Transcripts
We know in SOTF religion and religious cults play a big part of the story: we got the Sons
Of The Stars, the Sons Of Light, the Cultists, the Missionaries in the first game… but now there is
something more that was discovered by a member of the SOTF Discord Server, named Thesupersnooper.
He noticed that the full artifact you can get in late game after deciding to stay
on the island has the resemblance of a Biblically accurate Angel. Both have a
very similar structure that is hard to describe. Maybe the only way we could
describe them is by the terms Ezekiel used in Ezekiel Chapter 1, verses 15 through 21:
"As I looked at the living creatures [...] They sparkled like topaz, and all four
looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel. As they moved,
they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced [...]”
The Full Artifact is pretty similar to the definition given by Ezekiel as it is composed
by wheels intersecting other wheels. But not only Ezekiel gives us a good description of
its shape but also of its material: the angels are described as topaz like sparkled beings. The topaz
has a dark yellowish color that we can also link to the fictional mineral in SOTF called SOLAFITE.
Of course this could be only a coincidence since the topaz can be found in many colors but made me
think that maybe there was something more we didn’t know yet about the lore of this game.
One of the main religious elements in SOTF that not so many know and that was yet very confusing
was the Bible-like pages we can find in the HellCave. These pages have a structure similar to
the Bible and that are linked to the predecessors of the Sons Of The Star: the Sons Of Light.
We can already see where this is going: the pages that talk about the Sons Of Light seem
to be from a book called the DIMENSIONAL ASCENSION OF EPHESIANS. This could mean
nothing to most of you but Ephesians are actually mentioned twice in the Bible:
in the Epistle to the Ephesians by Paul the Apostle and the Book of Apocalypse by John the
Apostle. And believe it or not, in the Epistle, the Ephesians are called Children of the Light.
In Ephesians Chapter 5, verses 8 through 9, it is said:
"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)."
This is such a great discovery that can highlight the great role religion has in the story of SOTF.
The Sons Of Light are actually the Ephesians and so could be the Sons Of The Stars,
the so-called Cultists, that follow their example.
In the Dimensional Ascension of Ephesians, it’s also written that the Sons Of Light
must overcome their enemies on the island that are not human but the reflection of
their inner guilts and sins. In the terms of SOTF, the Cultists must not
face human threats but the mutants, who are the personification of their sins.
And once again, this was already written in the Epistle to the Ephesians, Chapter 6 verse 12:
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against [...] the powers of this
dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
In the Pages you find in HellCave, the Sons Of Light are said to have fought the mutants, their
inner demons that belong to the Abyss Of Distorted Shadows. The Abyss is a very clear reference to
Hell (and it’s not even a case that the final cave in SOTF is called the Hell Cave) and it’s place
in which the Mutants, called Distorted Shadows in the Dimensional Ascension, were given birth.
If we really can link the mutants to actual religious demons, at this point we can’t oversee
what was written in Luke Chapter 8 verse 31 when Jesus Christ freed a man possessed by demons:
"And they begged him repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss."
All that I’ve said is already enough to make it clear how much the lore of SOTF
was influenced by religion. But there is one more element I’d like to share with you and
that has a major impact on the story of SOTF. As you know, all the plot is focused on reaching
the Cube before it activates. The Cube is made of Solafite, which is a mineral never discovered
before and that is very similar to gold. And believe it or not, in the Book of Apocalypse,
there is a direct reference to a Gold Cube. In Chapter 21 verse 16, 18 and 21 it is said:
"[The New Jerusalem] was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with
the rod and found it to be twelve thousand stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long. "
"The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass."
"The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass."
So the New Jerusalem is described as a Gold Cube. Just like the one we can find in the game.
To sum it up, we can say that the Cube has the resemblance of the New Jerusalem in the Book
of Apocalypse, the Full Artifact is similar to the Angels as described in the Book of Ezekiel,
the Sons Of Light and their fight against not human beings is mentioned in the Epistle to
the Ephesians, which are also the authors of the pages you can find in the Hell Cave.
There are a lot of references and I wouldn’t be surprised if actually the mountain is
portrayed as the Mount of Purgatory since in one of the story notes it’s
said to be a counterpart to the Sinkhole in The Forest, just like this was Hell.
Hell, Purgatory and Heaven.
The Sinkhole, the Mountain and the Gold City.
God, this is… weird.
