Q & A
What has been the traditional method of assessing learning in Western education for the past 500 years?
-The traditional method of assessing learning in Western education for the past 500 years has been through school exams, which were imported from societal practices of the pre-16th century for the purpose of selection and elitism.
Why was the shift to teaching larger groups of students accompanied by the introduction of exams in education?
-The shift to teaching larger groups of students required a method to assess if they had learned effectively. Exams, which were used for societal selection, were introduced to serve this purpose within the educational system.
What is the primary function of evaluation according to the script?
-The primary function of evaluation is to ensure success in various aspects of life, including business, religious experience, politics, and family life. It serves as a diagnostic tool to signal whether the results achieved are satisfactory or not.
How does the script differentiate between the roles of evaluation and management in achieving desired outcomes?
-Evaluation is responsible for diagnosing the quality of results, while management is responsible for administering actions to achieve the desired outcomes. Evaluation provides an indicator, and the solution comes from management decisions and investments.
What is the script's perspective on the traditional view of student failure in education?
-The traditional view has been to blame the student for failure, attributing it to a lack of desire to learn or other personal factors. However, the script suggests that institutional failure should also be considered as a contributing factor.
What changes began to occur in the late 1980s regarding the perception of educational failure?
-In the late 1980s, there was a shift in thinking to include the possibility that the educational institution itself could be failing, not just the student. This led to the concept of institutional evaluation.
What is the role of large-scale evaluations like the National Course Exam or the Enade in the educational system?
-Large-scale evaluations like the National Course Exam or the Enade serve to assess not only student performance but also the effectiveness of the educational system itself, to determine if it is meeting its promises or failing.
Why is it important for a teacher to track the learning curve of their students?
-Tracking the learning curve of students can reveal the effectiveness of a teacher's methods and highlight any fragility or failure in their teaching approach, allowing for necessary adjustments and improvements.
What are the key characteristics that the script suggests should be present in assessment tools used in education?
-The key characteristics of assessment tools should include systematic coverage of all taught content, comprehensible language for students, compatibility with the taught content in terms of difficulty and methodology, and precision in the questions to ensure clear understanding.
How does the script relate the act of evaluating to scientific research?
-The script relates the act of evaluating to scientific research by stating that both aim to produce knowledge. While scientific research seeks to understand how reality works, evaluation seeks to understand the quality of reality, with the difference being the expected outcome.
What is the script's stance on the importance of investing in the practice of learning evaluation?
-The script emphasizes that investing in the practice of learning evaluation is crucial as it not only ensures the efficiency of the pedagogical project but also has a revolutionary political consequence, contributing to the democratization of society by ensuring that all students learn what is necessary.

It highlights the shift from a master-apprentice model to a more collective teaching approach, necessitating a method to assess large groups of students. The paragraph emphasizes the role of assessment as a tool for success across various domains, not just education, and clarifies that while assessment measures the quality of outcomes, it is management and decision-making that drive improvements.
🎓 Rethinking School Failure: A Broader Perspective
The second paragraph addresses the issue of school failure, traditionally attributed to students themselves. It points out a shift in perspective since the 1980s, recognizing that institutional factors may also contribute to educational failure. The paragraph introduces the concept of institutional evaluation, such as the National Course Exam (Enade) in Brazil, to assess the effectiveness of the educational system itself. It suggests that assessments should not only focus on individual students but also on the system and classroom practices to identify where improvements are needed.
🔍 The Scientific Rigor of Assessments
This paragraph draws a parallel between scientific research and educational assessment, emphasizing the importance of rigor in the assessment process. It discusses the need for systematic and comprehensive tools to measure student learning effectively. The purpose of assessment is to ensure success in various aspects of life, including education, business, and politics.
Assessment is not just about diagnosing unsatisfactory results but also about signaling satisfactory outcomes.
Assessment is a diagnostic tool that indicates whether the desired quality of results has been achieved.
Management, not assessment, is responsible for resolving issues and achieving desired outcomes.
The concept of educational failure has traditionally placed blame on the student rather than the institution.
Since the 1980s, there has been a shift to consider institutional failure as a contributor to educational outcomes.
Large-scale assessments like the National Assessment of Higher Education (ENADE) in Brazil aim to evaluate the system, not just the student.
Teachers should track student learning curves to assess the effectiveness of their teaching on the group, not just individuals.
A learning curve can reveal the fragility of a teacher's work and the potential failure of their teaching methods.
Assessment should not only focus on student learning but also on the system's effectiveness in the classroom.
The act of assessing is an investigative act that produces knowledge, similar to scientific research.
Assessment tools must be systematic, comprehensible, and aligned with the taught content and its level of difficulty.
Assessment instruments should be precise and avoid generic questions to accurately measure student understanding.
Comparison with a standard or criterion is essential to determine the qualitative positivity or negativity of the reality being assessed.

tô me dirigindo a você coordenador da
produz algum resultado é parceira no
sentido assim de encontrar o melhor
resultado de uma determinada de um
determinado curso de ação né então
H nesse sentido
eh todos nós apostamos no sucesso eu
vocês
eh todos os seres humanos afinal de
contas apostam no sucesso né e a
avaliação é a nossa parceira nesse
sentido não porque a avaliação
eh
pesquisa a qualidade do resultado agora
o que resolve é a gestão
a gestão significa aquele que administra
alguma coisa para chegar num num
determinado resultado então a avaliação
brasileira e fora do Brasil que é o
fracasso escolar e nessa questão do
fracasso escolar Nossa tradição eh do
sempre dizer assim quem fracassa é o
outras experiências do dia a dia do
cotidiano
camadas populares e camadas
Exame Nacional do ensino superior né
do lado do
quantos tiraram 4 5 6 7 8 9 e 10 vamos
supor que dos 50 estudantes cinco
tiraram 8 9 10 45 tir AR 5 4,5 4 3 E5 3
2,5 2 etc etc o que que isso está
revelando que esse professor né ou posso
ser eu como professor estou ensinando
cinco pessoas e 45 não então
ah uma pequena curva estatística pode
demonstrar a fragilidade do meu trabalho
equivale à pesquisa científica a
diferença está na no resultado que se
espera a pesquisa científica
eh pretende eh desvendar como que
funciona a realidade a avaliação
pretende desvendar Qual é a qualidade da
realidade então
ah pela ciência me interessa saber qual
conhecimento a tecnologia produz
soluções a partir do
qualidade a tecnologia seria intervenção
nós vamos entrar naquela coisa assim ah
ele errou tudo errou tudo o quê não é é
preciso sistematicamente eu poder dizer
do instrumento vai guiar a construção
vai guiar a correção do instrumento vai
bem o desempenho do Estudante né e a
última coisa tem que ter alguma
precisão então o instrumento precisa as
alguma coisa satisfatória a ú o único
caminho disponível
epistemologicamente é a comparação é
aprendizagem nós estabelecemos no dia
através do instrumento me revela o
vista
político do ponto de vista pedagógico a
avaliação ela como subsidiária do
Sucesso Ela garante pedagogicamente que
a gente possa chegar que nós possamos
chegar ao resultado desejado não chegou
ainda vamos reinvestir para chegar ao
resultado desejado eh
pedagogicamente ainda o a avaliação é
inclusiva né enquanto os exames
escolares que excluem que reprovam ou
que retém a avaliação eh diria assim
olha ainda precisa trabalhar mais para
que essa criança esse adolescente ou
esse adulto aprenda o necessário
significa que eh ela convida a produção
do resultado pedagógico porque nós
estamos trabalhando p
pedagogicamente politicamente a a
democratizar a
eh subsidiar a busca do melhor resultado
a todos vocês desejo a mim desejo a
educação brasileira
eh mais sucesso né mais sucesso
significa melhores resultados da
aprendizagem dos nossos educant portanto
uma elaboração sociocultural mais
significativa para todos nós muito
agradecido
