Takeaways
- 📌 The most common reason for a lump in the neck is enlarged lymph nodes due to infection.
- 📌 Lymph nodes help filter microorganisms from the blood and combat infections.
- 📌 Children are more prone to having enlarged lymph nodes due to throat infections, allergic rhinitis, and cough.
- 📌 Enlarged lymph nodes caused by infections usually reduce in size with antibiotics, so parents should not worry excessively.
- 📌 Persistent lumps in the neck without infection may indicate diseases like tuberculosis (TB) or lymphoma.
- 📌 Tuberculosis can cause enlarged lymph nodes in the neck and is common in countries like Pakistan and India.
- 📌 Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes, can cause neck lumps and typically affects the elderly, though Hodgkin's lymphoma can occur in children.
- 📌 Symptoms like weight loss, low-grade fever, night sweats, or cough with swelling in multiple body parts warrant medical consultation and testing.
- 📌 Another common neck swelling is thyroid-related, which requires further investigation.
- 📌 If neck lumps do not respond to treatment within 15 days or spread, a fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) or biopsy may be needed.

🤒 Causes and Concerns of Neck Lumps
In this segment, Dr. Abdullah Iqbal introduces the topic of neck lumps, focusing on their common causes, such as lymph nodes that enlarge due to infections or trauma. He reassures parents that enlarged lymph nodes in children are often temporary and related to common childhood illnesses like throat infections. However, he also warns that persistent lumps without an evident infection may indicate more serious conditions like tuberculosis or lymphoma, particularly if there is a history of TB exposure or symptoms like weight loss, fever, and night sweats. He advises seeking medical attention for further tests such as FNAC to determine the cause of the lump.
💊 Treatment and Diagnostic Approaches for Neck Lumps
The second paragraph delves into the treatment options for neck lumps, emphasizing the importance of consulting a doctor for personalized medication advice based on the specific cause of infection. Dr. Iqbal mentions that if the lumps do not respond to treatment within 15 days or if new swellings appear, further diagnostic procedures like FNAC or biopsy may be necessary. He provides links to additional information on tuberculosis, lymphoma, and thyroid swelling, and encourages viewers to reach out with questions or for further disease-specific information. The summary concludes with a reminder to consult a nearby doctor for a better understanding of one's condition and ends with Dr. Iqbal's contact information for direct communication.

Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes, can cause enlarged lumps in the neck, especially in the elderly, but can also affect children through Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Symptoms like weight loss, fever, night sweats, cough, and swelling in multiple body parts warrant a doctor's consultation and tests for lymphoma.
Thyroid swelling is another common cause of neck lumps, with more information available through a linked video.
Allergic symptoms like sore throat, difficulty swallowing, or runny nose may cause temporary lymph node swelling that responds to medication.
Doctors prescribe medications based on the cause of infection and affected body part, so consult a nearby doctor for personalized advice.
If lumps don't respond to 15 days of treatment or more swellings appear, an FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) may be necessary.

Intro
The most common reason of lump in the neck are the lymph nodes.
These lymph nodes function to separate micro organisms from the blood and helps in killing of these microorganisms or the cause of infection.
That is why when either in the throat or any other part of the body such as limb has an infection
or if there is any trauma to any part of the body
then the lymph nodes of that area enlarge and functions to stop the spread of infection throughout the body.
Since the children are more likely to have a throat infection, allergic rhinitis and cough therefore they are more likely to have an enlarged lymph nodes or lump in their neck.
therefore they are more likely to have an enlarged lymph nodes or lump in their neck.
and because these lumps or enlarged lymph nodes are because of infection which is temporary and reduces in size with use of antibiotics
therefore the parents should not be worried because of the presence of these swellings.
On the other hand, one should know that if the infection is not there and still the patient has lump in the neck then this lump may be because of some diseases in which these lymph nodes are increased
such as TB or tuberculosis as the tuberculosis is very common in Pakistan and the neighbour country India
and results in enlarged lymph nodes in the neck or the enlarged lymph nodes in the axilla
therefore if there is a patient of tuberculosis either in the home or in the family or friends then that person with enlarged lymphnodes should be screened for the presence of Tuberculosis.
If you want to know more about tuberculosis and its medications then please click the link in the upper right corner of the screen and whats my video on that topic
similarly there is another disease called lymphoma that does result in formation of enlarged lump in neck which is actually cancer of these lymph nodes.
In this condition the lymphnodes nodes are enlarged
but this disease commonly involve the elderly people. Children and young people are usually spared from this disease
but one variant of this form known as hodgkin's lymphoma can occur in children as well
and in this disease the patient can have a swelling either in one or more than one part of the body such as the patient can have a swelling in the axilla or in the groin.
therefore if anyone is having a weight loss or a low grade continuous fever or night sweats or a cough and the swelling is present in different body parts
in that situation the patient should consult a doctor and does require tests of these neck nodes and should have a FNAC that will help in identifying the cause of this neck node.
The next more common swelling in the neck is the thyroid swelling.
to find out what is the thyroid swelling please click the link in the upper right corner of the screen
Someone has recently got this neck swelling and along with it they have the sore throat or difficulty in swallowing
or runny nose or any other allergic symptom then these lymph nodes are most probably because of this allergy
and with the use of medications for few days which may include the antibiotics and anti-allergic these next swellings can go away
After the complete examination the doctor would prescribe you the medications based on the cause of infection and the part of the body involved in infection
It's not possible to discuss all the antibiotics and all the anti allergic which can be prescribed in the patient based on the symptoms
therefore consult your nearby doctor and take his advise for the medications.
but if these swelling are not responding to medication despite of 15 days of treatment
or if you are now feeling more swellings in other body parts then one should have an FNAC
In this FNAC, with the help of a needle we take a sample from the lymph nodes in which a small bite of tissue is taken and sent for the the test in lab
or in other patients we can take a biopsy as well.
If you want to know what is biopsy and how is it done
and what are the reasons of it then please click the link in the upper right corner of the screen
and watch my video on that topic
In case of any problem please consult your nearby doctor he will help you understand your disease in a better way.
