this video you're going to be taking ap
world history modern this year
and if you stuck around this long that
means you're pretty serious about being
successful in this course
maybe i should be honest with you here
this won't be easy okay
for like two percent of you this will be
easy and you'll get a five with minimal
effort and go to harvard
and be a billionaire and to those people
just know
everyone hates you but for the normal
humans like myself it's gonna take some
effort so today let's get organized
[Music]
if you were anything like i was back in
the last millennium middle school was a
joke
super easy nothing too difficult but
i also never really challenged myself
until college and freshman year was a
little bit much
the best thing you can do is just be
prepared your teacher and i are not
gonna send you off like a russian
soldier in world war one
with no supplies and just be like good
luck kid just run out onto the
battlefield and pick up the bullets and
weapons off of the other dead soldiers
so what can you do to be prepared for
class on day one first
get a notebook really anything where you
can organize all of your stuff
this is a major problem for people like
you
people with your condition teenagers i
was terribly unorganized at your age and
i see it every single day create one
spot for ap world modern
not a section in a notebook its own big
five section notebook make sure it has
pockets for all the stuff your teacher
is gonna give you because they will give
you so much stuff you'll need plenty of
pages to take notes as well
your teacher may supply you with digital
copies of notes or powerpoints
but according to science the best way to
remember something
write it down you know when you're
hearing important information and it's a
lot
and you're like i should write this down
so i don't forget
yeah that's for the entire course now if
you really want to remember it then
you'll need to periodically go back
and revisited cornell's style but that's
up to you create one place for ap world
to physically exist in your life
second calendars i didn't even start
this until a few years ago but it has
really saved me
get a calendar maybe just print off some
monthly pages for your notebook i don't
know do whatever
or get a separate calendar it's gonna
save you from having to remember
when this is due or what important dates
or what because you wrote them down
in your calendar finally get a review
book if you're someone who thinks a
review book might help you before the ap
exam to study for the big day then get
one but get it now
don't wait until later use it all year
long it's like having your own study
guide for
every topic on the course if you do get
a review book they're going to be more
beneficial if you work with them
all year long as opposed to just five
seconds before the exam now if you're
not going to use a review book don't get
one
also i have no brand loyalty or
sponsorships here uh
just get one that seems the best for you
or ask your teacher or something
what seriously this is the shortest of
these videos and you didn't even watch
uh
fine here
[Music]
get a notebook get a calendar get a
review book
get organized from day one to avoid any
issues later on
okay you know what the course covers you
know why you should take the course
you know what to expect from the ap exam
in may and now you know what to
physically bring with you to be
successful and organized throughout the
year
what about what school has started it's
dangerous to go alone
are you just stuck with your teacher in
your textbook find out
in the final installment of the five
things to know before taking ap
world history
