong project

accomplished in

community so again the the writer to the

Hebrews says this in uh chapter 10: 24

and

25

so here again he's encouraging us to

consider one to think

about

and to consider how we might encourage

one

another he says to stir up uh to to uh

to to catalyze within one another

love what he's saying here is to to have

the kind of relationship and

conversation with one another where you

leave that

conversation more in love with Jesus and

more uh passionate to to love

others and I like how he says we we this

isn't easy we need to think about this

we need to consider consider personally

how to do this for one

another and and part of this too the the

way we we experience this is one being

intentional and thoughtful in the way

that we talk to one another that's the

first

thing

and the second is that we not neglect to

meet

together he says that's the the habit of

some is to to not regularly meet and

fellowship but if we're to encourage one

another we we need to be together we

need to see each other and again this if

we think about Hebrews 3 we need to do

this as often as possible every day he

says and this this if I don't know what

it's like for you but uh at least where

I live in America in Canada uh that's a

lot to

ask

church for many people is maybe twice a

week we get

together and I don't but I don't think

he's saying the church the whole church

like we are here this morning needs to

meet every

day what I think what he's encouraging

us is that we need need some kind of

relationship with our brothers and

sisters every

day so that might be uh a few different

friends that you connect with throughout

the

week maybe somebody you're discipling or

mentoring or somebody mentoring and

discipling

you

I think it could maybe even happen

through uh through listening to to

encouraging messages and uh and and uh

watching encouraging

video but I I I do think that uh what

he's encouraging is is relationship and

and we can't get that through video or

audio

alone Tik Tok and Instagram can't

replace

relationship they can be a great

blessing and encouragement to us and

give us access to all kinds of Wonderful

encouragement and resources but nothing

compares to sitting down and having

coffee with a friend sharing your

life and the writer here in in chapter

10 says we need to do

this every day encouraging one another

and he says all the more as you see the

Near so as we as we get closer to the

day of Jesus return or the day that we

meet Jesus he says we need to meet and

have these kind of relationships all the

more because in this life we never get

to a point where we don't need that

encouragement

anymore in fact I I think the older and

more more mature we get in Jesus the

more we realize just how needy we

are the Apostle Paul uh who we look up

to as the mo you could maybe say he's

the mo one of the most mature uh Godly

Christians that that we could think

about

but Paul talks about how he is weak and

how in his weakness Jesus is made

strong Paul even says I boast in my

weakness because when I'm weak and I

know my weakness I know how strong Jesus

is and how great is his

provision so as much as we'd like to

think that we could get to a day where

we won't need help anymore and we won't

need one another anymore it's just not

possible

our need for encouragement is and and

and transformation is

lifelong and that's really important for

us to remember because if we think that

we're running a

Sprint uh but then we we we we're going

to prepare to run a

Sprint

and we're going to be very disappointed

when we learn that we're really running

a

marathon and I think many people in the

church live the Christian Life as if

it's one Sprint after

another but I want to encourage you that

the Bible says we're we're in we're

running a

marathon and we're running a marathon

that that we're meant to run

together I don't know has anybody ever

run a

marathon TW 28 you have I have never run

a marathon it sounds like the worst

possible thing you could ever do

but I have friends that love it they

they I don't know how they love it but

they love it they're like addicted to

running but if I was to run a actual

Marathon I know I would need a lot of

encouragement

in fact I'd probably need somebody to

pick me up halfway and carry

me and that's a good picture of what the

Christian Life can be

like and again we need we need one

another to remind one another

that what we what we need most is

Jesus we need to remind one another that

that God is with us in the middle of the

mess and he's up to something

good I loved what you prayed that Jesus

you are here

now not yesterday and not tomorrow but

now right now you are

here and we need to be reminded of that

as you prayed I was

reminded oh Jesus is

here

and and we need to remember and remind

one another as Paul said that he who

began the good work in you and me is

going to finish that work and bring it

to

completion because we're all

every day to to question and doubt is is

Jesus really present is Jesus really

working and we can encourage each other

with yes yes he is and this is how I see

him working in

you

and I love what Paul trip says I'll have

uh I'll have you read the the quote here

where we don't want to go in order to

produce in us what we couldn't achieve

own and one of his main tools is

relationship then third and last thing I

want to encourage us with is community

is the context and means of

transformation

Ministry our ministry to one another or

our care for one another is inviting

Jesus into the mess and inviting others

into the mess with

Jesus we don't have to uh uh ignore or

deny or hide hide uh or cover over the

messiness that is a part of all of our

Lives we can be honest about

it and in in the midst of it know that

God is at

work we can teach each other and

encourage each other to confess their

sin to repent of their sin and Trust

Jesus for the Forgiveness of their

sin and if it's suffering we can

encourage one another that Jesus is at

work in the midst of our suffering and

he knows what it's like to

suffer

and I want to read this this wonderful

quote by Eugene Peterson I'll

here he he encourages us and I he uses

this word spiritual Direction which I

think we can uh use to it also be what

we were we are calling biblical care and

counseling

yeah

is he says spiritual direction or as we

say biblical care for one another is one

person intentionally and prayerfully

immersing himself in the Casual ordinary

life of of any ordinary

Christian and isn't that

encouraging it doesn't have to be

something special or something flashy or

very complex the way we care for one

another most of the mo the most

transforming uh experiences in our life

often happen in the most ordinary

moments of our

life

and that's in the daily relationships

that we have with one

another so don't

underestimate the power of Jesus working

in you and through you in your presence

with one

another

as we love one another care for one

another biblically and in the name of

Jesus God transforms

us and we know him more and we

experience more of his

love
