Highlights
Paper Clay is a type of clay body that incorporates cellulose fiber, typically from recycled paper or tissue, into a regular clay mixture.
Adding paper fiber makes the clay more workable, easier to join pieces together, and creates a lighter weight final product after firing.
Paper Clay can be used for any hand-building technique like pinching, coiling, slab building, as well as slip casting or pressing into plaster molds.
The cellulose fibers provide an internal structure and binding effect, making the clay less prone to cracking or slumping during the building process.
With Paper Clay, it's surprisingly easy to join pieces together, even dry slabs, due to the interlocking nature of the cellulose fibers.
Dry Paper Clay slabs can often be dropped on a table without shattering, thanks to the reinforcing fibers.
The type and percentage of paper fiber used can create different textures and effects in the final product.
Recycled paper or any type of paper fiber can be used, allowing artists to experiment and incorporate unique materials.
After firing, the paper fibers burn away, resulting in a lighter weight final ceramic piece compared to standard clay bodies.
Potential downsides include the extra time required to make the Paper Clay from scratch, and the risk of mold growth if too large a batch is made.
For functional ceramics, the burned out paper fibers can leave small pinholes in the surface, which may affect glaze smoothness.
There is no single perfect Paper Clay recipe; experimentation and customization based on the desired effects are encouraged.
A common method is to mix the paper fiber into a clay slip (liquid clay) to ensure an even distribution before drying into a plastic clay body.
Plaster bats or slabs are useful for drying and conditioning the Paper Clay after mixing.
Overall, Paper Clay offers exciting creative possibilities through its unique working properties and the ability to incorporate a wide range of paper materials.

macinata
Paper Clay Io in realtà posso modellare
pochissima Barbottina in alcuni casi
molto molto semplice addirittura io
carta cioè che carta metto all'interno
cosa molto interessante Secondo me
mi sembra molto molto bello No molto
interessante poter riciclare quella
è abbastanza parte superiore rispetto a
modellano i gioielli no Oppure degli
oggetti che le persone devono indossare
oppure tutti gli artisti che vogliono
fare cose molto molto molto molto
abbia solo aspetti positivi in realtà
ti ritroverai tanta muffa all'interno di
è preferibile Secondo me prima a fare
delle prove ovviamente ma poi magari
pare poca quantità tipo per Clay un
altro svantaggio che vedo nell'utilizzo
di questi impasti soprattutto per quanto
riguarda gli oggetti d'uso è perché
Perché fa sculture in realtà questi
essendoci questa carta all'interno no e
bruciando poi in cottura Ovviamente la
superficie della del manufatto non
risulta super lisce come potrebbe
risultare ad esempio su una porcellana
che non ha nessun contenuto di carta
perché Perché bruciando la carta
ovviamente lascia degli spazi aperti
lascia come se fossero dei pori no
nonostante si tratti di impasti da alta
temperatura un minimo di porosità
proprio superficiale ma una cosa minima
è si può intravedere quindi questo può
essere un problema soprattutto per chi
deve fare oggetti funzionali sappiamo
chiamano PIN Halls in italiano Non ho
umida e molto strizzata però all'interno
plastico e aggiungere all'interno e la
io preferisco l'altro modo cioè portare
tutto a Barbottina aggiungere la carta
mischiare molto bene Casomai anche
mischiarlo con un miscelatore Ad esempio
in modo che mi vengono impasto super
super uniforme e poi asciugarlo sopra
lavorazione quindi qualsiasi tecnica
