can you tell us how she passed away do

play00:02

you call it the accident or do you call

play00:04

it like how do you refer to it I say the

play00:06

accident okay I don't know better way is

play00:08

there a better way that you talk talk

play00:09

about no I don't know I know that some

play00:11

people call it like you

play00:13

know I the worst day of my life yeah or

play00:16

they say things like it was worth worst

play00:18

day in my life they don't say the

play00:19

accident they'll say depending on you

play00:22

know the circumstances they can

play00:24

say they name it something differently

play00:27

yeah you I get it so we had invited this

play00:29

other family to

play00:30

come to go on the boat with us on this

play00:32

Friday so I woke up in the morning and I

play00:34

already had the boat somewhat ready

play00:36

started getting everything ready in the

play00:37

morning what I typically do if we leave

play00:40

earlier in the morning like that is I'll

play00:41

try to get everything ready everything

play00:43

in the boat food water everything that

play00:44

we need towels equipment everything and

play00:47

then let the kids sleep as long as

play00:49

possible and then wake them up right

play00:50

before and then just put them in the car

play00:52

give them some food on the way out there

play00:54

type of thing uh so that we don't wake

play00:56

them up earlier they needed we did all

play00:59

of that uh funny story she scared me

play01:02

that that morning

play01:03

um I woke up or when I was coming

play01:06

upstairs to get some towels I didn't see

play01:09

her in a room and I didn't see her in

play01:10

the bathroom and she I don't know she

play01:12

must have heard me or something but she

play01:13

went and hid in the laundry room and

play01:15

then popped out behind the door and

play01:17

scared me so that was a fun little

play01:19

moment that we had uh and I also the

play01:23

that Thursday night when walking up to

play01:26

go to bed uh the thought had come as I

play01:30

got close to her door like oh it'll be

play01:32

fine I'll just see her in the morning

play01:34

and I didn't need to like go check on

play01:36

her but I was like I want to go check on

play01:37

her so I went into her room and checked

play01:39

on her she was sprawled out on the end

play01:41

of her bed and I gave her a little kiss

play01:43

and a hug and I even talked to Cil about

play01:46

that of being able to go see her and

play01:47

she's like yeah I saw her too she was

play01:49

all sprawled out and so we had a kind of

play01:51

a little laugh between camil and I of

play01:53

how she

play01:55

sleeps um I realized this is long winded

play01:59

of where

play02:00

TR

play02:01

to of later happens and of the question

play02:05

happens why did we go to the lake right

play02:08

so we get everybody in the car we drive

play02:10

out to the lake and we wait there and

play02:13

the family shows up and in my mind the

play02:16

family that we had invited I'd only met

play02:18

a couple times um Camille and the other

play02:21

our kids had never really met them and

play02:23

in my mind I thought they would only

play02:24

have like maybe uh like two or three

play02:27

kids

play02:28

I excuse me that's what I

play02:31

thought but then they started kind of

play02:33

pouring out the van and there were more

play02:35

of them than than what I had anticipated

play02:38

even so much so that I started like

play02:40

calculating in my head okay do I have

play02:41

enough life Jack life jackets for these

play02:43

people um are we actually going to be in

play02:46

compliance with the capacity on the boat

play02:48

so I started thinking all these things

play02:50

that oh wow there's more people than I

play02:52

had anticipated coming um and so I

play02:55

verified that everything was okay from

play02:57

like a legality standpoint um we weren't

play03:00

over capacity with our boat I had enough

play03:01

life jackets for everyone and the sizes

play03:04

and everything just mentally I was like

play03:06

okay yep everything checks the box

play03:07

that's just more people than I had

play03:09

thought was going to be in the boat um

play03:12

and this was in the middle of July and

play03:14

we went out earlier in the morning but I

play03:16

think that day it was supposed to be

play03:18

upwards in you know the 110 115 degree

play03:22

weather and it was even getting toasty

play03:25

then at 8:00 or 9 in the morning so we

play03:28

get everybody in the boat haul the boat

play03:29

down put it in the water and we uh go

play03:33

out towards the no wake zone and we get

play03:36

outside the no wake zone and because

play03:37

it's so hot we just have everybody hop

play03:40

in the water real quick and just have a

play03:41

swim break just to keep everybody cool

play03:43

it's something that's typically we've

play03:45

done every time I go on the boat M so

play03:48

everybody gets back in the boat uh when

play03:50

we were with that family and then so

play03:52

then everyone was kind of cool down we

play03:55

started teaching some people how to wake

play03:57

surf that's what I love to do and I love

play03:59

to share the joy of boating with people

play04:02

mhm uh and so I started teaching some of

play04:04

their family members how to wake surf

play04:07

and in between every single Rider uh we

play04:09

would again have a swim break for

play04:11

everybody so then it's everyone can

play04:13

participate instead of just having to be

play04:14

like okay the next Rider and everyone's

play04:16

just sitting in the boat that's never

play04:17

fun so everybody would always get in and

play04:19

swim we would tell everyone get back in

play04:21

the boat uh there were a lot of people

play04:23

in the boat um that

play04:26

day but everyone would always get back

play04:28

in

play04:30

and I taught a couple more people how to

play04:32

wake

play04:33

surf I taught the mom of the family that

play04:36

came out how to wake surf uh and that

play04:38

took a long time uh to do and finally

play04:42

got her up and got her wake surfing and

play04:44

so then we said hey let's take a quick

play04:46

break now and I was going to teach their

play04:48

son but he was in that weight range of

play04:50

this board that I had never actually

play04:52

ridden and because I'd never ridden it

play04:54

it's hard to coach on how to like where

play04:56

to put your feet because I just don't

play04:58

know yet cuz I needed to know so we had

play05:00

everyone get out and swim uh and I

play05:02

needed to ride the surfboard so we

play05:04

called to everybody hey everybody get

play05:06

back in the boat it's time to get back

play05:07

in the

play05:08

boat uh to my knowledge at the time

play05:11

everybody had gotten back in the boat so

play05:13

I wanted to ride the surfboard and I

play05:15

literally just needed to ride it for 5

play05:17

seconds as soon as the wave formed on

play05:19

the boat I could have ridden it figured

play05:21

out where my feet were thrown the rope

play05:22

and been like okay let's here we go to

play05:25

do the now I know exactly what I need to

play05:27

do I can just teach it wasn't like I was

play05:30

going to go ride for any amount of time

play05:31

I it was just that short um so I get in

play05:35

into the water Camille is driving the

play05:38

boat for

play05:38

me

play05:41

uh and I was even kind of like hey like

play05:45

why are we waiting like let's go um

play05:47

which I feel bad for and I regret we

play05:51

thought everybody was in the boat

play05:52

Camille took off I started wake

play05:55

surfing um I read the police reports and

play05:59

everyone said that they heard heard

play06:01

something or felt something in the boat

play06:03

that like a thud I didn't know any of

play06:05

that cuz I was in the water right um

play06:11

and right a little bit after I had

play06:13

gotten up I kind of uh I heard a

play06:17

scream and I looked back and it was

play06:19

sunny screaming for me no one else in

play06:22

the boat heard the scream cuz the

play06:24

engine

play06:26

um and she was in the water

play06:30

and my first thought is why is she in

play06:32

the water and how did we leave her so

play06:33

confusing yeah and I don't know if you

play06:36

ever do this um but with when anytime

play06:39

any of my kids will like fall on a bike

play06:41

or trip or in some sense get kind of

play06:44

hurt I always even if other parents are

play06:47

around and they're like oh my gosh I'm

play06:49

always like hey my kids fine like

play06:50

they're fine everything's fine

play06:52

um and I've done that for almost their

play06:55

entire lives just like I'll run to them

play06:58

they'll be fine everything will be okay

play07:00

like you know and so I had that kind of

play07:05

mentality

play07:07

of she's okay everything's going to be

play07:09

fine you couldn't tell how serious it

play07:11

was at that moment no like I heard her

play07:13

screaming and I was like in my mind I

play07:15

was like she I was thinking she's just

play07:17

scared that she's still in the water

play07:20

she's scared that we left without her

play07:22

she's scared that I'm not there and so I

play07:26

was thinking there it's just no big deal

play07:29

M it's no big deal she's in the water

play07:32

we'll just go and grab her put her in

play07:34

the boat and we'll just keep on having

play07:36

this wonderful day that we're having

play07:40

right and Camille kind of looks at me

play07:43

and I drop the rope and then she is like

play07:47

what's going on so she goes to drive

play07:50

back and I start swimming back to Sunny

play07:53

I left the surfboard there and just

play07:55

started swimming back to Sunny and she

play07:58

is still kind of screaming for

play08:00

[Music]

play08:01

me again I'm not in some huge rush to

play08:05

get to her cuz I have that thought that

play08:09

it's no big deal it's it's okay

play08:12

everything's okay similar to like a

play08:14

child wrecking on a bike they're just

play08:16

they're okay everything's going to be

play08:19

okay and the closer I got I could tell

play08:21

it was not

play08:22

okay

play08:24

um and the the first time that I knew

play08:27

that this was big

play08:30

is Camille got close enough to the boat

play08:33

and she had a different vantage point

play08:36

and from my knowledge she could have

play08:39

seen all the blood that was in the

play08:41

water uh cuz what had happened well I'll

play08:44

just keep going with what the story is

play08:46

and we can try to figure out what

play08:47

happened after um Camille then like

play08:52

screamed to me oh

play08:54

Blake my baby and then dove into the

play08:58

water from the boat

play09:01

um the boat was if if any boat is still

play09:05

drifting whether it has power or not if

play09:08

you were just going somewhere and then

play09:09

you put the boat in neutral it's still

play09:10

going to drift CU you didn't ever stop

play09:12

the boat it's not like a break so I had

play09:14

multiple concerns at the same time there

play09:16

was also other boats that had kind of

play09:18

like saw the uh heard the commotion and

play09:21

had kind of driven closer over by where

play09:23

we were so in the midst of all this I

play09:25

still have like hey the boat something

play09:28

about the boat so I was Yelling to the

play09:30

people in the boat like hit the stop

play09:32

button turn it off do whatever cuz I

play09:33

just didn't know uh what Camille had

play09:36

done if she had turned it off or

play09:38

anything but I could tell the boat was

play09:39

drifting I didn't want it to just

play09:40

continually drive away cuz I knew that

play09:42

if there was any chance then we would

play09:44

have to get her in the boat as quick as

play09:46

we could and like use that as a tool to

play09:48

help us right with her so I'm trying to

play09:52

uh tell the people what to do with the

play09:53

boat while I'm still swimming really

play09:55

hard and as I got close to her

play09:59

Camille says something to the effect

play10:02

like Blake her arm her arm Blake her arm

play10:04

and she lifts her up a little bit out of

play10:06

the water to show me her arm and she's

play10:08

screaming at

play10:09

me and at that time where I was at in

play10:12

the

play10:13

water I could

play10:15

feel uh it's it's a term called the

play10:18

viscosity of water it's how the water

play10:20

actually feels how thick it is and it

play10:23

got way thicker and it was because I was

play10:25

swimming Through Blood mhm

play10:30

and so I got to I got to Sunny and then

play10:33

I told Camille go get the boat and so

play10:36

she started swimming to the boat I don't

play10:37

even know how she got to the boat I

play10:39

don't know any of that but she ended up

play10:41

getting to the boat and uh just like you

play10:44

pick up any child from like the back and

play10:47

their their legs I picked her up um with

play10:50

my life jacket on I picked her up she

play10:52

had a life jacket on everything I picked

play10:54

her up and as I picked her up I could

play10:56

tell that it just this we were in a

play10:59

really really bad spot

play11:02

mhhm and so I swam with her kind of on

play11:04

my chest and got her to the boat uh and

play11:09

begged that we could say a quick prayer

play11:11

right

play11:13

there

play11:15

and as soon as I got her to the back of

play11:17

the boat I knew she was dead

play11:35

I'm sure that was a horrible experience

play11:37

and I'm really sorry that you your

play11:40

family had

play11:42

to experience that and I didn't even

play11:45

know what to

play11:45

[Music]

play11:48

do so we tried to call

play11:53

911 I was just holding her

play12:01

and then the thought came to me that

play12:02

Camille needs to hold

play12:05

her CU I want her to hold her even

play12:09

though we both knew that she was

play12:13

gone and so I said Camille come here and

play12:15

then I had Camille sit down and I just

play12:18

handed stunny to

play12:19

[Music]

play12:21

Camille we're trying to call 911 no one

play12:24

was answering one of the other boats

play12:26

there we said go go up the up the lake

play12:29

can try to try to contact

play12:31

[Music]

play12:33

9911 and we just sat there I sat there

play12:36

and I just looked at Cil I looked at

play12:39

the the father of the family that was

play12:42

there with us and she he was just

play12:43

holding Camille holding our

play12:49

baby just in total

play12:54

shock it's just I was almost kind of

play12:56

like walking around the boat like what

play12:58

what are you doing I was just like

play12:59

looking at people and everyone's just no

play13:01

words nothing to say everyone is just

play13:04

like Jaw jaw dropped

play13:07

just what do you

play13:09

do so I started driving back uh I was

play13:12

finally like well we got to get back no

play13:13

matter

play13:15

what so I started driving

play13:17

back finally someone in in our boat was

play13:21

able to get connected to

play13:23

911

play13:25

um they were asking him where they are

play13:27

in the lake and instead of them trying

play13:31

to communicate where we are in the lake

play13:33

they didn't know where it was so I just

play13:35

wanted to take someone out of the

play13:37

equation so I just grabbed the phone and

play13:38

started talking to

play13:40

them

play13:41

uh and I just repeatedly kept saying

play13:44

she's dead it's there like there's

play13:46

nothing and they're like no no where are

play13:48

you at we need to send people and I just

play13:51

kept saying they're they're dead she's

play13:53

dead like there's there's no point to

play13:55

send anyone so there was no like

play13:58

helicopter anything that came no and

play14:03

then another multiple other boats came

play14:06

up to our boat while we were driving to

play14:08

try to tell us where we should go or not

play14:10

but I was already talking to 911 so I

play14:12

was just going to go where I had told

play14:13

him I was going to go

play14:18

um Camille had tried to do CPR a little

play14:21

bit on

play14:22

sunny but we both knew that she was dead

play14:26

and finally the 911 person gave up

play14:29

trying to like convince me that I needed

play14:31

to tell them where we were so they could

play14:33

send people and they just finally said

play14:36

okay just drive to where you're going to

play14:38

go then M um and we pull up and they had

play14:41

paramedics already the fire department

play14:43

was there

play14:45

uh they jumped on the boat they grabbed

play14:48

her and put her

play14:53

on on the dock I even like slowed down

play14:56

in the no wake zone and I was like why

play14:58

why why am I even slowing down I know

play14:59

the legality but like the I got to get

play15:02

her there so I just hammered it over to

play15:06

where we were they came on and got her

play15:07

and put her on the dock I was trying to

play15:10

like make sure everything was fine with

play15:12

the boat I was trying to make sure

play15:14

everything's fine with the kids the kids

play15:15

got rushed into a different uh room at

play15:18

the marina so did Camille and I didn't

play15:22

have shoes

play15:23

on and I couldn't find my shoes and it

play15:26

was burning H ground on fire hot yeah

play15:28

and so I'm like walking around trying to

play15:30

stick my feet into the water but then

play15:33

I'm trying to go like be next to Camille

play15:35

and help

play15:38

Camille

play15:40

and then the paramedic said something

play15:43

about like a pulse or a false pulse or I

play15:46

got a pulse or something and so I'm like

play15:49

wait there's possibility that like there

play15:52

could m a miracle could

play15:54

happen so I started asking them

play15:56

questions and they just they wouldn't

play15:58

say anything to me mhm um I assume that

play16:01

that's how they're trained too right um

play16:04

but they wouldn't say anything to

play16:06

me so I'm watching them work on

play16:09

her trying to find my shoes or my phone

play16:13

or

play16:14

anything um and

play16:17

then I have the police down there with

play16:20

us trying to uh talk to us Camille felt

play16:25

the need to start calling some different

play16:26

people I was there when she called my my

play16:29

family

play16:31

um and she's somewhat hysterical but

play16:34

still trying to communicate

play16:37

that Sunny's dead or that there was this

play16:39

huge boating accident and people don't

play16:42

get it on the phone right they almost

play16:44

think it's a prank when you call them or

play16:46

they're like what what what what

play16:48

happened what what and so I grabbed the

play16:51

pH from her and I said there's a boating

play16:53

accident she got

play16:56

hit she's dead

play17:00

um and then in order to get to the

play17:03

hospital they told Camille that she

play17:05

couldn't be in the ambulance which I

play17:07

didn't understand um at the time I

play17:09

didn't know that she got told

play17:11

that I would have preferred that she had

play17:13

been with sunny the entire time um and I

play17:16

probably would have fought for that had

play17:18

I known that she got told that so we had

play17:21

to get our way to the hospital and we

play17:23

had to go unhook the trailer and the

play17:25

boat was going to be impounded and all

play17:26

these different things um

play17:29

I'm thankful to all

play17:37

the all the paramedics the

play17:42

firefighters the people at the

play17:46

[Music]

play17:52

marina I put them in a very bad

play17:57

spot but they did things they needed to

play17:59

to help my family which was

play18:02

nice and then we got to the

play18:04

[Music]

play18:06

hospital

play18:08

and another call that they

play18:12

made uh on the way to the

play18:15

hospital was to uh the person in our

play18:18

church or leader in our church was

play18:20

actually his wife I don't know if this

play18:22

phone was on speaker phone but I

play18:24

remember her verbatim response is this

play18:27

is a joke you must be joking

play18:32

mhm get to the

play18:35

hospital and I tell us she's dead you

play18:40

can see her the doctor come in the

play18:43

doctor came in and said based off of all

play18:45

of her injuries there was zero chance

play18:47

that anything could have been done to

play18:49

save

play18:50

her

play18:53

um so to go back on what actually

play18:56

happened we don't really know what

play18:58

happened and I know everyone's curious

play18:59

of what happened I'm curious as to what

play19:02

happened mhm we thought everybody had

play19:05

gotten back in the boat when everybody

play19:06

got back in the boat and even I believe

play19:09

I believe that Sunny did get back in the

play19:11

boat when we asked everyone to get back

play19:13

in the boat I don't know if people were

play19:15

still playing tag like the kids or

play19:16

something or she thought she would be

play19:18

funny or I don't I don't know exactly

play19:20

what happened but before we ever took

play19:22

off on the boat she got back in the

play19:25

water I think happened the other

play19:28

scenario is she never got back in and

play19:30

she just stayed by the front of the boat

play19:36

um you can't blame anyone anyone

play19:40

individual for for that there were

play19:43

multiple adults all on that boat

play19:45

multiple people is my boat uh Camille

play19:48

was there with us we all should have

play19:51

checked no matter how many things we

play19:54

have in place and thinking that everyone

play19:56

was there she just wasn't so when we

play19:58

took off she must have been in the

play20:00

perfect spot that she needed to be and

play20:03

the boat proceeded to go over her and

play20:05

she got hit by the

play20:07

propeller

play20:09

um we saw or then so that's the

play20:13

explanation of what happened even though

play20:15

it's we don't really know right what

play20:19

happened so we're there with sunny in

play20:23

the

play20:24

hospital um and they have her pretty

play20:26

much covered up for the majority of her

play20:28

body with uh a

play20:32

sheet

play20:34

and they bring in like a pastor or a the

play20:39

hospital chap hosital chaplain thank you

play20:41

that's the right word a

play20:42

chaplain and she says let let's say a

play20:46

prayer and I said no it's my daughter I

play20:47

would like to say the prayer um and so

play20:51

we knelt down next to

play20:52

[Music]

play20:53

Sunny and in general Christianity uh

play20:58

most most religions the way that you

play21:00

pray is you call upon God and then you

play21:02

say things you're thankful for and

play21:04

typically people say I'm thankful for

play21:06

this day that's just the kind of rote

play21:10

repetition giving gratitude for the life

play21:12

that they have today yep

play21:15

yeah

play21:16

[Music]

play21:21

and holding Sunny's lifeless hand

play21:25

kneeling down

play21:26

with Camille next to

play21:30

me I said my dear heavenly

play21:34

father and then in my mind I thought the

play21:36

next words need to be I'm thankful for

play21:38

this day but you couldn't say

play21:50

it and I just went silent

play22:00

I couldn't say

play22:01

[Music]

play22:06

anything the chaplain ended up helping

play22:10

and saying a prayer

play22:12

and I just sat there in

play22:15

[Music]

play22:21

shock I don't think I could ever say

play22:29

[Music]

play22:31

that I'm thankful for that

play22:33

day if you like this section of the
