Highlights
The first half performance was subpar, with the team not meeting the Premier League standard.
Steve emphasized the lack of quick ball movement and failure to play forward with intensity.
The team was losing too many individual duels and making poor defensive decisions.
Halftime was a turning point where it was made clear that significant changes were needed to salvage the game.
The second half saw improved commitment and the team gained more territory in Everton's final third.
Although chances were limited, Steve felt a goal was likely to come from the team's pressure.
The team managed to equalize, and Steve thought they could have won if not for initial struggles post-equalizer.
The game ended in a draw, which Steve believed was a fair result given the poor first half.
Steve criticized the team's first-half effort, stating it lacked the usual desire and competitiveness.
Despite the poor first half, Steve credited the players for coming together and improving after halftime.
Steve expressed disappointment in not winning previous games like the one against Crystal Palace.
Stephieâs performance was a highlight, scoring two goals in two starts, and being a consistent threat.
Stephie was substituted due to physical exhaustion, not because of poor performance.
The weather conditions were extreme, described as 'biblical,' but affected both teams equally.
Halftime lasted longer than usual (21-22 minutes) due to safety concerns, which ended up benefiting Steveâs team.
Transcripts
Steve what are your your thoughts your
emotions what was a a really competitive
game we didn't play well in the first
half we've got to own up to that um
nowhere near the level that um that we
need to be in in any Premier League game
uh deservedly losing the game and um
yeah we didn't move the ball quick
enough we we didn't play forward quick
enough when we did play forward we
didn't change the intensity again and
take risks and become an attacking
threat and um and then without the ball
we we we lost too many jewels we lost
too many races we we were we were too
open made some poor decisions would
force players into an area let them come
out and um yeah we we the result was
going the way the game was was panning
out so um so halftime uh came in a good
time obviously the weather as well but
that was the same for both teams and
yeah we had to make it very clear that
things needed to change if we wanted to
get anything out of the game and um and
they certainly did in terms of um
commitment and um um the non-negotiables
of of competing
um and um yeah we obviously got a lot
more territory and we were in around
Everton's um final third or our final
third without um without creating too
many chances but I felt like you know
one would come and then we again set
pieces yes yes they had a couple of
counter attacks and things like that so
um so we managed to to get the equalizer
and then I thought I thought if anyone
was going to win it would be us we
didn't manage the initial moments after
um after equalizing but um but you know
we were pushing again for for um for for
a win a while trying not to get done on
on on Counterattack so so yeah um game
that should have been better let's let's
not hide away from that um but but as it
played could have been worse you know
and um you know we we deserve no more
than a point um I feel like you know we
should have got a point after the second
half but um yeah we need to do better
than the first half for sure feels like
in each game you've taken some positives
feels like it's building towards that
first win I didn't like the first half
I'm sorry to keep going on about it I
don't I don't think we've had that
before this this year cuz um we've
always need to show desire and we need
to show competing and things like that
so so I didn't like that you know and
and I need to to to say that and I keep
keep um keep repeating it um but you
know the the players do deserve credit
you can go under when you play poorly
and and and maybe halftime is as it is
and some teams can go and go and hide
and can the game can can go even worse
to be fair to the guys that really got
together and stood up to the challenge
and and did better in the game not
brilliant but did a lot better so um so
yeah they deserve a bit of credit for
that but you know we're not nobody's
walking out of there thinking that
that's at the level because it's just
it's Nots but um but I do like how we
stood together second half and we got
something out with the game and in a
game when you play poorly you can easily
lose um yeah it's a it's it's a Pity
that you know there's other games like
like still disappointed we didn't win a
palace and um on the other games before
we could have got some something more
than what we got so to today we got what
we deserved in other games I thought we
could have done a bit we could have been
you know a bit more fortunate we get
results but um but that's uh that's how
it is and we have to have to get on with
it quick word on Stephie midi two starts
two goals but it was also a constant
threat again the second half in
particular second half he was first half
you know like everybody talked about
that enough yeah listen I brought him
off I understand the the reaction so
again um and I didn't bring him off
because he was playing poly um I just
felt he'd run his race but he had run
his race physically you could see um a
couple of transitions a couple of
turnovers you know listen he did
brilliant for us in that second half and
he was the biggest threat in in in in
our team for sure and um and and you
know that coincided with the the set
piece falling to him and scoring as as
well so um yeah really really pleased
with him really happy with him and um
particularly in the second half and um
yeah listen the change I repeat I
understand the reaction from supporters
I didn't want to make that change but we
had to because of his um of his his
physical status if you'd like he'd run
his race and because he was getting so
much joy although it was fading a little
bit I just felt the fresh legs there and
like for like change with Abdul and
maybe we could have one or two moments
in the dying stages that could have
created another chance and um um and
that was that but um but yeah really
pleased with Stephie in his performance
the change was not performance related
it was physical he'd run his race and
you know I would do it again in that
moment in time but we're really happy
with him quick word on the conditions
that felt pretty unique pretty biblical
as well concern I've never experienced
anything like that my third outfit
um yeah it was the same for everybody no
nobody was an advantage or disadvantage
from me apart from halftime come the
better time for us than them I think and
um I think halftime ended up being 21 22
minutes because the safety of the
players and second half just felt like
heavy rain it might it might have been
worse but yeah the end of the first half
was um was tough busy Kitman had to get
everyone changed and back out again not
the greatest day for him either but uh
but yeah the staff air are brilliant and
uh and to commit to the commit to their
jobs but they won't want many other days
later today that's for sure
